Kenabres. Fortified city of the crusaders. At the edge of the Worldwound, guarding the border between civilization and a world full of chaos.

And your current prison. Whether falsely or not, you have been accused of some heinous crime, and been placed inside a holding cell in the Kite, a small fort inside the city of Kenabres.

Character Creation basics:
Level: Gestalt 1. If you aren't sure about any gestalt interactions or rules, feel free to ask me!
Ability Scores: 20 point buy, nothing below an 8 after racial adjustments.
Alignment: any non-good. You are not heroes. You do not have to be villains, and can be neutral, but it'll be more of a hard sell as to why you work with active cultists and demons.
Classes: any Paizo, minus Paladin.
Races: any and all Paizo are accepted, as the crusaders aren't picky.
Traits: three total. Two can be unrelated, but the third needs to be deeply connected to why you ended up in this prison, regardless of how you did. Be descriptive!
Wealth: maximum for your highest of the two classes.

Background details:
This is an obviously different campaign angle than a lot of other ones, and that means a bit more detail should be put into the background stories. Sure, it'd be easy to have the random slaughtering CE villain characters, and I'm sure there will be at least some of that in the party. But that's not interesting.

What I want is a party of interesting villains that are willing to work aside demons and cultists of demon lords, for whatever reasons. Revenge, hate of all life on this planet, whatever. Just sell me on your villainous intentions.

Background Questions:
1. What is your character’s name?
2. How old is your character?
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
7. Do you have any other family or friends?
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
9. What is your character’s alignment?
10. What is your character’s moral code?
11. Does your character have goals?
12. Is your character religious?
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
15. Why does your character adventure?
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
18. How does your character get along with others?
19. Is there anything that your character hates?
20. Is there anything that your character fears?

Huge content warning:
This is not really the game for the faint of heart. I will be playing up the brutality of a demon invasion, which will include a lot of violence. Don't worry, I'm not going to touch upon any of the particularly undesirable topics unless it's necessary. But, there will be a lot of blood and gore in descriptions of fights and scenery, as a demon invasion would bring. It just goes with the territory of the type of game I want to run.

This was the warning for my Righteous campaign. This evil-leaning one will obviously be worse, and depending on the party's alignment and goals, a lot of cruel and evil acts could be taking place> I won't go into super detailed descriptions of anything extra, but do be prepared for a lot more violence and evil themes.

If I missed anything, feel free to ask! I know this isn't the typical campaign, so I'm sure there will be some extra questions.

Welcome to Kenabres!

Will need more info on Gestalt and how to make a character with it.(Or maybe just use classes from the Advanced Class Guide that are already sorta Gestalt, like a Brawler?)

Dotting in, I'll get a character in ASAP, although I'm totally willing to take a lesser priority due to the fact that I got into the other game! (Which isn't to say I'm less interested, or don't want to play, just willing/understand wanting to let others get a chance too :) )

Mh i would have preferred the good campaign, but this is also interesting.
Some questions:
Will this be the same campaign, just going from the other angle, so we don't stop things, but escalate them?
I imagine you will have to make up a lot, so it's not really WotR, but more you own campaign?

I'm tempted to use Veda, my character from Strange Aeons here. Could be a good fit, but i also have several other ideas.

Phillip Gastone wrote:

Here are the gestalt rules. Basically combining two classes to create a more powerful and rounded character, usually used when you want a smaller party.

@Hayato: no, it won’t be the same campaign. Just found it fitting to use the same starting point and around the same time. I’ll be creating a story and encounters myself, with the help of an adjusted module here and there.
I’m sure you’ll see some familiar faces if you’ve ever played the actual Adventure Path, but I aim to explore some of the less traveled areas in the Worldwound with some of my own work.

That sounds great!
Sadly only played a part of the first book, never got beyond that somehow.

As I said in the interest check, I have several concepts in mind, including a worshiper of Nurgal, the demon lord of the destructive aspects of the sun, and senseless warfare.

Sounds great to me! Demon lords love a little bit of fun here and there.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Recruitment will be open for two weeks forreal this time, until October 2nd. Gives me time to scope out the applicants and tailor the details of the adventure to their goals.

Ok, this is probably nuts, but I’m seriously considering a Kobold Draconic Sorcerer/Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) who worships Dahak. The Endless Destruction is no mere Demon, but I doubt he’d have a problem working with them. I’ll definitely be taking Dragon Disciple levels, maybe dual-path Archmage/Champions. Seems appropriate with gestalt. No one expects Dahak’s greatest champion to be a kobold, right? Muwhahahaha!

If there's a place to do it, it's this campaign, that's for sure!

Currently considering a Solar Oracle/Solar Sorcerer, or maybe a Warpriest/Inquisitor, both of Nurgal.

However, since I have some time, I'm gonna look through Lords of Chaos and Book of the Damned for other potential ideas.

Hmm.. Thinking an Android Fighter/Ranger who pits himself against all foes to hone his skills to perfection. He finds the Worldwound to be the perfect training ground to fight in and prove the superiority of Nanomachines(son).

Absolute dot!

I've had an idea floating around for a oracle/bard worshipper of Pazuzu that I may work something up for.

