Hi DM - what are the rules for your recruitment? Is this post just to gauge interest? I’d recommend taking a peak at the other recruitment posts to what GMs usually mention when pitching their games. In any case, welcome the the DM world in the forums and I hope you have fun, independently of the party around you ;)

![]() |
This is my first time DMing so go easy on me. There will be no handouts or maps, so use your imagination and go wild. I’m looking for a party of 4-6 characters, and looking to start in a week (12APR2021) Use the following guidelines to build your characters.
Applicable Source Books:
Core Players Guide
Advanced Players Guide
Advances Race Guide (for alternate traits and racial feats only, no custom races)
Ultimate campaign
Ultimate magic
Ultimate combat
Ultimate equipment
Kingmaker players guide
Character build:
Ability Scores: 4d6, reroll ones. Alternatively you may use a 20pt buy if unhappy with your rolls.
Wealth: roll for class, or take average, whichever is higher.
Core and featured races are acceptable, alternative racial traits and racial feats are encouraged to promote individualism.
Traits: select 2, rich parents or any other traits modifying wealth are prohibited. See background for more information.
Background: I encourage you to utilize the background generator in Ultimate Campaign to develop your characters background. Though it is not required. If you choose to do so, pay attention to any traits that open up for your character. You do not need to select a campaign trait if you do not wish, but again, this is encouraged.
Party Selection: for the most part, party selection will be first come first serve, however, if the party is a little one sided, for example the first three submissions are all casters, only the first one will be accepted to fill out important part roles. Plan ahead, and remember this is not so much for just adventuring, but also rolling a kingdom.
Submissions: only completed characters (stats, feats, equipment, ect.) will be accepted. You do not have to post as your character, just provide his stat block. When posting your submission, the first three lines should read as follows:
Character name:
Race/class:
Potential kingdom role(s):
This allows others to see who has submitted for what.
If there are any other questions, or anything I’m forgetting, feel free to ask here or private message me

stats Roll 1: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 3) = 17
stats Roll 2: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 6) = 15
stats Roll 3: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 3) = 13
stats Roll 4: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 5) = 14
stats Roll 5: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 6) = 16
stats Roll 6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 1) = 13
reroll Roll 2: 1d6 ⇒ 6
reroll Roll 3: 1d6 ⇒ 6
reroll Roll 4: 1d6 ⇒ 2
reroll Roll 5: 1d6 ⇒ 1
reroll Roll 6: 1d6 ⇒ 5
2nd reroll Roll 5: 1d6 ⇒ 5
So I end up with:
Roll 1: 17
Roll 2: 17
Roll 3: 15
Roll 4: 14
Roll 5: 16
Roll 6: 15
That's a very good set. I can certainly make a character with that.
What about racial adjustments? And the Human ability bonus?

How could I say no to Kingmaker?
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 2) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 6) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1, 4) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 5) = 20
Reroll #1: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Reroll #2: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Reroll #5: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
Re-Reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 5
That gives me a 14, 16, 14, 14, 11, 15. That is a pretty good statline. I think I am going to bring back my former brigand that raised by orcs and half-orcs inspired swashbuckler.
Are you doing anything for drawbacks? Being oblivious was a great part of the character's personality and I would love to keep it still. If not, I'll keep it there for the flavor.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 6) = 16
8d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 1, 1, 2, 6, 4) = 30
16/15/15/14/10/8
Gold: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 4) = 16 160 gold
Willing to support someone trying his hand at GMing. Will be making a Dwarven Occultist. From the Langebukk clan, who has come to the Stolen Lands in search of relics from his Clan.

DBH wrote:Not sure what you’re talking about. Whatever your race grants you is what you get. ARG offers replacement traits for whatever race you choose which is allowed, and humans still only get a +2 to any one ability score. What about racial adjustments? And the Human ability bonus?
I mean the racial adjustments such as a Dwarfs +2 con -2 chr etc.
I'm planning a human so happy to take the +2. :)
Extra question. Are you using Background skills?

I appreciate the support, but the occultist is not in the approved list of materials I provided. Remember, it’s only the list I wrote so I’m not running around a bunch of books relearning a bunch of classes and spells. Thank you for the consideration though

Your skill points are derived from your class, while not required, I love planning my skills based on what my character would have been doing leading up to his first level in a class. So if you were a farmer, using 1 skill point in profession (farmer) makes sense, but I’m not granting any extra skill points due to your background. If you want a minor boost in a skill that deals with your background, read traits fully, there’s a plethora that give +1 bonus due to actual use of said skills.

