Fun fact: I was actually thinking Sherman's powers coming from Black Butterfly instead of Desna (due to the Dark Tapestry mystery). Sherman just mistakenly believing it is Desna - BB being less known but having similar butterfly motif and quite close portfolios.

And quite close relationship, as well. The two are likely really friendly neighbors.

So gang... i assume vengeance is on our horizon at some point. Anyone got any strategies
Estella Vale
I may be biased about this particular plan but I still think we could get some decent damage in by dropping the statue on her head.
On my end, I can give everyone a +2 to Strength and spirit totem powers with my Controlled Inspired Rage song, or try Infuriating Mockery and debuff the lady so she'll have difficulty attacking and casting spells. Though, that would require her to fail a will check. Anyone know how good she is at those?
Besides that, Estella's built to be right behind the frontliners, poking at the boss from behind them and healing them when necessary, so that's what I was planning.
Ain the watcher
I have Burst of Radiance, weapon of awe and a good amount of healing from spells
Tarphrex the Magnificent
She has spell resistance, so spells targeting her have to get past that. My glitterdust to keep her from going invisible, maybe bring some ranged options so she has to move to take damage, maybe drop her in a pit - i don’t recall whether she had multiple attacks or not. We may be lacking frontliners if you are both second-rank builds to heal the frontline. Right now, we have three healers, so everyone should be able to stretch their damage-dealing muscles, too.
Unrelated, but thinking on this combat, I think my next feat needs to be spell penetration despite all that talk about dragon-themed options, etc.
I recognize the request for a crafting feat, but I’ve never seen a PBP AP where it was anything but a waste of a feat because the pace of the story doesn’t allow downtime to build enough things to make it worth it.
Elisani Dascalu
Do any of our spellcasters have levitate or fly? The non-stealthy folks might be able to take Snake Lady by surprise if they come up over the side of the tower rather than taking the stairs. Elisani can be very sneaky indeed with her Dex mutagen and alchemical allocation + elixir of hiding, so she can probably make it up an old creaky flight of stairs without being detected.
Burst of radiance and glitterdust are both excellent; if she fails the save on either, she'll be blinded and much easier to deal with.
Re: crafting feat, I asked because the party wizard in a Wrath of the Righteous game I'm playing has made us several wondrous items so far. Maybe that AP has more downtime than is usual?
Ain the watcher
I can do many things, flying isn't one of them yet. Got a killer defense for a caster though.
Also packing Bless for what thats worth

Ironically, my one crafting feat was taken in a WotR adventure and I've never had opportunity to use it. Definitely up to the GM, but I'm kind of sour on the idea now.
Elisani Dascalu
Ouch, that sucks. :( I guess my GM in that game is more lenient than most when it comes to crafting time. No worries then, Magnimar has plenty of places to buy magic items. IMO the only time you really need item crafting is if you're spending most of the campaign out in the sticks where there aren't any places to buy magic items.
Sherman Blake
Well, first of all, can we assume the enemy is still there on the top of the tower?
But if the encounter would be similar to the previous one, the issues we need to tackle:
- invisible enemy (see invisibility and/or glitterdust)
- the nauseating crushing despair whatever debuff (buffing will saves or emotion effects)
- turning to stone (buffing fort save, scroll of stone to flesh?)
- enemy ac - IIRC 24 to hit wasn't enough. (buff hit rolls, debuff AC?)
- mirror images (dispel magic)
- magic resistance and crazy saves - At least ref saves she'll fail only on nat 1
- deadly attacks (high ac / mirror images etc. for our tank)
Don't know what magic she had besides the demon illusion, invisibility and mirror images. So if we could surprise her, her defences might be lower
Estella Vale
Considering the circumstances, it's probably best I use the Controlled Inspired Rage song.
Infuriating Mockery, my other rage song option, lowers both AC and attack bonus by 2, which would be great, but that's entirely dependent on her failing the will save, and the DC for that is a not-particularly-impressive 17 :/ It miiight be worth a shot but at this level starting a rage song is still an action so if it fails, that's a turn lost.
For Controlled Inspired Rage, it'd grant everyone a +2 STR morale bonus. So that's a +1 to hit. Add Flagbearer for another +1 morale bonus, this time directly to hit so they get to both exist at the same time, and we'll have a +2 passively throughout the fight. I can also cast Moment of Greatness to add another +1 by doubling either of those morale bonuses for the entire party for 1 roll.
That's the hit roll buffs I've got on me.
Additionally, we'll get Lesser Spirit Totem and Spirit Totem rage powers while the song's active. Lesser isn't too great here: 1d4 + Charisma damage per player would be great additional damage, but it requires people to be adjacent to the enemy and needs to hit with my BAB + my Charisma without any chance to boost, so I doubt many of them will get through.
The Spirit Totem, however, grants a 20% miss chance on all attacks made against if they're ranged or melee without being adjacent (IE: Reach!). Hopefully that should cancel out a hefty attack or two of hers.
If we don't have a dedicated frontliner, Estella could try to go for that. Her AC could probably use a boost if she's gonna do that, but she does have Mirror Images.
Ain the watcher
It may also be we're trying to tackle this too early or something. I know this is one of the early aps and there's more than one tpk spot
Sherman Blake

