Caliban, Tristan and Benedic:
You don't see anything from your current position, but you could have sworn you heard the sound of claws scrabbling on stone. The acoustics of the maze make it impossible to source, however.

Open this if you're named Caliban

Spoiler:
While the sounds you detect with your ears are muffled and indistinct, the voice you hear answering your question is clear as if it was your own thought: <You've crossed blades with followers of the Lord of the Labyrinth, my boy. Is a maze that surprising?>

With the light from Benedic's sword illuminating the passageway, the party slowly makes its way into the mysterious maze.

Benedic frowns. "We have many disadvantages, if such a monster we should encounter. I would prefer to avoid it if possible." He looks back at Greta with a serious expression. "Take heart, though, for it is likely that anything we come upon here will stand in our way, and then our only choice to proceed will be to slay it."

Benedic draws and activates his own scale of the fallen dragon. Radiance is now a good weapon for 19m.

Wrath of the Righteous | Iron Gods

As you creep forward through the maze, the scratchings quiet and soon you can only hear the sounds of your own breathing and boots sliding on the stone. About halfway through, as Benedic turns a corner, the light from Radiance shines upon a creature with a squat, bloated body, crouched in ambush. It screeches in anger as the light falls across its skin, and it rushes forward with snapping jaws!

Knowledge Planes DC 12:
This is a dretch. While they are one of the lowest form of demon, it is still a demon, with all of their usual resistances and strengths. If you beat this by 5 or more you'll learn some additional things about them.

Caliban:
Again, you hear the voice, urgent this time. <Look out, boy!>

At the same time, the muscles in your sword arm seize up, as a rush of arcane energy flows from the sword and into you, overwhelming your nerves. It hurts, and feels like it goes on forever...until it doesn't. When your eyes refocus, you see a creature barreling down on you from the tunnel you'd just been about to turn your back on.

Consider your black blade activated. :)

Caliban:
Dretches are stupid, lazy creatures, but they are cunning enough to make use of their innate ability to cast stinking cloud, which like all demons, they are immune to the effects of. They're also resistant to physical damage, though this can be overcome by weapons that have been blessed or are made of cold iron.

That hero point made the difference!

Selann:
Dretches can, once per day, cast the following spell-like abilities: cause fear and stinking cloud. They can also summon another dretch once per day, though the ability is unreliable. As demons, they're also immune to electricity and poison. You may also read the most recent Caliban spoiler, if you haven't already.

One did attack, he just didn't roll high enough to hit Caliban's AC of 21[/ooc]

Greta and Massielo both strike hard at Caliban's attacker, but through sheer dumb luck it manages to avoid their crushing blows.

Shying away from the bite of Benedic's blade, the wounded dretch retreats around the corner. He can see it brace its paws against the ground as a retching coughing noise starts to come from the creature. Almost immediately a horrid yellow cloud pours from its mouth, filling the maze with choking fumes.

Everyone in the yellow outlined area (which is to say, anyone not named Tristan) will need to make a DC 13 Fortitude save or be nauseated. Normally I'd have somebody Spellcraft this but knowing that this is stinking cloud is kind of important to having it function properly. Full description below but bear in mind it also obscures all sight beyond 5 feet, and things within 5 feet have concealment.

Stinking Cloud:
Stinking cloud creates a bank of fog like that created by fog cloud, except that the vapors are nauseating. Living creatures in the cloud become nauseated. This condition lasts as long as the creature is in the cloud and for 1d4+1 rounds after it leaves. (Roll separately for each nauseated character.) Any creature that succeeds on its save but remains in the cloud must continue to save each round on your turn. This is a poison effect.

Massielo does his best at moving away and steps out of the cloud.

Wrath of the Righteous | Iron Gods

Leaving this out of the screen because lol
Dretch Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 1

The dretch, caught completely off guard by Selann's spell, finds himself glued to the floor, unable to move.

Tristan, as a heads up: because your longsword is cold iron, you're already bypassing its DR, so the Smiting judgment doesn't have any additional effect. Just in case you might want to use a different one. Now that I think about it, you also have a wall between you and Green, so you wouldn't be able to use that ability or attack it from where you are.

Massielo, roll a 1d4+1 for me so we can see how long you're nauseated for.

Didn't notice a wall. Oops! I will retcon if allow? Also, Tristan actually barely made the Knowledge check; so he is guessing.

Tristan sighs. The Inquisitor doesn't fail to notice some half of his group; coughing and choking coming out of the green cloud.
Not certain we can fight them inside that. Any of you spellcasters do anything about it?

He winks.

He casts Guidance on himself, swiftly pronounces Judgment; before entering the fray with Green!

Fort, Guidance, purity: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 13

Judgment:
Purity: The inquisitor is protected from the vile taint of her foes, gaining a +1 sacred bonus on all saving throws. This bonus increases by +1 for every five inquisitor levels she possesses. At 10th level, the bonus is doubled against curses, diseases, and poisons.

Benedic's sword swing is thrown off by the swirling fog, and the demon is able to avoid the blow. Meanwhile, Tristan braves the same foul cloud, but is miraculously unaffected by the vapors. He can just barely make out the outline of one of the demons, frantically tearing at the magical adhesive gluing it in place.

Round 2:

Caliban

Red -5 HP

Greta and Massielo are up! Greta, I still need a fortitude save from you.

Sorry, I was just waiting for my turn to roll it since it wouldn’t make a difference until then.

Fort(rage): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Greta raises her hammer and swings again at the nearby demon (green).
longhammer (rage): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
for (good): 2d6 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 9 + (2) = 22

I think with him outside the cloud there’s no miss chance, but if there is because of my reach then I’ll step forward and punch with my cold iron spiked gauntlet instead. That would only do...
damage (good): 1d4 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + (1) = 9

Wrath of the Righteous | Iron Gods

There is a miss chance, yeah, because there's still fog between you and him, even if he's not in it. He'll definitely still feel that punch, though.

Red claw 2 vs Benedic: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 89

Greta's gauntleted fist, charged with divine power, crunches bone as it connects with the demon's jaw and sends it reeling backwards. Elsewhere in the poisonous cloud, Benedic's foe flails at him with its claws, but they find no purchase against his magically augmented defenses. It retreats deeper into the cloud and he loses sight of it.
