Generally, yes, you need to rest to level up. There may be a few exceptions depending on circumstances, but I will let you know if that's the case. If you want to press forward anyway, you can certainly return to Neathholm to rest up.

For HP, take the average of your hit die, rounded up. So a d6 is 4+Con, d8 is 5+Con, etc.

And yeah, that weapon is a doozy. I spent some time thinking about what exact weapon it ought to be, but decided to go with something that could be used by anyone in the party (and that hopefully wouldn't get sold to the first merchant who could afford it!).


Assuming Milorn keeps his gear the major items to sell are the 2 masterwork chainmails and the scroll of cause fear. If you want to claim those items do so now.

Level up complete. Unfortunately, level 2 is very uneventful for me. Gained Detect Undead as a bonus spell. Which I don't feel is very exciting. Anyway, level 3 is cooler.

@party: Do you think I should invest 1 point into Survival? It's class skill from my mystery, but I don't see me using it that much in this campaign. Also, I have 0 wisdom.

Likewise Benedic doesn't get much on level ups. Clerics get even less than oracles, though we get a faster spell progression to make up for it slightly. An additional spell at each spell level, increased BAB, and saves is basically it for me. :)


Someone should probably invest in survival. Its situational, but there is a decent chance that our lives will be much easier at some point if someone has invested in it. I would do it but my skill points are stretched very thin as it is.

What skills do we need?


The thing that jumps out at me is disable device.

The other non-background skills that no one is particularly good at are:
Bluff
Climb
Disguise
Escape Artist
Fly (but no one can fly yet)
Ride
Swim

Missing background skills:
Appraise
Geopraphy
History
Sleight of hand

We are somewhat overrepresented with diplomacy and everyone but me can planes; and even I can try. So if you want I can switch my versatile performance to sing to cover bluff instead of diplomacy.

A lot of what we are missing can be covered or stop gaped with magic. Especially after I hit 5th level.

Bluff seems more Junior’s style than Diplomacy, I’d say. But it’s always worthwhile having lots of people able to make Diplomacy checks.

Inquiring minds like mine would also love to know. I'm sure we can press on and get one more encounter out of the free Bless, but I think it might be useful for Selann and I to spend the night, copy some spells (if possible) and prep what we've learned.

I think we'll be alright. Sometimes having to get creative with what could have been a simple challenge because we're missing a skill can be fun. Plus, for something like climb, we already have a levitation scale, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Unfortunately, Neathholm does not have a scroll of remove blindness/deafness, but because Aravashnial's eyes have been destroyed, not just injured, the spell wouldn't be enough to help him.

I plan to put up a post later tonight to get y'all moving again.

I remembered! We should also remember that 3 is the cap, so those of us who haven't spent any yet should be less stingy and spend 1 before 3rd or else we'll miss out on gaining a free new one.

Perform skills are background skills though, so as a bard/skald he’s probably using them for that and would rather give up an adventuring skill point?

Absolutely. I'm already using adventuring skill points to give me more ranks in background skills, whats one more? I have three different perform skills and craft weapons as my background skills. While the perform isn't really needed or useful right now, it will be later. I'll take craft until my RP goal of reforging energetic inferno is complete.

Selann made me jealous, BTW. Color Spray is my favorite low level spell. I managed some great hits in a Rise of the Runelords game for which I made a sorceress that I really enjoyed. Then that game fizzled early and I was left with a sorceress with a crazy good spell, but no one to cast it on :(
