Newb question... is Fire (F type) damage different than Burn?

And, does the Vanguard's Entropic Strike critical on a Natural 20?

I rolled a Nat 20, should I have rolled damage twice?

Fire is a type. Your laser does Fire damage. If a creature is resistant to Fire, the laser will do less damage.

Burn is an Effect that most often happens on a weapon critical with a Fire damage weapon. If you critical with your laser, in addition to double damage, it catches on fire and takes an additional amount of damage each round from Burn.

Yes, but don't now, as your opponent's already down. I'm giving you a +7 damage bonus to your next successful attack to make up for it.

Is there a penalty for firing on an enemy adjacent to your allies, like in Pathfinder... creating the need for a Precise Shot type feat?

I looked for it, not that lazy... just making sure.

I'm starting to notice the nuanced differences in combat like, no 5-Foot Step (boo! one of my personal faves)... makes melee combat, especially for a Rogue, akin to a dance.

What's an Aphelion Laser Rifle rate of fire? Can Rudo shoot twice?

I guess so, it's not "unwieldy."

Full Attack

You can spend a full action to make two attacks, each with a –4 penalty to the attack rolls. These attacks can be made with the same weapon or different weapons, though certain weapons have a firing speed so slow that you can’t shoot them more than once in a round, even with a full attack. How far back is the hole in the side? On a scale of 1-5, 3 being the middle... 5 the rear.

Is it closer/shorter distance to get to the helm (assuming front)?

You can add 1500 CR to your purchased items and/or cash on hand, representing your continued paychecks from when this adventure started to the next one. You can also count any or all of this as UBP for any crafting you might attempt during downtime, since they are basically a 1 to 1 with Credits.

I'm aiming for leveling this first time after three adventures, so you're about 1/3 of the way to 4th level.

If anyone does wish to do crafting of any sort, you will have 27 days of Downtime as the Guangzhou journeys to its next destination. We ca RP some of that, too.

Keep in mind my new house rule that you get at most 2 bonuses from Downtime representing the last two actions you've done before the adventure.

A bit freaked out by the whole unseen entity thing, she dives into what she's best at... refreshing herself on neuro-linguistic programming techniques. And when feeling not so intense, she reads about different cultures, both terran and extra-terrestrial.

She's comforts herself by spending time with friends and colleagues, checking on them as time permits and being social.

Rudo
In what passes for VR (holo-deck type, or helmet/goggles) Rudo engages in mental exercises... sharpening his senses, patterns, sounds, reaction times. He also engages in target practice with his rifle and ship weapons.

Rudo checks in on Janessa from time to time, chiding about her tooth and how tough she was planet-side. It's genuine professional admiration and a tad more. He's not coming onto her, just letting her know he understands how awesome she is.

Both ensure their shipboard duties are tended to, checking in with teams, individual subordinates and commanding officers or team leaders.

Oren gets a single reroll on Diplomacy and an extra Resolve Point

Rudo (who probably won't appear in Adventure 2 but you can bank them for next time) gets the a Combat reroll and a +1 for three D20 rolls of your choice for adding to your character's personality.

I kept thinking I had something to add, but never quite got there mentally.

Yusil will spend a good amount of time both studying and working to fly remove any traces of the fungal infection from herself and the others. Scans of the catatonic woman would've been ordered and properly studdied. In part this helps the former actives, while also passing some interesting questions regarding picnic abilities and their effects. This is probably close enough to being two separate activities to count.

Young on the other hand will do much of his usual, with an added benefit to performing a few more combat simulations to prepare himself for the eventuality of more combat. While his performance during the battle left him feeling confident in his own skills, there was no reason he couldn't be even better. Otherwise, he'll spend some time familiarizing himself with the rest of the bridge crew, trying to form some friendships and the like.


Mechanic 4 | HP: 28/228; SP: 24/24; RP: 5/5 | EAC: 17; KAC; 19 | Fort: +4, Ref: +6, Will: +2 | Init: +3 | Perception: +8

Arkady will look into mechanical solutions for the fungus. Ways to keep that stuff out with minimal amounts of additional gear, whether just breathing filters will work, etc.

Dr. Yusil gets a reroll in Medicine and an additional Resolve Point.

Young (who will probably not appear, but can bank these for next time) gets access to the Full Power Pilot Action for 1 use (normally unusable until 6th level). He also gets a reroll in Diplomacy, should he need it.

Vassally-Simmons gets a reroll in Engineering and manages to design a smaller version of the OSF rebreather, which the Captain declares will be assigned for all missions to uncatalogued environments from now on.

All characters is fine. Essentially this is my way of getting everyone up to Wealth by Level (at minimum) by the time you reach your next level, so that you remain relatively balanced against the system.

This gets tricky here, given the setting and house rules. Technically Fusions are magic, so we need to approach them carefully for consistency. I'd say if we can reasonably describe a Fusion as Technology, it's allowable. If we can't, it would by definition be Psionic, and Psionic items are meant to be kind of rare in the setting. So I'd lean away from it unless a PC with Mysticism wants to delve into that aspect of their character.

Short answer: Make an argument for a specific fusion, then GM fiat.

I gave everyone higher than normal Lasers because I wanted two things to be true in the setting:

1. Lasers (and other "guns") are dangers, and even a normal human could conceivably pick one up and kill another normal human outright.
2. It's a high-tech setting, and Aphelion lasers are the gold standard in small and long arms.

So normal rules call for at most +3 over character level, and technically you're already past that with Aphelion; let's say at level 4 you can add a +1 Fusion. Now for a lesser weapon (such as a Tactical Handaxe (Level 4), I'd allow you to go up to 2 Fusions now, 3 at level 4. Sound fair?

Apologies if Oren's (I'm) being overly chatty (post happy)... might be nervous. No weapons and even with weapons, she's not much in a fight.

So, might be over compensating with ideas, suggestions, requests (of other PCs & NPCs). Trying to find her niche.

Trying to be cognizant of time constraints, though we haven't entered "Rounds" yet... a warning before we do would be great!

That would be an Acrobatics check followed by an attack. Hold on that until top of round please.

Trying to be creative and fun (outcome aside).

I got her some bracelets that help with +1 balance to stay on narrow ledges, etc... So I keep imagining her running, one for in front of three other, along some long narrow surface. Arms out for balance.

We are out of combat unless someone follows the security robot, and yes, that sensor is destroyed. all the red dots on the map are security sensors, though Engineer Vassaley-Simmons is working on defeating them temporarily.