Could be. Then again, AP's are designed primarily for four characters, so we should have advantage there. Also last time our rolls sucked.
--
For inspired rage, I think of the current party only Estella herself benefits of str buff. RePete's monk as well once he joins. Elisani is Finesse. And the casters all have negative strength bonus :)
I think we need to wait for Enano to have some kind of front line hitter. Elisani could also be quite tanky with proper buffing.
Also, if we have any summon spells (I don't), they could benefit from the rage
Estella Vale
Come level 8 I can hand out both a +2 STR and +2 DEX at the same time, so at least Elisani will be covered, but I sadly don't have anything for spellcasters :(
Enano
I imagine she'll be a good one to disarm. I might be capable with the Boosts from the songs.
The silence last time was nice. If you need a moving target, I don't need to talk in a fight.
Edit: I also kind of want to drop a statue on top of her...can we by dynamite?
Ain the watcher
disarming i can do, Burning disarm would bypass her spell resistance because it targets the object not her
Sherman Blake

But I think the enemy can just choose to take the damage and hold the weapon?
BTW, true strike is excellent spell for combat maneuvers. Disarm, or bull rushing her off the tower <3
But I'm not sure if anyone has it.

True Strike is, Burning disarm is short. that said if she chooses to hold it, i do more damage with fire spells per die rolled so its a win win, her spell resistance still wouldnt apply at least.
Did have this funny idea to use burning disarm with solar bloodline to heal people

One of my coworkers told me that their group just collapsed the entire clock tower. They got arrested for it, but they killed the monster.

Hahaha, that's amazing!
Elisani could probably tank with all her buffs and a few more from our oracles on board. Pretty sure Enano will be better at it, though.

Looked over your sheet. Only thing I saw was that you didn't hae your rage songs listed and your HP should be at 50 (presuming you took the average).
Can't seem to get the rage songs on the sheet so I'll put em up in my profile.
As for the HP, my character manager came with this HP by taking the average rounded up every level + CON and favored class bonus, which is 5 + 2 + 1 = 8 per level. 8 * 6 is 48. Is there something I'm missing here? I'm not sure where the extra 2 HP would come from.
Ain the watcher
thats how my old group handled it, collapsing the tower. we had a decent relationship with the town and explained that there was a dangerous creature at the top.

First level isn’t usually the average, it’s the maximum available. Not sure that explains it, though…
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Tarphrex would be down with casting from scrolls to give people flight. He’s hesitant to drop the tower as long as there’s a chance of recovering Zenaida and restoring her to life.
I actually think Estella should have 51 hp unless she didn’t take the bonus hit point at every level. Maybe she took some skill points instead?
Tarphrex the Magnificent
I am on the road hoping for clear skies at eclipse time. Can someone tell me if shrink item would be available on a scroll and ‘castable’ by our party? Would it work on Zenaida’s statuesque form? Spit-balling ideas.
GM Sphen
@Estella: Tarphrex is right, spot on. Should be 51, taking full HP at first level.
____________
@Everyone: I'm going to try and keep caught up with this as much as I can this week. Fair warning, my brain is loaded to the max right now. Next week is a week off, as a reminder. It's Farmageddon for me and I'll be even busier getting my games prepared.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Success! We saw the eclipse totality, all of it! We had clouds off and on during the partial, completely lost sight of the sun because the clouds were so thick, then as we were counting down the last minutes before totality, it was clear! So cool - and now we are fleeing to get out of the path of some potentially nasty storms. My resident astronomer and trip planner has no interest, zip-zero-zilch, in chasing severe weather or waiting around for it to arrive.
Sherman Blake
Nice! I remember seeing total eclipse once as a kid.
Stay safe and avoid storms!
Estella Vale
That's awesome! Glad you managed to get a chance to see totality despite the weather. Take care!
GM Sphen
I'm jealous you got complete totallity.
We had about 95% and it just felt like I was wearing sunglasses.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Partial eclipse was very cool. Totality was a different experience. It was a bit of a hassle, over 550 miles on the road and three days off from work (ok, not complaining about that part) and then scrub the original plan and bug out early.
We are still 100 miles from home, but we have tomorrow off. I wouldn’t have wanted to rush back and forth - we like to wander leisurely from place to place and have seen some beautiful country today that most travelers won’t.
Totally worth it. Opportunities to do things like this are what I want to spend my money on.

