Exploration suits me.

If we take exploration, I would maybe grab Recon, Medic (having both at 0) and possibly survival (not having that at all)

Yes, you all have to agree on the same package. But note that it was intended to spread across all players, not each group of new players that come in (that's a lot of skill points!). So pick a package you like and each new player gets TWO skills from that package.)

_________________________________________________________

As to vehicle, the perk "Personal Vehicle" says (on p. 47) "You can choose exactly what type of vehicle this is but it may not be armed and
has a limit of Cr300000 and TL10."

Looking at pp. 144-146, you have several choices: TL 8 Air/Raft, TL 10 ATV, TL 10 Brutus Heavy Cargo Truck, TL 8 Heavy Cargo Lifter, and a TL 9 G/Racer.

_________________________________________________________

You can choose any gear up to TL 11 from the "Core Collection" section running from pages 100-135. You may not choose Combat Armor, Plasma weapons or Heavy Weapons. Other than that, go nuts.

If there is a non-weapon choice at TL 12 you simply must have, go for it.

I'd like to get started with play by tomorrow, so please finalize your character. Don't forget a full-body image and a formatted header, please.

Nicholas Kaya - 8975B7 - Engineer - Efate(1705) -Nic

Linc are you on board with Exploration?

I'm looking at Gun Combat 1, Pilot 1. I'm thinking Gun Combat(Energy) 1, Pilot(Small Craft) 1

Everyone remember to pick your sub specialties in skills, if required.

I'll do equipment soon.

I'm a bit hazy on that part of the player's guide: what exactly should we link in the header? Doesn't our character sheet come full into the profile?

I still can't find "scientific equipment" in the core-rulebook. Could you please point me to where I can find it? I have no trouble with purchasing additional pdfs. But I don't want to buy them all on the off-chance that it's in there somewhere.
And what would be the prize of an ancients-centered database on Mals computer? The book gives the unhelpful information that databases cost 10-10000Cr - so I kinda suppose it's DM-choice?

Still on the hunt for suitable art.

If it's only two skills, I would go for recon and survival.

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

Or Medic and survival, if Linc is set on recon

M Human "LInc" Forgrave - UPP897C85 - Bosun - Homeworld Dentus - Char. Sheet

Yep, I got Recon and Stealth.

OK, equipment is selected.

I think I've done everything. Tell me if anything is missing.

Malaxius wrote:

They probably mean the Scientific Toolkits, starting on page 122.

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

Ok, found them, thank you! But then the wording of the Benefit is a bit strange.
Leaves the question how to calculate the cost of the database and I'm ready.

I'll update the profile when I'm back from work.

I also found some art that would fit, but it's not "creative common" as far as I can see. Having trouble to find free licensed art that would fit.

Map | Zirelle (pic) | 6|7|6|9|8|5 | Ex-Pirate | Homeworld: Arden (Spinward Marches 1011) | (Additional link to Profile)

You can link to the art without violating copyright. You aren't posting it here... just linking back to the author.

As for the profile-link-in-tag-line requirement, yes, the name links to the profile already, but if you look at my tag line you can see that I added an additional link to meet the requirement, and didn't get any complaints, so feel free to copy what I did if you like. The requirement could be there for people who link out to profiles elsewhere for more complete information. Not sure, but easy to just put another link in there so it is clear.

@Traveller Referee Tarondor

Are you allowing any items from the Central Supply Catalogue?

If so I'd like the following items:

Database /TL 7 /- / Cost 10,000 / Bandwith 1 /From the Central Supply Catalogue - Massive Database that auto updates near 9+ TL worlds.

I read your discussion with Chuck earlier about databases it seems that they replaced that vague discussion with the above idea. I think it might be best if there are large free databases in most hi-tech worlds but some info needs to be payed for. Free would be like the Paizo Boards, Wikipedia, and You Tube etc. Paid would be like Briilant, Skillshare, and more specialized database. A doctor would have medical database access, a TAS member, private TAS database and Members only Site access.

Hope that's not overly complicated, as a retired Database Analyst I once lived on this stuff.

Other Items.

Diplo Vest +3 10 - - Cr250 None

Protec Suit +4 9 - 1 Cr500 None

I'd also note that a Universal Translator is available in the CSC.

The Universal Translator package comprises very sophisticated
software that allows the real-time analysis of both written
and spoken languages. Using a massive database of known
languages and multi-tiered algorithms, even previously
unknown languages can usually be translated.