9/11/15/11/12/13
13 point build, after rerolls.
Looks like 20 point build, if I keep going, and manage to be on the first come only served recruitment line.
Edit: Yeah, played with the random background generator for about 30 iterations. Not really interested anymore.
Have fun!

I thought it over and went with a Cleric of Sarenrae in the end.
Katarina Lebeda.
Human Cleric of Sarenrae
Potential Kingdom roles: Councilor, High Priest.

Aura (Ex) A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the deity's alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).
Aura of Good (Ex) You project a faint good aura.
Channel Positive Energy (Su) You can unleash a wave of positive energy. You must choose to deal 1d6 points of positive energy damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures of 1d6 points of damage. Creatures that take damage from channeled energy receive a DC 13 Will save to halve the damage. You can use this ability 6 times per day.
House Lebeda (Dwarven) Your family's history of trading along the shores of Lake Reykal pervades your blood. As a deft merchant of the region, you gain a bonus language: Dwarven, Elven, Hallit, Gnome, Giant, Halfling, Skald, or Sylvan. Your family motto is "Success through Grace."
Language Humans begin play speaking Common. Humans with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic).
Noble Born You claim a tangential but legitimate connection to one of Brevoy's noble families. If you aren't human, you were likely adopted by one of Brevoy's nobles or were instead a favored servant or even a childhood friend of a noble scion. Whatever the cause, you've had a comfortable life, but one far from the dignity and decadence your distant cousins know. Although you are associated with an esteemed name, your immediate family is hardly well to do, and you've found your name to be more of a burden to you than a boon in many social situations. You've recently decided to test yourself, to see if you can face the world without the aegis of a name you have little real claim or care for. An expedition into the storied Stolen Lands seems like just the test to see if you really are worth the title "noble."
Orisons You can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells. These spells are cast like any other spells, but they are not expended when used and may be used again.
Rebuke Death (Sp) You can touch a living creature as a standard action, healing it of 1d4 points of damage. You can only use this ability on a creature that is below 0 hit points. You can use this ability 7 times per day.
Seeker You are always on the lookout for reward and danger. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception checks, and Perception is always a class skill for you.
.
Spontaneous Casting You can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that you did not prepare ahead of time. You can "lose" any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with "Cure" in its name).
Sun's Blessing (Su) Whenever you channel positive energy to harm undead creatures, add a +1 bonus to the damage dealt. Undead do not add their channel resistance to their saves when you channel positive energy.
Born in Restov.
Mother alive, father dead.
1 younger brother. 2 Half-siblings. Half-elves. (turned up after Father died. Mother very not pleased!)
Middle-class Merchant family.
Fathers death when she was 10 greatly affected her.
She was healed of a deadly illness when young which inspired her to follow Sarenrae.
Her best friend is an academic who can’t keep friends due to her focus but Katarina is patient enough to stay friends with her.
She lost her lover due to putting the demands of her church over him. He couldn’t agree with her devotion and they broke up.
She is very attractive and good company, so has had a few significant relationships. But to Katarina her faith comes first so nothing has lasted.
Any problems or questions let me know.

The only thing I would think about is your domain spell. You didn’t annotate which one it was, just that you have one. I can reasonably see that it’s your cure spell, but just make sure in the future it’s Prevalent.
Finally, thank you for being first to join the new crew out to tame the Greenbelt!

I've decided with stat rolls like mine, I'll attempt to create my own Conan, so he'll be a human barbarian.
Ultimate Campaign Background Generator
Human Parents: 1d100 ⇒ 55 Only your father is alive.
Human Siblings: 1d100 ⇒ 27 1d2 Siblings. 1d2: 1d2 ⇒ 2 With two siblings, you gain access to the Kin Guardian combat trait.

Conflict Subject: 1d20 ⇒ 12 Child or young person +1 CP.
Conflict Motivation: 1d10 ⇒ 1 Justice +1 CP.
I'll have to examine what these choices could mean before I choose a Conflict Resolution.
Deity and Religious Philosophy - Desna
Character Drawback (possible): 1d100 ⇒ 57 Religion Your beliefs are of paramount importance in your life, whether you belong to a temple, follow a cult, or practice a religious philosophy independently. When others question or attack the beliefs, principles, relics, or structures of your faith, you respond with fury. You gain access to the Zealous drawback.

