Guido "Guy" Falkes |
Figuring he is the one they must have seen, Guy starts up a song.
Inspire Courage +2
You said it was a surprise round, so move or standard.
If I could have done both, I would have moved to the center of the path even with Bask and Bocke.
GM Badblood |
Yep, just one action unless you have an item or ability that lets you do more!
Guy begins singing, causing the remaining lizard folk to drop the hunks of meat in their hands. The one lizard folk who was not surprised lets out a booming roar as he rushes towards the group, drawing a shield as he advances.

Bask prays to Sarenrae and conjures a magical field of protection around himself, then moves forward, scimitar raised, swiftly communing with nature to gain the hard skin of a scarab beetle. He speaks to them in common, not sure if they understand.
"We do not need to kill you, lay down your weapons and surrender and we can talk"
Cast Shield of Faith, move up, activate aspect of the scarab beetle
Sinaryn |
Sinaryn moves up as she channels arcane power into her pistol.
Move and Swift: Arcane Pool
Laafdahni Riverrun |
Too far away to do much yet, Laafdahni moves up behind Bask, certain that the lizardfolk will be way too close for comfort soon enough.
GM Badblood |
Bask, you only get a move or a standard action during a surprise round. Would you rather move into position or cast shield of faith?
Bocke fires an arrow at one of the lizard folk. It flies through the air, but when it strikes them it bursts into a cloud of sparkling white powder. The flat-footed warrior sneezes, then slumps over; fast asleep.

Continuing his song, Guy moves up near Bocke and imbues his arrow with arcane power before firing it at white. "You could ask Sinaryn to translate, but it is probably too late for peace offerings now Bask."

Sorry that was hilariously forgetful of me since you'd only just mentioned it. He'll move and swift and save the shield of faith for later
Bocke Reed |
Just so you know, magic arrows are generally not retrievable. The magic in them is always consumed whether they miss or hit.
Huh, I didn't know that. This is the first time I've ever used a magic arrow, thanks.
Jangafzaar Kargar |
Jang makes a step and starts casting a summoning spell.
GM Badblood |
Guy fires an arrow at the charging lizardfolk who has painted his scales with some kind of white paint. To his dismay, the arrow glances off the hard scales of the seven foot tall reptilian. As it charges, it readies a primitive weapon that consists of a wooden club covered in jagged shards of obsidian and pieces of born and swings this primitive morningstar at Bask's head. Bask gets ready to parry the blow, but decides against it at the last second when he realizes how strong this lizardfolk could be and instead tries to duck under the blow. Unfortunately he is not quick enough and the spiked club hits him hard enough to send his helmet flying into the brush.
Morningstar, Charge: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 = 24
Blunt/piercing: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
A massive warrior covered in black brands also lets out a fearsome roar and hustles forward at lightning speed. As it runs, it draws a stone tipped javelin and throws it Sinaryn. The hefty missile flies through the air and sinks into the gunslinger's shoulder with such force that she almost falls on her back. The color drains from her face but she is grateful that the javelin at least did strike her in the lungs.
Javelin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Piercing: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
The lizardfolk that Bocke struck seems to be fast asleep but another warrior wearing a necklace of yellow feathers is getting to its feet, eager to join the fight.

"@#*$(#@ #*$@" Sinaryn curses out loud as the javelin threatens to send her flying.
She may want to blast them but she can respect wanting a peaceful outcome, she channels a burst of light from her free hand towards the two lizardfolk.
"You will fall down after this if you want to live."
Color Spray DC 15.
Bask Rahid |
Bask staggers back with the force of the hit, but regains his footing, starting to shout

Laafdahni really, really wishes that Color Spray had a longer range so she could get the other two before they charge her friends and wreak havoc on them. She knows she has to get closer, but how close, really? They're bound to charge soon...
Knowing that she's putting her squishy little self too close to danger, she wades through the underbrush to stand beside the lizardfolk with black paint and prepares herself to cast a spell. Gods save my soon-to-be-impaled body!

The party delivers a flurry of arrows, rays and blades at the closest lizardfolk, which he manages to heroically block and dodge out of the way of. That is until Sinaryn fires a bullet straight through their head, instantly killing them in a gory fashion.
Amazingly, the last remaining lizard lets out furious roar as it suicidally charges the group, waving a stone morningstar above its head as it runs towards the closest foe, which happens to be Jang, the dwarf cleric. The blow strikes him in the shoulder, but his heavy armor takes the shock of the blow.

"Well! I was taking them down so you wouldn't have to kill 'em but with these blows they might not last till we get them tied up! HAH!"
A voice in the back of Laafdahni's mind gripes: Well, *I'm* certainly not killing any of them. Because I'm being completely useless. In a determinedly cheery voice, she says: "'Scuse me, Bask." Stepping in front of him, she releases a spray of colors at the remaining lizardfolk.
Color Spray DC 16 will save
Bocke Reed |
Bocke drops his longbow and runs up, drawing his quarterstaff. He will try to knock out the last one with nonlethal damage.

