Hi. Only wanted to say Tariq's stats are added to the alias (though there's a trait I still haven't chosen, I'm so undecided on that), and wanted to inquiry if your constant allusion to him as a 'cleric of Sarenrae' is just a mistake or it means something else.
Thank you :)
Foxy Quickpaw |
He introduced himself as part of the military clergy of Sarenrae. Classes don't exist in character. But the profession of a cleric does.
So that guy sports a holy symbol of Sarenrae, wields a scimitar, and uses divine magic.
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call it a duck. ;)
Aithaloessa Cyana |
Hello, everyone! Nice to meet you!
Once we take off and start gaining levels, I’ll be your requisite mad wizard (and friendly too, I hope). Pay no attention to her bad luck with her first few social rolls, please! Ha! I had imagined Aithaloessa as kind of a detective back in the Alkenstar guard, but now it’s becoming clear that she must have had decidedly more of a forensics bent than interviewing witnesses and such. And now I can’t help but think of Alec Baldwin’s hapless character in The Hunt for Red October: “CIA?!” “I’m not an agent! I just write books for the CIA!” :)
Yasmeena |
Hi all! Yasmeena is a bard, though her bardic performances don't affect the group, but she still has a lot of supportive spells, knowledge skills, and social abilities. I envision her as kind of a switch-hitter fighter, shooting her bow at enemies until they engage her and then switching to her scimitar. She also has rogue skills and can disarm locks and traps with pretty good odds of success.
Tariq, you and I should figure out our shared backstory, since we both have a strong motivational attachment to Haleen. Is it possible we all grew up in the same town after she and I escaped slavery together? Haleen visited Tariq at his temple, and perhaps Yasmeena came along too since she is also devoted to Sarenrae, though perhaps she never spent much time with Tariq. She might have thought Haleen had designs on the young cleric? Anyway, it might be interesting for us to recognize each other. What do you think?
Foxy Quickpaw |
I'm all fine with you checking each others characters out. But I'm a big fan of keeping player and character knowledge apart.
For example Stonefist. I didn't intend to invent a nickname. But Ibhrim Bin Sayyid didn't give his name in his introduction and Garavel didn't care to ask.
So, as long as Yasmeena haven't brought up her skills in gameplay it would be nice if no-one turned to her when the first locked door shows up and ask her to 'unlock' it. You get the idea.
If your character is up front, you can of course share directly in gameplay to get around that obstacle.
Yasmeena |
Yeah, I'm not sure if Yasmeena would want to advertise in character that she's skilled at picking locks. :D I heartily approve.
Aith, isn't that the same character that Jim from The Office plays now? You can look helplessly at the camera whenever you roll poorly!
Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
Totally understood. I think in this case it's due to set what our common past might have been.
Yasmeena, what are you to Haleen? Or what is she to you? Like a sister, a daughter, a niece? To Tariq, Haleen is like an elder sister, or the archetypical "cool aunt". This might be important to determine at what stages each of us have known and had contact with Haleen, and thus if we know each other or not, and if we do, to what extent.
This said, I'm perfectly okay with us knowing each other. In this case, we could add a retro-post (in spoilers or something), since it would be awkward that we haven't mentioned anything up till now.
Oh, and I should add to the description in the alias that, even though he has white hair, Tariq is in his early twenties (I just happened to notice now that the avatar had white hair, lol).
Foxy Quickpaw |
I just read up on "Finding Haleen" as I don't have the player's guide to the adventure. The part where she disappeared suggests you lost her at the same time. Nonetheless, it is possible that you both know her, without knowing each other. With Haleen helping several kids over the years checking on each of them regularily. But she always visited you, never the other way around.
This way each of you could have their own story, which you share in gameplay, without having to plan everything through beforehand.
Yasmeena |
Yasmeena and Haleen were as close as sisters, since they basically grew up together. I had pictured them being basically inseparable as teens, and though they probably lived in the same place, it's possible Haleen did things without Yasmeena's knowledge.
I was thinking it might be fun for Yasmeena to recognize Tariq, but as someone she only knew from a distance. It's not like they necessarily ever interacted, even if they both come from the same city.
Foxy Quickpaw |
1 gold. You brought it up, I thought you'd know.
Isabella takes the coin. "Your fine beverage will soon arrive."
@Antarah Khaled
Sorry, over the page break I mixed you two up and didn't notice you payed for Ibhrim.Aithaloessa Cyana |
Aith, isn't that the same character that Jim from The Office plays now? You can look helplessly at the camera whenever you roll poorly!
Wiki tells me yes! I’ve only ever seen an episode or two of the UK version of The Office, and I only know the silly old Tom Clancy films because my kid brother’s a fan of action thrillers, and I wasn’t allowed to choose all the films when we were kids. :)
Sounds about right, anyway. I hadn’t really thought that far ahead, but thinking about it a bit more now, there’s definitely something weirdly self-aware about Aith. Like she knows on some level that she’s not as hard-boiled a gumshoe/guardswoman as she must seem to be trying to be?
On a completely unrelated note, since idle hands do the devil’s work, and aspiring mages and alchemists would get dangerously bored just grinding gunpowder all the time, everyone should feel free to let me know if there’s alchemical stuff that they’ve a particular hankering for that Aith could work on as she starts devoting skill ranks.
