Amala manages to strike the vine again with a well placed shot, yet the spellcasters fail to follow up on this. Fortunately Hallidan manages to break free of the entangling vines and the mysterious cleric moves in to bolster the man's health!
Cimri sends another dagger at the vine...
Dagger thrown: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
...this time her aim is true!
The plant vine is not deterred as it continues to pummel Hallidan...

Hallidan Regg |

Brave warrior? Like hells, I'm getting out of--
WHAM. Before Hal can even finish the thought, the plant smashes into him again and he drops to the ground.

Aurelius Flavius |

Oh Malacoda, Bastard of Bastards, this Bastard will not die to a f~@*ing vine, nor will I for that matter!
Standard action, everyone gets fast healing 1
Aurelius slowly trudges forward.

Amala Zorex |

Amala shoots an arrow at the plant creature.

What the Abyss did I sign up for?!

Fellzir the Mysterious |

Fellzir thinks several things in an instant:
Damnable plant just undid my healing.
I should get out of here. Hal gets what he deserves.
Hal wouldn't want to go out like this. And he would probably pull me out of here.
I can just drag him away and hope Amala kills the plant.
I can drag him away and keep running.
It might kill Oc.
<sigh> I'll just tell him that he owes me a lifedebt.
Fellzir, who had just recently touched Hal's elbow, grabs on and pulls as fast as he can away from the plant (and not toward Oc and Cim.)
Fellzir has a 12 strength and 30 movement, so I went with 20 feet dragging the body.
"Oc! I don't know which way it will move, you might want to back away after you shoot."

Octavonius Procchus |

Octavonius' face goes a little more pale as he watches Fellzir drag away Hallidan. When the former shoots him that warning he can only grimly nod in return. He very much doubted his frail body could withstand a single blow from this strange monstrosity.
"Another one for the road then," he mutters before firing off another desperate Acid Splash.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Maybe it was slightly closer to hitting? The wizard didn't bother thinking long on it before cursing loudly and retreating back 30 feet.

Amala and Octavonius both miss the writhing vine here, while Aurelius calls upon his supernatural aura to grant his allies some healing. Fellzir manages to grab onto the unconscious tiefling (who has stopped bleeding) and yank him away from the plant, which seems to have stopped grabbing the body oddly.
Cimri decides to strike again here, throwing her last dagger at the vine...
Dagger, Thrown: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
...yet is unable to finish it off!
The vine crawls forth and takes a swipe at Aurelius
Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 hit
damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Grapple fail.

Aurelius Flavius |

Cure light wounds at Hallidan: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Rise warrior, although I am midly miffed you didnt see what I did to that plant haha
Afterwards he kneels in prayer
Binecuvântat să fii, Malacoda stăpânul Bastardelor, te laud pentru această victorie obținută și pentru ajutorul acordat, fie ca în numele tău profanator să fac ravagii și distrugeri!
Blessed be, Malacoda lord of Bastards, I praise thee for this victory granted and the aid delivered, may I wreak havoc and destruction in thy unholy name!
Lets see what is actually going on here, and if we find any dead bodies, or valuables, kind of doubt we are the first ones to get attacked, but I am certain we are the frist to prevail.

Amala Zorex |

Amala comes out of her trance after shooting another arrow into the already fallen creature.
"What was this thing?!?!" she asks with some concern in her voice.
She also starts searching the pool and the area as something like this surely killed other people and they surely must have had valuables.

Hallidan Regg |

Hallidan slowly returns to consciousness as the healing magic pours into him. "Wh-- what happened?"
How long does the fast healing last? Or is it already done?

Aurelius Flavius |

Fast healing is gone once the encounter ends, but well, that foe hits a bit too hard to cheese things this way, an Ill take my crits when I get them!
Me awesomely cleaving it in twain happened, and my Lord and commander Malacoda being a wholesome source of aid happened. It was pretty ballsy of you to move up to that thing. Aurelius replies, looking incredibly smug.
May I interest you in the worship of the Lord of Bastards? Here cares naught about birth, bloodline or appearance, only about competence, capability and the will to be victorious. And yes, none of that "obey me" bullshit, he is a mercenary himself, all things are transactional, unless you are an Omdura like me or actually part of his clergy, then the transactions get a bit more involved.

