@Team: So, I'm thinking. Are the salamanders really necessary? I mean, they stay out of everyone's way and from what I understand the folk here are slaves that were thrown in because the gnolls didn't want to deal with them. So isn't it just a matter of liberating them and coming back home?

Haleen __ |

@Atih and Yasmeena
You are outright hilarious. Starting to casually exchange knowledge and stories while standing in the midst of a poisonous and easily ignited gas.
It was just missing, that Aith lights herself a cigarette or something and we all end up like Wiley Coyote.

Aithaloessa Cyana |

In our defense, sulfur is easy to smell even at very low concentrations, and I'm not sure how easy it is to overload one's nose.
I don't know, how bad can lobbing a match in from a safe(ish) distance get? Surely it's not a 40' blast radius? :) :O
(Someone may want to tackle the lunatic mage.)

![]() |

Let’s go with that, and take the left-hand passage, unless someone more sensible decides it would actually be a good idea to offer something. Unless, of course, it’s obvious that it’s a bloody/meaty sacrifice, I guess.
Well, what are the chances we screw it up? I'd say pretty high. That's why I suggested we move on.

Aithaloessa Cyana |

But, but SCIENCE! Our GM said so!
Looting first, explosions later. Priorities!
Besides that, go for empirical evaluation!
;)

Foxy Quickpaw |

@Tariq
Easy enough. You handed Rocky a flint and stone and found out it liked it. And you know that you need something of bigger value. Make a conclusion, use all that ooc knowledge and get the situation over with. No one wants to fight Rocky and as that is clarified, there is no need to stretch it out.
Or wait for Yasmeena, as she'd bluff her way through all the rolls :P

Foxy Quickpaw |

@Aith & Tariq
Well, a roll of 35 and the ooc spell foo entitles you to telling Tariq how to properly pray to his deity to ask for the not so common magic. XD
But even though I'm laughing my ass of at the movie running in my mind tight now, I'll leave it to Tariq, if he is versed in this, or if he wants a lecture from the elf.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

I have to point out, though, that there's a line in the spell warning about the 20% chance of sending the creature to a different plane. Which we hope won't be the Plane of Elemental Water.

![]() |

Yeah, this was a little ridiculous. But also funny.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Too late to delete the post. You can always act as if I never wrote it, or I could try the old and well-tested "sorry, wrong chat".
But yeah. 1 every 5.

Aithaloessa Cyana |

No you didn't have to. You could have let those poor salamanders get their happy ending. SMH.
Now statistically a lot of them will die horrible deaths who knows where. Also I have to find a list of planes to roll for, to see where they end up dying horribly.
It occurs to me to wonder just how common planar adventures actually are? Those sound like bad odds for PCs too, depending on how many outsiders have access to cleric spells. Not, mind, that demons and devils might not favour the direct approach of getting rid of uninvited guests, but that sounds like a lot of stranded adventurers. (Or maybe, Aith, literally gazing into the Abyss really is that freaking bad an idea.)
And then even plane shift has an error factor of 5d%, which sounds like a recipe for disaster if one’s in a rush / trying to get someplace interesting/powerful.
But on the other hand, unlike dismissal, homeward bound’s Saving Throw line reads: Will negates (harmless), so maybe it’s the merciful option? Unless that’s a printing error.
I may be enjoying this way too much. :)
There’s a handy table for the amusingly named anywhere but here. I shudder to think how bad things have to get before one would consider casting that.
OK, I’m definitely enjoying this too much. XD

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Honestly, if I were a salamander right now, and after having spent several centuries waiting, I think I would pick the 'wait one more decade' option over the '1 in 5 can fizzle into the Abyss' one.
But it's not my decision.

Yasmeena |

(As a scrawny, and currently sweaty, poisoned elf, what’s she going to do? be pale and wan in their general direction?)
I have to say, I really love Aithaloessa’s parentheticals.

Aithaloessa Cyana |

Aw, thanks.
I do like how princess-y elves can be, but I try not to make them all the same princess? So someone like Aith, who grew up far away from elven lands, can sometimes get her Galadriel on, and sometimes ... not. :)

![]() |

And here I was thinking we'd found a civilized people. I should have known with those snaky snakes.

![]() |

Also, courtesy of my kid brother’s terrible taste in movies: “We’ve got to get these [redacted] snakes off this [redacted] plane!”
This would be even funnier if this was a planescape-like game.