Since evil guys is a terrain I rarely move through, I'd need a first skim through the options.

As for concept, I'm thinking some kind of hit man who lacks all kinds of morals. Or so he thought.

Dotting in! Thinking of making a Aasimar Antipaladin/Something else. General idea is that they'd be a fallen paladin who got tired of being nice. For the second class I'm thinking bloodrager, maybe oracle? Probably celestial bloodline bloodrager because I want to have some kind of celestial/paladin-y leftovers for this character and something about being an antipaladin with good-aligned attacks is really funny!

Absolute dot as well :) the good thread was great fun, can not wait to see the PC builds for this.

I wanted to shift Annara over to Lawful-Evil once I got into her build for your good game GM. And now is my chance.

I'm going the Fallen Aasimars path, Born in Cheliax as a child to a lesser noble, the shame of being of angel blood, she was gifted to the church of Asmodeus to save her.

As a person, she is noble, she looks down on those not worthy of her respect or of a lower class.

Her PC sheet is done, and here are her.

Background Questions:

1. What is your character’s name?
Annara_Utoxier-Lee she adds on the Ambassador as to her it means Ambassador of Asmodeus, Nobility and power
2. How old is your character?
72 but looks 28
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
Why a beautiful noble lady, Goldeneyes, skin, and hair, well-dressed and with impeccable manners.
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
She has a melodic laugh, which she uses when burning others to death.
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
Her noble family on the lands of Cheliax, O the same of having a mixed angel blood in the family, so form a young age she was educated to be as whicked and cruel as could. Which she took too. Like a match to kindling.
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
The Baron Untoxier-Lee, The old Baroness seeing her child had angel sent her mad, and she jumped out of a window so they say. Her new stepmother Baroness hated her, but that was not for long as Annara at the age of 12 set fire to her rooms and the hag burned to death. The next stepmother Baroness was much the same but she know the bond between The Baron and his child was strong. As the Baron had promised Annara to Asmodeus, in payment for some boon or other.
7. Do you have any other family or friends?
Yes, many, she has seven sisters and their offspring [one of which is dead, under suspicious cercomstances] and an older Bastered half-brother [who was her lover for a time, but he got old] She ages slower than they and so the family is large. Well, the ones not killed off by others members of the family. hen a large number of ex-lover and those of the church.
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
Great Asmodeus, Single of course. She had a child who is now married with 3 children of her own. One of which is also an Aasimar like her, but she only found out when she heard her daughter had run off with the child to Asmodeus knows where. Annara is not that bothered, let her have a break of freedom, but she will be back. You can't get away from the family.
9. What is your character’s alignment?
She is LE and gifted to Asmodeus, and as a faith, she sees it has her birthright and port of being from the upper class.
10. What is your character’s moral code?
One's word is one's bond, Pay your debts no matter the cost, The rule of law gives mining to life. Suffer not Choas for it dose not respect the natural order of things like Class and position.
11. Does your character have goals?
She is a lesser noble child without title from Cheliax, there is ONE goal, to gain position and title thereby serving Asmodeus.
12. Is your character religious?
The church of Asmodeus.
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
There is an order to things, with those on the top and those below. It is not for those below to question this. Their only use and value are to serve their betters. Just as she serves Asmodeus. Anywho question this do not know their place and are beyond contempt. And can be dealt with as one sees fit.
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?/i]
She likes animals and fusses over them, yet in cold blood happily kills women and children. She is a little OCD about being clean and well presented as a noble should be at all times. To the point of casting magics to keep clean multiple times a day and will refuse to be presented unless spotless.
She has a temper when others question her place, being known to just strike down a peasant for disrespecting her.
[i]15. Why does your character adventure?

To gain money, fame, power, and to serve Asmodeus.
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
She is the brains, and always will be, others may have the right to lead but she is the one thinking 10 steps ahead.
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birthmarks, scars, deformities)?
Other than being beautiful, having bright yellow eyes and flames that play over her skin when her temper is up no, not really.
[i]18. How does your character get along with others?

As long as they do as they are told swimmingly. But she knows that sometimes others can be hard work, so the telling may have to be subtle.
19. Is there anything that your character hates?
Weakness, sentimentally and over-attachment, as well as trumped-up commoners seeing to rule their betters.
20. Is there anything that your character fears?
Losing what little position she has and falling to good.

Still not sure what 'dot' means ... but I can do this.
My bid is to be the Telekinetic this time.

A devout acolyte of Gorum, an absolute agent of Chaos.
NOT evil
NOT good
Fights to fight and feel the effect of his power.

Will absolutely take on the demon hierarchy, because it shouldn't even be there. Because they need to be told they aren't trying hard enough.
They need to hear that they are failing because they aren't selfish enough, and they're weak, and they are more concerned with amassing power than they are with using it. https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Chaotic_neutral

Pure power on the one side, child of Chaos on the other.
TK all the way ... Oracle&DivineScion as soon as possible.
Most likely using the Overwhelming Soul & Elemental Purist archetypes on the TK side.

As I mentioned earlier, very interested.

Basically have two ideas that I have to decide between.