Octavonius Procchus |

"An awesome cleave indeed," Octavonius notes, a bit out of breath as he limps up to join the others. He casts a disparaging look at the building that still lay before them. "We haven't even stepped foot in the damnable place and already we are paying the price for this town's neglect of it. If you all will allow me some time I can prepare a spell that may be useful if anymore monsters like this decide to further impede our progress."
Octavonius is hoping to have about ten minutes to prep a Burning Hands in his free slot before we head into the building proper, if everyone else is amenable.

Fellzir the Mysterious |

Fellzir is amenable to that idea, once he gets his jaw off the ground seeing what Aurelius did. (Omduras are powerful!)
Knowledge Religion on Omduras: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
He will do a quick channel to help Aurelius and Hal feel better.
Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5 healing

Aurelius Flavius |

Thanks Fellzir, Omduras are hmmm, somewhere between an Antipaladin and an inquisitor, with the ability to share a portion of their abilities with their allies. In contrast to inquisitors, we tend to be on the charismatic rather then wise side, in contrast to Antipaladins, we cast spells spontaneously.

I specifically strive to embody Lord Malacodas tenets, success in challenging circumstances, being quite cooperative towards ones group and pursuit of excellence.
Rereading the class a bit, they certainly seem to be a bit more intensely divine, so lets have a mini code of conduct!
There are a few anathemas I can absolutely not do.
Primo, If I enter a contract, based on my free will and without duress, this contract binds me as it would a devil.
Secundo, If an employer betrays me, my wroth is the storm, the sword and the flame.
Tertio, my deeds are my own, my kills are my own, I do not lay claim to the deeds, skills or kills of others to burnish my reputation with possible employers, it is however permitted to pretend to be someone else for purposes of infiltration and deceit, just not during recruitment or employment talks.
Last, the purpose of lifes forge is self improvement, my actions must be driven by a desire to strengthen my position, be it by raising in status, acquiring allies, improving equipment, changing the political situation in my favor or other such means.
I can be quite altruistic towards my squad or my unit, as long as such is reciprocated.

Quickly taking stock of the situation here you realize you are none the worse for wear, except for Hallidan...but the efforts of Fellzir and Aurelius bring the rogue back to full health. After Fellzir sends a wave of healing even Aurelius feels better. Still you decide to pause for a brief moment as Octavonius prepares himself before moving on into the abandoned structure. Amala's quick search reveals nothing of value around the vines pool, as the only corpses appear to be various wild animals that are littered about the area.

Staying near the back of the group, he whispers a warned intention of this plan before muttering his incantations.
Long since returned to the wizard's shoulder, Ohd does his best to read the room and not cry out nonsense at this time.

You all slowly advance into the decayed structure watchful for any threats. The structure is divided into several areas where several varieties of plant growth fight for what limited sunlight is available. At first glance the area looks empty but then Aurelius and Fellzir detect a faint magical aura emanating from the farthest section from the entrance.Peering closer shows a mound of some sort where the aura is coming from...

Aurelius is rapidly moving through distinct speech patterns, perhaps he is currently seeking to recenter his personality? Omduras are temperamental.

Hallidan Regg |

"What d'you see?" Hallidan asks, only half-listening as he explores the rightmost alcove. He squints his normal eye closed to allow his scarred one to reveal the darkness to him.