Software Bandwidth TL Cost
Universal Translator 3 TL12 Cr25000

Nic would not see the need, but some here might.

Weapons:

Static Blade 11 Melee 3D 4 Cr700 AP 5 To be my benefit bonus.

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

I think I got it now. Poke me if I'm mistaken. I just took the maximum price for the database until I get an update on that.

I don't require anyone to use anything beyond the Core Rulebook, but you can look at the Central Supply Catalog if you like. If you get it, be sure to get the one I've linked. You don't want the one for 1e.

If you stick to the Core Rulebook, I'd say that "scientific equipment" is what you'll find listed under "Medical and Care Supplies" and "Sensors" on pp. 114-117.

If you use the Central Supply Catalog, just pick stuff you can tell the Referee with a straight face that it's scientific equipment. I'm not worried about being hyper-literal here.

Malaxius Harvel wrote:

Yeah. There's almost nothing the Imperium (and other governments) keep more secret than Ancients sites, so it's likely to be rather limited or highly illegal (in the 'bad men are hunting for you' sort of way). But still, you could have a database of most publicly-known information on the Ancients for 5,000Cr.

I have an Engineering Toolkit at TL 12 because that is the minimum level, everything else is 11 or less. Primitive tools on Regina.

Also sorry for my poor spacing there the line Nic would not see the need applied to the Universal Translator not the static blade. He knows it's useful just too lethal for him unless pressed.

Anyone know what specific supplies we're going to need for lack of air and lack of heat aboard the supposedly unmanned shuttle? I threw something into my post, but haven't actually looked it up. I can later probably, but been working 12 hour days at work lately, so it will be way later today.

Yes! Please actively move the story forward!

Whoops, when looking up equipment and checking my sheet I realized that I do have a Neural comm on this character, so guessing she did get Frey's message (and putting her other comm in her purse was somewhat superflous, but if she gets caught maybe they will think that is all she needs). So, let's just say she got the message, but is waiting a round to see how things are falling out and to know how to react... especially in terms of what their temporary leader will decide.

____

As far as the mission goes vacc suits have 6 hours of air. I also have a breather mask if needed. Not sure if the combination will get us through.

For heat, might need to supplement with environment suits? They are only 500 credits, so might be worth it for people who don't have / can't afford / don't have the skill to use a hostile environment vacc suit.

The hostile environment ones protect against extremes in temperature, but both those and normal vacc suits (which is the one I have) only last six hours, and we will be in there longer.

Extended life support upgrades a suit to 18 hours of air, but costs 10,000 credits

The core rulebook talks about oxygen tanks and high-pressure oxygen tanks attached to other things, but doesn't give any pricing about just buying a freestanding tank, and that is the only traveler book I have, so if someone else has something with supplemental equipment, let me know.

I also don't see anything about heating upgrades or freestanding heater units or anything. Anyone else?

____

Also, just notes about the job that I didn't put in gameplay.

Guy we need to kill: Ven Yasha (who is the bad guy behind the murder that we started the game investigating)

Place we are going: Ven Yasha’s station, which is a hidden station that from the outside looks like three large shipping containers lashed together – the docking ports, station-keeping thrusters, and defense turrets are all concealed.

Nic notices the that texting is taking place and is disturbed again. "What your comms are on? I thought this place is fully secured. Any electronics that communicate or record is dangerous. It could be monitored by expert systems. Mine is off."

I'm making some assumptions about how much monitoring of electronic communications is made on Regina by law enforcement. I would think it high with expert systems running at least Investigate 1 programs to determine any communication for unlawful reasons exists and deliver it for further action. Civil liberties may restrict this but privacy may not be one of the rights protected. Alexa, just for one example, records everything said around it and it is stored forever. Courts have subpoenaed such records for prosecution. Regina is centuries ahead of where we are now and current capabilities for tracking and monitoring are terrifying already. I'd think, at a minimum all electronic items would be shut down for any clandestine meeting or it would be the same as talking in front of the cops. The GM rules on such matters though, of course.

I don't think I'm playing Nic paranoid, if anything, he's being reckless doing anything with comms. Even today overwhelming surveillance capabilities exist and many countries use them extensively, even "nice" ones.

Nic shrugs at the gun check request. "Just the usual for me, Linc. Stunner, don't like deadly guns. Got a static blade from my trader days, for boarding actions. I mostly depend on my unarmed training. I made Sayokan master a short while ago, so I'm good there."

