Scarab Sages

So... If this is a sort of interest and session 0 combo thread, I've been looking at the character ideas as they're progressing to completed. I've noticed the skills + encyclopedia area is getting a little crowded between an Investigator, Occultist, and Arcanist.

I'm liking the multiple possibilities idea of NotEspi's, so I think I'll do the same the and create a contingency character. I'm thinking better party support and combat assistance than an Investigator provides without abandoning skills, which tends to be my happy place.

Question: What do the dour, quietly noble Ilverani elves of the far north do when one of their kind turns out to have a bubbly, cheerful, inquisitive personality?

Answer: Send them away to be Twilight Speakers in the southern lands so they can restore peace and quiet at home. Yes, the classic promotion / exile combo to keep things calmly unchanging at home by getting rid of the misfits.

Question: What happens when a curious and outgoing young Twilight Speaker leaves their village (population maybe 30) and ventures into the exotic south?

Answer: Fish out of water hijinks where almost anything is possible. When one's entire job is to wander about making friends and spreading goodwill, learning everything one can, and writing reports to send back home, accepting some dodgy invitations and proposals is practically certain. If one is sitting in an asylum with amnesia, that just means it's Tuesday.

Skalds don't show up in games very often because Raging Song is rarely a buff most of the party can use. However Twilight Speaker Skalds give out a flat bonus to attacks and saves with no penalties, something for everyone, and they can still provide the rage powers along with it.

Medium armor, longbow + elven curve blade, and combat buffs should mean the character will be combat ready at 1st level. The Bard spell list is great for support, and skalds are as good at face skills as Bards.

Grand Lodge

SUBMISSIONS are finished. The folder contains the backstories and character sheets for all three characters, including the answers to questions you had.

Running a kineticist would be nice, although all three of those can heal. Full casters more than the blaster, of course, but that's a different story.

I would honestly be happy to take Aqil of all those.

But now I wait for the culling.

Good luck, everyone!

Starting wealth: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9 90 gp

So you are planning to play a skald? Hmm. I never liked the shaman class and the skald class, but it would be interesting to see a skald in play.

Scarab Sages

Not definitely instead of my Investigator, no. I'd be happy to play either depending on what fit the party best. Like I said, there's a fair amount of overlap between Investigator and Occultist on one hand, and Arcanist on the other. I know there's almost always some degree of redundancy in a party, just trying to reduce it to a minimum.

I considered a Cleric, but I think divine is covered pretty well, and the Cleric's lack of skill points bums me out. I thought about Magus, which still might not be a bad idea, especially an Eldritch Archer so ranged combat is covered. But Magus doesn't really do support well.

I considered Bard, which is the class I love and have played the most, an Archaeologist might be good, or Studious Librarian. But Bards aren't terribly combat ready. Not that I care much since hack and slash is only marginally interesting to me, but it' nice to be able to help out.

So, I figured why not Skald, similar to a Bard but a bit tougher and I've never played one or seen one played. Twilight Speaker is about the least Skald-ish of the Skald archetypes. Twilight Speakers seem more like wandering goodwill ambassadors/chroniclers/spies for the Ilverani since they're all very much homebodies.

It's primary buff is more or less the same as a Bard's. There's a slightly slower progression on the bonus increase, but in return it retains the rage powers.

I should check to see if the source is okay though. The archetype is from Heroes from the Fringe?

*snip*

No, I don't have that book.

Scarab Sages

Well, never mind then!

Why not make a straight up bard as backup?

Inspire courage and flagbearer feat stacks.

Or a simpler skald? Allies don't need to accept the rage, if they don't want to.

Scarab Sages

Oh, I just meant never mind about the Twilight Speaker Skald. I might yet whip up another alternative character. I enjoy making them. On the other hand, I do like my Investigator and don't plan to withdraw her from consideration in favor of something else.

I could certainly build a Bard, probably vanilla for simplicity, but I haven't figured out a background to get one into the asylum yet.

Another possibility if party combat needs to be boosted some is a Lore Warden Fighter with Bard VMC. Ex-military non-commissioned officer who's now a mercenary. Kinda seedy and wouldn't blink at a shady work offer for good pay.

@RDknight you may consider the Urban Skald archetype, which trades slightly weaker but more flexible rages (that do not hinder allies at all) for access to medium armor.

It is from heroes of the street though which is not on the list.

Heroes of the street

@GM
My current character idea is well, both a Skinwalker and an Abyssal Bloodrager, and (at level 2) also an exciter (spiritualist archetype with a different rage pool) becoming a posessed Oracle at level 3 but he/she just happened to have forgotten about being any of those, with his transformations and control over them only unlocking piece by piece, with the various rage states having distinct personalities, and his mental interior getting pretty crowded.

He was initially a research project on what the "atom of the mind" is, in how many parts can one split a conciousness with the subject being viable?

Skinwalker alas are from pathfinder player companion blood of the moon. And to be frank they are a pretty "Strong" race, providing potent feats, primary natural attacks, some incredibly good senses and I can totally see not wanting to have them.

I was potentially planning to mix it up with a single level dip in Oracle, and the possession curse, creating an extremely powerful willsave in the process as anything trying to posess him will soon reconsider its choices.
Mechanically, all of this would come down to a very high will save bloodrager, with a considerably delayed BAB progression, but a fair bit of versatility, both in terms of tactics and in terms of skills, to compensate for this.

Here is my preliminary submission, fairly flexible and quite confused frontliner.

