Mylow Metcalf |
Teja, the Ogre is in the Meeting Hall not the Library. Do you still want to go that route? If the group goes straight north, you will join up with them at the intersection of the Library.
Which way was the Ogre facing when Mylow saw him?
Mylow heads out to the left and circles around the tunnel. He hugs the wall where it looks like there is an outcropping and waits with Rapier in hand. If it's not an outcropping then he waits 10' back at the corner.

Teja Khellekdottir |
D'oh, I'll take the same route as Mylow
Zonk the Sunsaved |
Since I'm going to be out almost all day, and no guarantee that I'll be able to post again till tomorrow... My plan is to wait a good while, then as we start to move, cast Light on a slingstone and carry that in. Once we're in, I'll start up the Bless cycle to 5', and I'll sling the light rock at the Ogre, to give those of us who need it, backlight. I'm assuming that Arlo will also want to Light up, as I think most of us have lowlight or better. Rolling it now, please slot it in the appropriate window - After any attempt to talk to the Ogre.
Light Loaded Sling: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26

GM Watery Soup |
The ogre is looking down at his food, so it doesn't matter which direction you approach from.
Mylow Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Teja Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
As Mylow and Teja approach, some gravel crunches, and the ogre looks up. Four shrews, loitering around the dropped boar meat, also look up.
Moving everyone a few steps back from their intended positions.

I've entered precautionary quarantine, so am abruptly home, fingers crossed. As I have no line of sight, I'm going to Delay. My intent to drop back into initiative order immediately after the first thing comes into sight OR Blue Shrew, which ever comes first. THEN, the pre-set above actions of Bless and Sling/Light rock to give my allies something to see with. OR, if no one comes in sight, I'll bless, then move along the Red Line.
Arlo of the Solemn Towers |
Still not Arlo's turn, but his hope would be to hit as many targets as he can with color spray. Not sure if that will end up being a possibility. He does have a plan b if needed.
Arlo whispers, "what's up there? And what's that extraordinarily WONDERFUL odor?"
Good luck Zonk. Had this happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Luckily our tests were negative, and the positive person we were exposed to (daughter's boyfriend) was able to shrug it off after a few days of light fever with just a bit of a cough.
GM Watery Soup |
@Zonk: Best wishes, and take care.
The ogre starts scanning the cave.
Ogre Seek, 30' SW: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 -
Ogre Seek, 30' SE: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 -
Ogre Seek, 40' SW: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 +
The ogre looks right at Mylow and Teja, and is about to yell something, but runs out of actions.
Seeing the ogre perk up, the shrews also start looking around.

Since it seems like we have been spotted, Mylow rushes out (stride) from his hiding spot and attacks (2 strikes) the green shrew.
And since it did not see him, he should be able to get a sneak attack off, correct?. My third mod and first time using sneak attack. :)
Rapier Strike #1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Rapier Dmg (P): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Rapier Dmg (P): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Arlo of the Solemn Towers |
Arlo slinks forward and casts Electric Arc on the nearest shrew (blue). The electricity arcs to the one Mylow just attacked.
This will damage both shrews.
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
DC 18 Reflex for half.
Stride + 2 action casting
Bariel Salvus |
And I screwed the map up again. I'm done trying to interact with that thing. Could you please just move me next to the blue rat?
Bariel runs up to the closest rat and stabs at it with his trident.

Zoosh Glábaglá |
Unsheathing his greatsword, Zoosh charges up toward the ogre. He doesn’t close with it, but he lets out a staccato growl, overwhelming it with his ferocity.
”R-R-R-R-AAHHHHHH!”, he roars. ”I chop you down like a tree! Say goodbye to your feet!”
Stride, Stride, Demoralize

GM Watery Soup |
I'm done trying to interact with that thing. Could you please just move me next to the blue rat?
Sure, but you'll need to be descriptive. You can use cardinal directions - 5 north, 1 west, etc - or relative directions - 1 square SE of the blue rat.
I will be in charge of moving Bariel so he doesn't get double moved.
GM Watery Soup |
Zonk casts bless. The verbal component alerts everyone to the Pathfinders' presence.
It doesn't matter for one shrew, though, as Mylow runs up and skewers him with a single strike. Mylow, you have one action remaining.
Arlo, the Green shrew is dead, and even the Blue shrew is out of range (30') for Electric Arc.
Zoosh, I assume you are attempting to Demoralize the ogre and not the shrews.
Zoosh yells at the ogre, and causes it to drop the bone it was gnawing on. The smell of warm urine fills the air as the ogre is Frightened 1.
Bariel runs up and skewers the Blue shrew.
Teja runs up. As Green is dead, you can revise your action.

