Anyone interested in running or playing in a West End Games Star Wars game?
Mandalorian has me jonesing for a game in that universe.
Edit:
To expand: I think the idea of centering the game on a group of young Mandalorian foundlings whose just gotten their helmets and are doing bounties and other deeds in order to earn more pieces of Beskar armor/weapon systems for it in a secret culvert on some planet on the edge of the galaxy.
For this project, I will GM it if I need to, but my preference would be a shared GM game- we'll each take turns as GM with a group of say 5 characters (so that only 4 are present on each mission), and each telling a story in turn?
Just one idea.

I love Star Wars (a passion that spans for more decades I’d like to admit... let’s just say I was born around the New Hope) but I don’t know this system much... More used to the other ones, and honestly I like more the flavor of the space wizards than the mandalorians (as much as I like these last ones too). Maybe it could be simply a ragtag group with mixed backgrounds? Bounty hunters, smugglers, and maybe that idealistic Jedi in the midst? :)

Most of their source books are for either the original movies era or connected to books/comics in the old expanded universe- Jedi Academy Trilogy, Thrawn Trilogy, or Dark Empire for instance.
They had a singular book for Attack of the Clones which I guess makes Clone Wars era possible to run in.
Mandalorian Era is easy enough to do since the technology is all mostly the same-- Old Republic Era would be difficult because we wouldn't have any stats for the ships, ect that existed.
Why don't we do a quick internal poll- please respond with the following:
Preferred Era Old Republic, Rebellion, New Republic (early- i.e. right after Jedi), New Republic Late (i.e. Mandalorian); list top two
GM or Player Only If you're still willing to participate in trading off GM duties say so
Rough Character idea: Whatever you're thinking you want to play as loosely or well defined as you want to describe it
That'll give us a good idea of where to take the game.

Jedi is absolutely playable, but you start with very little in the way of force powers and have to gain a lot of experience to advance to being very good at them, so it's best to be a jedi character concept that accounts for that- you can't be a jedi master in hiding and really represent it for instance; but surviving youngling with minimal training for sure, or a force sensitive kid just discovering his powers, ect makes more sense with what you can legitimately start out being able to do.

Never played the system but love star wars and I've played some SW Sagas.
Era: New Republic Late, Rebellion
Player/GM:Player preferably, but I've GMmed stuff in the past, just not PbP or this system.
Character: Not a force user, maybe a droid if there are rules for that>

Most of the West End material is set during the Rebellion if I remember correctly. Do they provide information for running games during different eras?
Prequels, movies I, II, III: Roll a d6. 1-4 Fall in love, roll again. 5 Murder lots of innocents, roll again. 6 Die horribly.
Classic Series, movies IV, V, VI: Roll a d6. 1-6 Whine incessantly, but somehow win.
New Series, movies VII, VIII, IX: Roll a d6. As Classic Series, but you can be female, non-cis or non-Anglo.
Clone Wars: Roll a d6. 1-2 You have endless adventures on many planets, roll again. 3-4 Things get political, roll again. 5 You overcome many nemeses, roll again. 6 Strangely and without warning your adventure is over. Roll again until you roll a 7, then you win.
Rebels: Roll a d6. 1-6 You are awesome, hip, cool and righteous. If you have hair, it is stylish.
Mandalorian: Roll a d6. 1 You accidentally remove your helmet. Game over. 2: A band of mismatched anti-heroes and naif waifs join you, roll again. 3: Imperial troops surround you, but you defeat them on a roll of 1-6 on a d6. Roll again. 4: You somehow have never heard of Jedi or the Force and take 17 Continuity damage. Ignore this roll if you have rolled it before. Roll again. 5: A small cute creature steals the show. You win. 6: Your armor is upgraded and tech improved. Roll again applying a -1, +1, +2, +3 or +4 to the die roll until you get 5.
New Jedi Order: Roll a d6. On a roll of 1-6 your entire timeline is retconned. Game over.

