Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
"Professor Fuhln of course." says Gwen, angry that familiar is picking this moment to be funny.
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
"Not the point, Grog." says Gwen through gritted teeth.
Ironshanks Magee |
"Yep, come this way if ye would Professor." Ironshanks attempts/offers to lead the man out of the room and into the hallway in case things go awry.
Urias Leogil |
Move forward then.
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
Let's maybe clear the area of dangerously incompetent people--party members included ;)--and shove the orb into the ghost trap first. The only problem being Gwen's not sure if the orb is powering the circle keeping stuff out or the portal open to another dimension.
GM Aerondor |
Well, if you want to take an action, now is the time...
Argenta Ibn Jad |
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Argenta casts a couple of spells in preparation in case this devolves into a fight.
Casting protection from evil on myself and activating wand of shield
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Urias Leogil |
Urias stands ready.
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
"Oh! Oh! I've got a question!" pipes up trying to buy time. "Say you are a ferryman on a busy riverway. At your first stop, you pick up twenty-nine people. On your second stop, eighteen of those twenty-nine people get off, and at the same time ten new passengers arrive. At your next stop, three of those ten passengers get off, and thirteen new passengers come on. On your fourth stop four of the remaining ten passengers get off, six of those new thirteen passengers get off as well, then seventeen new passengers get on. What is the color of the ferryman’s eyes?"
Ironshanks Magee |
Once the professor is safely out of the room, Ironshanks will take one of the containment devices and head for the orb to 'contain' it. He avoids the magical circle on the floor.
"Yap yap yap, time ta get this done with already. We got more of these to get remember?"
GM Aerondor |
"I eat them all!" snarls the creatures as it forces its way across the circle.
Init time. Anyone beating init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 may act
Argenta Ibn Jad |
Init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Acting quickly Argenta casts Haste on the group.
Tatiana Malkolva |
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
This time, Tatiana is able to act quickly!
She concentrates and a ray of pure cold sprouts out of her hand to hit the creature.
RTA, PbS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11
Cold, PbS: 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (3, 4) = 9
She then draws her rapier.
Urias Leogil |
Init 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Readied attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 161d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Stepping forward, Urias readies himself for the attack he knows coming. Once the creature comes into his range, he intended for it to taste his weapon's blade!
Ironshanks Magee |
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"Huh? Ah crap."
Where is the orb located so I can have Ironshanks near it, or did this happen before he got that far?
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
Sooo that's a 'no' to any sort of clarification then.
init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
GM Aerondor |
The party speeds up and Tatiana draws forth a ray of gold. Unfortunately the creature, used to the freezing cold of the void between stars barely even notices it.
Urias stands ready to act
Maren screams in horror and starts to cast a spell.
Technically attracting an AOO from Tatiana, although at the moment you have no reason to think he is not on your side.
You all slap your hands over your ears as a painful psychic scream echoes through your heads.
damage: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 4, 6, 6) = 23 and confused for 1d6 rounds, you can roll for yourself.

[init]1d20+1
I think I rolled my initiative up here. And I think I still get an action of some sort too, or are my posts just somehow invisible to gamemasters now? Yooowhoo! Up there!! ^
In that same vein GM, did you read Hera's action? Or any of the questions above that in the spoilers? Waiting on a bone here.
Gwen will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Hera will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Gwen says a quick magical word (made even quicker by the haste) and a thick curtain drops upon the tentacled horror.
Gwen casts minor image (DC 17) over the area making the ceiling seem to covered in furled stage curtains. She causes one of the curtains to fall upon the monster.
Where is the orb located so I can have Ironshanks near it, or did this happen before he got that far?
I think it is where I placed Hera, but something more definitive might be helpful. I don't even know if Hera is actually there or not because of a number of questions that have yet to be answered.
GM Aerondor |
Yes, I can see your posts, but I think my browser was doing something with caching this site as I could see posts and then not see them in spire of reloading. Whatever, I can see it now. Gwen acts before the creature.
Hera lands on the orb, but it doesn't bite her or anything.
I have moved Hera to the table, and added an orb picture there.
As the curtains fall from the ceiling, the party may or may not be a bit confused.
Will DC 17 or believe in the curtains falling from the ceiling. This will prevent you using effects that rely on line of sight if you have them.