The first is a follower of the Demon Lord Haagenti who sees the Worldwound as a great place to conduct it's experiments. Would be aiming at having a Mutagens, through either Vivisectionist Alchemist or the Fighter or Brawler archetype, and be going for the Evangelist PrC for Haagenti.

The second is the crusader of Szuriel I mentioned before. It's goal would be to keep the fighting in the Worldwound going and have it kill as many people and demons as possible. Would be aiming for the Souldrinker PrC here.

Both of them would look to prolong the fighting. The first because it provides plenty of access to raw materials for it's experiments and the latter in order to cause as much destruction as possible.

Yep, totally decided on being an executioner, the harbinger of death, the envoy of the Dark Lord, collector of souls and skulls or however you want to call it.

I think for an assassin, Magus goes really well - good amount of skills due to having a decent Int, nice spike damage, spell support with Invisibility and other things...

Now it's the other part of the gestalt that I'm thinking of. With 20 point buy we can't afford to spread too thin, so it's either Dex or Int focused.

Let's see what I end up with...

Your first idea sounds very cool! I like that! Would be nice playing alongside this.

I, for one, am excited to see all the different demon lords and evil entities you guys submit worshippers of. Should be fun!

10 minute Background:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

* Dairya is an attractive tiefling with red skin, budding horns, pointed incisors, and a smooth red tail.
* Dairya was sold to a brothel in Iz at a young age (12 years old) by her own parents.
* She was raised by a madame in the brothel (Elinnila) who is a priestess of Nocticula. She initiated Dairiya into the cult.
* She escaped from the brothel but still bears a brand on her left shoulder marking her as property.
* She joined the cult/assassin's guild of Nocticula in Undarin, training as a priestess and killer. In a dark, underground temple beneath Undarin, Dairiya offered herself as a living vessel for Nocticula.
* She returned to the village where she was born to kill her parents, but the village had been wiped from the earth like it never existed.
* She was sent to Keneabres to assassinate a visiting merchant. She killed her target but was captured before she could escape. The city watch doesn't realize she is a priestess of Nocticula.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

* Killing Mazlax, the cambion who still thinks he owns her as a slave.
* Becoming the consort of a demon lord.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character.

* Dairiya's parent's are still alive.
* No one realizes it, but when Dairya escaped from the brothel she could have freed the other slaves. She left them because they were too weak and stupid to escape on their own.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

* Mazlax – A cambion who is the owner of the demonic brothel in the Worldwound where Dairya grew up. He still feels he has claim of ownership over her.
* Elinnila – the madame at the brothel where she grew up. She is a priestess of Nocticula and initiated Dairiya.
* Qinaela – A succubus who is Dairya's current high priestess and the head of the assassin's guild. She will be disappointed that Dairya was caught in Kenaebres after she killed the elven weapon merchant.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

* Dairya still remembers fondly the first man she killed in the service of Nocticula. She fooled the man into thinking she was interested in him and then gutted him with a concealed switch blade knife. She still has the knife.
* When she is angry and preparing to kill someone, she runs her tongue along the fangs in her mouth. Men find this attractive, and then she stabs them.
Dairiya typically wears perfume to cover her faint natural smell of brimstone. Demons find this attractive.

I have been slowly retracting my claws from the boards, but this premise is one far too interesting to pass up. Color me curious!

GM, you imply this story will be mostly homebrew yes? Would you be able to describe from a high level what kind of genre(s) you will be exploring? It is probably a safe assumption to assume some heavy combat based on the context and your content warning, but what else may we expect? Political intrigue? Dungeon diving? Network building? Charting unmapped areas? Just wanting to get more of an idea of what I'll be getting into.

That being said, I tossed around several ideas, but I do think I know the build I'm going to aim for. Wizard (Spellslinger)/Gunslinger. It seems like a combination with devastating offensive potential, and I don't think I've ever had such an idea for a pure glass cannon before, so I'm very excited about it! Will definitely work nicely with a "wants destruction and to watch the world burn" motivation, I'll start drawing up character motivation/personality/background tomorrow. Any thoughts on the initial concept are definitely welcome.

Yeah, it will be mostly homebrew. I think the Worldwound has plenty of unexplored areas, both in areas that were touched on in the AP and even lands beyond the scope of the adventure.

As far as themes go, unfortunately I can't really say just what the end game themes will be. It sort of depends on the final party composition. As you said, a combat focus is impossible to avoid in the Worldwound, but any sort of those themes could be the focus of the adventure.

If I were to guess, I'd say political intrigue and network building will be slightly less important, or at the very least based on who you kill/defeat. Charting unmapped areas likely won't be as important, but dungeon delving for treasure or old Sarkorian relics might be.

'Dotting in' refers to posting a period -- '.' -- and by doing so to be able to have the thread show up on your focused list of threads, so that you can continue to track the thread and see what's new, what's going on, replies etc. without having to hunt the thread down in the larger amount of threads on the board.

In brief, it's a shorthand way of saying, 'I am interested enough in the contents of this thread / recruitment / campaign to want to keep track of it.'

Despite getting into one of the Wrath/Righteous tables, I'm still tempted to put together a qinggong ZAM / psychic.

