"We don't have maps of that region in exacting detail," the goblin said.

"A little detail is better than none."

Something with major visible mountain peaks and major waterways along the way is probably good enough to get us close.

"Well, we do have one map of the Mournland," she says. "So far, no one has explored the Mournland in deep. Are you explorers?"

"We are now." Karsh'e says slowly, with solemn emphasis.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Right," she says in common. Then she switched to goblin, "Vern, do we have any maps of the Mournland left?"

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Vern, another goblin -- and a male to be exact, says the following:

"I do have one map left, it's sketchy," said Vern. He's wearing nothing but a loin cloth, due to the tropical heat that is present.

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"A sketchy map is better than none. Perhaps we can make some notes and upgrade it a bit and bring it back here on our way out?"

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Call me Merryl," the female goblin said. "How are you going back there?"

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

"We were going to walk." Karsh'e bares his short tusk-like canines in a smile. Then he tilts his head. "But do you know where the trade caravans hire guards?"

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"There is a scion of Orien that is offering rides into the Mournland."

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Well, that is helpful. Where can we find this scion?"

The goblin nods and says, "The one offering rides is named Failin, a cousin to Tucson d'Orien."

Karsh'e makes a mental note. Failin d'Orein can be found in the northern pubs.

lmk if there is something I need to roll; in my head, Jacen knows the family VERY well and would know how he is realted to another Orien unless it was seriously distant.

Hmm . . . Knowledge -- Royalty and Nobility would be the closest skill to roll to see if you know Failin and Tucson. DC 15. This is one roll you could take 10 on, Jacen.

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

Lia looks around the shop, still eying that magnificent wooden furniture. She pokes Jacen, points at Karsh'e and says, "Where did everyone else go?"

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

Karsh'e looks up from a table full of fine wool cloaks from Karnnath. "They must have gotten bored of shopping and stepped outside."

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Well. I guess we should go see Jacen's relatives. How dangerous could that be.."

"Family means safety and comfort. A place and people where you can get help if you need it. I was hunting clams with my father far out in the marshes and we were caught in a storm. It was cold, and a bad winter. But we were able to rest and get warm with my cousins in another village across the marsh. It was a bad winter and they didn't have much food, but they shared that with us too for three days. "

Jacen clearly is lost in thought. So many names across such a huge family; and yet, he had a greater duty to know them than the rest of his family: he was dragonmarked, he was true Heir of Orien.

KNOW(Orien): 10 + 7 = 17
LORE(Orien): 10 + 7 = 17

Lia's poke snaps him out of it. "I will be honest, I feel like I remember those names from when I was working in Sharn. Maybe they found a way to make this region profitable again."

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Well then. Perhaps we should visit. If they know you, they may be a font of useful information."
She grins, "Or, if they know you, we'll be kicked out unceremoniously..."

Jacen's Memory:
Failin is a second cousin who was excoriated from the house for something terrible, you can't remember now. You know he's become something of a treasure hunter. He has a cart that is magical, it has an earth elemental embedded inside it.

"Right! Failing Failin! I knew I knew that name! He's like the main cautionary tale of the whole family, our template of how NOT to act; this is not an altogether bad thing for us. He could probably use a good word put in for him ... and we could for sure use an elemental-powered cart in our travels. I should have thought of that. I wouldn't be hateful to go grab a drink if we're going to try to find him."

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Failin?" asks a goblin. "He can be found at the Clenched Fist tavern."

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

"Is that in the northern part of town?" Karsh'e asks. He'll be encouraged if this goblin's information correlates with previous information.

"I presume you're ready to pay and we can leave for the Clenched Fist."

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

"Let us be on our way then."

She looks back to the Goblin shopkeeper she has been talking to. "Thank you for your time. I very much enjoyed talking to you!"

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

"Happy trails!" she says.

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

The trek to the Clenched Fist tavern takes you about five minutes. You see an odd looking cart parked near the watering troughs. It is here you see Fizzle (that's you, Seth!) looking over it.

Goblin

The very dark green goblin is inspecting the cart, why and for what you have little information about. Though she seems to be carrying a lot of glass and other odd shaped containers on her person

"I wonder if that's Failin's Earth Chariot!? No wonder no one wanted him to stay in Sharn ..."

"Excuse me, you there, cleaning that cart, are you a servant working for Master Failin? I wondered if he might be inside, I haven't seen him in ages. You're doing a great job by the way, looks quite tidy."

Goblin

The female goblin spins around to look at the one speaking
"Iz no servant! Is FizFiz, you bigguns call Fizzle. Just looking. Honost. Not wanting to see if can burn good. No no "

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

Karsh'e draws different inferences from Jacen's about the little goblin.

