That is the sad truth of that analogy. I feel like an A-hole now. LOL

Quince Medvyed |

Hey all, I've been unable to get into the groove of this game so I am officially bowing out. Thanks for the opportunity and enjoy.
Sorry to see you go. Take care.

GM Wolf |

Roland before you bow out you should walk your character off... Otherwise he will... 'Leroy Jenkins!!!'
Delilah is there anywhere else you plan on investigating?
Anyone else wanting to go back out to scout?
Honestly knowing some of your character's backgrounds I am not surprised that anyone has gone rushing looking for their loved ones!
Cleonora is likely not going to post anytime soon, she is having some real IRL issues. So right now we have for players: Quince, Sindri, Dinenen, Lykan, and Delilah.
I hope our other players join us but it is unlikely. And then there was five.
Did Roland even make many posts?!? Or Layla?

Dinenen |

May not have felt like there was anything left for them to say or contribute.
I'm in another large group game where I'm playing a jock fighter with basically no knowledge skills or expanded background. Given how I normally post late evening only during the week, there are LOTS of times where there's nothing left for him to contribute when it gets to be my chance to post. But I planned to play him that way, anyway, so it is easy for me to accept and keep him involved like a poorly educated jock. If they had set loftier expectations, but couldn't figure out how to meet them . . .. <shrug>
It does take a certain attitude to keep pushing when the group has run past your expected ability to contribute. The whole Irori challenge thing helps keep Dinenen going. "Okay, can't/won't/shouldn't do that. What can I try to do instead?" Attitude.

Quince Medvyed |

St. John posted on Friday as well.
Honestly I know that our last few days has been rp heavy. Because those who chose not to scout are watching, and prepping.
I think things would have sooner and will pick up not just in number of posts but in action once the scouting is done.
I think that real life hustle and bustle is the issue at the moment.

Quince Medvyed |

Roland before you bow out you should walk your character off... Otherwise he will... 'Leroy Jenkins!!!'
LOL
Please don't do that it would make the rest of the players choice to study, scout and prepare meaningless.

St. John Smythe |

I am still around, I just don't have much to contribute in this situation. I think moving things along might help some here. I'm not going anywhere, I have several SLOW games. I haven't quite figured out how to help when I have nothing to contribute to a situation. Really until a fight breaks out I don't think St. John will have much to do in town. If the town was empty then I think spending all this time investigating it would have been good. With the fort that should have probably been the priority. A quick look on this side, a quick scout on the other to make sure we are not walking into a trap and then march up and parlay. That's just my 2 cents though.

Cleonora Petalouda |

Yeah I want to apologize, but at the moment this is just moving too quickly for me to keep up and continue to help with my grandfather. I'm not leaving just till we get a better schedule I'm effectively botted by the GM.

GM Wolf |

Hey all, I am back from an invigorating weekend! I know this game is going strong! I hope to keep it going with at least 2 posts a day! I know we have been scouting and now have begun an interaction but please keep adding your characters actions! What is it doing, moving, speaking, thinking if nothing else, use spoilers for bluff/sense motive, stealth/perception.
Remember I want feedback from the players not just the characters of what you would like to do and then I can begin to develop something you might be interested with.

Quince Medvyed |

I think a lot would be happening if we had a better sense of location. I had a few questions in gameplay.
Quince isn't going to go into the fort alone with just one person. Not knowing how tightly packed they are or aren't he hasn't opted for a fireball and recommended throwing a ring of fire around them. I didn't want to assume things given how many variables there were.

St. John Smythe |

Is the spriggan leader acting in the surprise round? Assuming it was darkness he cast and we were in bright light the light level would be normal light, Darkness doesn't make it dark only lowers light level one step.

Quince Medvyed |

LOL
So I was close enough for them to hear a whisper?
You mentioned those Close to Quince. Does that include Quince?

GM Wolf |

Yes the spriggan leader is acting in surprise round.
Hear the details of a whispered conversation: DC 15 With +4 on the DC for distance. Yes they heard you, they rolled good and they also saw into the meaning of your words, at least those two of seven of them did.
Yes, Quince and those close to him get to act in surprise round.

Delilah le Fay |

I have moved Delilah, can there be a tiger added next to her?