Research project XN KM 06:

Subject XN KM 06 makes interesting progress. Sole survivor of XN KM line.
Of above average intelligence, perhaps mental bandwidth increases capabilities of handling multiple artifically induced personalities? Should recruit more research subject from universities, how ironic that she sought to become a specialist for Trauma recovery, her contribution to this field will be of a nature quite different from what she expected!
Mental stability maintained in spite of artifical Fanglord transformation, on top of Rage based bloodline manifesting while in state of rage.
Allergy to cold Iron indicates Abyssal rather then Draconic, standard reactions to alchemical silver as predicted from artifical Fanglord.

Will attempt possession with Indiviak fragment in near future, new hiree Ms. Viraya proved highly competent in procuring various Abyssal linked ingredients from Abaslom, likely a spy, but perhaps I can propose to simple present my research to her employers! I would much appreciate greater financial support from an organization likely unfazed by mortal qualms about morality.

That's an interesting dossier.

Scarab Sages

@Liliyashanina: I could, but really it was the Twilight Speaker part rather than the Skald part that interested me.

I haven't gotten around to coming up with anything else, so I'll probably not do it at this point.

Okay, those that have created characters so far:
* KeeperofRunes: Marsyas, human Occultist, Haunt collector
* AngieH: Bobbi Starkaz, 13 year old human arcanist
* NotEspi: Hveslav Setrakian - (human?) Lunar Oracle OR Nawra of clan Serun, half orc shaman, Yasmina
* Evriani: Serrahlia, human urban druid
* Liliyashanina: Research project XN KM 06
* PJP: Doctor Gareau, Human Alchemist
* Arjuna332: Gabrie Ionescu, Human Oathbound Paladin Against Corruption
* Lapyd: Laere Milav, dhampir inquisitor
* Mustaparta: Elthevan, a Tiefling (Kytonspawn) bloodrager (urban bloodrager, destined bloodline)
* rdknight: Miren Carasu, elven Investigator Empiricist

Those that have expressed interest:
J Scot Shady: Beastmorph alchemist (expressed interest, no submission yet)

Okay, everyone, eight of you will make the cut. I've got a good idea who will be playing. If any of you wish to submit something and you haven't yet. You've still got some time to do so.

Those of you that will be playing:

* Laere Milav (Lapyd)
* Bobbi Starkaz (AngieH)
* Doctor Gareau (PJP)
* Gabrie Ionescu (Arjuna332)
* Serrahlia (Evriani)
* Nawra of Clan Serun (NotEspi)

Will those chosen report to the Discussion Thread and check in. Then we can continue for Session 0.

Congratulations and good luck to those chosen!

Scarab Sages

Congrats players! Have a great time!

Congratulations and best of luck!

Hi everyone!

Recruitment is now open for a replacement character.

___________________________________________________________________________ _____________________

This is an Adventure based on the Lovecraftian Mythos. I'm doing an interest check to see who would be interested. The first adventure has you with amnesia. Let me buy that next month or so, so we'd probably get started next month.

Amnesiac Dreams
Player Characters get 25 points to buy their stats with. You also get two traits. Choose wisely.

Books Allowed
I bought the Character Options bundle last March. You may choose your class from the following books:
* Pathfinder Roleplaying Game -- the core rulebook.
* Advanced Player's Guide
* Ultimate Combat -- no oriental classes, please. Samurai and ninja are out.
* Ultimate Magic
* Occult Adventures
* Advanced Class Guide
* Ultimate Intrigue

Plus, you may use any number of accessories to help make your character. Check with me first if I have that book. Please pick 1 class to start at first level, no gestalts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

We just need one character to replace our priest. This is strange aeons, a Pathfinder 1e adventure path.

I would be interested in providing an Oracle as replacement after taking a closer look at the current crew.
I also see you have a 13-year old Arcanist.

Would you be inclined to allow the Child oracle curse(gladly nerfed if you feel it is not balanced, more about the flavor)?
Or a young character?

Always interested in some horror!

@GM first module has Amnesia, should I PM you a possible backstory?
My initial application was a melee frontline that is too optimized frankly, lets see if I can come up with something more interesting.

For my sanity: Quick sifting through current players, mechanically:

Bobby: Arcanist, 20 int, 5 kn skills (arcana, planes, religion, nature, history)

Dr. Everard: Alchemist, 2 knowledge skills (arcana nature), disable device but no stealth

Gabriel Ionescu: Paladin, Diplomacy/sense motive, party face so far. Not intimidate or bluff, no stealth. Main frontline

Narwa: Abserd will save :), high perception, no stealth

Layla: Inquisitor? Sheet implies also Barbarian, high perception, no stealth. Secondary frontline

Overabundance off: Perception, Kn skills.
Missing: Ranged damage, stealth, healing, bluff.

1st Lvl? If so might do a Slayer of some kind.

Tentative submission from Mightypion/Liliyashanina:

Rolling gold:

gold: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9 =90 gold

Looks good, so far. :)

Yes, you may PM me a possible backstory. :)

Tentative dot with Tiff, since it looks like you're also losing your arcane caster. I'll need to delevel her of course. She was briefly in a SA game during book three. You can get the idea of her from those posts. Also she has a full background in profile for that game which will inform you on what I was thinking her past was.

Full disclosure I've run this AP to completion and started playing it many times.

Alrighty. You have an idea for a character?

You're looking at her. I need to make adjustments yet, maybe tonight

There finishedish. I have links to what may be the options outside of your normal purview GM. I believe just the transmuter trait and dual talent alternate racial trait.

Question to the remaining PCs, do you need someone who can deal chip damage? Do you need certain skills? Do you need a tank? Someone who can grab or trip?