GM, out of sheer curiosity, would it be okay if a few players submit PCs tied to each other? Either as siblings, or close friends, or something similar?

I know that might put pressure on you to accept them all, so wanted to ask first....

I wouldn't mind that at all. If they don't all make it, can just rewrite that part of the backstory.

Description:

Armstrong stands well over six feet and his greyish-silver skin bulges with synthetic muscles and is utterly hairless, such additions having been erased when he was built. His face
seems to always be in a scowl and his hygiene leaves something to be desired even though his equipment is always kept well maintained.

1. What is your character’s name?
Armstrong
2. How old is your character?
18
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
Tall and muscular male with grey-silver skin and no body hair. He is often clad in scale mail and
carries a great axe.
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
Suspicious glaring and basic misthropies that puts off casual talk. When things get more stressful, like an upcoming
battle, he is more animated and willing to talk.
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
Numeria, from an android birthing capsule. His 'parent' was a Technic League slaver who saw him as a tool and weapon
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
No parents in a traditional sense. Was kept by a slaver who ended up being killed by Armstrong.
7. Do you have any other family or friends?
None
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
Single and alone
9. What is your character’s alignment?
CN
10. What is your character’s moral code?
Perfect mind and body in order to survive. Allies can be helpful to aid in survival but do not trust
them. Don't be a raging jerk since that draws attention, but keep your thoughts and words
to yourself.
11. Does your character have goals?
Survive, find a way to be able to survive alone.
12. Is your character religious?
Knows of the gods and pays respect to Gorum.
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
Other people can be utter monsters, always keep at arm's length and don't
be surprised when you get betrayed.
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
Anti-Social
15. Why does your character adventure?
To hone his skills and get as far away from Numeria as possible.
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
Break bones, rend flesh. Be the chopping block of the enemy.
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
Hairless and grey-silver skin.
18. How does your character get along with others?
Grudgingly if forced to. Works better if part of the military since the routine is comforting.
19. Is there anything that your character hates?
Slavers
20. Is there anything that your character fears?
Being enslaved again

Wow, I definitely have a few ideas flying around in my head.

The first is a Templar of the Ivory Labyrinth, built as either a Slayer/Cleric or a Fighter/Inquisitor (both getting Full BAB, multiple good saves, 6+int skills, bonus feats, and some cool abilities. The former is a stronger caster, the laster has better combat synergy). It could also be approached as an Antipaladin/Bard- it is similar to the second build mechanically, but trades off self-buffs for party buffs (inspire courage!!).

My second idea is a Sarkari (Sarkoran?) God Caller. There are a lot of different build paths, Barbarian or Ranger juxtaposed with Druid or Shaman make sense in any combination. Of course, Summoner also is an obvious choice, and could be placed well against Barbarian, Bloodrager, or Slayer.

My third is a twist on the first, going for an unholy warrior / messianic character. It would pair either Antipaladin or Slayer with Oracle or Summoner (synthesist). The caster component would represent the demon bound to her soul. With Oracle it presents as full casting and a mystery, whereas the Summoner has less casting but can literally take on demon form.

A lot to consider!

Hmm, looks like I need to come up with a villian worthy of the crusade!

Two questions:
1 - many Gestalt characters are very MAD, would you consider a 25 pt buy to assist with that?
2 - any consideration for the Elephant in the Room feat tax rules?

I've got a couple of fun ideas, both somewhat degenerate/funny in different ways, one is a massive amount of DR low AC build with good sustain, and the other is a Noxious Bite Kobold build.

Back for this because it's very interesting to explore a villainous mindset. My current concept is a duskwalker spiritualist/gunslinger with a fear phantom cavorting with the sahkils, leaning into nihilism. Big sniper energy. The phantom most likely resembles a sahkil because why not? The Sahkil Tormentors have really been under-explored. Now I just have to find the right one to follow...

  • Are background skills still in effect for this recruitment?
  • What commonality level are you treating firearms for this campaign? (Referring to this.)

  • Sahkil are a really cool deity/outsider choice to explore! Similarly aligned to demons but with very different modus operandi.

Who am I kidding? I don't really like bad guys... I think the excitement from the Wrath of the Righteous thread got carried over to this one and I just went with it. But as much as I try, I don't seem to be hundred percent comfortable with the concept.

I think it's time to leave the slot for others.

GM how do you feel about a mystique like spy/seducer whose hobby is (becomes) making paladins fall, using abilities like The Dance of Kindled Desires?

Obviously past a certain point things would need to fade to black to keep it tasteful.

@Tara Ravenheart: don’t forget, with the Sakorian god caller at least, that you’re supposed to be in league with the demons. I’m assuming you’d have gone crazy or called a demon for your god or something, but that’s just what stuck out to me.

@Oblivion’s Scion: nah, I’ll be sticking with 20 points. I’ve found that’s the ideal point build for this kind of game. Gestalt and mythic will still give you plenty of power. Also, yes, we will be using the Feat Tax rules. You can find them here.

@polyfrequencies: Yes! Always use Background Skills, I love them. I believe emerging guns is the correct level for this. Numeria is right next to the Worldwound I think, and a gun user wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary. Don’t expect every commoner to know what they are and trust you, though.

