Ter hops onto Nasir's shoulder and cranes her head in that bird way that mammals just can't do, inspecting the details of the armor.

"Honored Council members, as a native Magnimarian I will help however I can and see if my companions will be willing join this quest. However, we had intended this visit to be brief, we still have unfinished business to finish exploring the Forlorn Sepulchers back on Rivenrake Island and consult with the spirit of Thybidos, the runelord of wrath before Alaznist. Sorshen implied he has information that will aid our effort to ultimately confront Alaznist, assuming she really has returned. Should we delay going to the Gecko until we return, or should we run down this lead in the Gecko first?"
"Frantino Kaddren, I fear the issue in the Gecko will only get worse if it is not addressed immediately," says Sheila Heidmarch.
"I agree," says Koriah from where she sits in her council chair. "Xanesha's presence suggests others are involved. How would her unquiet spirit be moved to the Gecko, otherwise?"

Frantino Kaddren |

Knowledge religion: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + (1) = 18
Frantino helps Ayita brief the party on the conversation with the Sihedron Council.
"I know we only intended to come back here for a few days to get restoration spells and do some shopping to improve our equipment, but when we showed them Maga Szuul's orders from "Leptonia" to get an abyssal runestone so that they can release some kind of plague in Magnimar, they have asked us to investigate the Gecko under the Irespan bridge first. It feels like we're leaving unfinished business back on Rivenrake Island because we never made it to Runelord Thybidos, as requested by Runelord Sorshen in our dreams. Which task do each of you think we should pursue first? Looks like we need to take a vote."
Frantino is very interested in the quality workmanship of Nasir's armor and the Sarenite passage etched into his scimitar. "I know many languages and my new headband is enchanted to give me the ability to read and speak additional languages, but Kelish is not one of them, at least not yet. The script is beautiful to look at!"

![]() |

"Frantino, I believe the impending release of a plague in Magnimar supersedes returning to the crypts which we secured. The cultists that were there have been taken care of, and we should have time to return if that is still required."

![]() |

I'm definitely in favor of assisting here, before returning to the crypts. Given that undead are involved, it's good that Doc has returned to his full abilities.

Frantino Kaddren |

"While I don't like the idea that we left the Forlorn Sepulchers partially open even though we did what we could to seal it, no one should be able to open that internal door with the indentations since we have one of the required gems with us. More importantly, as a citizen of Magnimar I don't like the idea of some cult releasing a plague here, but I didn't feel comfortable speaking for the group to the Sihedron Council. This is a decision we need to make together. Nasir and Doc, what do you say?"

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

"It is unanimous zen. Zere is clearly a zreat zat needs to be confronted here. We saw what za cult did to one of zeir followers, what would zey do to innocents? Let us end zis cult of Yamasoth quickly before any damage is done. I am ready to go now."

Frantino Kaddren |

AYAVAH'S VISION
When asked about her vision, Ayavah says she saw the heroes, minus Roscoe, standing side by side with Runelord Sorshen before a vast, churning portal.
"Where are your friends?," she asks. "Have they all perished on Rivenrake Island?"
Clearly she is worried by the absence of Nasir, Doc and Ezranadir. The vision was maddeningly vague, but she’s certain it represents something in the future, and if the entire group of heroes and Sorshen are not present before this vast portal, wherever it may be, something dire will befall Varisia—for beyond the portal Ayavah had a glimpse of a towering elephantine behemoth thundering through reality toward this world.
The Sihedron Council trusts Ayavah’s report of the vision (bolstered by the use of falsehood-detecting magic), even if its members aren’t quite convinced of the vision’s source.
"You know," says Ayavah. "I live near the Gecko, in a small complex in the piling opposite the Gecko. I've noticed lots of comings and goings through a hexagonal window at the Gecko's upper heights."
She hesitates. "And, umm, well, I swear I've seen a serpentine ghost going in and out. I fear it may be the undead spirit of one of Underbridge's most notorious monsters, a lamia matriarch named Xanesha."
"WHAT?" exclaims Koriah. She turns to Sheila Heidmarch. "If this is true, we must investigate the Gecko IMMEDIATELY!"
Heidmarch nods. "But who, Koriah? The Council's resources are spread thin. If it IS Xanesha, allied with this cult of Yamasoth... we don't have anybody right now who can handle it."
Frantino (with Ayita's help) recounts the specifics we were told about the vision of a participant in the Council meeting that we hadn't met before, a dark-haired woman with pointed ears and goatlike horns named Ayavah who was introduced as a "talented local artist." Frantino is specifically focused on the report of a "serpentine ghost" which seems to be a lamia matriarch ghost.
"We've seen a handful of incorporeal opponents of late, which have been difficult to fight even when I manage to hand out a few ghost touch enchantments. Some have been invisible, too. My cousin, who adventured as one of the Sihedron Heroes for a short while, told me about a potion that can help, the elixir of spirit sight. For one minute you can see invisible creatures and your weapons and armor become ghost touch. It's a bit pricey at 1000 gp but may be worth it for this fight. If we relied on my abilities to enhance weapons and armor the first person's would be expiring by the time I finished with the last. We may each need the ability to fly, too. A scroll of the fly spell is 375 gp and lasts five minutes, while a potion is twice as much. We may as well be fully prepared since we've been warned!"

