Good morning everyone.

War for the Crown is the best AP Paizo have ever published and the game I played in, here on the forum, is probably my favourite ever PbP game. Therefore I thought I'd spread the love a little and run it for myself!

Key Things
- I am looking for a party of five, and have two people already, so there are three spaces open.
- Recruitment will end at 00:00 GMT, March 19th. I may extend this if it proves too short/there isn't much interest.
- I am heavily invested in the story and setting of WftC so while I am trying to make the build rules fairly open I am unlikely to pick the Nagaji Samurai unless they make a spectacular application.

An alias is not required for submission but I would like to see the stat-block and some backstory. I don't have a required length, long enough to do justice to your character/idea will be perfect!

Build Rules:
- 20 pt buy.
- Core, Standard, Featured and Uncommon races are allowed.
- All published Paizo classes are allowed - unchained classes are preferred but not required.
- Two traits, one should be campaign. Drawbacks for an extra trait are permitted.
- Background skills
- Max HP at level 1
- Roll wealth and then take your result or the average as you please.

No 3rd party material.
See below for rules on feats.

Feat Taxes:
1) All feats that require Point Blank Shot as a prerequisite now require Precise Shot instead. Precise Shot has no prerequisites.
2) All characters get Combat Expertise, Power Attack and Deadly Aim as bonus feats when they meet the prerequisites.
3) All characters get Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat. Any classes that grant Weapon Finesse now grant Agile Manoeuvres instead.
4) I've not decided 100% on this, but if I were to give your character a free Story Feat at level 1, what would it be (and ideally why)?

I'm not sold on all the Elephant in the Room changes to feats, but we can all agree that the above feats are pretty hefty taxes, so I'm happy to dispense with them!

Dotting in. Thinking of putting together a changeling for my submission. :)

One of the few AP's I know nothing about. Aside from the theme of course.

I've always wanted to play an Oracle of Intrigue so will work one up and submit it soon.

An Investigator might be cool for this

Grand Lodge

Hi, it would be helpful to know what characters the two confirmed players are planning to build.

Anyway, Robert is a cardinal cleric of Calistria who was accepted to a game with this AP but never took off. I am submitting him for this game, as I love the story's premise. Robert is much more focused on story rather than fighting, but I hope that wouldn't be much of an issue for this story.

If Robert was to get a free Story Feat at level 1, it would be Deceitful, as it totally fits how he has grown into a near-sociopath level of politics, I mean, without all the evil...

Ooh! I’ve been wanting to play this one for years. Any idea what the two who are already in are playing? Don’t want to double up on a concept with them.

I think I've settled on a changeling Feyspeaker druid. Gonna be picking Young Reformer for my campaign trait.

OMG I love this AP! It has alwasy been the one that got away from me, becuase my tabletop group died before we could do much with it. I'd love a chance to play it now.

I'm not going to lie, I'm currently in the middle of another recruitment so I will see what happens there before I get too much further with this one, but I'm definitly interested! Thank you for offering to run it, and I will think about possible Story Feats (they're great and they never see enought use, IMO).

EDIT: ok, that was slightly a lie as I'm definitely going to put a character together for this game regardless of what happens in the other recriutment. But it might be a day or 2 before this gets my full atetntion.

Presenting Rurik Goldbeard, Sanctified Slayer Royal Accuser Inquisitor of Adabar.

Story Feat: Lost Legacy (doesn't really do anything as most of his cha based skills are wisdom based, but is a great boon if he succeeds)

Background:
Long ago, Kaldor Goldbeard, the head of the Goldbeard Clan earned the title of 'Lord' in Taldor by Grand Prince Dominus II. The Clan was given permission to settle in the Fog Peaks, and was given state funding in the hopes that they might bring stability to the region. This settlement was short lived, however, falling prey to frost giants that made the lands their home. The remnants of the clan remained in Taldor, falling back onto their skills as smiths, jewelers and merchants. In this, though, the title given to their sire remained...technically.

As dwarven generations passed (to say nothing about how the years are counted by men), the title granted to them faded into memory. And for the most part, the clan has been content in their mercantile endeavors, for they have earned themselves a comfortable life in the capital.