@Jereru: sorry you couldn’t make it work! The evil side of this obviously won’t be for everyone.

@FangDragon: that sounds perfect to me! Obviously I’m not going to go into the full details and such, but as long as the party is okay with the theme and such, it shouldn’t be an issue. Corruption is a huge theme of the Worldwound.

Alkenstar has the early powder guns, Numeria is more about lasers and some other high-tech stuff really.

@GM of the Crusade: Would you be ok with slight refluffing?
Like taking the Sworn of the Eldest Inquisitor Archetype, but dealing with demons instead of fey?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Reflavoring it to be you worshipping a demon lord is fine. The +4 against demon abilities and spells is nice, but not too overly powerful.

Ah i didn't even think about that aspect!
Might still be useful though, i reckon there's quite some infighting between different demon lords and their "followers".

Just as a clarification; since we are using feat taxes, and mythic rules, things like mythic weapon finesse still apply without needing the non-mythic feat?

    Background Questions:

    1. What is your character’s name? My name is Goresk Trulk, son of Dren Trulk.
    2. How old is your character? I have seen 26 bitter winters.
    3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)? Did your men not jot this information down? I am a five-foot, eleven human. I normally keep my head shaved but, your guards have allowed it to grow out some. I bet that I would have a darker complexion if I spent less time…working at night. My armor was made to look like bug chiton, the helmet with horns like that of a beetle. I'm guessing both the armor and the helm have been sold off to fund your war effort.
    4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)? Look, just because I didn't get a fancy education like you nobles playing knights doesn't mean I can't be persuasive when I wanna. Maybe it's my rippling muscles, or the way I roll my r's. Could be that they sense that I'm a "salt of the earth" kinda guy.
    5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who? I was born right here in Kenabres. I've spent my entire life watching as crusaders flood my city under the false pretense of saving the world from the demon horde. After the murder of my parents, I was left to fend for myself in a city of self-righteous heroes who didn't care for an orphan child on the streets.
    6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living? When I was young my parents were falsely accused of worshipping baphomet. I watched from the shadows as people prayed to Iomedae while lashing my parents' arms to a pair of horses. I wept as Shelynites sang songs while my parents' legs were tied to two other horses. And my blood boiled as Abadar's clergy recited laws while the horses were urged to run in 4 different directions.
    7. Do you have any other family or friends? There are others who share my opinions but you'll have a tough time trying to get their names from me.
    8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids? What sort of creature would willingly marry me? I think I'd not wish to meet such a being...no, I am not married. Kids? I would never do something so cruel as to bring another life into this world.
    9. What is your character’s alignment? You mean you haven't brought in your paladins and your clerics to find that out? Fine, if you want it from me directly, chaotic evil.
    10. What is your character’s moral code? Interested in Deskari's scripture, are you? Fine. The Lord of the Locust Host tells us that the needs of the many far outweigh the needs of the few. What does matter if a few dozen vermin are crushed if the swarm survives? I would prefer to see His plans come true, I will gladly give my life if it means the swarm grows stronger.
    11. Does your character have goals? I long to see your crusaders crushed beneath the weight of the horde. To watch as they are fed to Deskari's swarms and used to strengthen his numbers. Perhaps one day Deskari may even bless me personally.
[B12. Is your character religious?[/b] I meet with others who share my beliefs. We play dice and sip tea while our children play with puppies...If you're asking where our temple is, I won't betray their trust and tell you.
    13. What are your character’s personal beliefs? Most good people are not. People, especially humans, will abandon any morals to save their own skin. I'd be fine with that fact if they didn't spend every waking moment preaching self-sacrifice.
    14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)? I have no "quirks". I'm a perfect example of a true believer.
    15. Why does your character adventure? To spread Deskari's influence, of course. I've seen the eggs implanted among Mendev and I've heard of some implanted elsewhere as well. I just want to give them the best nest to hatch into.
    16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer? Maybe in a different life I could have followed my parents' footsteps and served the holy warriors. I could've been like them and washed the blood and ichor from linens or mended banners. And I too could've been falsely accused of working against the crusaders. No, no I think I much prefer this life.
    17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)? No, I bear no scars or markings. My flesh is perfectly normal. And it disgusts me.
    18. How does your character get along with others? For the swarm to survive, we must work together.
    19. Is there anything that your character hates? When the "devout" hide behind ideologies in order to commit atrocities under the guise of holiness.
    20. Is there anything that your character fears? I fear rotting in the cell, forgotten and serving no purpose, while the world continues on without me.

    Why Am I in Prison?:

What? You want me to confess my crimes? Was it not enough that I was caught at the scene of the crime? Fine. I suppose in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter anyway.

Four years ago I heard that the man who originally accused my parents of their demon worship had finally come back to Kenabres. No, I won't say his name. He doesn't deserve to have his name recorded. Yes, I see you, scrivener, scratching away on your paper. Jotting down everything I say. I don't care if you were just trying to keep an accurate record. I won't say his name.

It didn't take long for me to track him down. I overheard him at a tavern talking about how the last time he was here he routed out a pair of cultists. F~*#ing idiot. But then he went on about how over the years when he was away from the city he found a pretty wife and he had two pretty children and they all wore very pretty clothes.