Yasmeena |
Antitoxin and antivenom! Alchemical fire! :)
Aithaloessa Cyana |
Sorry for the wall of text in gameplay, but I thought I'd err on the side of providing a bunch to work with for CSI stuff. :)
Yasmeena |
I forgive you. ;)
Aithaloessa Cyana |
You folks have lost me with the Columbo references, although I do know of the "one more thing" - which is fine! I'm just observing different pop cultural touchstones. I only know Peter Falk from A Woman Under the Influence, and that's only because I hunted up a reference in a novel. :)
But what I actually meant to say was, don't worry about dominating the inquisition, Antarah: I think that someone most often ends up taking the lead with investigative scenarios in play-by-post games especially. I was absolutely that girl for a murder-y mystery PFS session once. And it's often fun to see someone take something and run with it while doing the heavy lifting.
Yasmeena |
You haven't seen The Princess Bride, Aith?!
Aithaloessa Cyana |
He's in that? It's been a while, and I came to it late. Labyrinth was/is my '80s fantasy film of choice. But then I know nothing of cinema.
Yasmeena |
Okay, whew. Yeah, he was the grandfather reading the book to the kid from Wonder Years in the framing story. :)
Yasmeena |
Just don't feed them after midnight, eh Aith?
Yasmeena |
Those rolls are really unfortunate, Aith. I guess that means you're due for some crits when we start combat?
Aithaloessa Cyana |
One can only hope. The dice roller is conspiring against any vision I might have had of being a detective running her own cases, chasing down villains, winning astounding revelations merely with persuasive argument... Absent-minded Hyper-focused professorship, here we come, I suppose.
*Insert unprintable sentiments about gremlins here.*
*Makes approving notes of suitable ways of feeding the blighters.*

To answer some questions that might or might not have been asked about the stingy situation in front of the cactus.
- simply pressing through the field nets you 1HP damage per 5ft.
- I'd let you weed it out at a speed of two rounds per 5 feet.
- shooting the rope: AC9/ 50% miss chance (rolled as 1d100, miss is 1-50). And you need the light positioned, or you get another 25%miss chance. Missing by 5 or more gives you a 50% chance to hit the goat (1-50 for hit goat).
Aithaloessa Cyana |
It is Grappled, not helpless, so no Coup-de-Grace. Not sure you can properly reach it even but I'll leave that to the GM.
Fair enough; I was probably being much too fast and loose, because I've never really played a grappler: hold? pin? game effects of either? In retrospect, I skipped way too many steps, but I was thinking, based on my sense of the size of the thing, that it would be like holding a small animal and using a captive (only not) bolt pistol. ... Sorry, that got grim rather quickly.
Foxy Quickpaw |
The picture you gave me when you told to hold it down for you to shoot. I don't know about you, but I'm sure I don't want to hold that thing, when someone with bad luck tries to shoot it's head off.
Aithaloessa Cyana |
As I said, fair. :) I have now refreshed my memory as to the differences between being pinned and being helpless: fortunately, I don't think Aith is crazy enough to try to convince anyone that playing William Tell is a good idea, even before unluck enters the equation. And that clip is horrifying.
Yasmeena |
I concur, horrifying. Jack Black is a quintessential bard, too. Shooting bards is not cool! (Or, I guess, he's also a monk...)
Yasmeena |
Heh, a friend of mine has a painted miniature of a pile of dead bards.
Foxy Quickpaw |
Question: Do you want to play combat with a map? Because I don't have a google account to do such interactive combat. I search for a picture for the matching map, and link that. So you get an idea how it looks and can name rooms to go.
If you want to move enemies and your characters around for proper positioning and such, I would need someone to provide a link to a google presentation, that we all can edit.
Aithaloessa Cyana |
I like fiddly tactical details! Read: At some point, someone's (*tries to looks innocent*) probably going to cast something that a bunch of folks won't want to be in the area of. :) So if we like, we could probably play around here, if I haven't messed up setting it up completely.
Foxy Quickpaw |
Another thing.
Plese everyone add a stat line like Yasmeena and Aithaloessa did. It would be nice to have one that is the same for all.
And please don't use spoilers in your profile to hide the stats. If I need to check something there, I search for it with CTRL+F. It's a pain in the ass to first open all the spoilers for that to work.
Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
Alright. Do you want me to add the actual descriptions instead of links? So you don't need to be clicking all the time. If I can ease your task, you'll enjoy more and so we'll enjoy more and we all want that.
Edit: Done what you asked, though left the background in spoilers. If you want, I can remove them as well. Will also remove links if your answer is affirmative. Going to bed now, good night!
Aithaloessa Cyana |
Aith shoots the pugwampi on the chandellier, who grabs its chest, losing hold of the rope and falling to its death 10 foot below.
That's a relief, and sorry if the interior monologue was too whiny. Good heavens, though! Just when I was thinking, "What could be more annoying than goblins?" another small pest decides to demonstrate. :)
Tariq Ibn Ziyad |
I'm not sure which ones I hatemore: pugwampis, murlocs or fetishes. They're all quite close.
