Mightypion's Untitled Campaign

Game Master Mightypion

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Having a bit burned out on my previous attempt, I think I have learned some useful lessons.

Building rules would be:

--Characters are Gestalts, but with no added multiclassing (so, you pick 2 classes, and gestalt on them). No Mythic, a few late game enemies will be mythic, but for the most part they will be demi gestalts.

--Characters start at level 3, in ruined Kenabres, because the initial part is very linear and kind of boring narratively.

--There will be a bit of slapstick/shenangians/random promotion of little mooks to named adversaries/redemption bait because I am the GM

--Factions of the less "righteous" and more "morally pragmatic" persuasion will offer the occassional boon or legup, after all, the Worldwound expanding would be bad for the technic leagues business or Irrisens plans of being more powerful then its powers. Navigating a possible situation in which Hellknights, Paladins, Galtese Musketeers and an Ice witch detachment from Irrisen have to cooperate with each other against the demons is interesting, at least to me.

--quick explanation of "demi gestalt": I take f.e. a Succubus who in the AP has Swashbuckler 1.
She is a Demigestalt now, and counts, class feature wise, as a Swashbuckler 9( 8 hit dice +1 class level), taking whatever is stronger for her BAB, saves etc. and having the class features of a level 9 Swashbuckler.

Why?
--Gestalt is great for making people feel cool, but doesnt completely alter the DPR output because all martials have pounce with an extra attack, then a full attack and then possibly a vital strike extra attacks

--Likewise, Demi Gestalt enemies are powerful, unique, and have unusual skill set, but are unlikely to murder a PC 100 to zero in one round by rolling mildly above average.

--I plan to reuse a fair bit of content from my currently ending run, which actually went to level 6 mythic 1 so yay!

Liberty's Edge

I would be interested =)

Oh, here is the previous version for those interested in rough GMing style

Wrath of the morally pragmatic

Alright dot.

I've run this to book 5 already and am currently running it and in book 2. I've played up to book 2 and would love to try to finish it.

With gestalt I'd probably do wizard/cleric and get all the spells. Maybe maybe soracle.

I'd be interested. Bell was originally made for a non-mythic game and would make a good Paladin/Oracle.

Gestalt always has my attention. My ideas for this AP tend to involve mythic (naturally), but I’m sure I can figure something out. Or several somethings. How are you handling Prestige Classes, given the multiclassing ban? Are they simply banned, allowed, or could we precommit to, say, “I’m starting as a Draconic Sorcerer and fully intend to go Dragon Disciple as soon as I qualify”? Don’t want to make a plan that includes DD, Hellknight, etc if that path is going to be closed.

Dark Archive

Dotting because "enemy of my enemy" and "heroes and villains teaming up to face greater evils" are tropes I'm a sucker for.

Occultist/wizard or occultist/alchemist probably.

I would have no problem with hellknight/dragon disciple but mystic theurge is wonky in gestalts and I would prefer to not have those.

Also, your caster level can never exceed your class level.

Liberty's Edge

If PrC are allowed, a brawler on one side and a cleric into Brewkeeper on the other side could be fun

I’d be interested. I like the idea of dark transformation in a character and think that would be thematically appropriate for a WoW campaign and mechanically doable given gestalt rules. I also appreciate your clear communication about your gming style and willingness to create a more morally compromised (and compelling) world

Grand Lodge

How could I not be interested??
Likely as a Ranger-Rogue gestalt.

Actually more interested in non-mythic version of this AP as I never learned the mythic ruleset. Will submit some version of a Witch/Rogue or Alchemist Ratfolk from a (non-gestalt) WoW campaign that never actually launched.

I submitted a character in your other game with a cleric of Calistria when there was a need for a healer. I really loved your entire take on the campaign. Your new idea sounds equally interesting. I would be very interested.

I would be interested in this. Likely submitting my tiefling paladin who is my Wrath character. He normally takes eldritch heritage demon but may add sorcerer instead. The other option would probably be fighter.

I'd probably submit a Sorceror/Bloodrager. I love how some of the evil bloodlines can represent losing little bits of humanity in exchange for power

I'd be interested. For another example of Demigestalt, a satyr with one level in bard would be a 5th level demigestat?

Grand Lodge

Magus/Inquisitor of Calistra would be interesting. Not sure what race I would do? Maybe an Elf.

I'm interested. A Brawler/Alchemist (Beastmorph).

Drinks his mutagen, grows claws and fangs and goes howling into battle. :)

What would be the points for the build?

I think I'd actually go with skald/brawler (exemplar). Two types of bard songs, share rage powers and teamwork feats.

