Amala Zorex
“Can we just pretend that the boar-man is working with the fey and execute him now?!“ she says totally frustrated.
Maybe back to the jail.
Octavonius Procchus
"Most magic is temporary. Give it some time and I am sure you will see your luck turn around again," Octavonius says to Hallidan, unable to be much practical help in fey matters. "If there are fey lurking about it may be prudent to ensure our own quarters do not provide them as easy of an access."
Octavonius and Ohd are fine with returning to the jail as well.
Fellzir the Mysterious
Maybe Mending on the ladder and chest as well? Should any of us stay here for a day and a night to keep an eye on things?

Your return to the Sheriff's Office is without incident and soon you find yourselves greeted by Cimri, who has a bored look on her face as she motions to the jail cell where Caggan is still imprisoned. "That...animal has been on his best behavoir...and I don't like it." She grimaces, "Be nice if we could put 'im out of his misery but..." her voice trails off. "Mebbe he will save us the trouble and hang himself first." She then gets an evil gleeful note in her voice as she adds, "I take it the Gate has been secured? How did you punish those Gatekeepers? Hopefully they suffered for their disobedience!"
Amala Zorex
Amala's eyes grow big.
"What?? He has behaved!! That is truly annoying! And there was no one at the gate. Just a sneaky creature but the former guards are gone!" she says super agitated.
Hallidan Regg
|
"A fey creature of some kind I think. D'you know anyone who knows about fey creatures? This one did something to me and I need to know what. It's like... I have really bad luck or I can't move right or something."
DM Eric
|
Cimri stares at Hallidan, her eyes narrowing in mistrust...or possibly fear? "I dunno anything about this fey you fought but yeah I hear tales from other folk about fey they ran into...You say it was in the Gatehouse? " She shakes her head in disbelief, "Those worthless gatekeepers never mentioned any sort of spirit guarding that place! Still...anything is possible. You sure the Gate has been fixed? Last thing we need is Fex finding out about this - may lead to more unrest!"
DM Eric

OK moving on here.
DAY 10
Over the next couple of days you quickly swing by the Castle Gatehouse at various times in between your other tasks and duties...but you find no traces of the mysterious fey returning to its lair. Thankfully the Gate shows no sign of being tampered with and it remains securely closed as per the Archbaron's edict.
You manage to enjoy the time, but when you arrive at the Sheriff's office early this morning you are greeted by a sizeable amount of what looks (and smells) like horse dung splattered against the window of the Longacre sheriff’s office. The dung looks fresh so this cannot have happened too long ago...

"Eugh. We're going to have to clean this up, aren't we? Know any cleaning spells, Octavonius?" He looks around for any sign of where it came from.

Probably nothing.
Octavonius Procchus
Octavonius crinkles his nose as he looks over the defilement. "It does appear that we are making few fans here," At Hallidan's question he sadly shakes his head. "While I possess the magic in my book I'm afraid I did not have the foresight to prepare it today."
He and Ohd attempt to join in the search.

Amala takes up the cause of tracking down who may have committed the vandalism. After canvassing the area and closely questioning the other shop owners that work around the nearby market turns up the fact the town grocery, which is named for its proprietors, Huxlam and Darlyne Kemmaino’s 12-year old daughter, Jemmy, helps out by carrying deliveries around town, but has a reputation as a troublemaker. Certainly the act of transporting the dung a long distance would be much more difficult to keep unnoticed...but the market is right across from the Jail...
Actions? Confront the Kemmanio's now or keep looking?
Amala Zorex
Amala informs the group about what she found out and then storms into the shop.
“Huxlam and Darlyne Kemmaino!! Where is your daughter, Jemmy?!? She fling horse s#!@ on the prison!! Whatever you do you better stop and give me answers or I’ll have my vengeance!“ she shouts.

Not one for confrontation, Octavonius will remain posted by the jail but will keep eyes on the shop to head over if it looks like his allies end up needing his help. He will send Ohd with them to report back if he fails to spot anything himself.
Aurelius Flavius
It is of course known for the followers of the savored sting to be incredibly vengeance focused. Consider what would happen if such an insult would afflict her directly! Would you not agree that a very very stern talking to, accompanied by some corrective labor of transporting horse s+@+ to outlying farms where it actually belongs and can enrich our community, would be far preferable before this Aurelius says as he positions himself somewhat partially in front of Amala and looks at her.
escalates? I dont recommend getting into a vengeance cycle with a Callistrian Paladin.
He almost whispers.

