There seem to be a lot of checks in this scenario that most of the party aren't trained in and/or can't pass the check. As this is my first real 2e session, is this pretty standard in 2e adventures? And does there tend to be less combat encounters as opposed to 1e? Wasn't sure if this is just kind of an introductory scenario for those new to 2e or if it was more typical of what follows...

The answer to that is both yes and no - there are some scenarios that are primarily dungeon slogs, but there are also a *lot* that are incredibly skill heavy, and not having the right skill(s) in the party is more likely to cost you treasure bundles.
That said, this was the 'first' scenario to be released, and I think was designed to highlight the non-combat resolution possibilities inherent to the system.
I mean, if you had wanted to, you could have forced things through with combat at a few points... but you would *really* have been punished for it (for example, you could have tried to deal with the Ritual by simply killing waves of shadow creatures, although the researchers would most likely have died in the process, and you could have tried to kill the creature on the boat, rather than rescuing it).

This is also a case where the majority of the party are heavily martial focused characters. This tends to lead to few, and similar, skills. Thus we have lots of moments of "whelp... that sucks"

Indeed. Oh, well. We live and we learn (though our characters may not). This is my first PF2 character, too. I've played a few quests with her, and they were fairly evenly split on the skills to combat ratio.

@ GM - Chronicle looks good. Thanks for running!
@ All - Thanks for a fun game. I look forward to sharing a table with each of you in the future!

Thanks for the game! I hope I get to sit at a table with you guys again, this was fun! The murder was interesting to roleplaying out for Trevadar too. Looking forward to playing him elsewhere!
