Those next to Amenhep gain spiritual strength from the paladin's mere presence and stand fast against the terror that seeps into their bones. Wow, Amenhep's aura gave three of you successes instead of failures on that saving throw! Elliander was a bit out of the 10' range though, unfortunately. Devin, your opponent is unaware of your presence AND you do not have line of sight on any targets, so that feat is moot in this instance. Definitely remind me of that in the future, though!
Don't forget to make that Acrobatics roll, if you're climbing the slope! No 'Take 10' is possible now. Let's just have Devin, Nevitash and Soumral only take their actions for now.

@Gm West, is this a surprise round (ie only a standard action) or a normal round (standard and move actions)?
@Party, as Eliander is going to be running (frightened condition), I propose we let whatever it is come to us?

Soumral Malyarin |
Soumral blanches at the noise, but casts.
I believe Soumral's Mage Armor is expired. If that is so, she will recast it from her wand. If she still has Mage Armor going, she will cast Haste I went ahead and moved Soumral into position to cast Haste, for which she now has a 40' range. She should catch the whole party with it from tehre. If she's casting Mage Armor she will not move, staying in the square immediately west of Amenhep.

Francis shakes his head and Prays to Pharasma to guide and protect the team.
Does line of sight apply? He could try to slide down the ramp if needed....
Casting Prayer. Add a +1 Luck bonus to all to hit, weapon damage, and skill checks, and a -1 to the same for the enemy if it is affected by magic. Duration 7 rounds. SR check?

Devin cracks wise, inspiring his allies with dark humor and moves out (see OOC below) into the bowl of the intersection, where he can see the terror-stricken Elliander turning to flee from something beyond his line of sight. Nevitash prays for protection and Soumral also moves down the slope (see OOC below), far enough where she can see Elliander and casts a spell to hasten the actions of all her allies.
Elliander glimpses fragment of shadow inside the room stir, and then something huge rushes him, just as he's turning to run! The others down below see it as well - it has the look of a massive hound with a spiky, whip-like tail and seemingly composed only of wispy shadows as it strikes the duskblade! (OOC: You can give me a Knowledge [Planes] to learn more...)
Shadow Hound's 'Charge' Bite Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 vs Elliander's FF AC = Hit!
Bite Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 -1 [8 damage total]
Shadow Hound's 'Trip' Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 vs Elliander's FF CMD = Tripped! Elliander is prone!
The duskblade is borne to the ground as the shadowy monster tears into the duskblade's shoulder!
Everyone can post your action for the rest of this round and the beginning of next! Just as a heads up, you cannot take a 5' step on the sloped passage since it requires you to make an Acrobatics check to negotiate - I'm going to treat it as difficult terrain in that aspect - especially as you can only move at half speed unless you want to risk a higher DC. Devin and Soumral, please revisit your actions and make sure to roll those Acrobatics if you're moving at all along the sloped passage - I think you each moved 10' moving at half speed (i.e. 5')? Thanks! I don't think Nevitash moved when he cast his spell, so he's fine where he's at. I'm figuring that if you're standing on the sloped passage, you've got one hand braced on the wall and secured your footing before combat started, so no need to roll unless you're moving on your turn. Francis, Prayer is a burst effect, so unless you move to a position where you can see Elliander (or unless he flees in your direction), he will be out of range of your spell - as will the creature. Those with line of sight on Elliander can barely see the shadowy mastiff mauling him - though just barely... Elliander, as you're prone I'll let you either stand and run (AoO) or crawl away as fast as you can (still an AoO). If you crawl, no Acrobatics check is needed, as you'll kind of just slide down to the bottom of the intersection with no damage taken as you're already prone.