GM Derek |

AYAVAH'S HERETICAL BELIEFS
As Frantino and Ayita leave the Sihedron Council, AYaVah catches up with them outside Heimarch Manor.
"Wait for one moment, Frantino Kaddren and Ayita of the Hawk Clan," she says. "I have not told the Council this, but... my visions do not come from any destiny or deep study. Rather, from my goddess, the Redeemer Queen."
She reveals a holy symbol about her neck, a moon with a pair of smirking lips and a seven-pointed crown.
"We, the Cult of the Redeemer Queen, follow the demon lord, Nocticula. She has long been the demon queen of assassins, darkness, and lust. But she is on the cusp of transcending her nature and rising as a goddess of artists, midnight, and outcasts, leaving behind her evil nature. Many signs and portents from our clerics, should they be accurate, say that this in the process of unfolding at this very moment!"
"More traditional cults of Nocticula, evil indeed, find us heretical and seek to stamp out our belief in the redemption of the Lady Nocticula. I believe that my vision was sent directly from the Lady, who sees in Runelord Sorshen a perfect proxy for her new role as a goddess of outcasts."
"I believe the Redeemer Queen wants you to ally with Sorshen to help her abandon her past and rebuild herself into something new. Something greater. Something unhindered by cliched obsessions and physical gratifications of the flesh."

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

"Za Dawnflower accepts zat all can be redeemed if zey try, and it sounds like your batron is trying mightily to do so. If we can helb her to turn away from evil, zen I am willing to do so. I am not sure how allying wiz a fallen Runelord can help her or us, but we will find out I subbose.
For now, take us to where you have seen zis ghost after we have brocured our supplies for fighting a ghost."

Regarding the potions of flying; I have figured out how to use stronger magics in the last few days. I haven't been using my carnival skills for a while and no longer feel proficient in some of that, but I'm focusing on what I learned in town from our ranger friend.
My new spell summons a wind spirit that can fly me around; not very fast, but it lasts 80 minutes with my new headband that adds to flying abilities. I should be able to cast one on Yazhi too, but that's all, sorry. I still have the Carpet too, I had a dream where I needed it... but someone could use it if they wish.
Carrying Wind (at Ayita's level), she can do 2/day - target is "you", 10 min./level. "When you cast this spell, a wind spirit envelopes you and carries you with it at your direction. You gain a +10-foot enhancement bonus to your base speed and fly speed while this spell is in effect. If you don’t have a fly speed, you instead gain a fly speed of 10 feet with poor maneuverability". ...The flying improves at higher levels.

Frantino Kaddren |

Frantino is impressed with Ayita's new ability. "Slow flying is better than no flying, especially when you can keep it up for over an hour! Nice. Are you sure you're not a sylph?"
Turning to Ayavah, "This is interesting and I hope that this is true, but I'm still not clear on what that has to do with us. We're not the Sihedron Heroes! We're just some folks who helped Roderic's Cove and now we're being asked to save Magnimar from a plague? I'm not comfortable finding out we're in the middle of the mysterious machinations of a runelord and a demon lord, even one who may or may not be redeemed soon. What is soon to a demon lord, just another century? Let's take this one step at a time and see if your information about a ghost lamia is accurate. Is there anything else you can tell us about the comings and goings of the Gecko, since you live so close to it?"
Frantino may have heard some things about the Gecko while growing up here.
Knowledge local: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 9 + (2) = 30