Joining in for great interest!
I have an alias ready from an earlier application (Raevis under my aliases) but I'll try out this background generator for this one.
Let's see...
ability scores set 1: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 4) = 12
ability scores set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 5) = 13
ability scores set 3: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 4) = 14
ability scores set 4: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 6) = 19
ability scores set 5: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 6) = 16
ability scores set 6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 6) = 20
Reroll 1's on set 1: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Reroll 1's on set 2: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Reroll 1's on set 3: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Reroll 1's on set 5: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Reroll 1's on set 5 #2: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Ability scores after rerolls:
Set 1: 13, set 2: 16, set 3: 15, set 4: 16, set 5: 15, set 6: 17.
O_o I'll, um, have to think about what sort of superhero this character will be :) It's the equivalent of a 50 point buy!
I'll get to rolling the background generator when I can, in about an hour or two. Thanks for offering the opportunity to play this!

If you don’t want to you don’t have to, you don’t even have to roll it if you don’t want. I find it help flesh out a character a bit more and gives the DM more interesting things to play with. Using the example above (sorry Waskally) you can see that I have a lot of options to pick from depending on how he actually writes his background, or it he leaves it as just what he posted, I have a crap ton of freedom. What happened with his current love? How did his father die? Where are his half-siblings or mother? Why was a member of a Brevoy Royal Family in the River Kingdoms to begin with? Lots of fun little plot hooks and story elements to introduce.
Edit: just read your background for Raevis, I love the write up and everything, but you’d have to make some tweaks as it looks like you used the ACG. Make sure you’re utilizing only what materials I listed for character creation.

Yeah, I understand the submission would have to be tweaked, sorry. I just read the words: 'first come, first serve' and I went : "Eep! Better post something nearly ready NOW while I still can!"
That said, with a point array like this I feel like doing something special. I have a decent idea for a semi serious, semi humorous muscle wizard/sorceror. A mysterious, bald-shaven figure with sunglasses who wades into melee with a big stick and a bright pink robe, rips off said robe on every noteworthy fight to reveal an extremely toned figure underneath, and spends the rest of the time kicking ass with just his abs and tight leather pants for protection. Because why kill a man when you can kill them AND make them question their manliness at the same time? :)

Ha ha! Sounds great! Can’t wait to see his write-up!

Drektan |

hustonj, back again.
I think I would like to submit his character, though I obviously have some adaptation to do this morning for the character build rules.
The story will have to be adapted to make him accompany the "best fit" other character. Anybody closely associated with one of the houses of Brevoy would be simplest.
Now, to start the rebuild/rework to put him back at Level 1 and ensure the build references your selected material only.
Edit: Woo-Hoo! This looks like it is going to be much easier than I thought. Race, alternate race traits, class, archetype, traits, and level 1 feat are all already out of acceptable material! Format's not that close to what I've migrated towards, and equipment list has to be thrown out . . ..
Starting Gold 105 avg: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 110, then. Check.

Drektan |

And updated . . ..
Character name: Drektan
Race/class: Catfolk slave/Archivist Bard
Potential kingdom role(s): Councilor (Most obvious for knowledge-bot) or Grand Diplomat (Most obvious for face build - preferred if skills left "as they are")
Currently skill focused on face and knowledge-bot roles. Archetype gives him the ability to use Disable Device on magic traps. Can convert from face role to trap-handler if the group needs.

Character Name Cator Garess
Race/Class Noble born human barbarian
Potential Kingdom Roles General, Warden
Cator's backstory is written as if the barbarian 's lover will be going with him into The Stolen Lands. If DM Dfsearles wishes to change that, or any part of Cator's backstory to fit better with the campaign, I'm more than willing to do so. Making Cator was a good exercise in creativity, and I'm glad I used the Background Generator to help make Cator.

Katarina seems a better fit for Drektan to be tied to than Cator, I think.
Though Cator undoubtedly would have more need of Drektar's abilities.
Real rogue on the way? Anybody?
I am considering making my muscle wizard an arcane trickster prestige class. He'd have a 1 level dip in rogue on level 2 and thus have the rogue skills and trapfinding. Fortunately, the way the arcane trickster prestige class works, he doesn't lose any more caster levels so he can still easily fill the caster/archmage spot.
Currently in the process of looking up the background generation and working it out. Hope there won't be three submissions in the coming two or so hours... need to spread attention to two small children as well.