Adding Stefano, I'm tracking 7 (assuming LandSwordBear just dropped in for the joke)
Oxnard
The Archlich
Branding Opportunity
KingHotTrash- waiting on check in
TheLobsterMaster- waiting on check in
Stefani
I'll say, officially my preferences are:
Era: Late New Republic (or early Rebellion)
GM: obviously
Character Idea: probably some kind of alien- Bothan, Defel, or Bilar for the sections that someone else GMs
To clarify- the plan with sharing GM duties would work where we'd collaborate a general thrust of the campaign, and then I'd do the first story arc, with others doing subsequent story arcs or kind of stand alone missions, and the GM would apply the same Character Points (experience) for his sections to a character he plays when others are GMing

The Lobster |

If we're doing the Disney canon or a mashup, then Preferred Era: Clone Wars, Pre-Rebels Empire (five to fifteen years after the fall of the Republic), Post-Sequels (New Republic Reconstruction). The rest are all fine, and although I like some less than others, those are my preferences.
GM/Player: Yes/Yes
I'm down for both playing and DMing, although I've only DM'd on the boards once before (in a Saga game) and it was interrupted by an unplanned hiatus brought on by my real life move being extra chaotic and exhausting.
Character idea depends on the era and the tone. Either a droid, Imperial defector, amnesiac Force Ghost that's taken tangible form and forgotten the ways of the Jedi, or a Clone Soldier (veteran or deserter). I prefer games with no or only one Force user, although I can enjoy games with many.

Seems like consensus is tilting towards Rebellion era, so I present the following campaign seed for your approval:
The tenth Empire Day has just passed, commemorating the Founding of the Galactic Empire, and the ceremonies on Hijantis were as rousing success. Officially, at least, that is. But all is not quiet in Sector 887, despite the assurances which the newly installed Moff Barris Tay'doon has been sending to his superiors , insisting he doesn't need any assistance to deal with the situation on Hijantis.
But after an explosion rocked the official celebrations in the Capital, killing a commander of the local Imperial Garrison, Moff Tay'doon issued an edict reminding the Imperial Citizens of Hijantis that their aristocracy had been disolved years ago, that the King, now an honored guest of the Moff aboard his flagship Rememberance, is merely another Galactic Citizen, and that there simply are no Princes, Dukes, Barons, or Counts in Hijantis.
Moff Tay'doon went further, destroying the only spaceport on Hijantis, and interdicting the orbit to ensure that no outside aid gets in, and no one gets out of Hijantis. Three months later, and the rebellion is simply simmering beneath the surface of the Hijantis streets, when you receive a mysterious message inviting a man, woman, creature, or droid of your own particular talents to a meeting in the Slepwig Salloon on the outskirts of the Capital . . .

Thedmstrikes |
Not sure if I made the cut there, Oxnard states a number one more than the listed folks...should I be the invisible final contender:
Preferred Era: makes no nevermind to me, the character I would play could fit any era.
GM or Player: Due to time constraints surrounding my job, I will not be able to put forth the effort necessary to create a decent story (should that change, I can pony up as an additional GM). I can however enter as a player and guarantee at least one post a day (so long as one is warranted)
Character Idea: Some kind of a techno merc who does what is necessary to survive, but would gravitate to a group trying to "make a difference."
I absolutely love the way this system runs.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

Hrmmm. . . sure enough, I did count one more than I listed both times- 7 total would give us 6 players and GM at all times which feels right, so right now I have the group tracking as:
Oxnard
The Archlich
Branding Opportunity
KingHotTrash- waiting on check in
TheLobsterMaster
Stefani
Spazmodeus
Thedmstrikes would be first alternate if one of those 7 drops.

I was leaning towards keeping as much as possible from both legends and canon, especially as far as planets, races, ect.
We will want to at most skirt the edges of the actual core canon storyline, but the seed I posted above puts is at 9!years before Yavin and in a random sector so it gives us a big play ground before we get to movie events.