I wish there were a Hellknight archetype for Antipaladin. I want to consider playing one, and “Hell vs the Abyss” could be a fun angle here (with a Tyrant Antipaladin), but Smite Good is just such dead weight in a non-evil campaign. It’d be nice to have a “Smite Chaos” option like the Hellknight prestige class has.

Definitely interested in a non-mythic take on the campaign. And building a gestalt character is always fun.

Love me some gestalt and love me some non-mythic. That system never did it for me...

Scarab Sages

doting for all the interest. will contemplate ideas. something relative off the wall for sure

Demigestalt is for NPCs, not players, its a system for me to make enemies more interesting (especially by giving the bad guys options other then "I full attack and a party member dies"), if I would use it as a player, it would get insnanely unbalanced.

Dark Archive

I would be very interested in this.

Scarab Sages

I'd be interested for sure! Gestalt replacing mythic is a very attractive draw.

This sounds like a great campaign. I am definitely interested.

I am thinking of a gestalt Spiritualist (Priest of the Fallen)/Medium (Outer Channeler [Agathion]).

The spirits he channels as a Priest of the Fallen are the spirits of those who were killed by demons that came out of the Worldwound.

Not sure on which race he would be yet.

Some of the factions that may be present:

"Irriseni expeditionary corps"

Motivations:
--Yay, I am not in Irrisen anymore!
--The new Tzarina Anastasia wants to try these... muskets?
--Initially, the supposed target was Tar Baphon, but in a pinch we use ice magics and the effing undead are mostly immune to it
--I may or may not be an Ilvanna loyalist who has been send on a suicide mission against the worldwound
--Anastasias advisor looked really funny at those "ORCestra" guys and their strange fake accent.

"Prime material plane comedy reviewers"
Motivations:
--Did you know that Deskari has been judged the least humorous entity?
--The lantern king wants fun and we shall deliver!
--This is totally not because our boss wants to get into Desnas pants or something
--I am pretty sure she doesnt wear pants! See, we are a totally harmless and lovely people associated with a consortium of completely benign fae individuals! When did the Green Mother, the lantern King or Lord Ragadahn ever do anything wrong?

"ORCestra"
Motivations:
--The effing Pallys dont know how to properly krump them spikey gits, so uz is gonna show them
--Ardak Whitehair send us as an expeditionary force, to establish the hold of Belkzens credibility as a great power, while also making the softskins think we are easily controlled and manipulated.
--I dont get why I have to shout "Waaagh" randomly and speak with that weird accent, but some of the demons, whom I am supposed to call "dem spikey gits" get scared so I guess its working?
--Have I mentioned that I fluently speak 16 languages, includeing Necril, Aklo, Celestial and Infernal? Why do i have to pretend to be a brainless barbarian? Ah well, zog it, them spoikey gits need a proper krumpin.
--As to the name, proper Orcs like ole Whitehair are able to wield any weapon with "orc" in the name.
--At least I am not the git who has to domestize Orca whales for him. Orca bites can be nasty.

League of properly prepared businespersons
Motivations:
--The f#%#ing demon nitwits stole our Numerian rocket fuel
--And used it as booze
--Without paying us for it
--They will steal a lot more if allowed to spread!
--Meanwhile, if we pull a fast one over the bug and the goat, trade connections with the rich midnight isles could happen!
--We can test all of the propably weapons of mass destruction recovered from Numeria and gain major diplomatic cred for doing that!

Porting over from the other game GM /GM panic

But I will be making a new PC, I am thinking of an Kitisumia Investigator/Monk

Miss Milli Wavetail
All be making an ALT ASAP

And here she is

LN Kitisumia Investigator L3 /Monk L3

Miss Milli Wavetail

"Irriseni expeditionary corps"
--"Caption!, No need to fight him, I know his mistresses name and address and I bet his wealthy wife would just love to hear ALLL... about it. I'm a right there big feller?"
--"I have no idea what your talking about I found him like this, so I did"
--"What kind of day is it Sir? well Its my thinking sir if you please that it be lovely day to go out and meet someone, tell them thier an ass and then kick there behinds sir! if you please"
--'Ale, never touch the stuff, now give me some ten years old cask held Halfling whisky and I will be happy all night, so I shall"

Quarks:
She likes to drink and be drunk,
She has a really really bad temper
She hates fish, slimy things.
She has an intelligent Tattoo, that mirrors and animates her emotions. {often in very rude and descriptive graphic images}

She speaks with an Irish accent so she dose, and there is very little bag between her brain and her mouth.

I have an idea so far

Gun Chemist Alchemist/Rogue Peri Blooded Aasimar, Desnien

Fight fire with holy fire. And she plans to bring a lot of it to the table

Grand Lodge

I'm kicking around the idea of a Barbarian/Druid for my entry.
Sounds fun.