"FizFiz, of course you weren't thinking about burning the cart. It is very different, isn't it? Something people would just want to look at."

Elf (Aerenal) Cleric of the Undying Court 4 HP 20 AC 20 (T 13, FF 17) Fort +5 Refl +5 Will +8 init +3 BAB +3

Lia smiles.
"Of course we would not dare infer you were going to burn some odd looking random cart. But since you've been studying it, what do you think it is? It seems very fancy."

Goblin

She kinda looks perplexed for a second. As if not understanding the fact that there are no accusations being thrown, she shakes her head, her ears flopping around as she does

"FizFiz just making sure circle wheel thing NOT burn good. Be careful not break thing. Yes. Not very good at fire stuff" she pats the wheels reassuringly

"Sturdy circle wheel Cart!

"Well, it is good to know that the conveyance we want to hire is resistant to fire." says the ectoplasm-encased warforged. "But we should head inside. Maybe we could buy you a drink. I expect those will burn."

Is this an obvious ploy to get the pyromaniac goblin away from our reason for coming here, or is it an excuse to get the new party member in where we can all interact more? Tune in next post to find the answer!

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Everyone, I need perception checks before you go in. I'll roll for you to move things along. The DC is 15:

Escher's perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Fiz's perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Lia's perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Escher's perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Jacen's perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Fiz's perception:
Fiz, you see two bugbears coming you're way, looking for someone -- or something

Everyone else, you are too distracted by the cart.

Warforged Aegis 1/Soulknife 2 | HP 41/41 | AC 22, T 11, F 21 | F 6, R 5, W 6 | Init +1, Perception +8

My perception will be one higher once the level up is applied. I also have profession bodyguard.

Okay, I'll adjust.

Escher's perception:
You see two bugbears coming your way. They appear to be looking for someone.

He will gesture to the group and softly say, "We should get inside. There might be trouble coming." The ectoplasm on his arm speads out into a shield but he doesn't form his blade yet. "I'll cover the rear."

Guess I should work on leveling up soon! :)

Goblin

Fiz looks past her long legged questioners, as she squints her eyes
"Longshank cousins" she points to the approaching bugbears

"Fizizzle, please, come with us, let's get inside so that I can apologize for thinking you were a servant rather than an arsonist. I can be a little thick headed sometimes. My friends used to say that Dragonmakrs glow when their bearer had a good idea ... and that's why mine didn't glow very much. Let's go!"

Goblin

Fiz seems to forget about the approaching goblinoids very quickly as she rubs her little hands together, her ears perking up as she gives a serrated toothy smile that only goblins can do

"Burning drinks? Yes! Fiz happy to have all of it. Make Fiz sneez fire!"

Male Human Psion 10/Atlanteologist 10

Inside is a huge fireplace. With many logs burning fire. Also, there are a lot of goblins, hobgoblins, and even a few humans. No bugbear in sight. However, there is a clear table big enough for your group to sit down on. There is a bar, with a hobgoblin manning it. Also, there are a few waitresses, all hobgoblins. They are wearing clothes that breathe, due to the subtropical climate. Some of them are shirtless, and wearing an orange cotton fabric wrap around their breasts (think sports bra).

While drinks are served, including rum, one of the waitresses approaches you. She starts speaking in goblin. "Hello, my name is Ramatha," she says. "I'll be your server. What will you have?"

Jacen, since you are actively searching for Failin, I'd like you to do a perception check with a +3 bonus.

Warforged Aegis 1/Soulknife 2 | HP 41/41 | AC 22, T 11, F 21 | F 6, R 5, W 6 | Init +1, Perception +8

"Spiced whiskey, neat, for myself and Fiz." Says Escher, sliding a few coins across. He'll translate for those that don't speak Goblin.

"Spiced whiskey, of course," said Ramatha, still in goblin. "What will the others have?"

Goblin

Fiz looks from her to Escher back to her a few times before she chimes in, Goblin "I hear that adding actual chillies to the whiskey, diced, adds even more of a kick to it, perhaps I should do that too!"

She is much more well spoken in her own tongue than that of Common. There seems to be a story there

Male Half-orc Bard 4 Init +6 Percept +5 (darkvision 60) SenseMotive +4 45 /45 HP; Fort +4 Reflex +6 Will +4 (+4 v Bardic, sonic, language) ; AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12

Casting an eye back on the cart, Karsh'e follows the others through the door into the bar. He's disappointed. He'd expected something a little less -- gobliny -- as the chosen hang out of a scion of House Orien.

Once Escher makes clear that orders are being placed, he declines. "I am not hungry, thanks."
