Glaive high ground?, flanking, confirm?: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 23

Greta Gyllenhår |
Well, I'm going to go ahead and assume Junior has ended that threat.
"Wow, nicely done, Junior," Greta remarks as her hair stops glowing. She rests her hammer on the floor and does her deep breathing excercise to calm herself once more.
spending 2 rounds waiting out the fatigue from bloodrage
Tristan de Lion |
Tristan claps excitedly.
GM Losonti |
The traitor has scarcely turned away before Junior takes advantage of his lowered defenses and simply lops the mongrelman's head off. The room grows quiet, save for the party's hard breathing. As you all catch your breath, you're given the chance to take in the room's details that were lost in the melee.
Three copper bowls filled with glowing coals hang from the ceiling of this long, natural cavern. The braziers fill the chamber with warmth and soft orange light. In the center of the chamber stands a block of stone that serves as a table, lined with wooden chairs, though several lie overturned. An enormous bloodstain, maybe a week old, darkens the stone’s surface.
To the north is the door that one of the traitors tried appealing for help through. Another door is to the south.
Searching through the half dozen bodies left in your wake, you turn up the expected clubs and crossbows, along with a number of assorted gems, colorful shells, and coinage amounting to a total of 580 gp. Some of the mongrelmen also carried potions, which they didn't have the opportunity to quaff.
You can also attempt a Perception check at the same DC for each potion.
Caliban Tre'Athkar |
Keeping an eye on the northern door, Caliban assist his companions in looking through the coinage. Upon seeing the potions he'll attempt to identify them.
Potion 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Potion 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Potion 3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
In analyzing these elixirs, We have another potion of cure light wounds, a potion of unbreakable heart, and a potion of bear's endurance. If no one objects I would like to consume the cure potion right now, as I am still wounded from our fight at the barricade.
The elf winces as he says this, a reminder of the damage to his ribs from the mongrelman's club.
Fred Junior |
This is the perfect time for a channel positive energy since a number of us are a little injured.
Selann Juris |
Selann verifies that all of the downed mongrels are dead (not just negative but stable) before any of the healer types use channel energy. "A lot of us have minor wounds and could benefit from a touch of the divine, before we proceed.... Then maybe that door, since they seemed to think help was coming?"
Massielo Cirus |
Snce the combat was over, Massielo understood Caliban's words and agreeably burst with positive energy, keeping out the unconscious traitors.
Channel Positive Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4
He also comments to Selann "That is probably where help is, but the other door could have, maybe a prisoner? Maybe a sacrifice for this altar here?", meaning the stone table in the middle of the room.
Greta Gyllenhår |
”Thank you, Massielo,” Greta says with a smile as her wound starts to close itself up.
Tristan de Lion |
Tristan smiles. The Inquisitor then cast Light on a rock; before tossing into the opened door....
Benedic |
Benedic glares at the fallen enemies, and then at the door. "If whoever they were calling to is in range of their voices, there is likely a fight on the other side of that door. I believe now is when Iomedae would advise us to take advantage of her blessings, before we proceed." He casts divine favor before he follows Tristan and Tristan's rock.
GM Losonti |
Just to be clear, while the door you entered through is still open, the other two remain closed. You'd need to open one before throwing a rock in. :)
Fred Junior |