Yall ever look at the prestige class Mortal usher? Its got some serious shenanigan potential
Elisani Dascalu
Someday, I will get into a Carrion Crown or Tyrant's Grasp game. And on that day I will make a character designed to take Mortal Usher. It's a super cool prestige class.
@GM: Zenaida's last name is Radulescu. ;) Andrezi, Zenaida's dad, took Malena's name when they got married, since it was her family's name on the shop. So Elisani is a Dascalu (since her mom never saw any need for a husband) and Zenaida is a Radulescu.

I... I knew that. I was testing you. Yeah, that's it. It was a test.
And you passed. Congratulations! You get a gold star! And a big THUMBS UP!!

I've been rolling K(Local) checks for some of the NPC's to see if they know what this creature is. Adding +5 to it because they're only hearing it described. Haven't rolled a double digit number yet.

There’s probably a penalty if the description comes from Tarphrex…

Sorry for lack of posting... Caught a bad case of flu, and using the little energy I have to get some work done.

Oh, don't worry about posting, thanks for checking in - really sorry to hear you were down. Hope you are on the mend.

Just dropping by to reaffirm that I am also still alive, just hadn't had much to contribute right now.
Hope you get well soon, Sherman!

Hope you're feeling better, Sherman!

And thank you all for waiting. Another day and I'll have all the reports done for Farmageddon. Financials are TEDIOUS.

Welcome back, GM! Wow, I hadn't realized you were one of the people running the con. That's a lot of work. I hope you had a good time even so!

Welcome back, GM! Wow, I hadn't realized you were one of the people running the con. That's a lot of work. I hope you had a good time even so!
I am and we did.
Though only one table actually managed to complete a scenario.Friday was the module Doom Comes to Dustpawn, the group made it to the final fight with 10 minutes to spare.
Saturday morning was the PFS scenario The Sealed Gate, same thing. With many of the same players.
The rest of Saturday was The Gauntlet, where only 2 of my 5 players made it to the final chamber.
Sunday I ran Fallen Family, Broken Name. That scneario is a quest scenario; complete as many of the 5 as possible, but you can replay it for free to get the ones you missed. And that group did 4 out of the 5 even though I forgot to adjust the encounters down for only having 4 players.
But, overall, it was a good time and had no actual difficulties. And, as per usual, we're already looking at next year.
Estella Vale
Sounds like it was a pretty big success once again!
GM Sphen
We definetly had a better year for the Gauntlet. Last year, we only had one team sign up. This year, we had 4 (whihc is the max).
So it was nice to see all the work I put into writing said Gauntlet actually get used. It sucks that none of the teams were able to complete it, but maybe next year.

@Elisani: I like the part about a 'bronze dragon accent'. I never thought about draconic accents before, especially not by sub-species.
Elisani Dascalu
Haha, I'm kind of a linguistics nerd (as well as many other kinds of nerd). All languages have accents! Given the wildly different environments in which various draconic subspecies live, it makes sense that each would develop their own accent and environment-specific vocabulary. Bronze dragons would have a bunch of specialist terms for tides, currents, and sea life, silver dragons would have terms for different types of snow and ice, brass dragons would have terms for desert species, types of sandstorms, etc. And given that kobold tribes tend to be pretty insular, I imagine each of them would have their own accent as well.
The backstory I came up with there is that someone stole from a young bronze dragon's hoard and made it to Magnimar with their loot. Said dragon was extremely embarrassed and hired the Unblinking Eye to discreetly find the miscreant and return his property, so his parents wouldn't know that a thief had made it into his lair and out again. He got to chatting with Elisani, discovered a mutual interest in languages, and they made a deal. He taught her Draconic and she taught him Varisian. Both of them were delighted to talk with someone who could keep up with them Int-wise.
This is what happens when I can't sleep at night. :P