But something had to be wrong in that family, right? I mean, who drags their family along to the edge of the Worldwound? Unless there was a reason to leave your family alone.

I started by sewing the seeds of doubt about his wife's faithfulness. A rumor here, a too-personal note left there. It was pretty easy. See, the thing they don't tell you about people who are constantly hunting secrets: they wind up finding phantom secrets too. So, when he found the secret journal she kept tucked away which detailed her love for another man and how she prayed to Asmodeus that he never would discover their daughters' true father it threw him into a wonderful fit of rage. Of course this tiefling, their "real father", didn't exist. But you know, nothing quite like a little bit of holy racism to help things along.

After the Mrs. had her unfortunate fall - you know, the one where she definitely wasn't shoved over the balcony - he became a grieving widower and the sole parent to two pretty children. I don't know if he was just worried that the deaths of the kids would create too much suspicion or if he really did feel some sort of parental bond to them but, it took another year or so of pushing and prodding for me to get him to off them too. And boy oh boy did he do it with flair! Some sort of cleansing ritual that involved burning the corruption out of the living flesh. To children no less! And I thought the demons were the evil ones.

Then it was just a matter of letting his wounds fester. For two years I watched with glee as he became a hollow shell of the upstanding citizen that he once was. His friends grew suspicious and left him. The ones he had once hunted demons with, abandoned him. And none of the mercenary bands would take him on. And when his coin dried up he had no way of leaving the city. He was trapped and alone and it was delicious!

Anyway, I followed him home (home being a pile of burlap blankets tucked under a bridge) from the tavern one night. He was still sober mind you. A day’s worth of begging in this city only earns a small amount. No matter how much charity you hear about. He crawled under into his little nest like the vermin he was and I watched from the shadows. I watched as he shivered and tried to sleep. Hours went by and I watched. Whenever his body would relax and exhaustion was about to take him I’d poke his feet with a little knife.

Eventually, I grew tired of the game. I grabbed him by his ankles and dragged the wriggling worm from his nest. I stood over him and told him everything I had done. Everything he had done. When he asked “Why?” I told him. But, if i’m being honest with you, by that point it was more about my enjoyment over seeing my plans finally hatching so successfully and less about revenge. When he started weeping, I knelt beside him. I wanted to see the fear, the anguish, the hate in his eyes!

Once I had my fill, I gripped his matted hair with my fist and slammed the back of his head into the cobblestones. Over and over. But he didn’t fight me! The bastard didn’t even have the decency to fight back! And I lost my temper. I kept slamming his skull into the stones. Over and over and over. How long? Oh, I can’t be sure but it must’ve been for some time. After all, when your men found me the sun was beginning to peak over the rooftops.

So, there you have it. Anything else you would like from me? Can I go back to my cell now? I slept better last night than I have in a very, [i]very[/] long time.

What do you mean “Now you’re never leaving”? I didn’t think that was an option. I murdered a man in the streets! ...Oh...yes, I imagine the punishment for “interfering with a crime scene” is far less severe than murder. How was I supposed to know that they hadn’t seen what I had done? Can you please just take me away now? This is...embarrassing.

    Feats and Traits:

    Power Attack - Feat Tax
You can make exceptionally deadly melee attacks by sacrificing accuracy for strength.
Prerequisites: Str 13, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks to gain a +2 bonus on all melee damage rolls. This bonus to damage is increased by half (+50%) if you are making an attack with a two-handed weapon, a one handed weapon using two hands, or a primary natural weapon that adds 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier on damage rolls. This bonus to damage is halved (–50%) if you are making an attack with an off-hand weapon or secondary natural weapon. When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every 4 points thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2. You must choose to use this feat before making an attack roll, and its effects last until your next turn. The bonus damage does not apply to touch attacks or effects that do not deal hit point damage.

    Deadly Aim - Feat Tax
You can make exceptionally deadly ranged attacks by pinpointing a foe’s weak spot, at the expense of making the attack less likely to succeed.
Prerequisites: Dex 13, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all ranged attack rolls to gain a +2 bonus on all ranged damage rolls. When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every +4 thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2. You must choose to use this feat before making an attack roll and its effects last until your next turn. The bonus damage does not apply to touch attacks or effects that do not deal hit point damage.

    Furious Focus
Even in the midst of fierce and furious blows, you can find focus in the carnage and your seemingly wild blows strike home.
Prerequisites: Str 13, Power Attack, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: When you are wielding a two-handed weapon or a one-handed weapon with two hands, and using the Power Attack feat, you do not suffer Power Attack’s penalty on melee attack rolls on the first attack you make each turn. You still suffer the penalty on any additional attacks, including attacks of opportunity.

    Weapon Focus (Scythe)
Choose one type of weapon. You can also choose unarmed strike or grapple (or ray, if you are a spellcaster) as your weapon for the purposes of this feat.
Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make using the selected weapon.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.