Quince Medvyed |

Surprise Round!
[dice=low hits the spriggan with fireball 75% chance to hit it]1d100
[dice=low hits on spriggan edge, 50%]1d100Fireball goes off early and the back blast hits St. John and Jorne.
17 fire damage! Reflex Save DC ??? for 8 damage.
Sorry its DC is 16. I forgot that in my post.
Can I ask how this failed. I have low light vision. So Dim Light shouldn't be a problem for me. The gate was still open. So there was nothing in the way. Fireball does not require a to hit. At the time I cast it St. John was behind me. I see the ring has moved to the "went off early" location. But even if he had moved there he wasn't in the area I had indicated that I was choosing with the spell.
What parameters do casters need to take into account that I am missing? Because if I thought there was a risk to allies I would have done something different. I have no issues with Homebrew but I wasn't aware of this working differently than presented in the rules. If Fireball is unreliable I would regret wasting resources to get the wand and we have another character named after playing with fire.
Please don't think this is a complaint. I want to understand so that I can adjust for the future. I have 48 more charges after all.

Quince Medvyed |

[dice=Reflex Save]1d20+10 Standard wand should be DC 14 I believe but not sure if I make it.
I will check my math.
For a saving throw against a spell or spell-like effect from a magic item, the DC is 10 + the level of the spell or effect + the ability modifier of the minimum ability score needed to cast that level of spell.
Fireball is a 3rd level spell and requires a 16 to cast which puts it at a +3.
10 + 3rd Level + 3 = 16
I could be wrong. Until recently I haven't had to design items.

Quince Medvyed |

Looking at the Wall of Fire Wand the DC should be 17 not 18.

Delilah le Fay |

Fireball requires an ability score of 13 to cast. 10 + spell level is the minimum. Not a modifier equal to the spell level.

Quince Medvyed |

Okay. I think you are right. I was misreading one of the ability score charts.
Seriously thank you.

Quince Medvyed |

Sindari that makes the Wall of Fire Wand I gave you a DC 15.

GM Wolf |

It has been a long day, be glad I am posting.
To address the fireball, it will ignite/go boom when the bead hits something solid.
The large spriggan who opened the gate would still be in the gateway blocking a majority of the space that you would send the fireball through.
If you had sent the fireball above the gate, you would unlikely hit any spriggan. Or hitting the gate in which this is practically the case you hit a majority of those before you.
Then again let me go read fireball again.
---
If the wand of fireball was made by Sulvanii the save would be... a 21.
---
Yes wall of fire should be at least a DC 16.

Lykàn Delĩss |

wow Fireball just became a ranged attack.
and that DC for a wand is also wow. What's the damage of that wand?

Sindri Cindermage |

So my two cents on fireball:
Making it into a ranged attack kind of defeats the purpose of giving it a reflex save for half. Spells tend to have one or the other, putting both on it changes the spell substantially. However if it is now definitely a ranged attack roll, I can abuse the hell out of that because it means that it now qualifies even easier for some of the arcane trickster shenanigans that I was considering.
Also: Ranged attacks can crit, that's part of their balance. Does fireball now crit?
Also also: it is somewhat disheartening that even after a feat and a trait that my save on fireball is still less than the NPC. Although it does make sense as an actual being of fire. Kind of a: Why am I here moment though.

GM Wolf |

Only two Wardens were sent with your miscellaneous group that have actual reasons for being here. You know backstory.
That aside, Sulvanii actually can't leave the Greenwatch for more than an hour for... reasons. Sure all of the Wardens could have come, though with lacking two players it becomes a NPC team of 12. Though they can run the kingdom while Quince and Cleo find out what is happening with Varnhold. Did any of the Wardens truly need to come to Varnhold. No. They could have easily sent a representative with you, or just wait for your response to the situation, whatever it may be. I digress.
Wishes do make the world look different.
Honestly Quince, Cleo, and her bodyguard could likely take on most of the threats for half of the module with ease by themselves. But it's not about that. You each are coming to Varnhold for a reason. Another reason is to show your mettle to the Wardens. Eventually you might become a Warden and get the perks of that too!
----
For fireball you only use ranged attack to "send the bead through a narrow passage". Is it now a ranged attack: No!
This is going with RAW!