Gear is logged, you can have the potion anyway Caliban. I added it to the other two that you have, according to your loot tracker sheet.
Junior clutches Terendelev's scale and his cheeks (and everything else) grows short fuzzy orange hair. He puts on a bandana, ready for anything.
Selann Juris |
Thinking that this might be the leader of this place, Selann touches Telendev's scale and activates the power from it.
Anticipate Peril - The next initiative check made in the next 19 minutes is at +5
Once done he readies his crossbow.
Greta Gyllenhår |
"Oh, good idea, Selann," Greta whispers as she activates her scale as well.
moment of greatness- double morale bonus once within next 19 minutes
GM Losonti |
Thanks for the patience, everyone! As the election gets closer, my job just gets crazier and crazier.
As Tristan begins to pull the door open, something on the far side grabs hold of the door. There's a brief struggle, before you hear an annoyed voice say "Uziel, stop playing games. Let them open the door." Instantly, the force opposing Tristan releases and the door flies open, revealing the room beyond.
Your view is somewhat obstructed by the tiefling man filling the doorway, an imposing figure of jagged horns and cloven hooves. Behind him stands another tiefling, a furred tail thrashing back and forth. He rests against a stone pedestal, which holds the copper brazier that lights the room. In the west of the room, an enormous pile of of animal furs and thick quilts serve as a bed.
A dark-haired woman stands at the desk on the eastern side of the room, tucking a piece of parchment into her belt as she turns to face you. She gives Tristan an appraising look, a glaive held loosely to her side. "Well, just look at you. Iomedae's finest, come all this way just to see me?"
Tristan de Lion |
Tristan bows politely to the Lady.
Tristan de Lion, Inquisitor of the Inheritor. And, whom do I address?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
GM Losonti |
The woman laughs. "And so polite! You may call me Hosilla." She looks past Tristan to the meeting hall. "I see you've killed all my pets. I don't suppose that was an audition as part of a scheme to take their place?"
Massielo Cirus |
Massielo feels a lump in his throat as Hosilla talks so casually about the death and suffering that just happened. He holds his morningstar harder and says "Why are you doing this?"
Fred Junior |
Junior says with a doggy smile, "Ho-zilla? Huh. Well that couldn't have been a very fun childhood."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
GM Losonti |
Hosilla's genial smile twists into a snarl as she turns her attention to Massielo. "Why shouldn't I? Kenabres was rotting, a city full of dead men who fancied themselves heroes. All we did was wipe away the illusion."
Her attention is pulled in yet another direction by Junior's comment. "He's funny. Kill him last," she says, her smile returning.
Benedic: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Caliban: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Junior reroll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Greta: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Massielo: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Selann: 1d20 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 5 = 18
Tristan: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Gosku: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Uziel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Hosilla: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Fire damage: 1d10 ⇒ 1
Hosilla begins by unleashing not a flurry of attacks, but a string of threats so graphic and so vulgar as to defy description. But the words carry more than just promises of violence, and a weight of dread settles onto the hearts of the heroes.
Everyone except Massielo: You are shaken for 2 rounds, take 1 point of fire damage, and need to make a DC 15 Reflex save or burst into flame. Remember to include the shaken penalty in your save.