Fellzir pauses so he can concentrate further, while Octavonius readies for trouble. Amala stands back with her bow drawn while Hallidan slowly approaches the alcove. Fellzir determines the aura is of a faint divination but before he can react...
While the rest of you concentrate on the aura a scuttling mass of legs and mandibles scrambles forward out of the darkness along the walls and floors! "I have our fire covered. Get behind me unless you want to get burned!"Octavonius says with a bit more force than he normally speaks with. He then begins to make wild flourishes with the hand not holding the crossbow and speaks the words necessary to create Burning Hands, holding onto the last word to release it until both the swarm is within range and the allys who wish to avoid it are not.
Octavonius is going to ready an action to cast his freshly prepared Burning Hands spell once both the swarm is within range and his allies that want to avoid the Reflex save for half damage are out of it.
Readied Action Burning Hands(Reflex DC 15 for half): 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5

The mass of webs may have some former victim, perhaps even a living one.

"It is a simple matter to be of service," Octavonius says with a slight clearing of his throat, though adverts his eyes and can't help but let a corner of his mouth tilt upwards from the onslaught of praise.
"Fire hands! Nice words!" Ohd exclaims.
As long as there is no clear sign of danger, Octavonius helps with the search by moving forward with his newly glowing crossbow and searching the area.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16

![]() |

Confident the danger is past you all move towards the source of the aura and, as suspected, it s coming from the mound of webs...or more precisely underneath it. Closer examination of the mound reveals it is what is left of a corpse of a small humanoid here, dried and desiccated. The corpse had a leather satchel (now rotted) but secreted therein is an ivory scroll tube. Also a hidden pouch (again rotted away) reveals some coinage (12 GP and 57 SP) and three small gems (azurite, hematite, and a piece of ivory totaling 60 GP. The scroll case reveals a single piece of parchment, on which is scribed an arcane spell: Detect Secret Doors
Anything else you wish to do here?

Aurelius Flavius |

How interesting, an explorer? Lets see if we can find such doors with mundane means first. Are there any dwarfs we can hire from the city?
Also, it is possible to ascertain how long the body has been here?

Octavonius Procchus |

"If we are sure the danger is clear and none of us are in any particular hurry I would be fine with taking some time to throughouly search the area before either using the scroll or moving on."
If time allows Octavonius(with Ohd's aid)can spend however long it would take to search the area and take 20 on the result for a total of a 26

Hallidan Regg |

"Well that was... much deadlier than I expected," Hal admits. "But if that's everything here, we should head back. I need some sleep."

Aurelius Flavius |

Aurelius improvises a strecher and carries the dead person along for proper burial following possible identification by townspeople.

To whom it may concern.
Following rumors of nefarious activity at the former Erastilian hunting lodge, we have dispatched the monstrosities that infested it.
We have recovered one corpse as well as some of his effects, and seek the aid of the townspeople in identifying the victim.
He also sends as message to his Healer contact stating
Greetings,
we have dispatched a large animated plant at the former Erastilean hunting lodge. It is my understanding that such powerful plants can occassionally have parts with useful curative effects, but I am by no means an expert on the subject. I can likely provide you with an escort to the area on the morrow.
Signed Aurelius
As well as one to the chancellary
Greetings,
we have recovered the former Erastillean hunting lodge from various monstrosities that inhabited it. As it was vacant, and clearly misused by its former occupants allowing the infiltration of dangerous wildlife, there are I believe several grounds to immidiatly return it into the custody of the city government.
Law enforcement in the city would benefit considerably from having a secluded position away from the city proper, as such I would propose that it becomes subordinated to us for now.
Signed,
Aurelius Flavius
Dont mind me, setting up the lodge as a smuggling route. There will be smuggling, so we should run it and benefit from it.

Aurelius composes his messages and sends for a courier to deliver his messages but considering the lateness of the day you don't expect any response right away...
Do you plan on doing anything else this evening? It is now the end of Day 4 so please let me know what you wish to do for Day 5. I will post again on Monday not only to get Amala back from vacation but also to enjoy my birthday :D

Octavonius Procchus |

I think Octavonius would like to add the Detect Secret Doors scroll to his spellbook unless someone else would like to hang on to it. And if he has the time he'd like to create 3 scrolls of Burning Hands (at 2nd Caster level) just in case we run into anymore swarms in the near future. Will go ahead and roll now for attempting to add the scroll assuming it's fine but if someone else wants to take it feel free! Oh and Happy Birthday!