#TRUTH

While there are many aspects to "Avengers" which may seem like Science-Fantasy, SHIELD using 'everyone in the world's cell phones' isn't actually one of them ...

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

Yes - no argument there. A noobie-mistake on our part.

Nicholas Kaya - 8975B7 - Engineer - Efate(1705) -Nic

I'd think there would be an option for extra heating in Vacc Suits but I don't see one. I'd get a heater too, if it is neccessary, either as a suit attachement, if available, or a side unit(not sure how that would work though without air). Please let me know what is avaiable and the cost.

@Mal Don't worry, it makes sense, on Efate, what there is of government would be incompetent, or uncaring or easy to bribe, or some combination of all of the above;Regina is different. Nic's had Regina as place of hub for years now, and his association with the shady side of life has taught him a few lessons.

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

Alright. Concerning vaccsuits: am I right with the assumption that I should keep to the most basic model, when I don't have the skill?

Nicholas Kaya - 8975B7 - Engineer - Efate(1705) -Nic

Given the way the rules on Vacc Suit is written along with the general rule that lacking even 0 skill applies a -3 DM, if you are made to roll at all for using the suit or doing something like shooting in it then I'd think it would work like this.

If the suit required level 0 then the -3 DM would apply, with -2DM for each level higher to almost anything you did that involved moving or manipulating something. The GM might be kind and only require the worst penalty but even -2 or -3 is harsh on 2d6 rolls. So I would take the TL10 model as I did, and just add useful features to it. Note a TL10 model would be something we would build in the 22nd century or so. Again GM has final word on this, as with everything, just my advice.

Malaxius Harvel. AA6787 - Archaological Field Researcher - Homeworld: Efate (Spinward Marches 1705) Link to profile.

Ah ok. So the other way round. The better ones are easier to use. Makes sense. Missing the vaccsuit-skill was probably another stupid mistake.

Nicholas Kaya - 8975B7 - Engineer - Efate(1705) -Nic
Malaxius Harvel wrote:

I don't think so, in a mostly random character creation system, you have few chances to control what you get. You made reasonable choices based on your concept, not going for optimization. I'm not happy about missing stealth, my marital arts would be more useful with that but I didn't know I was going to be a marital arts master when started, the joy and agony of Traveller. :)

Good news! You'll be able to study and train during down-time. It's easiest to learn skills you don't yet have. Harder to improve ones you do.

Nicholas Kaya - 8975B7 - Engineer - Efate(1705) -Nic

Can't seem to find anything on a portable heater listing in either the core book or the CSC.

Closest is the Fusion Still in the CSC but it's TL 13 and does much more.
Still what would be the roll to quickly get an imported one, Efate very likely makes them and an import seems likely, at a higher cost than 4,500 Cr.

Otherwise what's the cost/weight for a long duration, portable heater at TL 11, battery powered.

UPP 5566AC -- Homeworld: Darrian (Spinward Marches 0627) -- Species: Daryen

You know, I am all for crunch. Love some good crunch. Crunch THIS!
BUT
I also have to say that there are times when the rabbit hole gets so deep that it's almost transformational, like where the campaign could be renamed "Secrets of the Vacc Suits"
and I'm not saying that we don't plan, principaly, but I am also not aware that Tarondor has Gygax-Syndrome and is out to kill all of us (yet) either.

People in the known Universe have conquered the idea of multiple charges for Zero-G Environment Suits. Maybe we could use the ImperiWeb to find this dark sorcery and move forward?

A very valid point but absent the kinds of interaction a live session has it is difficult where to draw the line, and I don't have clear guidance on how this is viewed by the GM. And I'm very detailed oriented person. Just asking questions is how I find out just where the lines are drawn. But I'll roll with however the GM wants to play it. I'd like to move forward myself, I've said all I need to say, my last gameplay post was more a flavor thing then anything else. I tend to make minor posts if the game appears to be slowing down. I try to make them meaningful but not critical, I don't always succeed.

I am not out to kill you. Traveller is dangerous enough as it is. If you tell me you take precautions and think about survival in this situation I'm not going to screw you because you didn't say whatever magic words I was thinking of.

I mean, don't try to tell me you brought a food processor or a grav bike, but I'll assume you brought along the things necessary to perform the task. No need to assure me you laced up your boots.

I am MUCH more about getting to the story than making the accounting work out.