K Planes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Gonna hold to see if this gets me anything.
GM West |
Soumral recognizes the creature as a shadow mastiff, an evil, extraplanar creature that blends with the shadows so well it is impossible to see, even by the light of a lantern or torch and to those that can see in complete darkness. Its bay causes fear, and it can use its barbed tail in addition to its bite.
Effectively 'invisible', even when in dim or bright light and darkvision doesn't help. That said, I'm going to allow that when they make an attack, the victim (and those that witness the attack) can 'see' the square in which it is standing (but it has 50% concealment.) If it's not attacking and moving, it's completely invisible, however and you'd need to 'guess' the square it's in, perhaps with a really good Perception roll or the like.
Francis, that's no problem, but you will be prone at the end of your movement. You can stand next turn.
Elliander Celandi |
Surprised and frightened, Elliander’s instinct for self-preservation kicks in. He raises his shield some and uses the downward slope to roll away from the beast to land at the flat area behind Devin and Nevitash.
Withdraw. Ready shield as part of the movement if he did not already have it up. I guess he is still considered prone, or would he have enough movement to also get up?
GM West |
Elliander, I don't think you can withdraw while prone. You'd have to scoot away (i.e. crawl 5' as a move action) and then let gravity just sort of tumble you down the slope. I'd say you could stand up at the bottom, but you can't ready your shield as those would be two move actions. In any case, you'll draw an AoO for sure. I actually hadn't thought of the withdraw action while frightened, probably because I was thinking of the more serious panicked condition. But since you are currently prone, I'm ruling that you can't withdraw, as a crawl 5' action is considered a move action in and of itself.
Devin Horekson |
@GM West, Shadow Mastiffs do make you panicked in PF1...
Nevitash |
Knowledge: Planes: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Well, now I need to wait for Soumral to tell me what it is to use my Bane ability. Current AC is 22 and CMD 25.
Nevitash moves to the base of the ramp and readies to strike at the creature with his axe. He calls out, "I have never heard of such a creature. Does anyone know what it is?"
Readied Greataxe Attack w/PA, Luck: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 11 - 2 + 1 = 28

Miss Chance: 51+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 82
Soumral Malyarin |
Soumral communicates to the others what she knows about the beasts, and draws her more powerful wand of Magic Missile as she does. With only four uses remaining in it, she regrets this. This may see the end of its usefulness.
Do shadow mastiffs count as "living creatures"? A spell wants to know...
GM West |
@GM West, Shadow Mastiffs do make you panicked in PF1...
Oh dang, you're right! Not sure how I missed that... sorry Elliander, you're basically getting the hell out of Dodge and dropping your sword in the process. I'll allow that you scramble away via crawling, you'll take the AoO, tumble down to the bottom and then stand up to run away! But then come to your senses next round, since it only lasted a single round. Fortunately for you, you panicked on the sloped surface, so the sword is gonna slide right down next to your feet. Next round, you can pick it up as a move action.
GM West |
Do shadow mastiffs count as "living creatures"? A spell wants to know...
Yes, I'd consider them living creatures. Also, so long as one character identifies a monster with a Knowledge skill, consider it a free action to 'share' the info with others - even if it's not your turn. So Nevitash, you can know about them before Soumral's action.
Soumral Malyarin |

Soumral can't supply a constant light source, but she does have a couple of tricks up her sleeve. She can't do much until she has line of sight though.
Don't forget, this creature is technically 'invisible', even though I'm letting you know the square from which it attacked from when it tore into Elliander. This will have an effect on spells like Magic Missile I do believe, where you need to visibly see the target.
Soumral Malyarin |
Sure, but Glitterdust won't care. The problem is I don't think I can lob the spell into where they are currently can I?
Nevitash |
Since I am not sure where everyone will end up, I will save the Bane still this round and start using it when I am not readying an attack.
Amenhep |
Forgot about those slopes there. Gotta try to actually get over there.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Amenhep takes a single step onto the slope and immediately loses his balance, his helmet falling off almost instantly.
Soumral hears the paladin tumbling down the slope before she sees it, his armor clanking as he slides down to the bottom.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
His pride is hurt worse than he is as he gets up and puts his helmet back on, dusting himself off rather sheepishly.
Well that was...inglorious.

If Elliander is instead panicking, can he use a spell to get away or is it just if the spell is part of a special ability?
” A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee ...”
Quick-casting Dimension Hop as a Swift action? (No AoO)
Landing on his feet?

Nice! Yes, you can do that! I'd rule that you start prone though, so you arrive at the destination prone. But you can stand up as a move action. You'll have to use your second move action to move 30'
Elliander Celandi |
With the help of his spell, Elliander escapes the beast momentarily, landing at the bottom of the cross-intersection. He gets on his feet and starts moving towards the opposite door, crawling up the slope if necessary.
OK, so continuing to flee. Standing by the door at the Mask of Disgust?
Did he had to drop his sword?

Amenhep slips as well, sliding down to the bottomFall Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1; and then getting back to an upright position. Devin sets up with his spear - from which hangs a banner - and looks to be bracing for an attack by the shadow hound. Nevitash readies his axe and waits for the fiend to launch itself down at the party as well. Soumral also slips and winds up bumping against AmenhepFall Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3; rising to her feet and steadying herself against the paladin.
The shadow mastiff seems to disappear, then suddenly it appears beneath Devin's spear and snaps at the half-orcs legs, savaging his right thigh (13 damage) and knocking him down! In the next moment, there is another baying cry from somewhere in the room ahead... More Will saves, please!