    Weapon Versatility
You can use your favored weapons in unconventional ways.
Prerequisites: Weapon Focus, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: When wielding a weapon with which you have Weapon Focus, you can shift your grip as a swift action so that your weapon deals bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage instead of the damage type normally dealt by that weapon. You may switch back to the weapon’s normal damage type or another damage type as a swift action. If your base attack bonus is +5 or higher, using this feat is a free action instead.

    Abyssal Eavesdropper
    Category Region
    Requirement(s) Sarkoris or the Worldwound
Having grown up near the Worldwound, you have a rough understanding of the demons’ guttural babble. You add Abyssal to your list of languages known, though you take a –2 penalty on Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Bluff checks made while speaking Abyssal, as well as a –2 penalty on Linguistics checks made to read Abyssal text. If you gain Abyssal as a language again at a later time (such as by taking a rank in Linguistics and selecting Abyssal as a learned language), these skill check penalties become +2 trait bonuses instead.

    Wary of Danger
    Category Race
    Requirement(s) Human—Kellid
Your people are beset on all sides by threats, and you have developed a keen sense for danger. You gain a +2 trait bonus on initiative checks

    Armor Expert
    Category Combat
You have worn armor as long as you can remember, either as part of your training to become a knight’s squire or simply because you were seeking to emulate a hero. Your childhood armor wasn’t the real thing as far as protection, but it did encumber you as much as real armor would have, and you’ve grown used to moving in such suits with relative grace.
Benefit: When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit’s armor check penalty by 1, to a minimum check penalty of 0.

On the other hand, I was watching some old videos yesterday, and an idea came to mind...

I just don't know if it is doable.

Someone sold his soul in an infernal pact when he was about to die, and so he came back from the dead with supernatural powers. That's quite common, yeah.

Now the character has to be tough as nails, hit with unarmed strike or claws if UA is not possible, and wear no armor or light armor at the very best.

Bloodrager/Brawler, maybe? But that's a very bad combo for gestalt, isn't it?

I'll need to give it a thought.

In brief, it's a shorthand way of saying, 'I am interested enough in the contents of this thread / recruitment / campaign to want to keep track of it.'

That was like the most super-thoughtful response, thank you! I became a year older recently, and I have found there is a lot to be said for helpfulness like that.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

GM I'm doing some build brainstorming and I ran into a rules question for you:

If I combine Spellslinger and Siege Gunner, would I be able to apply the Targeted Blast deed from Siege Gunner to the Arcane Gun ability from Spellslinger in order to add additional damage to area spells fired from my gun?

I've quoted the abilities below and bolded the areas that are most relevant.

    Targeted Blast:
At 1st level, when using a firearm or siege engine that targets an area rather than a specific creature, the siege gunner can spend 1 grit point to focus the brunt of the blast on a single creature within the target area. The target creature takes 1 additional point of damage for each level the siege gunner possesses. This is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit. At 5th level and for every 5 levels the siege gunner possesses beyond that, she can select an additional creature to target with this bonus damage. Targets must be selected before any attack rolls or saving throws are made.

    Arcane Gun:
The spellslinger gains the Exotic Weapon Proficiency (firearms) feat, and one or two of his firearms can be arcane guns. Arcane guns are normal one-handed or two-handed firearms in the hands of others, as they were normal firearms before the spellslinger imbued them with magic. In a spellslinger’s hands, they both fire projectiles (bullets and pellets) and cast magic. At 1st level, the spellslinger decides whether he wants to have one or two arcane guns at a time. If the spellslinger chooses to have only one arcane gun at a time, spells fired through the arcane gun that require an attack roll have a ×3 critical hit multiplier.

A spellslinger can cast any ranged touch attack, cone, line, or ray spells through his arcane gun. When he casts through the arcane gun, the gun’s enhancement bonus (if any) is a bonus to the spell’s attack rolls or to the spell’s saving throw DCs. Yet there are dangers inherent to this method. If any of the spells’ attack rolls result in a natural 1 (a misfire), or a natural 20 is rolled on any saving throw made against the spell by a target (an overload), the arcane gun gains the broken condition. If the arcane gun already has the broken condition, the gun explodes. When a gun explodes, it lets loose a blast of force, or if the spell has the acid, cold, electricity, or sonic descriptor, it deals that type of energy damage instead. In the case of spells with multiple descriptors, roll randomly among the descriptors to determine the type of damage dealt by the blast. The blast is centered on a single intersection within the spellslinger’s space (spellslinger’s choice) and deals 1d6 points of the appropriate energy damage or force damage per level of the spell cast. Any creature within the blast other than the spellslinger can make a Reflex saving throw to halve the damage. The Reflex save DC is calculated using the spell level of the spell being sacrificed.

A spellslinger can attune his arcane guns at the start of each day. That attunement lasts until the spellslinger attunes to a new gun, even if a formally attuned gun is destroyed.

My interpretation is that the abilities can be used together, but I wanted to ensure that is the case before I decide to go with Siege Gunner, as it is definitely not a strong archetype choice even with that ability working with Spellslinger.

Edit: I suppose in addition I'll ask if you think there's any chance we will be able to use siege weaponry? It won't be make-or-break, but I thought it may come up once or twice since it's a war setting.

Edit 2: In addition, what do you think about the Scattershot deed from Siege Gunner applying to spells?

