Jakoby & Ro |
Meditating with Spiritbreaker, Jakoby aids her communion with special herbs she finds in the forest, and makes contact with the spiritual remnants of her forebears, who advise her to reconnect with her faith - She had initially taken Cleric Multiclass Dedication at 2nd level, but later retrained out of it... - advice she begrudgingly accepts. By some coincidence, a last will arrives to her by parcel - a great aunt's passing - leaving her a meager inheritance, which she uses to purchase a silver religious symbol...
Earn Income w/ Ulfen Lore (Master, Hireling) w/ Experience Professional vs Task Six (DC 22): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 = 16.00 gold
...furthermore, Jakoby & Ro extend their sabbatical by at least as many days, living off of easily foraged food in the wild, but making regular midnight "drops" of fresh berries, meats, and edible plants to the pathfinder camp, always out-of-sight of the other campers, supporting that community from afar, spending the days otherwise out of contact with people, and reflecting upon the transitions behind and before. During that time, she makes trades with other denizens of the wood, improving the magical quality of her coyote cloak by trade with coin.
Earning 300.00 for Scenario; Spending 590.00 to uprgrade her cloak, plus 2.00 on the holy symbol

Let me know if you need me to make any changes. I listed any purchases/selling that was mentioned but didnt total the purchases/selling in case you were going to buy/sell more stuff.
I'll plan to try to do a soft start either Monday or Tuesday. if everyone is ready by then.
When you're ready please update your character info on slide 2 and then let me know you're ready.
And as a general note I'll be going on vacation next weekend (Friday evening through Tuesday evening). I'm hoping to bring my laptop but it is not the best laptop and internet is spotty where we're going to. worst case scenario there will be a 4 day break in my posts.

GM - I will be ready to play by MON/TUE and through your weekend vacation.
Or. If you need the whole week away from tech, I will be ready to play by the following MON/TUE.
=)
Loving this series so far!

So as I reread this faq on it. Remove everything your character has purchased with GP and your income is set to 85% of the total income earned to represent consumables and sell backs. So if you earned 2,000 GP over your career and you used up 500 GP in consumables and/or lost 500 GP because of sellbacks, and you purchase the boon, you erase your inventory sheet completely and start spending from 1700 gold? If so, I'm pretty sure I gain gold in this instance. I know I lost at least 300 gold in sellback value alone.

With the caveat that redeux has infinity times more authority than I do (so if there's any mismatch in what we say, follow him), what you wrote is how I understand it as well.
Paizo intended for characters to spend about 15% of their wealth on consumables, and designed an average of 8 Treasure Bundles/scenario times 85% retained to equal the Wealth by Level standards set in the CRB. The rebuild is designed to cost AcP and give about Wealth by Level.
In practice, because characters generally receive well above 8 TB/scenario, and they tend to spend less than 15% of their wealth on consumables, this works out to be a financial penalty. But it's not supposed to be - it's supposed to be neutral. And, as you noted, it's possible for characters to gain gold during the rebuild, and that's part of the design, too.
Essentially, it's not a penalty for you because you've been playing the game as Paizo envisioned it.

Zac,
What are you re-building into?
I assume your character's personality and broadest strokes will remain constant - remaining a Fighter lethal at close and far range, for instance.
But I'm curious to see what you end up with.

I'll plan to try to do a soft start either Monday or Tuesday. if everyone is ready by then.
Quinoline is good to go as soon as I fill out the character info.
Edit: No changes to Quinoline. I do have 2 glyphs now, but if I recall correctly, we had enough for everyone to start with 2 anyway, right?

I have no problems with any path forward.
Take a break, IMO. I'm guessing any place with poor Internet means great view.

Yup, you're both right. If Zac has earned 2000gp then regardless of how much was used on consuambles he'd get 85% back or 1700gp in this case and effectively end up with more gold than he previously had.
You're still going to be behind players who never rebuilt and didnt use a lot of consumables/lose a lot of money to selling items, but you'll end up with more gold than you had previously which should put you closer to where you're supposed to be in terms of gear. this is a good thing.

Glad you're loving it! I'm excited for the next part :)

Correct -- There's enough for everyone to have 2 hero points to start (plus greezgux gets his campaign coin)

@Jakoby
Using your hireling to earn income...I can't tell if that's genius or extremely cheesy.
Halgur |
Flexible interpretation of the "Hireling" concept...
...and I can't tell if that's some shade you're throwing there Halgur!?
No shade at all. I try to avoid any sarcasm or ambiguity outside of gameplay tabs since nuance is often lost in print. Bolded character speech in a gameplay tab is a different story.

Hypothetically I should be good to go, but if I'm noticeably silent for Monday/Tuesday, its likely because of this. I am (hopefully) in an area that won't be completely smashed, but it's likely I'll be without power for awhile so posting on my end will likely be over a cell phone. Hopefully it won't lead to any major issues, but if I run into anything unexpected I'll try to let you all know.
tl;dr: Turns out BTS Part 3 is happening Monday IRL whether I like it or not, wish me luck.