Everyone please give me another Will save! Nevitash, take your 'readied' attack! Everyone can post your action for the rest of this round and the beginning of next! Again, those who are on the 'gold' colored tiles are on a sloped surface, so if you move (no 5' step allowed) you will need to make an Acrobatics check. If you stay put, no roll is needed! Devin, you couldn't see the creature until it attacked you. Technically, it is still invisible, so any attacks against it have a 50% miss chance. You were set against a charge though, so I don't think you get an opportunity attack because it is inside your 10' range now, but let me know if I'm mistaken there.

Elliander manages to grab his sword from the floor and stand up. While the beast doesn’t seem to be alone, at least now he knows what causes the frightening noise and he puts away his fear.
The duskblade then casts another spell at the dark beast.

WILL: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 4 = 25 Soumral should be getting the +4 from Amenhep since she's practically spooning him, right?
With a bit of time lost due to the slippery surface, and the shadow mastiff closing on them, the situation isn't nearly so optimal for what she's about to do as she wanted. But if wishes were horses, beggars would ride...
Soumral says something loudly in Ancient Osiriani, as best she remembers it's the alternative language everyone knows.
"Hulumi sewi āhuni kefītihi kalewi āyinihini t’ebik’i! Zigachewi!"
"Everyone avert your eyes from what is in front of you right now! Close them!"
Next, she casts. "Kimaltava pallo räjähtää sokeuttaakseen ja paljastaakseen viholliseni!
A twitching and fluttering little ball of bright yellow light appears in her cupped hands. It immediately launches itself forward at great speed, flying above the upward tilted ramp beyond them to where the floor levels out at the top. Once there, the little ball explodes into dazzling glitter and blinding light. In an instant the light winks out, leaving everything within the blast radius coated in shiny golden particles.
Casting Glitterdust. I mapped the 10' radius I'm going for as best I could. Nobody should need to save against it except the shadow mastiffs I believe. Save is DC 19 Will to avoid blindness. If that sticks awesome, but I'm not expecting it. This is for ruining their invisibility.

Elliander's twin scorching rays also fail to hit the mastiff as Amenhep scoots through his allies and tries to negotiate the slope where the mastiff is standing and the paladin finds his footing just fine as he slashes with his magic spear and whether by luck or skill, the broad head of the spear sinks deep (16 damage) into the monster's shoulder! Devin shudders at the howl, but overcomes the urge to flee - though the half-orc is prone at the monster's front paws! Or he thinks so anyway, as the creature is sort of a shapeless shadow only vaguely resembling a giant hound with glowing red eyes. One of Nevistash's strikes pierces through the shadow and strikes the beast (21 damage), but the second blow fails to land. Getting to her own feet after disentangling herself from the paladin, Soumral shouts in Ancient Osirian and casts a spell that both potentially blinds anyone in the area of effect, but more importantly sticks to them and negates invisibility-type powers! Amenhep understands the warning and shuts his eyes so that he isn't blinded, but the paladin is glowing as brightly as the shadow mastiff!
Amenhep's Acrobatics check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15 vs DC 10 = Success!
Amenhep's Spear attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 30 = Possible Hit!
Concealment Miss Chance (01-50): 1d100 ⇒ 62 = Hit!
Spear damage: 1d8 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 16 piercing damage
Shadow Mastiff's Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 vs DC 19 = Success!
The shadow mastiff is glowing quite nicely, though the elven wizardess doesn't see another at the top of the ramp - maybe it was just beyond the area of effect? The creature isn't blinded though, and it spins and bites at the half-orc that wounded it so terribly with the nasty axe! But Nevitash is just an instant quicker, thanks to the spell that hastened his movements, and the teeth snap on empty air, though the spiked tail grazes (2 damage) across his leg. A moment later, the second one makes its 'appearance' as it barrels into Amehep, its teeth finding a crease in the armor (13 damage) and biting into his flesh as it drives him to the floor (prone!)
Shadow Mastiff's Bite Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 10 - 1 = 19 vs Nevitash's AC = Miss!
Shadow Mastiff's Tail Slap: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 1 = 25 vs Nevitash's AC = Hit!
Tail Slap Damage: 1d6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 1 = 2
Shadow Mastiff's Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 1 = 12 vs DC 10 = Success!
Shadow Mastiff's Bite Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 - 1 + 2 = 21 vs Amenhep's FF AC = Hit!
Bite Damage: 1d8 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 1 = 13
Shadow Mastiff's 'Trip' Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 1 + 2 = 25 vs Amenhep's CMD = Tripped! Amenhep is prone!
Everyone can post your action for the rest of this round and the beginning of next! Devin, did you take an attack? I didn't see a roll, though maybe you're just performing? If you want, you can stand up and make a standard attack for the past round and a full attack action THIS round, if you'd like - but if you stand up from prone it's going to take an AoO against you retroactively. Francis, as you suspected the ally needs to make the concealment miss roll just as the rest of you do and a roll of 01-50 is a miss while a roll of 51-00 is a hit - so long as the attack roll hit as well! Sorry Elliander, those miss chance rolls you made are both misses. I have to set a target that everyone adheres to and is consistent throughout the game, and I've always ruled that a low roll due to concealment is a miss. By the way, you don't need to make Caster Level checks against these foes, they are not resistant to magic. Did we lose Amenhep? He hasn't posted since May and never posted for this round - which admittedly has lasted for nearly a couple months due to my own situation and not anyone else's I'll NPC him for now and send the player a PM. On a side note, I belatedly realized that the concealed mastiff should have a bonus to its attack roll AND attack flat-footed AC, because the target is denied DEX. Fortunately for Nevitash, his foe is no longer concealed, and unfortunately for Amenhep the attack hit because the paladin does not benefit from the Haste bonus to AC due to being denied his DEX bonus (which is nonexistent anyway.)

