Maps and Handouts

Greetings! Space for a least 2 more.

This is the recruitment thread for Pathfinder Society Quest #1, The Sandstone Secret, written by Linda Zayas-Palmer. This is a repeatable quest and as such includes several variables to make the experience different each time.

Quests are much shorter than scenarios. They estimate taking about an hour when played face-to-face.

I am a new GM. I will make my best effort to create a fun experience for the players, but please be patient with any mistakes I make. I welcome experienced GMs or players and am very open to help, tips and constructive criticism. I'll be asking for feedback after the quest is completed. That said, new players are very much welcome.

Start date: November 4th, as long as we have enough players. First-come-first-serve.

Expectations: One post a day during the week, one post during the weekend if possible.

Expressed Interest GM Numbat, Iogsig, Arlo of the Solemn Towers, and GM Crunch.

I'd be interested. Do you want a character pitch right away, or do we make the characters as a group?

Hi Mognolar! Thanks for the interest. It’s Pathfinder Society, so you can bring whatever character you like, level 1-4.

Silver Crusade

I have this Core warrior who can join if you so wish! :)

Forgive me if I’m mistaken but is that a 1st ed. character? This is 2nd ed.

Silver Crusade

Oops, you're right! I'm still struggling a bit with the different editions ^^" Sorry! Best of luck!

No problem!

Grand Lodge

Checking in to confirm my interest. This will be my first Pathfinder PBP game, though I have played lots of Starfinder PBP.

Uncertain of whether I'll use Arlo or a new Pathfinder 2 character.

Vigilant Seal

Lande is ready for his first Pathfinder mission.

Confirming! Will post character tonight.

Reporting for duty.

First order of importance - GM Stienkrug, I suggest you start the Gamethread with an ooc post directing players to "dot in". Then make sure to never delete it.

Deleting first posts can cause major problems. Allowing players to dot in means they will have this game show in their campaigns and are less likely to miss a post.

Players, I will need to make a new character, who would you like to accompany you on this adventure? I am open to playing almost anything.

Radiant Oath

GM Numbat dropping a quick post using my current in-play (PbP) PFS2 character so others can take a look at tagline and botting instructions (probably more detailed botting than really needed) as potential examples.

Verdant Wheel

Kazikli is also ready!

I don't have much preference, Numbat. At the moment, we don't seem to have confirmed melee. (But that is if Arlo is being played, Arlo is a gnome, and with the particularly dangerous assumption that gnomes can't fight head-on!)

Grand Lodge

Arlo is actually a human universalist wizard. 2nd level.

I'll try to update information on his profile later.

OK. I am most of the way through whipping up a Barbarian. I had one started so that seemed the way to go.

Added Gameplay and Discussion tabs for dotting. Thanks, Numbat.

So, I believe we have:

Mognolar - TBD
Quirk - Arlo, Human Wizard 2
MrStr4nge - Lande, Human Cleric 1
Iogsig - TBD
Numbat - Barbarian
Crunch - Kazikli, Half-Orc Sorcerer 1

That's a full table as long as Mognolar is indeed interested.

If anyone else has interest, can keep you in mind as a backup if someone has to drop out between now and when we start.

I am still interested and I think I'll put up a ranger. Should be done sometime tomorrow.

Great! Glad to hear it.

Ok, I've got the crunch done, but I'm still working on the story. I'm new to the paizo forums and to organized play, so the part about botting and boons will also take a few more days. Maybe someone could help me out with a few pointers?

"Botting" is what happens when you are unavailable to post for some reason (e.g. your internet went down). The GM or another player can play your character according to the general guidelines you specify, and they can copy-paste your pre-prepared dice rolls that have the correct modifiers for your common skill checks and attacks. Those are also useful for GMs when they need to make secret checks, e.g. using your Perception or Lore skills. GM Numbat posted with a character Tasaria above and if you look at their profile, you can see a good example of botting instructions.

PFS2 org play rules, including stuff about boons, can be found here. Note that this is actively being developed and will change over time.

If you are entirely new to org play, the only boon you probably have is your free faction boon (i.e. the champion boon for whichever faction you selected first for your character). You can buy other boons with Fame as you progress, or receive them through Chronicles after completing scenarios. There is typically a time just after the mission briefing from the Venture Captain for each scenario, when you get to select which boons to slot for that scenario. The rules for slotting boons are in the org play guide above.

Also read about Pathfinder Training in the org play docs. You can choose to belong to one (or more) of the 3 schools of training, which can give you free items to use for the duration of the scenario. Or, you can choose to be field-commissioned instead of Pathfinder-trained, which means no free items but you get 50% more downtime.

Thanks very much for providing that info, Lusinel!

Envoy's Alliance

Thanks, I'll try to incorporate all of that ASAP.

Grand Lodge

I am going to look through the book and possible create another character for online play. I'll keep in mind what we already have (though it looks like we have most bases covered).

In any case, I should know what I'm doing within the next couple of days.

The other thing to know about botting instructions, they can make the player's life much easier too. All you need to do is copy and paste from your own botting instructions to potentially save a lot of time.

No problem, Arlo/Quirk.

So, as an update, I think this is where we stand:

Mognolar - Koruk Dolgringun, Dwarf Ranger 1
Quirk - TBD
MrStr4nge - Lande, Human Cleric 1
Iogsig - Lusinel, Elf Rogue 1
Numbat - TBD, Barbarian
Crunch - Kazikli, Half-Orc Sorcerer 1

I added a slides link. Hopefully I did that correctly and everyone can view!

Leaning toward either a goblin bard or an alchemist. Doing a bit of reading tonight.

I have decided.

Myra, Bearer of Fortunes is my new dwarven bard. She'll be joining everyone on this adventure.
