We can also stay.
I can start to summon monsters that can bolster our defenses and are cannon fodder in case it breaks free.
I also have mirror image on myself and can tank for a while.

I'm for husbanding our resources later in the "tough" fights to come, and closing the door on this one for now.

You guys can just come back with the arrow of Carnivorous Crystal slaying that the BBEG is carrying for no real reason...
Or, yes, hit it at it's one weakness - doors. With neither hands nor intellect it won't be leaving this room soon if you close it in.
Shonne |
Well oozes do usually have some form of tremorsense, but it usually has a limited range and there has to be some reason that ratfolk here can live with a monster that can one shot someone.
If Kioshi wants to hang back while the rest of us evacuate, let me be the first to say that Shonne will raise a drink in his honor after the rest of us leave.... If she were a bard, there might even have been a song.
EbonFist |
So...we either have the implausibility of the peasant rail gun or the implausibility of someone grabbing a piece of fabric and pulling.
I'm making one more roll and then I'm assuming everyone got out alive...assuming it doesn't luck out.
Shonne |
So shove Kioshi in, and slam the door to buy us some time buff and draw weapons? ;)
At work. Will post later tonight.
Diazepane Ketal |
Not entirely sure what's going on, but I'd like to point out there really aren't that many opportunities to play high-level PFS1, so I'd rather not this whole thing implode.
A few of us have been together for years, we've settled into a routine, and adding new people always perturbs that routine - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
If there's something that needs to be discussed OOC, let's discuss it here in Discussion or over PMs, and have it settled one way or the other.
Kioshi Katsu |
As long as we are understanding of each other’s preferences I’m completely fine with different views.
I think that in play by post we sometimes just have to make assumptions and for me it is completely fine if something is misunderstood because usually these are only minor details!
We just move with the flow! :-D
And this group is together with this extraordinary GM EbonFist and has really seen lots of fun adventures so I’m very happy with the dynamics to be honest!
Kal'ryon |
Well said Diazepane. I like this group too much to see it stressed- I am not worried about any particular misunderstanding or assumption. As long as a misunderstanding doesn't accidentally cost someone a character, I am really fine with however we end up playing or whatever ends up happening.
Shonne |
I think that in play by post we sometimes just have to make assumptions...
Except this time everyone assumed Kioshi opened a door 40' away. Maybe instead of assumptions we could strive for a little clarity, perhaps most especially in a text-based play by post game.
Diazepane Ketal |
1. I can see why you're confused. You're right, it wasn't super clear, and it could have been clearer.
2. However, you need to recognize few (perhaps none) of us who have been with the campaign longer were confused. It's been rare (perhaps even unique) that we've needed to retreat from a fight, and while I can't entirely speak for Kal'ryon and Kioshi, I'm guessing it was clear to us three (and the GM) that we were going back in because of course we were. Our assumption wasn't some personal slight to you.
I'm happy to be a bit more descriptive, and I agree we should do more of that. Another example would be explicitly saying we're healing ourselves with wands of CLW out of combat, which came up earlier in the scenario. I think that caused quite a bit of confusion as well.

Yeah, like how anyone tracks items or charges used? Since no one seems to track hp used besides the GM, who understandably might not track it between encounters.
To the door. Where on the map is Kioshi supposed to be? Right now he looks like he is about 40' away from where everyone thought he was (myself included until I saw the map). And unless he has some tremendous reach I don't see exactly how he opens the door that people think he opened and still be flat-footed. I would note too that before he came to his current position on the map that he was in the room with the monster. So his icon seems to have been intentionally moved to it's current location, for a reason.
In general, I don't have a huge issue with assuming some stuff, but assuming use of spells and resources between fights, and then not assuming the party would be prepared (healed up, to consciousness in Diazepane's case, buffed, and standing around the target door) to walk back into a fight we anticipate as being dangerous (especially with all the high Int mods out there) seems a bit inconsistent.
I have no issues with backtracking so that all the characters are in the same temporal/spacial plane whichever way we go.
So, Kioshi, where are you?
Kioshi Katsu |
I am sorry! I will also try to be more descriptive.
I really moved my token ... no idea why it wasn't where it should be. I placed it now.
Shonne |
Door decided.
EbonFist |
I moved Kioshi's Icon because he didn't move it after everyone said they were clearing out of the room. Once you all said you were getting out and had a plan, I dropped us out of round by round combat so wasn't too worried about where people were going on the map in the room with the stairs.
A lot of healing happened and, I believe it took 22 rounds in total. Anyone who wasn't directly involved in the healing can, therefore retcon their actions for that time.
After that healing was done, Kioshi said he opened the door again (I assume without noting where his token was on the map.) That dropped us back into round by round tracking and I'm marking that as happening as soon as Diazepane was fully healed (at round 22.)
I honestly don't care where people are starting in the room with the stairs in the new combat because, again there were about 2 minutes where your exact placement on the map didn't matter and some of those icons are in spots that I put them just to clear them from the previous room. This means Silver Bullet can start from wherever he wants instead of in the spot where his token is. As can Shonne if you want to retcon your action because you would have begun at a more advantageous spot.
I only rolled to see if the ooze could break free because there was a chance that it could and it did, but it wasn't interested in leaving the room so didn't do anything until you came back in. There was also a chance that it could have been imprisoned, still. It's immune to the cold damage Kioshi causes with the spell so it was literally just to see if it was free or not when the door opened.
Diazepane Ketal |
Some unspoken assumptions about Diazepane's bombs that we established a while ago:
1. Diazepane always excludes allies from splash using Precise Bombs whenever possible.
2. When Diazepane misses, he rolls a 1d8 to see where it lands. Rules as Written, 1 is supposed to be falling short and goes clockwise to 8. This gets very complex when there are multiple targets (and Diazepane's primary target goes down midway through a full attack). By agreement, the GM has agreed to rule that 1 is always north of the target, and going clockwise around, 8 is to the NW.
3. Diazepane has Splash Weapon Mastery, which does two things:
3.1. He can extend splash on a hit to a target 2 squares away (so he does this whenever possible).
3.2. On a miss, he can "bump" the miss by 1 number, so W can become NW or SW, etc.
4. That all being said, there are some situations where Diazepane's going to miss and end up splashing allies. Shonne and Silver Bullet, would you give explicit permission to getting splashed on occasion? (I will re-ask specifically if you're dying or close to dying, since even a little splash could be really bad.)
Shonne |
Some unspoken assumptions about Diazepane's bombs that we established a while ago....
That's good because Shonne was nearly killed earlier in her career by a "big damage splash alchemist" who was nominally on her side. ;)
EbonFist |
In case it's not clear: you guys aren't at the top of the stairs and no one is blocking your way. If anything, they want nothing to do with you.
Diazepane Ketal |
Just so you're all aware, Diazepane only has 4 bombs left. After he's out, he's pretty much incapable of dealing any real damage, so he'll just move around and hand out elixirs.
Kal'ryon |
Thats already a ton of damage from you, plus the little bits that I am able to do. I think we should be able to drop her by my next round (if not sooner). I *should* be able to stay up through one more round of Aspis assaults, as long as they don't Crit on me.
EbonFist |
As always...what a difference a round makes...

I thought we did that, you mean this wasn't part of NostalgiaCon and it reported way back then and we still fighting?
Nope. This one just ended up running about 3 times as long as most of my games. It was not part of NostalgiaCon.
I do see that Shonne provided the required information a while back, though so I don't need it from her.

Heya, lads. The Chronicle Sheets are HERE.
If you have any issues, let me know. (And please disregard the extra signature in the Equipment section. It's a typo.)
I'll report the game a little later today.
Thanks for playing!