![]() |
As far as characters tied to each other, that doesn’t matter, it will be explained as I’ve altered the opening. You’ll actually be starting in Restov in order to revive your charter and make character introductions, however, take into consideration your backgrounds as your starting relationships with the other player characters. More on this will follow once we kick off, but for now, think about how you would react to knowing one of your enslavers (in name only perhaps) is in your party. Will you place your undying service to her as she shares the noble house name? Will you simply obey her commands with some disdain? Perhaps you won’t even acknowledge her, as her family was excommunicated from the house? Just good for thought.

Keep us updated! Family life comes first in my book so if it happens, I’ll look to see if I can fit you in.

Thanks :) I'd really hate to miss this recruitment over having a life...

All right, let's see what we roll...
human table, homeland: 1d100 ⇒ 51 > Raised in a metropolis or city (New Stetven, capital of Brevoy)?
human table, Parents: 1d100 ⇒ 17 > Both parents are alive.
human table, siblings: 1d100 ⇒ 10 > 1d2.
number of siblings: 1d2 ⇒ 1
sibling age: 1d100 ⇒ 47 > Older.
Birth circumstance: 1d100 ⇒ 42 > Middle class.
Parent's profession: 1d100 ⇒ 40
Parent's profession#2: 1d100 ⇒ 10 > Peasant and thief. Well, I know where he got his thieving skills!
major childhood event: 1d100 ⇒ 69 Nice :P Also, > magical gift. Wow. I mean, really? That's eerily coincidental given I was going for wizard/rogue and the background generator rolled up the same background! O_o
Wizard training background: 1d100 ⇒ 99 Uncheanchable thirst for knowledge. Okay, seems legit. Was spymaster an optional Int-based kingdom role?
Influential association: 1d100 ⇒ 73 The dead one: was heavily influenced by an undead figure I encountered multiple times but survived.
Alignment: 1d9 ⇒ 7 Chaotic.
Alignment: 1d9 ⇒ 6 Neutral. Ok... troublesome alignment, I'll go with chaotic good instead.
conflicts: 1d20 ⇒ 10 > Betrayal: I betrayed someone who trusted me.
conflict subject: 1d20 ⇒ 14 I betrayed a young child. Um... right...
conflict motivation: 1d20 ⇒ 18 For pleasure. Oh god, no. Rerolling non-evil.
conflict motivation: 1d16 ⇒ 3 For love. No, no thanks. If I betrayed a small child I'll just choose I did it because I was pressured into it by my undead influencer, whom I'll make a vampire to suit this plothook. That I can somewhat get behind. Doing very bad things to children in general goes into uncomfortable territory OOC for me.
conflict resolution > chosen secret regret, regrets it but attmpts to keep it secret.
Total conflict points: 15. I can't find what this does but I'll assume it weighs heavily on him.
romance: 1d20 ⇒ 16 > Several inconsequential relationships. Fair enough.
other player to have a relation with, 1=katarina, 2=Drektan, 3=kator: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Relationship type: 1d100 ⇒ 66
Katarina and my character were servants or apprentices to the same (undead?) master while she is a good-aligned cleric? Spicy! (or alternative one other party member has been under the sway of presumably a vampire depending on how we finish this bond process)
Drawback: 1d100 ⇒ 7 > He is attached to someone or something very closely.

Drektan |

More on this will follow once we kick off, but for now, think about how you would react to knowing one of your enslavers (in name only perhaps) is in your party.
Trust me, the process has started. Part of the reason for my preference of Katarina over Cator, honestly. As he's written, I think compliance with Cator would be based on fear over-riding the complete disdain for him as a person. Just not as fun to play that way.

Are you doing anything for drawbacks? Being oblivious was a great part of the character's personality and I would love to keep it still. If not, I'll keep it there for the flavor.
I apologize, I thought I answered this. Yes, you may take a drawback if desired. Follow the standard rules.

As long as she is ok with it, I don’t see a problem. Though that doesn’t fit her backstory. Perhaps instead you were just seeing each other outside of the temple, but then the call for Adventurers went out and you two broke apart thinking you wouldn’t see scooter again, only to be pooled together by fates chance?

