I'm also here! I'm fine with the progress of the game, although I have to ask; what's the catalyst for becoming gestalt for the campaign?


The catalyst would be a magical site or event. Maybe 1 or 2 will be present in this game. As we have plenty of players it is not needed. It is something you might need to be searching for.

I should have time to catch up on gameplay after work.


Unless you have the right material to fight this demon it could turn into an even tougher fight...
No one has done any checks to learn what this is or what its weakness might be!

Rules coming to light. I have been alerted that rolling a natural 1 does not provoke an attack of opportunity. At least RAW.

I have always played that a natural 1 opens you to an AoO and won't be changing that in the future for any of my games. Though I will be changing that rolling a 1 stops your turn, I always thought that was strange.

Anyways I would love your feedback on this and hope we can all agree to how we will do it in the future.

I am sorry some of the way I play is based off original 3.5. My players nor have I seen how things change until it is brought to light!

Delilah is still tiny and can't likely open doors. If people catch up to her in the tower you could hear her talking probably.

I am not against house rules, they can be great. I seem to find that penalising nat 1's more affects Martial character more than spellcasters as they get higher level and multiple chances of it on a full attack, especially hasted.

I'm sure it applies to enemy nat 1's too tho, so at least it is fair. Before it comes up, is there any extra things I should expect for say, nat 1's on Concentration or caster level checks?

Note: I did not say I am opposed to custom rules, just that I wasn't told to expect any!

As for the consideration of jumping up and puling himself onto the tower . . ..

The short answer is (by my estimate), in order to grab the top of the wall, I would have to roll a 16 or better. Doable. Not the time to try something that risky, as there's really no benefit other than style points.

The longer answer: Skill +12. +4 for speed with a running jump. +16 for the declared required roll would put his feet 8' above the ground, and the top of his head around 13.5' If he can reach another 6", then he could grab the top of a 4' wall around the tower, and another 18" instead would give him the top of a 5' wall. Assuming the wall was built for humans, there should be points somewhere in that range he could aim for.

Natural 1s on ranged attacks?


I know Dinenen but you have to know that in my two decades of playing no one has caught onto it. It's the reason Monk's were called the flurry of No's.

With ifumbles and the critdeck not being used, nothing unusual will be applying to natural ones.

Only AoO, all enemies open themselves on a natural one too.

And as we speak about it, apparently it only affects melee characters and that seems wrong. I guess getting rid of it would be fine.

My attitude has always been we all screw up here and there. Or bad things happen. Thus when you roll a 1, you have some major bad luck. It is also why I had casters always roll a d20 for spellcasting. I guess I just had a grittier view and maybe more realistic view of D&D.

I will just have to throw different obstacles at you that do the same thing! XD

Physically, it seems everything is okay. Since you asked, though . . .. The stupid is strong.

She never filed a police report about her husband assaulting her.

My wife and daughter let him into the house to spend time with the grandkids. They texted me at work and asked about him staying until bedtime. I was like "You changed the locks to keep him out. What part of he attacked our daughter for no reason gets him welcome in our house ever again?"

Then this last weekend he called our daughter saying he was in the middle of committing suicide, so she dropped everything to go get him and take him to the hospital. Once she got him to an ER, he refused to get of her car. Hospital called the police who solved that problem for her.

Today he called (from the hospital, still?_) to talk to the children before they were out of bed.

I wish I had a way to get her to stop letting him manipulate her.

Quince does a swift once over rooms he does not think any of his allies have been just to make sure there are no spriggans.


Yup, each room looks pretty much a clutter as if theives have been through, but you don't see any spriggans hiding.

L27. Well Room:

This chamber contains a small well and several full water barrels
to provide a secondary water supply in case the stockade falls to
attackers. Twenty buckets are stacked against the south wall.

The well itself is 40 feet deep, the bottom 20 feet of which are filled with water.

It’s a DC 20 Climb check to scale the well’s shaft.

L28. Bunkhouse:

This bunkhouse holds bunks for a dozen individuals and has
hooks on the wall for their clothing and equipment.

L29. Sergeant-at-Arms’s Quarters:

This chamber contains a bed, a chest of drawers, and a sparring
dummy, and seems to have been searched thoroughly.

L 30. Armory:

A large number of weapons and suits of armor are stored
here—the gear seems to have been rifled through but not
thoroughly searched. Hanging from racks and packed in chests are
12 suits of padded armor, a masterwork breastplate, seven
light wooden shields, 20 spears, three short swords, two
handaxes, a shortbow, two longbows, four light crossbows,
2 heavy crossbows, a +1 morningstar, 200 arrows, and 220
crossbow bolts.

L31. Dovecote:

Wire cages hang from the rafters of this chamber, and the floor
beneath is spattered with droppings. Sacks of seed are stacked
near the door. The cage doors stand open and are empty but
for a sprinkling of feathers.

L32. Kitchen and Stores:

This chamber is cluttered with the accoutrements of a
kitchen, complete with a small fireplace and grill, as well
as a larder for foodstuffs. Crates and boxes are stacked
in the western portion, while the main area has been
converted into a bedroom.

L33. Master of Dispatch’s Quarters:

These quarters are now a chaos of broken furniture and scattered parchments. A small library has been utterly destroyed by the spriggans, and a search through the scattered parchments reveals only mundane
correspondence between the colony and Restov. There are a number of mentions of conf licts with the Nomen centaur tribe, but nothing to hint at what may have befallen the village.

Perception DC 23:
You locate an intact page or pages torn from one of Cephal’s spellbooks. This check can be attempted a total of 6 times, with each success discovering one of the following spells: bear’s endurance,comprehend languages, f laming sphere, keen edge, mount, and
tiny hut.

L34. Governor’s Quarters:

The only hint that this room once housed the leader of
Varnhold is the large map of the Nomen heights tacked to one
wall. The map has been torn to shreds, and the other bedroom
furnishings are either similarly ruined or else missing.

Perception DC 25:

You think you can reconstruct the map. Doing so allows the PCs to fill in all of the terrain details and non-hidden encounter areas within two hexes of Varnhold, as well as the hex containing the Nomen tribe (area P).
Consider these hexes explored by the PCs (although any
unvisited encounter areas must be resolved by an actual
trip to those areas).

L35. Guardroom and L36. and L37.:

L35. Guardroom
The ceiling of this chamber forms a 10-foot-wide
shaft that extends upward 20 feet to the floor of area L36,
and a ladder bolted to the north wall leads to a trap door
leading out to the watch post.

L36. Overlook
This narrow corridor is set with firing loops and murder holes
to provide a view of the surrounding grounds and the area
immediately below.
The firing loops provide improved cover.

L37. Watch Post
This rooftop platform provides a commanding view of the
village and surrounding area. Close-set logs provide cover to
anyone standing a watch.
A broken pole lying on the platform floor
bears the soiled banners of both Brevoy and the house of
Varn.