Will save versus illusion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Argenta curses, Where did those curtains come from, I cannot see the damn thing!
Argenta delays for now, if I still cannot see it before its next go I am likely to pick something to do, not sure what yet, so please dont jump to its next turn without giving me a chance to jump in.
Tatiana Malkolva |
@GM May be a sense motive check will help Tatiana that the intent of the caster is to betray us?
Sense Motive (if allowed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
AoO (if Sense motive enough and allowed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damages: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Will DC16: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 +2 vs charm or compulsion
Tatiana Malkolva |
Will DC17: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Tatiana's will reject the idea of the curtains falling on her. After moving around, she tries to attack the man who just casts a spell on her.
Cold iron Rapier (on the defensive): 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 4 = 21
Damages: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sneak if applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Urias Leogil |
Will Save? 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Taken 11 damage.
Curtains! 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Attack? 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 191d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Urias manages to shunt the pain from the screaming via gritting his teeth though he sneezes as curtains come falling down.
Luckily he needed but a single step to try and prevent the creature from advancing towards Gwen and Hera.
Ironshanks Magee |
Will, Racial vs DC16 Scream: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
Ironshanks seems to get no where. He can't convince the old professor to leave the room and he can't seem to find the orb before all hell breaks loose. He claps his hands over the earholes of his helmet and swears. "That's louder than Torag's hammer n anvil, geezus man!"
Will, Racial vs DC17 Illusion: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
The old Dwarf recovers his wits just in time to see through the fake curtains falling from the ceiling "Curtains? Them's not curtains, just a big bunch of magic malarky!" He drops the box and draws his axe and heads to meet the creature from the circle.
2H Adamantine Waraxe, Power Attack, Haste: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 241d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 6 = 13

I believe Gwen created th curtain. not the professor.
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |
As the curtains fall from the ceiling, the party may or may not be a bit confused.
An officer steps up next to the GM's screen Do you know why I'm pulling you over {squints at Aerondor's gamemaster's license} Mr. Air-On-Door? It's called 'distracted GMing'. Now I need you to step out here and take a move action down this line. ;)
Gwen casts minor image (DC 17) over the area making the ceiling seem to covered in furled stage curtains. She causes ONE of the curtains to fall upon the monster.
She keeps more curtains in reserve if it drags that one off its eye stalks, and doesn't make its save. The goal is to blind or distract it, not us.
If it is her turn again she flips the table on its side for cover and steps behind it while concentrating on her illusion. Move action, 5-foot step, standard action.
EDIT Depending upon how the orb is resting (I think it's just floating) she flips the table so that if it falls it falls toward her.
Hera the Owl |
How big is the orb (as obviously, it is not the same size as the last one)? Encumbrance? Yadda-yada. Tiny, inquiring owls with 1 hp wanna know if they can move it.
GM Aerondor |
Whether or not you believe in the illusion you can make out where the creature is. Yyou just can't see the creature itself if you failed the save.
While the scenario is unclear on the exact sizes and weights of the boxes and spheres I imagine them as large crystal balls. So let us say the confining box is about 1 foot cube, and they weight around ten pounds. Hera can try to move it if she wants. I'm assuming for the moment she has not touched it.
@Titania, so far as you can tell, the man has gone rapidly from curious to terrified.
@Gwen the creature was about ready to attack anyway. You got all the information you could out of it. As for the curtains, unfortunately the illusion works as well on your party as it does on the creature.
The orb is indeed still floating over the desk.?
Urias strikes at the creature, but it twists away from his weapon, flowing around it gracefully. Ironshanks has no such problems, slamming his dwarven waraxe into it with some force. But it feels like hitting a tree.
Gwendolyn flips the desk over, sending papers everywhere. The orb gracefully remains floating in place with Hera nearby.

Grog 23 damage (will DC16 for half and avoid confusion)
Argenta (believes curtains)
Tatiana 11 damage (you can attack Maren if you wish, but it is not obvious that he made the curtains. If you *choose* to believe he made them that is acceptable, but that is a call for you the player)
Maren
Creature -13 damage
Urias 11 damage (believes curtains)
Ironshanks 21 damage
Gwen 11 damage

Ironshanks should be at 11 damage vs 21. Assuming a typo.
"If that old fella is gonna be blastin' our ear drums to all hell then someone's gotta do somethin' 'bout it! Get 'im outta here or crack 'im over the noggin!"

"OR GROG WILL HIT YOU AGAIN!"
I believe it's curtains, and I made them.
Note to everyone too that people casting spells in front of people with spellcraft who aren't somehow hiding their casting that audience members can make rolls to identify the spell. It's not really an action. So if the old guy is casting a spell Gwen, Hera, Argenta, and anyone else with ranks in Spellcraft can identify the act, and maybe the spell with a roll (or a 'take 10' for speed's sake--since there are likely going to be a lot of spells thrown around).
Urias Leogil |
That was close and would have hit me. lol Grog
Grog half orc |
"OR GROG WILL HIT YOU AGAIN!"
What am I doing? Did Zarta get us into a trap? I didn't want to hit this guy?!?
GM Aerondor |
@Ironshanks - fixed.
@All there was a spellcraft roll several posts up for those of you with the skill that would tell you what he cast last round.
Argenda asks Meren real nice, and he obliges with casting a protective spell on her that makes her outline hard to see.
Perhaps that is just as well, as one by one books start coming off shelves and even the hefty desks themselves fly into the air...before hurling themselves in a storm like manner at Ironshanks.
damage: 5d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2, 2) + 5 = 19
All, please remember you are hasted.

Hoping for some healing if possible. My last attack did full damage and I'm in range for a full attack vs stopping to drink a potion. Another barrage of detritus like that and I'm going down. B&@+@+$s on those attack rolls!
Urias Leogil |