Rurik is a priest of Adabar and he knows that in Taldor a title is as valuable as gold. What he desires is the recognition of his family's claim. In this he has come to court, hoping to make a name for himself and to work his way up the social ladder. He has set his sights on Princess Eutropia, seeing in her a woman of character that, if done a proper service for, would be most likely to restore his clan to their proper station.

An inquisitor is always useful to have around! He brings with him +10 diplomacy, along with sense motive, bluff, intimidate and knowledge local as skills with decent enough modifiers. For the group itself, he will be on the front line, but also provides healing / divine spells. Basically, an all around useful guy to have around in social and combat situations.

Wealth: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 2) = 19 190

And with that, he has enough gold for a courtier's outfit with the requisite jewelry.

I'd like to present Etienne St. Germain. He will need to be adjusted some for the build presented here.

He's a paladin of Sarenrae, and openly worships the Dawnflower. His mission is to bring the worship of Sarenrae more into the open in Taldor and advocate for the poor of the nation.

I would love to present Krios for this campaign. I will need to update him for the character creation rules that you have going on but that shouldn't be too bad.

He would be going the route of the Young Reformer and Investigator, using the Young Reformer's special ability to harness the might of radicals and others to do his intimidation and other tactics for him. He's not one to get his hands personally dirty unless there is no other option. Very Lawful Neutral and "do what must be done" kind of mentality.

If he was to have a free Story feat, it would obviously be Vengeance. Quintius Varnisant killed his mother and he would love nothing more than to watch the life fade from that man's eyes.

Starting Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) = 13 x 10 = 130gp

Dotting for interest.

Hey Nik, would be good to know what the other players are pitching.

I've a mind to throw a Half-Elven Inspired Blade Swashbuckler into the mix. Would likely be a Noble Scion of the Barsi family.

Will allow the cogs to turn over the weekend :)

Cheers

BD

Starting gold: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 6, 4) = 25x10 = 250

I've updated the mechanics of the character to match the free feats listed above. This is exciting!

Grand Lodge

Forgot to roll initial gold.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 1) = 13

140gp average is better. I'll adjust equipment if I get selected.

Wealth: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3) = 11 110gp it is!

Hi everyone - Im one of the two players mentioned above! Looking forward to playing an AP I've been desperate to play for some time now!

I'm going to play an Aasimar mesmerist (because how could I not!) for this one. More details to come shortly!

My campaign trait is Child of Oppara and I'll likely take the noble scion feat - not settled on a family yet. Probably Vernisant for some drama.

I am the other player. I haven't 100% decided yet but leaning towards a magical child vigilante. I'll let you know when I make a final decision.

That's so cool! Didn't know about this class, and it makes total sense. Man, this AP brings out so many social potential in Pathfinder, it's inspiring (or... I just had too much coffee).

Right--should roll for my gold.

Druid Gold: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 x 10 = 90

I can live with that.

Knowing what the current players are playing, I think I’ll go with an Ulfen barbarian, a young man who wants to join the Ulfen Guard. (Actually, that’s what I wanted to play in the first place. I’d have changed concepts if necessary, but I’m glad I didn’t have to.)

OK I'm going to go with being the Court Fool. I just need to figure what class fits best

I have adjust almost all of the character, I just need to spend my coin on gear and then I should be good to go. Just as an FYI, I did play through some of the beginning of the adventure but we did not get very far at all before it ended.

Sounds like fun.

I would like to submit Fezzan, a Taldoran Patriot, for consideration.

Crunch can be found in the profile, but briefly he's a Dandy Ranger. Lots of skills and Improved dirty trick to start things off, but lots of room to tweak as he progresses to fit party needs.

Do plan on playing him as a bit of a foppish dandy, though one who can stick up for himself in a fight, and he's got the Noble's outfit to prove it.