@Amada, sounds good. Stay safe. When we do start it will be a somewhat soft start before we really dive into things and i'll make sure you're still good to go.
@Astrid/Jakoby - Nothing in the guide prevents it and it's been brought up to the Guide Lead before and hasn't been 'fixed' so I assume it is 'working as intended' in the meantime. As long as you're not assisting your hireling then it is fine (so hireling can't use your skill feats/proficiency/etc).
Quinoline Silicate |
Do we get the training montage in Gameplay?!?
And if so, will the background music be Eye of the Tiger, or Danger Zone?
GM redeux |
@Zac - did you get your character rebuilt? And if so can you update your level / exploration activity on slide 2
Same for everyone if you haven't already.
@Amada, hope you're safe and well. Let me know if you're ready to begin or not.
I've prepped the first section and should be pretty much ready to go whenever, and my posting from vacation would be minimal effort with the prep already done. So once everyone is ready then we can get this started.
Amada Caradulyn |
Should be good to go, the worst of the storm missed me. The only lingering issue is that my internet network connectivity is shot locally, but my cell network functions so I can still post updates on my end.

Guiding your own recruits - now that is an awesome interpretation - very fun post to read Amada!
(kinda wish I could go back in time and steal that idea!!)
Yeah I had something vaguely similar in mind but Amada's post has most definitely clarified my vision and provided some inspiration.

Astrid wrote:"There it is. We need to get that crystal atop that pedestal. Hopefully without getting ourselves roasted to death by those giant fire-monsters roaming about. Okay here's the plan. Jun-Mei and Olombe, you'll be our distraction. Give the rest of us ten minutes to get into position then do your best to get the attention of those monsters. Play your harp, tell stories I don't really care what you do, just get their attention and do your best to lure them away. Whatever you do, don't let them catch up to you. From the looks of things they'll cook you in seconds. Milo, Meadow and I will split up and each try to sneak over to the pedestal and grab that crystal. As soon as one of us has it we all scatter and meet up back at that weird rock that we saw about a half mile back. Any questions?"
Stealth 32 (nat20)The plan goes flawlessly, Jun-Mei and Olombe provide a distraction while able to keep their distance from the roaming elementals, and the remaining group is able to move the crystal off from the pedestal. Immediately the energy surrounding the area dies down....moments later the elementals chasing Jun-Mei and Olombe just dissipate into the air as the crystal cracks in half. Crit success!
I wouldn't exactly say flawlessly...
Also I was having a hard time coming up with a funny intro for Meadow in that adventure. I'm glad I held off posting for a bit since this worked nicely.
Quinoline Silicate |
I think Amada deserves a Hero Point for roleplay!
Zac Freelan 2 |
So did Jackoby already disable that one too, or do I still take my turn? That was quick. Each Surge lasts until disabled, or maybe later surges have to be disabled twice?
Amada Caradulyn |
Quick side tangent, but my favorite new spell from Secrets of Magic has got to be Winning Streak. 1 Action, Verbal Only, spreadable Haste is a very fun tool. I was fairly hesitant about taking Level 4 casting at earliest opportunity on Amada, but Winning Streak is wildly good action economy, especially for someone who can Winning Streak > True Strike > Attack on the same turn to improve their chances of Critting. Should be a fun spell to play with once I get to those levels; as-is, I'll probably end up picking it up on a wand for use until I hit Level 12.

Wand of Charlie Sheen!
GM redeux |
Also note Trick Magic Item is an action, but my assumption is that since Astrid knew combat was coming that she already had the scroll in-hand.
GM redeux |
If it was not out then Astrid would need to do something else with her turn, since it would be 1 action to draw, 1 action to trick magic, and 2 action to cast Bless. If you would've had it out had you known it was 1 action to Trick Magic then we can keep it. Just let me know what you would've done and we'll get it squared away.
Quinoline Silicate |
Hopefully the GM won't mind a bit of table talk.
Quinoline's arcane DC is only 25; if she casts earthbind, I'm guessing there's a >40% chance of it critically succeeding (and being unaffected) and <10% chance of it failing (and being bound for 1 minute). I'm not even convinced having it on the ground would be better for us. Is it worth three actions (draw, cast) to even try?
Zac Freelan 2 |
I do have felling Strike feat if we do need it on the ground, but we are all using ranged weapons on it anyway. Anyway, next round I'm going to attempt a doubleshot to try to hit the Brimorak at range 3 and the Dragon at range 1 or 2. And then fire off a 2nd shot at the Brimorak, but it might also move closer to us anyhow.
GM redeux |
Table talk doesn't bother me and in some cases even encouraged. You've all been travelling together IC for long enough you'd know each other's capabilities and how you'd handle certain situations/etc. I just prefer any requests/commands that get decided OOC then get communicated briefly in-character to keep the flow going.