Any thoughts of resisting the enraged paladin are chased away by the fervent zeal upon Amala's face, yet Aurelius's words do manage to ease the tensions...a little. Huxlam motions to Darlyne toward the back stall, "Go find Jemmy and bring her here." As she moves off Huxlam continues in a respectful tone, "I swear to you Miss...Amala that Jemmy will be suitably punished for this! Such disresspectful acts are nt what this town is made of, you have my word!"
Fellzir the Mysterious
"You have my word! You have my word!" Ohd caws mockingly from Fellzir's shoulder.
Fellzir snickers and feeds Ohd some bread crust.
Amala Zorex
Amala looks at the team and nods.
“How exactly will you punish her?!! I want to know that you’re serious and if it is not the right punishment then I will punish her myself!! So choose wisely! And I want to see it!! I want to see you punish her so vengeance is served!!“
Aurelius Flavius
I am playing Skulls and shackles on the side, 10 lashes are rather likely to kill a child, a child has about 4hp, a lash deals about 2 non lethal damage per hit, 20 non lethal damage thus results in 12 lethal damage which more then kills her.
Hmm, how do I keep her from blowing up? Punishment delivered by her own family is far less likely to generate unrest then punishment by her, so thats entirely in our favor. And 10 lashes is plenty, heck, if she does it the girl may well die.
I shall be present as well, in part to ensure that he punishment is carried out, in part to ensure that it does not exceed what is merited. I have seen 10 lashes kill a man, although the one doing the lashing was a hellknight of the rack...
Aurelius speaks, with some of his skin color leaving him at the mention of hellknights.
good cop bluff we are much nicer then hellknights: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Amala Zorex
Amala looks satisfied and appreciates Aurelius‘ words. She just nods and will watch the lashes closely with satisfaction.

Aurelius: The lashes delivered reluctantly on a loved one are not quite the same as lashes delivered for mutiny charges...as you shall see...
Deciding to move along the punishment here you all gather at the store front in the marketplace where Huxlam leads you to the back storage area where Darlyne and Jemmy await...
Once the whip is broken out Huxlam proceeds with the lashing. Soon the girls cries of pain, along with sobbing pleas, echo forth from the market stall. Even though the blows struck are solid you can easily tell he is not delivering the full force of the lash to Jemmy...
Do you wish to interrupt the lashing, or let it proceed here?
Hallidan Regg

Hal stands patiently watching the proceedings. This guy doesn't beat his whelp much, does he? She's got some hard lessons to learn someday.
Sense Motive vs Jemmy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
I'd like to know if the girl's reactions are genuine or if she's trying to "up-sell" it at all.
Amala Zorex
Amala lets Jemmy deliver all the lashes but intervenes before the last lash.
“Wait!! I’ll reserve the right for the last lash!!“
She strikes with full force.
“Do not disrespect us ever again!“
DM Eric

Amala finishes off the punishment with a nasty blow that leaves an ugly red welt across the young girl's back. Jemmy breaks away from the stall once the lashes come to an end sobbing profusely....
Presuming you let the family go here without any further interaction here...
DAY 12
The events from a couple of days ago have a definite effect here as you notice the townsfolk giving you sidelong glances and unfriendly looks when they believe you are not looking here, but the punishment has seemingly prevented any further acts of vandalism to the Jail. Now you find it getting late as you busy yourselves with various tasks here.
2d20 ⇒ (16, 2) = 18;
Fellzir (and anyone else with him) as you leave the Jail to return to the Ash House you notice an odd sight - a misty vapor emerges from the ground off to the side of the Jail building. as you pause briefly you hear a clanging sound coming from within the vaprous cloud followed by a muffled voice...
Actions? Anyone who has Knowledge Arcana feel free to roll.
Aurelius Flavius
Good, she survived. You did well enough but dont cross that one in particular. I do not believe she is in need of magical healing from me, and the wounds suffered will heal well enough. Aurelius whispers to the parents of the child, and letting the healing energy in his hands dissipate.

Octavonius listened to the punishment from a distance and took the news in stride when Ohd reported it to him later. Having been a man broken by such punishments himself he dosent think too much about it being applied to others.
Days later, while accompanying the others leaving the jail the vapor is brought to his attention and he studies it from afar warily.
"More fey interference?" he wonders aloud.

Actually I made a mistake: the spell is Obscuring Mist, not Fog Cloud.
The vapors are situated at the far end of the jail, behind the pillories, and despite a soft breeze do not dissipate. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the mist is obscuring at least one person, perhaps more...