Background:

Fezzan comes from a once proud, but now much diminished noble house. With little more than a dream of rebuilding his house’s prestige, he came to the capital to find his fortune. His tenuous, but credible, ties to the nobility allowed him access to the court, where he mingles among the other hanger-ons, leveraging his minor charms and good looks to help to maintain a lifestyle that he can’t quite afford. A fixture at any party he can finagle into, often on the arm of an older, more important guest, Fezzan is a recognizable figure in society circles, though more often than not viewed with disdain as being a bit of a fraud.

From his position inside the creaking wheels of power, Fezzan has seen the corruption and apathy that rots at the heart of his beloved nation. At his core, he is a romantic and patriot (Trait: Taldan Patriot) that loves his country and would see it restored to a semblance of its former glory. With little to no power or influence of his own, there isn't much he can do on his own, but he tries his best to use his admittedly limited access to those that do to try to inflame in them the same passions that burn in his heart.

If we did story feats: I would go with Lost Legacy. I like the idea the House Valdemar’s fall from prominence being due to some historical malfeasance and it actually having legitimate claims to more significant lands and titles.

Thanks for the consideration and let me know if you have any questions.

I was in a campaign of this that fell apart a bit after we started Book 4. I love the campaign and all of the lore around Taldor and would enjoy the opportunity to work through it again. I believe that I can avoid my meta-knowledge, if that's acceptable to you.

If so, then I'm currently considering an Occultist. (I played a Bard my first time through and wanted to try a different angle.) They would be a historian with particular interest in legends and relics of Taldor.

I'm also not sure exactly whether they would fall in the "uncommon" category, but I thought it would be interesting to play an Aphorite. The links to Axis feel especially appropriate. I'm not committed to that race, but wondered if it would be acceptable to you. Would that be okay to start building out, or should I look at something else?

Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4) = 13x10=130. I'll take that gladly.

Submitting for your approval; Lollia Vernisant. She's a geisha bard with a wealthy patron that utilizes her as an informed ear to assist in keeping her inventory of gossip and rumors up to date.

Publicly banished from her wealthy family for the sin of loving the wrong person, she fled to seek anonymity in Oppara.

She has the Rising Star campaign trait and is a skill monkey, face character (bard, duh!) :)

Starting gold for my Intrigue Oracle.

starting gold: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) = 15 150gp. Nice!

A few details to finish and she's ready.

"Ms Lucretia Vernisant, at your service. Don't let my family name colour your image of me, I'm not that kind of Vernisant and have nothing to do with my Uncle's dealings, thank-you-very-much."

Inara here again.

This is Ms Lucretia Tatyana Vernisant, niece of Earl Vernisant. I thought I'd put this up quickly to help anyone submitting. Her background and personality is all written on the profile and build on the link in the tagline. I did go for an Aasimar (Muse-Touched) Mesmerist in the end. I didn't use the wealth roll as I took Rich Parents, as it made sense for my character.

Once people are selected, I'd be happy to make character links.

I haven't chosen a story feat yet as there are so many awesome options!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

@Polyfrequencies: I'll allow an aphorite.

A couple of other things to mention.

1. This game will be quick. One post a day minimum.

2. I use Discord for out of character stuff rather than a discussion thread and will be setting up a channel for this game. Anyone who wants to play should be willing to join in and say hi! :)

I express my interest, but probably will need a bit more time for character development.
Yes to discord and posting at least once a day.

Grand Lodge

I'm ok with the Discord too.

I’ll bow out. Not a fan of discord. Have fun everyone!

I like the fact that everthing I need for gaming is on a single website, so I'm goig to drop out. It looks like you already have some great applications (Hi Itzi! Hi Brainiac ^_^) and Im sure you'll have an amazing game :)

Discord drop too. Hi Brainiac

I'm fine with Discord too. I usually have it up and running most of the day.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

Going to work on a submission as this is one of the few campaigns I have wanted to play but am not currently in.

Discord doesn't bother me, I almost always have it up, but I can't check it during the day at work for 10 hours so I will be missing things until I get home.

Now what to submit...

OK, that was easier to decide than expected. I believe this was the cahracter I submitted the last time. I need to go over her and make sure that she is adjusted for teh build rules but that shouldn't take too much work.