Since Mylow killed the green shrew he would have moved around the Ogre to provide a flank for Teja when she moved up. She should have been able to Stride twice from where she was to get to him and Strike once.
Teja Khellekdottir |
And Teja does indeed move up, to also provide a flank for Mylow!
Mylow Metcalf |
Teja, I believe you should still have a Strike Action if you want to take it. You only did a Stride Action X2 for 45 ft. The green shrew would have been dead before your initiative where you moved.
Teja Khellekdottir |
In that case
Teja sinks her rapier into the nasty ogre!

Let's make Arlo's re-do an easy one. He'll cast magic missile at the ogre. So, stride, two action casting.
magic missile damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5
Hopefully he can cast a more creative spell next round.
Teja Khellekdottir |
Good question. I thought it had been downgraded - probably because of the deadly trait added, but looking, that does not appear to be the case. Speaking of which, better roll a deadly dice, just in case.
extra Deadly damage if 25 was a crit, added after doubling the 7: 1d8 ⇒ 8
GM Watery Soup |
Good call, Teja. I'm going to call your rapier a 6 since you rolled max on the d4.
Teja sends a rapier point straight into the ogre's belly button, causing him immense pain.
Arlo sends two flying bolts of force.
---
The ogre picks up its battleaxe and retaliates at Teja!
Battleaxe, Frightened 1: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 11 - 1 = 13
Slashing: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

The Red shrew runs up and bites Teja. It's not intelligent enough to move all the way through to flank, so it will just attack at its first opportunity.

Piercing: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 plus DC 14 Fortitude save
Jaws: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 5 = 20

Arlo sees that he can just get into position to cast color spray on the ogre.
Using a diagonal pattern, I should be able to position it to pop the lower right corner of the ogre, but just miss Teja and Mylow. This will be a DC 18 save, linking the spell HERE
A pattern of shimmering light erupts from Arlo's outstretched hands, sending the ogre on a strange color-induced trip that he should find quite distracting.
Well, hopefully.

Revising Zonk's action to hit one of the shrews.
Zonk hits the orange shrew.

I'm going to stay in initiative. If Mylow weren't poisoned, I'd just have the Red shrew scurry away. But the poison is fairly deadly. Mylow, at the end of your turn, you'll take 1d4 poison damage, and need to make a DC 14 Fortitude check to reduce the Stage of your poison (or else it goes up to Stage 2).
Bariel Salvus |

Mylow will pull out a minor Healing Potion (Interact) and quaffs it (Interact).
Yeah, I had another 1st lvl character die from poison through failing each of the 4 stages in an AP. Mylow does not get poisoned twice or the crit fail on the second doesn't count? Just checking.
Poison is definitely deadly!
Bariel, thanks for the Champion's Reaction!
Potion of Minor Healing: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Fort Save DC:14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
GM Watery Soup |
Zoosh swallows the shrew. It tastes like chicken.
End of combat, although we're still in initiative. I'll just track Mylow's HP because he's the only one in danger. @Mylow: Only bleed stacks - no other persistent damage does. I think if the poison had a Stage 2, you could get bumped a Stage, but this one doesn't. :)
Mylow: -0 hp after healing
Poison Stage 1, 1/4: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Failed save, poison persists.
Mylow: 13 hp, poisoned Stage 1
I just realized that with that healing potion and the non-max damage roll, the poison can no longer kill you. The poison only lasts 4 rounds max. :) So I'll just make your rolls, even if you fall all the Fort saves it's "only" 3d4 more (12 max).
Poison Stage 1, 2/4: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Fortitude DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Bah, you made it the next round anyway. End of initiative!
Mylow Metcalf |
Mylow plops down on his rear where he is located. "Ugh, I don't feel too well."
That was a very mild poison! The other poison I had encountered staged up in dice. Stage 1: 1d6, Stage 2: 2d6, Stage 3: 3d6. Kept failing saves & DM rolled close to max each time.
GM Watery Soup |
With the ogre defeated, the orcs return to their cave and swear on their ancestors that they will not attack caravans passing through. As a matter of fact, having seen what the Pathfinders can do, they contemplate the possibility that they'll join the Pathfinder Society and fight for the greater good rather than selfish reasons. While cleaning their cave, the orcs find a bunch of Treasure that they give to the Pathfinders.
The remainder of the trip to Molthune, and its capital Canorate, is uneventful. The nobles that the Pathfinder rescued find them in Canorate a few days after their arrival. The nobles are extremely grateful for the help the Pathfinders gave them, and they realized that without their help, they might have died on the mountain. They reward the PCs with an animal staff.
The Pathfinders' route, with all of the hazards cleared, is by far the best route, and the Pathfinders and the Society as a whole are recognized with the trailblazers' bounty.
End of scenario, although you're free to ask any remaining questions you have and to roleplay a finale for the team.
