Backstory:

The Valkavians were once a proud family. They fought alongside General Arnisant in the Shining Crusade, punishing the Whispering Tyrant and his undead hordes for daring to threaten the greatest empire since Azlant. Their star, though bright, did not last for long.

It was said that to be a Valkavian was to be cursed, haunted by ghosts brought back from the wars against the foul lich-king Tar-Baphon. Objects moved of their own accord and most heads of the family died not from natural causes, but from supreme misfortune when they were in the exact wrong place at the wrong time. In particular, the 13th head of the family, one Oedred the Third, died when a bookshelf crushed him during the opening ceremony of a grand library in their (now-demolished) manor outside of Oppara.

Needless to say, the high society of Taldor found this ghastly.

This dark stain upon the family ostracized them, and a slow, unstoppable decline was all that was in store for Valkavians.

Olnaris was born long after their glory days had ended. Their townhouse in Oppara was barely big enough for a single poorly-paid servant to work there. It was small and shabby, a far cry from the opulent manor they had so long ago. He grew up with a sad, distant mother lost in romantic novels about a life she was promised but never had and a father that spent more time railing against the nobility than he did actually raising his only child.

Only Kahaled, the family’s Kelish footman and sole servant, took any interest in the boy, and did what he could to make Olnaris’ childhood a pleasant one. Still, he had quite a bit of time alone, and in that time he found a talent. If he concentrated hard enough, if the conditions were just right, he could manipulate what he thought were the ghosts that haunted his family, could convince them to do his bidding and to move objects on their own.

His life was comfortable, and his family had more than most of the Taldan peasantry could ever dream of. That was until his father spoke out against Maxillar Pythareus for a slight against their family.

A week later, an urn fell on his father’s head at a large garden party attended by many of Taldor’s upper crust, including the High Strategos himself. The nobility shrugged it off as another instance of the Valkavian’s ill fortune, happy to let the family fade into obscurity.

Pythareus had paid little attention to the small, pale child playing in the bushes when he discussed his plans to kill Olnaris’ father, to finally do away with a troublesome element of the nobility.

The next weeks were a whirlwind as enemies of the family carved apart what little else the family had. Their home was sold and Kahaled removed from their service. Olnaris and his mother were left utterly destitute, cast out on the street on a cold day in winter. His mother didn’t last long, freezing to death during a brutal cold snap. He was an orphan now on the hard streets of Oppara, forced to steal and scrounge for a living.

He did, however, find that the hard conditions allowed him to refine his uncanny powers further. Even as a boy, Olnaris knew that Pythareus had caused his family’s downfall, and he swore to get revenge.

Olnaris trained his uncanny powers, and as he refined them he found something interesting. It was not, in fact, ghosts. Rather, it was some inherent power that his forefathers simply had not been able to control. It aided him greatly in a life of crime, one he took to with surprising ease.

It took him years, but he clawed his way back into the graces of the Taldan nobility. The Valkavian name had been largely forgotten, something that greatly aided him.

As he set foot in his first soiree he swore that he would get revenge on Maxillar Pythareus, that he would crush the corrupt institutions of Taldor just as that urn had crushed his father at their cruel whims. He had suffered for years as an urchin in the street, and the fire of revenge in his chest would not be quenched.

In the process of quietly worming his way back into the Taldan upper crust, he came to learn of others in Taldor that had similar designs to change the corrupt, baroque nation for the better, one Lady Martella Lotheed prominent among them. While far from an integral part of her network, he made a good impression on her and made absolutely sure that she knew of his sympathies.

There came a fateful day when he received a letter from Lady Martella Lotheed when he knew his chance would come.

Appearance and Personality:

Olnaris is a young well-dressed Taldan man. Though frail, he makes up for it with lightning reflexes. He wears his hair in the style of the younger Taldan dilettantes, long but neatly maintained. His upper lip is accentuated by a thin mustache. He wears nothing by way of armor, and no weapons save for a small dagger. His true power comes from his telekinetic abilities, allowing him to remotely manipulate objects and, if needed, sling them with devastating force.

Olnaris is, at first glance, a charming if somewhat foppish young noble. He takes great pride in his appearance, and does whatever he can to look his best. Beneath his seemingly shallow veneer, however, is an ambitious and calculating mind. His foremost motivation is to tear down the corrupt nobles of Taldor, to bring justice to a country that, in his eyes, sorely lacks it. He also seeks mastery of his powers, to make it so that if he is suspiciously killed there can be no doubt of who did it. Someday, he also hopes to reconnect with Kahaled, to thank the man in Kelish for making his otherwise dismal childhood just a bit brighter. Beyond his goals, Olnaris is quite affable, taking genuine enjoyment in making new friends. His life on the streets has left him somewhat skittish, however, and he will not hesitate to strike against any threats.

Botting:

In combat, Olnaris will make heavy use of telekinetic blast, only using his dagger when threatened in melee.