The Archlich |

My character is a hiding refugee. He uses a set of metallic glasses (think Georgi LaForge) just for pretending; in truth, he's a Miraluka and a young refugee from a subsect of the Luka Sene that survived through Order 66 and had been hunt through the past decades. He believes to be the last survivor, and had been hiding as a pilot-for-hire. He believes in the light side and has some martial training, but still very much early stages. He doesn't dream to ever become a jedi, but this doesn't prevent him from praying and trying to make the galaxy a better place.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

I am not sure what the differences between 2E and the REUP are- I've seen that there is the new version; obviously in the 90s I was playing 2E.
I was also thinking about character creation in general and how we should handle it-- I don't tend to like the "modify this pregen" so I was leaning more towards suggesting a flat creation system--
Racial Attribute Dice - 12D or less races base
6D additional attribute dice
7D skill dice (as normal)
-- races with more than 12D in base attribute dice have to "pay" for them either from their 6D additional attribute dice, or by taking on flaws to make up for the difference
*some set amount of credits
Any thoughts?
Edit: Archlich- I'm not familiar with Miraluka, but I see they have no eyes? Are they otherwise just a near human race? (obviously a race this "new" to the canon doesn't have game stats) Do they "see" just without eyes?

The Archlich |

Miraluka are actually not that "new", although just more recently they appeared in the comics (they had existed in games and other media for decades, though - first appearance was in Tales of the Jedi in 1997) :) In terms of seeing, they (as a race) are force-sensitive and able to see through the force. They're pretty much humans without eyes, mechanically just the same thing (a d20 version here). Their home world was destroyed and Palpatine had tried to eliminate all of them, but you know how big the galaxy is, especially the outer rim. That's my "young Jedi padawan/rogue that escaped Order 66" character :)

KingHotTrash |

Alright, here is my post!
Era: Early Rebellion, Late New Republic
GM: This would be my first time with this system, so I'll be playing strictly.
Concept: I like playing your scoundrel/soldier types. A padawan who escaped Order 66 could also be fun too. Race-wise, I'll probably keep it really simple with either a Human, a Rodian, or a Trandoshan.

Bumping recruitment once for Lobster and Branding Opportunity to note that we moved to Discussion thread Here

Por Kandino |

Bumping this in case anyone else is interested in joining- the party is only at four and could use 1-2 more.
We are in the early rebellion era and they are currently trapped on the starting planet gathering recruits for their rebellion cell- party is a former Palawan, a droid, a brash pilot, and a force sensitive Duros.

A rock? Like a rock like alien? Or literally a rock?
I was joking, but I guess you haven't heard. Geode

Por Kandino wrote:A rock? Like a rock like alien? Or literally a rock?I was joking, but I guess you haven't heard. Geode
I HAD NOT heard. Absurd!
This would be why I’m paying no attention to this High Republic thing- seems the emphasis is on high.

Redac |

Yeah, some general background information about the current location and situation would be appreciated. From skimming the Discussion thread I notice it's 9 BBY specifically, so that helps place things for me. I'll also admit I'm not really familiar with this system, so I may require a little assistance in putting together a character properly.
I was thinking a mechanic/technician type character might be fun to play, maybe one who had a history running with pirates or other criminals. More oriented toward working with ships and computer systems and the like, but hopefully not totally useless in a fight. Probably non-human, too. Would something like that work?

Por Kandino |

Yes a mechanic type and a gambler type would both help to round out the party- would take us to 6 or 7 if one or both of you join, so I will close us to additional interest now and focus on reddac and laird getting characters together— ideally you could both join the party with our other new addition here on the next stop.
Reddac- I’ll dig out and repost the basic situation stuff, but the bare bones is that you are in a sector under the control of a particular Moff, and currently trapped on a planet where the one spaceport is closed and a blockade stops anyone from leaving the planet.