Reflex save DC 15: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
Surprisingly, Benedic does not catch fire, despite the blistering heat of her invective!
Selann Juris |
Prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
With the combat initiated by the enemy caster Selann can only release the shot at the enemy at the front. He gets the warning from his magical senses and targets the flat-footed enemy at the doorway.
1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 14
damage if that hits: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (1) = 3
Ouch! That -2 affects us before anybody gets a chance! I added the "sneak attack" damage to the shot, if it hits because if I understand right he is flat-footed until he acts. If that is wrong let me know and remove the extra damage. Of course if that's a miss, then it really doesn't matter.... Good thing it doesn't apply to damage as well!
And the Prescience roll was worse than the others so it does nothing!
Fred Junior |
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 2 = 9

I don't know why I was excluded from her dazzling display, but I'll take it.
Massielo is astounded by her nerve, so much so that he doesn't even see what happens next and luckily avoids its effects.
Fred Junior |
It was this spell and I'm not sure why Massielo was excluded either. I guess she could choose to exclude you.

It was this spell and I'm not sure why Massielo was excluded either. I guess she could choose to exclude you.
If that's the case, then my curse worked in my favor. The spell is language-dependent and I just don't understand Common while in combat. lol
Greta Gyllenhår |
Ref: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Greta’s string of bad luck continues as the poor girl’s clothing bursts into flames. And, of course, fire is the one resistance I don’t have at all...
GM Losonti |
Massielo has it right, once combat started he no longer understood Common, which meant the spell couldn't affect him. :)
If you failed your save, you will catch fire and immediately take an extra 1d6 ⇒ 3 points of fire damage. At the beginning of your turn, you make another DC 15 Reflex save, and if you make it you are able to put the fire out and don't take any extra damage. As part of this check, you can spend your turn rolling on the ground, trying to smother the flames, or something similar to get yourself a +4 bonus on the check. I will allow pretty much anything that makes sense, but it should take at least a standard action. The flames themselves are not magical, in case you have an ability, spell, or what have you where that matters.
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (5) = 8
Selann's crossbow bolt is well aimed, but is deflected at the last instant by an invisible barrier. The speed at which the wizard reacted still catches the tiefling off guard, and he takes a step back in surprise.
His comrade, quicker on the draw but blocked inside by Tristan's bulk, tries to stab the inquisitor with his short sword, but his arm catches on the doorframe and the blade skids harmlessly across Tristan's armor.

Caliban quickly dumps his waterskin over himself, attempting to douse the flames.

Failing that he drops the waterskin and contemplates dropping to the ground and rolling the fire out.
Tristan de Lion |
Tristan frowns a bit. The youth looks over his physique with an appraising eye.
Bulk? I guess I really need to start exercising!
The Inquisitor then looks back up at Hosilla.
And, here we were having a civilized conversation!

”Ah! So you want to war with words, have at thee!” Junior announces, with a small undercurrent of fear and uncertainty.
After absorbing Ho-zilla’s torrent of burning insults and blazing indictives Junior responds in kind, ”You have the face that only a sledgehammer can love, and HAS!” His insults have absolutely no effect on Ho-zilla and her companions, but rather serve to embolden Junior’s allies by distracting and softening the blow of the fiery words. Starting inspired rage, +2 morale to str and con, +1 morale will, -1 to AC, rage-like restrictions
If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward). Inspired rage does not allow an ally to activate abilities dependent on other rage class abilities, such as rage powers, blood casting, or bloodrager bloodlines; the ally must activate her own rage class ability in order to use these features.
GM Losonti |
How about that, two natural 20s and a nat 1 on this save. Caliban, you will take 1d6 ⇒ 4 points of fire damage, and 1d6 ⇒ 1 for Junior. Next is Greta!
Side note: you can help put someone else out as a standard action, which will give them another save with the same +4 bonus.
No blades find their way into Tristan's back as he retreats, leaving the doorway open.
Greta Gyllenhår |
I’m going to burn a hero point so I don’t spend this whole combat on fire...

Massielo tries to reduce the opposition and attacks the nearby traitor.

He is too slow to make anything worthwhile, however.

Pleased with her spell's effect, Hosilla steps forward with her glaive and considers her targets. Her gaze settles on Massielo and she nods, saying "You."

Selann Juris |
Selann sees the apparent leader of the enemy step forward and strike Massielo. He knows that his magic for the day is mostly spent and he is unlikely to hit with either his blase or a cantrip.... But he steps back and allows his pent up frustration power his magic.
"No! You!"
5' Step back. Using a Hero point to cast a spell. Targeting Ho-Zilla with A glob of spit. Effect is similar to a tanglefoot bag. Reflex Save 13 to not be stuck to the floor. The rest still applies. Duration: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 rounds
GM Losonti |
Selann's defiant shout gives Hosilla enough of a warning to avoid a direct hit from the magical glue, but it still makes her movements clumsy and awkward. More curses follow as she finds it has already hardened and can't be easily scraped off.
Next to her, Gosku bides his time and waits for the right moment, rather than trying to force through the doorway.

It looks like she didn’t have a cover penalty to attack Massielo, so I’m assuming I won’t have one to attack her either? If I’m wrong about that I’ll step back and attack the guard in front of her instead.
Fred Junior |
Junior is flaming, shaken: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 2 = 5