I'm currently in the process of putting the randomly rolled backstory together in a cohesive way. I think that I'm going to leave it vague who this influential undead influence figure is so that I can be surprised and that its easier to slot into the story somewhere. He will not know either as presumably this undead master altered his memory.
I'm writing a secondary underworld figure, his father, who could also suffice for the rolled connection. Though if you rule that having met eachother once around a temple is enough of one, that probably works better. I think the most aligned background connection between the two of them is that Atlas (my char) spoke to her about repenting for a grave sin and that Katarina heard him out as a Sarenrite priestress. Perhaps he follow Sarenrae too in a sort of path to redemption for himself.
I won't be able to finish the submission today as the baby wouldn't sleep, but I ot a draft of the backstory and his physical description. Just need to run a statblock through herolab tomorrow and it'll be done.
Atlas forced his way out of his peasant mother some rough twenty-something years ago in the slums of New Stetven, capital city of Brevoy. Growing stronger, he never truly lacked anything as his father was a high figure in the criminal underworld, someone only known as the enigmatic ‘Kane’. As long as he impressed his dad, his mom could eat and enjoyed ample protection. Not that he needed any, since he had always been the biggest, baddest kid on the block, and his bulging biceps and short temper needed exactly zero encouragement to remind the rabble of it.
However, it took more than that to impress his dad and rise from just another offspring of his harem of easy lays. Fortunately, he had the brains to back the brawn, and his magical talent manifested early when he snapped a d@~!!ead wizard-wannebe’s magical staff in half with his bare hands. The resulting explosion killed most people nearby and should have killed him too, but the arcane magic was just too chicken and bounced off his abs.
Or, as later testing revealed, he simply had a natural affinity for the arcane, which drastically lessened the damage. Either way, from then, his father pitted him against his other children in an intrigue game of death to see who would have the stones to be his true successor and inherited his criminal empire. There, he learned the single most important thing of life and death fighting.
Always go bare-chested for the important fights.
Fast forward a few years and with most of the competition dead, traumatized from manliness overdose or persuaded to leave the country, Kane decided it was time for Atlas to undergo the next step of his training.
He was apprenticed to an undead master (whose name and visage he never seemed to remember), because, or so the reasoning went, no one could be a better magic teacher than an immortal being with supposedly centuries more experience than all others.
Unfortunately, this plan didn’t work out so well. Atlas was tasked with bringing a small child to his master as a price for tutelage, which seemed like a chicken-s~#* cowardly thing to do. However, he had to succeed his dad and take care of his mom. He was in too deep. So he sacrificed a Jonas, a beggar boy who looked up to him, to the undead entity.
After realizing this cost him a good part of his honor and metaphorical balls, he backed out and simply left the city in shame and regret, living his life as a backwater adventurer until he’d atoned and reclaimed it.
His attempt was cut short as two messages reached him: one, only he and his half-brother, Kieran the Cruel, were left to inherit Kane’s position in the underworld. And second, an expedition was set up to literally claim the Stolen Lands as one’s own kingdom. If there ever was a final chance to impress his old man, and possibly redeem himself by ridding the world of some scum warlord and the collected monstrosities that tended to crawl out of Golarion’s ass, this was surely it…
A bald-shaved human man with a goatee and mustache, usually wearing bright red, sometimes pink, wizard robes over a pair of tight leather pants. Not easily deterred, his bulging muscles are still well visible even through the loose clothing. He wears sunglasses and has a long, black polearm strapped to his back.
Normally, he simply enjoys swatting lesser mortals with his beatstick left and right, revelling when they move to rush ‘the frail wizard’ and often not having to cast even a single spell. In moderately serious fights, his first action is usually disrobing, exposing his chiseled chest and abs for all the world to see, often fainting his enemies on the spot (colour spray). In *really* serious fights, he can truly unleash his muscles, growing to *eight times* their normal mass and swinging a gigantic wrecking ball of a polearm at people from well across the street or alley this unfortunate one-sided beatdown is taking place in!

I can't see Katarina doing anything with an undead besides trying to destroy it I'm afraid.
Her parents were reasonably prosperous merchants in Restov until her philandering Father got shanked. Who did it and why has never been discovered? However Katarina was severely affected by his death and as she got older would have looked into the background as much as she could.
Which isn't much sadly. A 'good' girl sniffing around the criminal classes looking for information would stand out and may be how Katarina and Atlas first met?
Her Conflict event was a small betrayal of her lover. The cause being religion. So as far as I see it the matter came down to, "It's me or the church!" And Katarina said "Bye".
Since she's had several significant relationships that have never gone anywhere I'm seeing Katarina as some who is very attractive, very friendly and sociable, but her faith always comes first and ends up breaking her relationships.
Or you could see her as someone who likes it for fun, but runs like crazy when the other person starts taking it seriously. :)
And given her Father dropped several bastards on the family Katarina is always careful about her contraception. :)