    Scattershot:
At 3rd level, if the siege gunner has at least 1 grit point, she can increase the effectiveness of scattering shots from hand-held firearms and blast shots from siege engines. The cone radius of scattering shots or blast shots increases by 5 feet for every three levels the siege gunner possesses (to a maximum of 30 feet at 18th level).

I think this language seems more restrictive to certain kinds of attacks, but wanted to ask to see your interpretation and if you would let it apply to cone-shaped spells.

I’ll have to do some more research and get back to you, I'm not 100% sure on the interaction. I’ll take a look and let you know.

Oops. I meant to include Weapon Versatility I'm the feats since Power Attack is free.

    3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
--- It’s not that Cev’s eyes are just blue; they exude ‘blue’ “Primal Blue”

    4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
--- It would absolutely be noticed, quickly, that Cevendyl does NOT speak Taldane. He knows several elemental languages, his leading speech when meeting someone is Elven. He is working on learning both Taldane & Abyssal.

    5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
--- Born & raised in Iadara, the capital of Kyonin, Ceven proves it really does sometimes “take a village” with several generations of his parents relatives contributing to help him focus his unique skills.

    6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
--- Cevendyl’s parents are both also Half-Elves, both alive, but both a little on the absentee side. They have adventured in Varisia a great deal recently, once they had Cev situated with his occult mentors in Kyonin.

    7. Do you have any other family or friends?
--- All of Cevendyl’s elven relatives have helped raise him, but his maternal grandmother has helped him the most. An aerokinetic dedicated to Findeladlara, she showed him the power of elements very early, and became his greatest inspiration.

    8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
    --- Divorced, no kids …

    9. What is your character’s alignment?
    --- Chaotic Neutral

    10. What is your character’s moral code?
--- Consistent with Question #9 but with a healthy mix of selfish pragmatism; it’s my way, or we fight to determine if it’s my way, but it’s hardly going to be anyone else’s way unless there is clear & present danger in starting a confrontation.

    11. Does your character have goals?
--- Absolutely. His entire motivation around explaoiting the 5th Crusade conflict is that he believes he will amass the skills and power to liberate the Tanglebriar in southern Kyonin from its occupation by the demon lord Treerazer. He wants that to be like his opus of power to all Elves.

    12. Is your character religious?
--- Devoutly. He knows it is impossible to have this much magic within him without the blessing of Nethys, yet the drive and will power in his blood come from Gorum. He is proud to be an Elf, but he is prouder that he has found the way of power.

    13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
--- That it is a heavy burden to be so handsome AND so powerful ;)

    14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
--- Ceven is for sure no stranger to a mirror … when he looks in his own eyes, he feels like he is drawn to the ooccult powers, and the aether itself, and his wild adoration for his god.

    15. Why does your character adventure?
--- He doesn’t. He foments Chaos. But he knew that going to Mendev would be a singular experience to help him grow much much more powerful than seclusion in the city, like so many of his relatives.

    16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
--- It is an extraordinary opportunity, and he is going to take it for all it has to give.

    17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
--- See Question #3 you’re either drawn to or averting your gaze from the Primal Blue; there isn’t really a middle ground. Especially when using magic and it seems to overflow thru Cevendyl’s eyes.

    18. How does your character get along with others?
--- Cev loves people, and really wants them to love him, as tough as that is sometimes. He is willing to shake them …

    19. Is there anything that your character hates?
--- Weak demons … and people who ally with them and think like them. Being self focused is a great thing, doing so at the expense of others means you are getting ahead faster. A little collateral damage in your life path, well, no one told you to stand there …

    20. Is there anything that your character fears?
--- Not so much ‘failure’ per se, but failure and what it would mean to HIM: loss of power, not realizing his dream of flying like his grandmother, being vulnerable to lesser people.

    21. Is there anything that your character loves?
--- Flying. Almost since birth, and very much against his father’s wishes, Cevendyl’s grandmother has taken him into the sky every year on his birthday. The exhilaration spilled out him every time he flew, and allowed everyone to see that the sky allows Cevendyl to be above it all: above people, above places, and able to rain power down on all of it.

I've wanted to revive an old character, Fenix Fell for a while. Skinwalker (wererat) Dark Elementalist Aetherkineticist was his original build. I'll probably do something simple on the other side like UnRogue or Slayer.

Cliff notes of character: NE. Worships Norgorber. never takes off their mask and robes where others can see; obsessed with keeping their identity a secret. Does not appear to be any particular reason, it's pathological.

Could Bloodrager/Skald (maybe Demon Dancer) be a thing here? Reasonably powerful build in Gestalt terms, given that both use STR/CHA, medium armor and probably 2 handed weapons.

    Cliff Notes:

Character is a Kellid, who upon figured that "if you cant beat them, join them", but who opted for Nocticula rather then Baphomet/Deskari as she is stronger then either, and joining her does not mean capitulation before Deskari or Baphomet (whom he regards as invaders). Nocticula also has killed more demon lords then the rest of the multiverse combined, which is something that matters to him.

Needless to say, also big on vengeance and explicitly unfond of being tortured and sentenced to death for consorting with demons by the mendevians (whom he also regards as invaders as well).