Foxy Quickpaw |

@Aithaloessa
I think a retcon is due:
"Nex is probably long gone, wherever it is, right? ...
Nex is the country south of Katapesh, like Almah stated, which would be a shame for a traveled elf not to know. BUT as between Nex and Geb lie the MANA WASTES which were created in the war between Nex and Geb...
As our resident elf has stated again and again of the experiences she's made and her duties there - this is an inexcusable faux pas that has to be eliminated. :P
Aithaloessa Cyana |

I seem to have been way too glib. Posted a clarification as to what Aith was getting at: I thought one of the big things in that war was that Nex just disappeared, and no one's quite had the nerve to pronounce him dead just yet? So of course he's gone, but she's hoping that it's further away than a realm already associated with him, even if the world only knows its name by this point.
Probably too paranoid to worry that he is actually still around and involved here, and that we've just stumbled onto a clue as to where he's been hiding, but then, who'd have thunk that an ancient genie war would cause trouble again either?

Aithaloessa Cyana |

Oh, that makes sense. "Sorry, my prounoun reference was poor," as the lady professor said to the casino girl. (Wow, that's the first time I've managed to work a quotation of Desert of the Heart into general conversation. :) )
Yes, that "it" was meant to be Kakishon - the idea being that no matter what that place is, Nex is not likely to have holed up there.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Foxy Quickpaw |

Nex was/is a mage who reached a power level that rivaled the gods. Was also ruler of the country Nex. And like all the great guys from the past that were so much better than anything achievable now, he is mysteriously gone.
Wouldn't be surprised if he came back, once the rune lord returns have become old. XD

![]() |

Ancient god-like villains are nothing short of predictable.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Who's Nex?
I guess if you're not a wrestling follower you might have a hard time getting the analogy - and the joke :p

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

I think that's all.

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Interested in:
Periapt of Wisdom +4
+1 Scimitar of the long name
Stuff that grants +2 to Heal

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

It wouldn't improve my AC. While it has the advantage of less ACP and a higher Dex bonus, my actual armor has no magic enhancement yet and thus there's still a lot of room for improvement, whereas my Dex is not high enough to capitalize from Mithral.

![]() |

During the trip I took the one of those composite bows amulet of health and headband of int. I also want the +1 breastplate since Tariq is getting the +3 chainmail.
I think we should keep the heals and tongues definitely.

![]() |

Ok!!! I just got +4 to my AC. That doesn't happen everyday. It's still low, but... I'm not unhappy.

Haleen __ |

That's what you call shooting yourself in the foot. I have that great thing called armor training, which reduces the ACP of the mitral chain mail to 0 and also would lift the max dex where I won't be anytime soon.
But anyway, putting it on Antarah is a good thing, as he went down far too often.
Sadly there are no dex improvement items in the stash, so I will bother our resident elf to make some. ;)

Tariq Ibn Ziyad |

Alright, I'm removing everything we're gonna keep and assuming Almah or anyone pays 50% for the wares we wanna get rid of:
5x potion of cure light wounds - We shouldn't sell this
2x +1 studded leather armor - 1175 gp
2x Masterwork scimitar - 315 gp
2x Masterwork composite longbow (+4 Str) with 20 arrows - 800 gp
Ring of minor cold resistance - 6000 gp
Holy symbol (Rovagug)
Wand of cure light wounds (9 charges) - We shouldn't sell this
Splint mail - 100 gp
Masterwork greataxe - 160
+1 breastplate - 675 gp
Goreshred (Medium +1 human bane greataxe) - 4160 gp
Amulet of health +2 - We shouldn't sell this
2x Ring of protection +1 - 2000 gp
+1 vicious whip - 4150 gp
Greataxe of life stealing - 12860 gp
+1 chain shirt - 1125 gp
4 daggers - 4 gp
Hat of disguise - We shouldn't sell this
+2 leather armor - 2080 gp
Masterwork dagger - 76 gp
Masterwork surgical tools - 35 gp
Alchemist's kit - 20 gp
Ring of protection - 1000 gp (if it's +1)
Six injection spears - We shouldn't sell this
Nine potions of calm emotions - We shouldn't sell this
Collection of anatomy scrolls - 250 gp
Formula book - Depends on which formulas, I guess
Potion of remove disease - We shouldn't sell this
Potion of neutralize poison - We shouldn't sell this
Potion of tongues - We shouldn't sell this
Hand of the (monkey) mage - 450 gp
Bead of force - 1500 gp
Golden helmet - 450 gp
That adds up to 39,385 gp, or 7,877 each.
Of course, Tariq has picked several items, so we can always adjust his share.

Foxy Quickpaw |

Tariq:
8000 Periapt
9000 Scimitar
Antarah:
8500 Chainmail
2000 Headband
39385
+17000
+10500
Sum Roughly:
67000
Divided by 5
13400
Looks like there isn't enough room for adjustment here. ;)
If everyone else throws in a 1000gp for Tariq for the great accounting work though...
But whatever means of distribution you choose.