GM Derek |

Is there anything else you can tell us about the comings and goings of the Gecko, since you live so close to it?"[/b]
Frantino may have heard some things about the Gecko while growing up here.
The Irespan is Magnimar’s most impressive landmark, an immense span of ruined Thassilonian bridge that once ran all the way to Hollow Mountain. Today, only a fragment of the bridge remains, held aloft by several thick stone pilings, decorated with images and carvings of different creatures. That these pilings contain chambers is no secret, and in some cases the people of Magnimar have colonized or settled in them. This is not the case with the piling known as the Gecko.
"From the outside The Gecko appears to have no entrance. I'm sure there used to be an entrance, but it is long sealed by Magnimaran authorities," says Ayavah. "I recall seeing people moving in and out somehow, high up on the walls of the Gecko. But now... nothing."
Ayavah points out a hexagonal window, high up on the piling, nearly 220 feet above the ground and 30 feet away from the underside of the Irespan above. The Gecko’s walls have plenty of handholds, but slippery lichen, bird droppings, and not a few crumbling portions make climbing up to either location tricky.
"That window is sealed, but... that's the easiest way in, I think," she says.

Ayita looks up at toward the area that Ayavah indicates.
perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
I see that; the gargoyle near it is... cleaner? newer? than the others. I bet it activates.

Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |

"Now we need to get up zere. Is it time to try your newfound powers of flight, Ayita? Or berhabs use your carpet? If you cannot ferry us up zere, zen take some rope and lower it down for us to climb up, yes?"

![]() |

Assuming the characters have all completed their shopping...
Ayita gets out her carpet and sets up some of the amazing buttery, flaky pastries with nuts, honey, blackberries, and other delicacies - along with some amazing coffee - that she found at the markets for her friends to enjoy before the next foray into doom... then...
Ter, can you please do a little more observing, from a good distance above, of this window and the top of the structure?
Ter perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 20 = 29
Assuming Ter sees nothing pertinent, after a few minutes we can all get our various flying and other magics ready to go. Ayita has "Shield Companion" on her critter friends as usual; she has a couple of "holy weapon balms" available, and has already applied the adamantine weapon blanche on 10 blunt arrows (in case that helps against the gargoyle; the blanches don't expire until ammo or weapon is used). Also numerous other arrows are available and her bow is out.
Who would like to come up on the carpet first? Yazhi and I will be flying separately. Let's check if that gargoyle is magic, before we get too close to it.
Once someone is on the carpet and knows how to use it, she'll cast her 2 Carrying Wind spells.

GM Derek |

All aboard the flying train!
Who is flying, who is carpeting, who is being carried by Carrying Wind? Asking for a friend...
I've put all of you on a new generic map to represent the vertical wall of the Gecko piling. The top of the map is the top of the piling where the gargoyle and secret door are located.

![]() |

To save gold and potions, we can use the carpet for everyone sequentially if there is no issue with attacks. Perhaps Nasir or Frantino could come up first with Yazhi and I at first in case of trouble. Ezranadir has good distance magics and perhaps Doc could help that way too.

![]() |

Frantino purchased an elixir of spirit sense. He'll cast see invisibility for sixty minutes and use one of his scrolls of fly, duration 5 minutes.
UMD: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 vs DC 25
UMD: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 vs DC 25
Frustrated and not wanting to risk a mishap, he asks Ezranadir to cast the scroll on him instead. He'll then fly up with Ayita and Yazhi, on the alert for any ghosts or gargoyles.

![]() |

Ezranadir can cast the Fly off the scroll for Frantino. It will be at +1 caster level so it lasts 8 minutes. Frantino can also Fly under a heavy load at 40 ft instead of 60 ft and ascends at half speed. So not sure if he wants to carry someone. Ezranadir can cast 2 Levitates & 1 Fly spell. Someone uses the carpet & he casts 2 levitates on himself & one other. Frantino could pull/push us onto the ledge.

Wrathful Wail (Su) Xanesha can unleash a wail of anguished wrath. All creatures in a 30-foot burst must succeed at a DC 25 Will save or become consumed with rage. An affected creature can take no action on its turn other than to physically attack an adjacent target with a melee weapon (or an unarmed strike, if no melee weapon is available). If there are no adjacent targets, the enraged creature must charge the nearest available target. This effect lasts for 1d4 rounds. This is a sonic, mind-affecting, emotion effect; the save DC is Charisma-based.
Good catch re: the attack. I was mistaken about Doc. YOu must attack an adjacent target first, which means Xanesha. Attack must be melee.

Ayita and Yazhi continue snarling at eachother...
Ayita attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 misses
Yazhi attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 hits
damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 bleed
