Not for everyone, but... some Nostalgia!
Any of you remember (or want to rekindle) the pain of Original Dungeons and Dragons, circa 1974 before Basic D&D (but, after Chain Mail). They sometimes call it 0e (zero edition).
I got on a site and they were recruiting...
Char Gen is 3d6 six times, straight down the line. No rerolls, keep 1's and no swapping.
I ended up with STR 15/INT 13/WIS 17/CON 5/DEX 9/CHA 11... they allowed Elf Fighter/Magic-User/Cleric HP 4 - (can only play one class at a time, until you level in each... then you're effectively multi-class). But, XP is split 3 ways... so it will take forever.
Starting with Cleric - so picking gear amounts to all the armor (plate)/shield/helm/blunt weapon you can muster and a wooden holy symbol. The classic 10' pole and 50' rope and some rations, spikes, mallot, etc...
No spells at 1st Level. WIS 17 does NOTHING except +10% Cleric XP (after split).

Yeah I never actually PLAYED that edition, but I have read up on it to an extent. 3d6 straight was standard in Basic, as well.
I actually started with Basic, where your only choices were Cleric, Fighter, Thief, Magic User, Elf (Always Fighter/Magic User), Halfling (slightly different Thief), and Dwarf (slightly different Fighter). Only 3 alignments, Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic.
After the Expert set, I picked up the AD&D Player's Handbook, which was cool because we could start integrating the additional classes, races, and a lot of other stuff. Then not too much later, got the DMG and the Monster Manual.
Interesting times for sure.

And somewhat similar path... one friend started with Giant Modules, that was my first experience. Another got the Basic Set (other end of the spectrum). Started getting my books with 2nd Edition.

I watched a documentary called "Secrets of Blackmoor" on Amazon. All about Dave Arneson's crew before and just after he started working with Gygax. Interesting stuff if you like documentaries. Talks a lot about Arneson's game theories and how they developed out of wargaming from role playing (in the loosest sense) commanders of armies.

Gonna have to check it out.

It's been awhile, but everyone at least has the standard issue laser pistol and staionwear, right?
Correct. Feel free to add another post with an attack action if you wish. Taylor has seen Rudo shoot the slime to some effect, so he knows his laser would likely work as well.

Oh, never mind. I didn't notice your full defend action. Next round then.

Does that mean when they get small enough, they can "die"?

15 hits... At least it did last time.

Trick attack, I roll a skill check to try and beat it's CR+20. If I do, bonus damage.
That's what I get for trying to read posts while walking the dogs... My bad!

What's angry dallo?

Ahh... "...with nasty big pointy TEETH!"
Sorry, brain fart. I for some reason thought like poison ivy. LOL

Some things have changed in my life recently, and I've decided to put off my DM Retirement for the foreseeable future. I'm not only planning on continuing this game for a while, I'm starting a new Homebrew Pathfinder. I wanted to post here first to give you guys first dibs, since you've been with me so long, before I start recruitment. I've got one player (friend of mine) already playing a Gnoll Ranger (I think).
Campaign is set in a warmer grassland climate area with a long history that's seen better days. So far, there's only humans (spaniard-like newcomers and mixed-race survivors from a previous era), Gnolls (also survivors, a rural uncouth demihuman moreso than evil monsters), and Wild Elves (aloof forest elves). I'll allow any PF standard races, and work them into the history so they have a place. Using standard PF 1 rules this time, though I'll allow unchained. I'm hoping for every other day posting, but we'll see what we get.
Anyway, I know some of you are quite busy with life right now, and if any or all of you want to just stick to this game I totally understand. I just wanted to make the option available to you first before opening recruitment.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Damn, if you don't tempt my tummy... :)

It's nice to hear you've decided to keep up the game-mastering bug a while longer, Rudo. Seems you've already hammered out the recruitment though, huh? Snooze you loose.
Yeah, sorry man. In any case, I'm committed to continuing to run this game as well for the reasonably distant future. We haven't even had the "big reveal" yet!

I was just mulling it over... you go for it. I may be over extended time wise.
Trying to teach myself Unreal Engine :) crazy!
If there is an opening later and things have settled down (for me), I could jump in.

speaking of this game, I'm going to give some guidance toward which mission on the current board will do what.
The Region 1 mission is an exploration mission with some combat likely, the Region 2 mission starts out as exploration but has a twist.

Oren for Region 2

Could Oren have requisitioned a rifle? Resolve point?
Oren "Tanta" Knightgale |
I feel better that the multi-attack -4 didn't cause the miss... one attack would have been a whopping... 7.
Rudo "the Saint" Clausius |
Definitely rest and recuperation is in order... I can't stand headaches.
Feel better!

4 rolls, nothing above a 10.
I was doing some crit threat range analysis a few days back... 15-20 (30%) with 2 attacks nets a 50% chance.
I thought for sure I'd hit once or twice, with a decent chance of 3 times over 4 attacks.
I know 4 rolls isn't statistically relevant, but still.
The chance should be much higher since their AC is presumably less than 16.

Yeah, your dice have been crap. I tweaked your second shot (very slightly) so it hit. I won't do it often, but it doesn't make sense for Oren to consistently miss.
Hopefully Oren's the dice curse ends soon.

I appreciate it, but it could also be a running schtick! As long as it doesn't get anyone killed.

I'll leave my ruling as is. Sometimes fudging is necessary; I do it in favor of everyone occasionally to oil the gears. Don't worry though, it won't happen often.
FYI your 2nd shot would have hit and then some if it had been a single shot; it was pretty close.
Oren "Tanta" Knightgale |
Oil any of my characters' gears anytime!
Actually, if I get on a crazy hit streak... feel free to ungrease, too.
Oren "Tanta" Knightgale |
Command structure for current Team Alpha 7 would have Dr Yusil at the top?
I think Oren is lowest ranked, correct?
Oren "Tanta" Knightgale |
How steep is the descent? Athletics +4 (steep), Acrobatics +10 (not steep)?