GP: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) = 12x10 = 120

i'll have her finalized shortly.

*EDIT*

And that should have her completed.

At least one post a day you say? You've got my attention

I'll drop out as well. Not a fan of Discord.

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring as an Unchained Rogue, future wizard arcane trickster. Basic stat block and background in the profile, should be good to go as far as the character creation rules are considered.

Discord and a post per day sound great

I'll keep working on my aphorite occultist (they're looking fun so far). Love the posting frequency expectation, and I dig Discord even more.

Occultist Starting Gold: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 1) = 12 x 10 gp (or average 140 if higher).

Edit: I'll happily take the 140 instead.

Starting Gold: 1d6 ⇒ 1

I want to do a human unchained monk zen archer, noble scion of house Clement (200gp come in handy for monks, 35gp barely cover a shortbow!).
Between bringing some melee and especially ranged punch to the table, there are more than enough skills, namely perception, sense motive, but also diplomacy (with WIS mod) and bluff (with WIS mod), as well as some good knowledge skills.

Edit: Ouch! 10gp is really hard....taking 30 instead then.

Starting Gold (cleric): 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 3) = 12 I shall take the average wealth.

Hello, I will be submitting an aasimar cleric of Olheon; a character I've been eager to make for a while. And it looks like WotC is the best campaign to create him in.
He's taken the Child of Oppara campaign trait and campaign variant Noble Scion Feat, making him one of the Kastner. I shall post the link to his character profile when completed.

Dotting in with this alias. Need to readjust to build rules. But Human Sorceress Socialite checking in!

I made this character for War for the Crown and was in a game that petered out after completing Part 1 of Book 1. I would love the chance to continue the story.

As a note, I am also GM'ing this AP on the boards, but I have no issue keeping IC and OOC knowledge completely separate.

In terms of character goals, Kyralina starts out as a self-centered, sheltered, selfish person which I'd like to see grow and mature. While her allegiance is entirely self-serving to start with, I want it to gradually become more genuine and heartfelt.

Her Story feat would definitely be Crisis of Conscience.

Gold roll: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5) = 11

This character, funnily enough, was also in the same War for the Crown game as Kyralina.

I might have some minor tweaks to be made for the build but the fundamentals should be right.

In terms of a story feat, Lost Legacy seems like a good choice.

Gold Roll: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Silver Crusade

dotting. discord is good for me.

I'm thinking arcane of some variety or a gish.

Hmmm . . ..

Thinking about making a personal bodyguard-style combatant. Less about dealing damage and more about preventing other people from being able to do damage.

High Guardian Fighter? Polearm Master? Guiding Blade? Constable?
Courtly Knight? Honor Guard? No archetype? Basically no decisions made except for the niche I want to try to fill. Guess we'll see if I get here before the submission deadline.

High Guardian Fighter and Honor Guard (Order of the Dragon) Cavalier are both VERY flavorable archetypes supporting my concept.

High Guardian is all about protecting one person over the long haul. Would work if the AP had us with our proposed liege solidly, but the write-up in the Player's Guide is clear that isn't the case, so the flavor creates a mechanical disadvantage for play.

Honor Guard allows the focus to change every time a challenge is issued. Heck, the focus doesn't exist unless a challenge is issued.

There are so many ways to implement the idea, though.

Honor Guard (Order of the Dragon) Cavalier is one of the core methods expressed when I did a Google search for other people's ideas about this kind of build.

Versatility of a core Fighter can handle the concept well enough.

Should be able to do it with a Kensai Magus.

Any of the above with 2 levels of Monk, first. Works best with the Kensai or a reach weapon fighter build, of course.

Still lots and lots to think about. Like, why is the Bodyguard here and involved? Pre-game hired into service with a noble family of one of the other players? A "gift" from another nation to the Royal family, and essentially an agent of Princess Eutropia, because, as a foreigner, she couldn't be trusted actually directly serving the royal family? Simply a specifically skilled patriot? Lots and lots to consider.

Wealth: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

So that's 110 gp. Pretty great.

Anyways, I'm going to play a female universalist wizard. A jack of all trades if you will.