GM Badblood |
Will Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Laafdahni sprays the last remaining lizardfolk with a blast of colored light. The lizardfolk drops his weapon as the light blinds them.
Alright, we can officially end combat at this point! You can kill them or keep them alive, dealer's choice, but they don't have any information for the party.
The nest has four intact eggs in it. There are also two that have been smashed open. The eggs are quite large, weighing about five pounds each, with a thick, leathery shell. Nearby is the corpse of a massive reptile, which is almost forty feet long from head to tail. The creature's hide is filled with stone tipped javelins similar to the one that struck Sinaryn.
In the nest there is also the mangled body of a humanoid. Their backpack is still intact and inside is a 100 ft. of silk rope with a grapple hook attached. There is also a masterwork composite long bow and a quiver with 20 arrows and a potion that are laying on the ground nearby. Finally, one of the sticks and two of the feathers making up the nest radiate magical auras. The lizardfolk were armed with javelins and stone morningstars. Two of the morningstars are masterwork quality.
Sinaryn |
"I have a feeling they aren't going to cooperate after what we did to a few of them." Sinaryn says rather glumly, she instead starts looking over their gear.
She also waves a hand over her wounds speaking a Draconic incantation, when she finishes her blood begins to take on an unholy hue. It gurgles and lurches across her armor till it is back inside her body. A minute later her wounds are all fully healed.
Infernal Healing for 10 HP over a minute.
Can take 10 for 20 on Spellcraft or Alchemy.
"Got some nice stuff at least. Wand of Barkskin and Feather Tokens. Also used these Potions of Hide From Animals to sneak up on that poor creature." she says holding up their haul.
Bask Rahid |
"Sorry I got in your way Laafdahni. Those sparkle spells you and Sinaryn cast were very powerful, and non-lethal too." He nods approvingly, then checks on the eggs before seeing to his wounds.
"Perhaps we should split these up? Then there's less chance of a fall breaking them both. He wraps one in his bedroll and puts it in his pack"
He then uses his wand to heal up the nasty wound he took from the first charging Lizardfolk.
CLW: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 2, 5) + 3 = 18
25 charges remaining
"Do you mind if I take the barkskin wand? I could use it on all of us the next time we know about an upcoming fight"
Bocke Reed |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"I'd rather my skin not bark, in case we need to sneak up on something. Oh, that bark. Then, sure!"
Guido "Guy" Falkes |
Looking over the eggs, Guy says “Think I can fit these in my haversack. Do eggs need to breathe?”
Laafdahni Riverrun |
"Sorry I got in your way Laafdahni. Those sparkle spells you and Sinaryn cast were very powerful, and non-lethal too."
Laafdahni shrugs, as if he's commenting on the fact that the sky is blue. "We agreed to try not to kill them." She's about to go work on identifying the magical items, but Sinaryn clearly has it under control. Instead, she ties up the living lizarfolk, trussing them up like hogs with their hands tied to their ankles, but behind their backs, using the rope found in the nest. She cuts off the end so the group can take the rest with them.
(I figure 5 feet of rope per individual, since she'll do extra loops for extra caution. That leaves 80 feet of rope attached to the grappling hook.)
GM Badblood |
Technically bird and reptile eggs are porous enough to allow oxygen to enter and carbon dioxide to leave. So they do need air to survive. From a game perspective, though, I will allow you to keep them in a handy haversack. I will need to know who is carrying them and how many though.
Does the party want to do anything else?
Guido "Guy" Falkes |
Guy shifts some stuff around in his haversack and carefully places two of the eggs in each of the two sides pockets. He wraps one set in his bedroll to protect them.
He asks "Anyone have a blanket I can wrap the other two in to better protect them?"
Checked, only carrying ~24 lbs in the haversack. I assume it wouldn't be too difficult to shift things around so both side pockets are empty of everything except the eggs and packing material. Although it shouldn't be a problem, best not to take risks with them.
If no one offers a blanket or something, I guess he will have to place the other two without any padding.
I doubt this level of care is required, but best to be overly cautious.
Guido "Guy" Falkes |
Guy chuckles at Bocke's joke, but warns "Might want to avoid that particular joke when we get back. Some would likely find it in bad taste."
Sinaryn |
"I don't know...they could taste pretty good! Point taken though." Sinaryn laughs adding on the light-hearted joking, as she helps Guy adjust his supplies.
Jangafzaar Kargar |
Jang stabilizes any surviving foes.
For those that have passed away, he starts praying.
"I send a prayer to you Shelyn, may the loved ones of these poor souls find the strength to fill the gap that their departure has created!"
Bocke Reed |
For all his joking, Bocke dutifully helps with wrapping the eggs (he has two cold weather outfits left over from a different adventure), as well as stabilizing / tying up the surviving kobolds.