Quince Medvyed |

So in the future we will:
If you attempt to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, you must “hit” the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely.
That makes sense. The arrow slit verbiage is in the spell description. I was unaware that this space was that small. I would have acted different. But I see what happened. Thank you.
As for the Wand DC are we considering wands Quince wished for to be "made" by Sulvanii, if so then I have several wands that the DC would need to be raised in keeping with his stats. If we assume the minimum which I did (And then messed up the rules on) the DC for the Fireball is 14 and Wall of Fire should be 16.

GM Wolf |

Yes, to hit a square is AC 5. I just quickly guessed it would be AC 24. To put it in terms: You don't have a clear shot to the location you are throwing it AC +8, soft cover from enemies, +2. Then structures partially in the way +4. So the AC would be 19.
Then again I should still just see if you literally can hit that spot or not. I got into the mindset of ranged touch. You would have either hit the watch tower/wall or if aimed up over the wall you may not have hit any enemies. I digress, lots of factors and trouble with devices made it hard.
We will hopefully make it clearer in the future. I gave you the wolves!

GM Wolf |

Ok... I am back... wow I have been busy.
Ah Ha! What have I not been doing?! We went to Spokane, did a bunch of shopping. Then in the evenings I spent a lot of time with my son, just playing and having fun! Work side, I have been slacking on grades and trying to catch up with that. I have NCCE webinars and Whole Child Virtual Summit videos to watch. I got a hair cut today. Yesterday I survived through school but by then my stomach had gotten completely rotten, like a one day flu... It could have been the food I ate... food poisoning... at least it was mild. Still on the mend from that and preparing to teach a new section of Science which does take a lot more prep than normal. Yeah I haven't had much time to post in the last two days. I switched my day around so I am back in work to do prep and with a functioning computer to easily do posts.

GM Wolf |

I have to apologize again... there is just so much on my plate right now. I hope to get a post up tomorrow. We will see! I am swamped with grades, extra work, trainings, and more grades. I was able to see my uncle I haven't seen in 6 months... and that was really my free night. Time will tell. I know next week I should get more posts in with spring break.

Dinenen |

Seems like a lot of games have paused right now for one reason or another. Weird.
Low stress from my end.

Dinenen |

I am 3ish hours East of home, with my 27 year old daughter in a neurological ICU.
She is supposed to be in observation for 24~48 hours. Beennworking this issue since 0500 local this morning. I make no promises about posting on my phone through this.

Quince Medvyed |

Sorry to here that. Things here have been slow so I wouldn't worry about us. Praying for you and your fam.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Praying for your daughter and you. I hope all goes well for you both.
Don't worry about the game here. We're a little slow due to RL.

Dinenen |

Home for a "quick stop" tonight. Going back to get the daughter's car tomorrow, so, another 7 hours on the road for the round trip. <shrug>
Life should be almost normal for work on Monday, and after.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Everything well with your daughter I hope?

GM Wolf |

*He awakens from so much.*
At least that is how I feel. I am sorry and apologize for the three week absence. First off grade put a damper on everything. Next my spring break was the opposite of how I felt I would have time. It was nice being in the 90+ degree weather in Arizona with a pool nearby. I was occupied with family on the first two days as we celebrated Easter. Also these family members we haven't seen for years. The rest of the week was not as packed but I took time to just enjoy being with family. Lastly, we get back and sickness hits my wife hard and I have to step up that much more to take care of our son. We do get home but not when I was expecting and had to cram to get grades done. Then this week I got sick, likely from all the stress and late nights. I finally feel back to my normal today. Allergies are still present! Ahhhh!
I hope to get in a few posts today for all my games. Especially those still stuck in combat. I would appreciate a quick check in post to make sure all players are still around and ready to play. Included in that post you can add how you are liking the present mode of the game. I know some of the games have kinda been railroaded and if you want to get more back to the main plot of the game or whatnot I would like to know.
I hope this finds you all in good health and ready to get back to the games!
Dinenen, sorry to hear your daughter is in the hospital, prayers and best wishes for her and safe driving for you!

Quince Medvyed |

Good to see you up and about.

Dinenen |

Thank you. She is home, now, but seriously having trouble. She can't walk unassisted. I'm at home with her kids while she and her mom are picking up equipment to help cope with the new, hopefully temporary, limitations.
Life happens. Basically never how you expect or plan.

Lykàn Delĩss |

Here.
Glad to see that you're alright.