I've been thinking. I'm still undecided about what direction I want to go with the rogue half. Sapper/Sniper or just plain Un-Rogue

Scarab Sages

I'd be interested in either an arcanist/brawler or kineticist/barbarian. I'm leaning toward the latter.

I assume this means access to purchase/craft tech items?

Other possible factions:

"Totally not the Alyushinyrran tourism board"
--Effing Deskari is eating our customers
--And Baphomet imprisons them even if they have a visa!
--Also, were did the synthetic Litheria blossom shipment we bought from the Technic League go?
--We totally dont worship any demonlords no no no
--Have you heard of our newest ambitious marketing strategy called the redeemer queen?
--Dear Mr. Crusader, why are you preparing a pyre?
--I think we need to be more subtle about this

"Revolutionary ideals export beurou"
--We totally arent here because we lost to a Coup de Etat in Galt
--Freedom, Liberte, Egalite! And also getting paid, maybe
--Warcrimes may just happen, unless you choose to pay us more
--We will not as a matter of fact eat ze bugs
--Maybe the goats though
--Galtese cuisine can conquer even Schir-dishes!
--Its not cannibalism! They arent even humanoid!

Yes, both the Irrisenis and the Technic leagues have a degree of access to tech items.
Reign of winter happened, Alexandra Romanova rules Irrisen and tries to speedrun an industrial revolution in Irrisen, although she, while quite well educated, doesnt exactly know how to make precision machine tools, or why rifling works etc., and also tries to keep the fact that she is from a different plane somewhat hidden. She will, under absolutely no circumstances, personally visit the worldwound, waaaaayyy too many telepaths and teleporters.

The techniqs have higher level technology, but its salvaged rather then created and they often dont know how it works, or even what exactly it does.

While there is a bit of slapstick, none of the anti-worldwound factions including the "normal crusaders" are incompetent or inept, and there is a brutal war going on.

Also, some of the demons also have firearms, which, as for the Irrisenis, permeated from Earth.

Given the more comedic aspects, I'm considering a slightly goofy rogue/warpriest now.

What level of firearms availability?

Emerging.

The Irrisenis have Mosin Nagants, but not in the expeditionary forces lest they get yoinked by demons. Also, they cant currently produce and only barely repair them.

Makes the character still viable at least.

Most likely use a pistol. For the faster reload times.

NEW IMAGE OF HER

Fox form

95% done

Discretion
What can you say about a woman/kitsune who seems to have nothing but basic Monks robes.. At 6' her tanned and toned body is covered in one massive intelligent tattoo, that at one moment can be swimming over her skin as a fey dragon and the next giving you the bird, while showing an image of your kissing a troll. She carries no weapon, she has none, becouse, and I am sorry here, she likes to say when letting out a espacily loud fart "I am! the weapon". But she is good looking under all that, Long Flame red hair, Brown red eyes. She moves with some grace when not drunk. She has learn the nack of stopping her transformation form kitsune to human, so that she has Fox ears and a fox tail. She says its fun.

*Note: About her Tattoo, she has NO idea how she got it, she got drink one night with a group of wizards heading to the badlands for 'research' and woke up the next day minus her coin and with a full body living tattoo. Which she has somewhat of a complex relationship with the tattoo and it her. They often fall out.

Personality
Miss Milli Wavetail is a gal who likes a good time, if its fighting in a Inn brawl she is up for it. If its heading out for the unknown she is too. Coin just doesn't seem to stick around with her, often penny less she takes any job going. He skills are, well fox like, snooping around and finding things out. One thing she dose have a really bad temper. Anyone who knows her knows the warning signs when she is about to blow.
She became a monk to try and get it under control and to a point it has.
She will now tend to punch a tree then someones face.

I present the crunch and a bit of character idea for Helia (female for Helios)

she is from Osiria, follower of Desna. She has embraced the chaos of firearms and explosives. She is skilled at not only shooting people, but she can also blow things up real good. She has a bright disposition, much like her hair.

Apologies if this is a silly question, but are you looking for characters now? Should I be pulling something together or waiting for a new thread?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Start cooking your characters, that is more then enough interest!

Any race restrictions? Point buy? Variant rules ( background skills, Elephant in the room , VMC etc) ?

Thanks

Elephant in the room and background skill are on, 20 point buy, no VMCing. 2 Traits, drawbacks for moar traits, ill come up with some funny extra traits those chosen get on top.

gah, okay, i went with your linked campaign build rules, it said 25, but ill drop it down to 20 :)

Proper recruitment thread!