I swear I posted this yesterday. But apparently not. So here we go.
Nevitash calls upon his inner powers to empower his blade as he swings at the closest hound.
I will use rd 2/10 for Bane
+1 Greataxe+Bane+IC+Haste+Prayer-PA: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 27
+1 Greataxe Damage+Bane+IC+Prayer+PA: 1d12 + 2d6 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (11) + (4, 6) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 6 = 40
+1 Greataxe+Bane+IC+Haste+Prayer-PA: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 18
+1 Greataxe Damage+Bane+IC+Prayer+PA: 1d12 + 2d6 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (4) + (1, 3) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 6 = 27
Elliander Celandi |
Elliander steps over the prone Devin and goes to work at the nearest beast, swinging The Biter.
Full Attack
The Biter: Attack Roll 1: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 34 (inspire, haste, prayer)
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 46 1-50 miss
Damage Roll 1: 1d8 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 12 (Arcane Strike, Inspiration, prayer)
The Biter: Attack Roll 2: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30 (inspire, haste, prayer)
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 93 1-50 miss
Damage Roll 2: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 (Arcane Strike, Inspiration, prayer)
The Biter: Attack Roll 3: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 93 1-50 miss
Damage Roll 3: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 (Arcane Strike, Inspiration)

Ok, wrt to last turn, I hadn't acted because I didn't know if I was in Panicked condition: " So I am going to let GM West tell me if I am panicked." Apparently not: "Devin shudders at the howl, but overcomes the urge to flee." Thus,
Last turn:
In a smooth, acrobatic motion, Devin rolls away from the shadow mastiff...
Full round action - use acrobatics to move 5' while prone, without drawing an AoO - DC is 5+ Shadow Mastiff CMD. Failure incurs an AoO, but I still make the move.
Free Action - continue to inspire courage.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 - 1 = 16
3 ranks +3 trained +3 dex +3 Buffoonery -1 acp
This turn:
Then he stands up, and realizes he can't get to the melee, as there are too many people in front of him...
Move action - stand up
standard Action - delay until next round (I could theoretically stab at shadow mastiff (blue), but i suspect it's quite dead, after Nev and Eliander got at it...
free action - stop performing; lingering performance will keep inspire courage for this round and the next.

That explains it. I saw your post and thought I was in the Gameplay. We will just use what is here.

Back from my vacation to see a lot of activity here!
Francis directs the spiritual ally to continue it's attacks, then pulls a wand and Blesses the party. Bless is a morale bonus. I didn't see any on the list so it should stack. ??
Spiritual Allies attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 BAB+5, WIS+4, Flanking+2, Bless+1
Miss Chance? Does this apply to the Blue one?: 1d100 ⇒ 72
Damage if that hits?: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Hmm.... Same crappy attack roll as last turn. Let me cut a 1 in front of that 6!
