Camil D'este |
Camil nods at Rowan's words, I don't want to know why someone would sneak into a graveyard, but it cannot be good...
Switching back to goblin he addresses the one in the chair ,

For those not doing the interrogation you may shop (no deals but you could name gear that you are looking for and use an interaction school to talk down the price), interact with others in town, visit specific areas in town. Just let me know and we can play them out.
Trunt Zecks |
Trunt pipes up and says, "Maybe ask if there are other goblins hiding in town?"
Lavanor Garavon |
Lavanor decides to leave the interrogation to others, feeling that all of them didn't need to go. While having his breakfast, he asks about junk beach and if anyone has noticed a change in the number of goblins seen there.
After breakfast, he tells the remaining members of the group that he is going to take a look at Junker's Edge to see if the goblins infiltrated the town from the beach.
Runt PbP |
Runt returns to the inn with some colorful scarves, high heeled boots, and some of that stuff called scented shampoo. She spends a couple of hours in the room practicing walking with the boots on.
Though tempted to buy makeup, she passes after being totally overwhelmed by the ridiculous variety and layers and stuff. She comes to the conclusion that one would need years of training just to avoid embarrassing oneself. Even the lip rouge, which seemed simple enough, was a disaster and she attempts to hide the mess behind one of the scarves.
Ironperenti |
Camil continues with the suggestions and asks how many tribes were involved and if any other goblins were hiding in town. The goblin admits to not knowing the answer to either question and seems a bit upset that it could not be of more assistance.
No one has been tracking, at least no one at the inn, any goblins around Junker's Edge. So, Lavanor heads out to explore the cliff to see if goblins had or could make their way into town from that direction. The cliff is sheer and about fifty feet high. Large rocks worn down by the surf dominate the base of the cliff. Right now, at low tide, there is a small gravelly beach between the rocks and the water. It looks as if it would be an extremely difficult climb without ropes. Even so he checks along the edge and finds no evidence of any groups coming up over the cliff. The natural wear the edge gets could naturally hide the comings or goings of a single creature but after looking he thinks it highly unlikely.
Rowan Ellis |
"Well that was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Let's head back to the inn and tell the others what we've learned."
Rowan keeps a mental note of Trunt's suspicious behavior. He would need to pay more attention to the gnome in the future.
Isabella Monstrance |
Having been in town for a while, Isabella takes the tack of heading to the graveyard to see if any of the plots have been disturbed, and to find out if the gravekeeper has seen any goblins.
Trunt Zecks |
Trunt speaks up once more and says, "Ask it how it got into town.
I wonder if there is a tunnel or something."
After a while in the interrogation, Trunt yawns and says, "Well, I think we've gotten everything out of this one that we can. Should we talk to any of the others or just go check out the graveyard?"
Rowan Ellis |
"We should get the others first, then check out the graveyard. If there is a clue to what is going on there, we're more likely to find it with more people investigating."
Wrath of the Silver Claw |
Seeing that the others are able to ask all of the questions he had thought of and more, Wrath decides to go investigate the Old Light. He would try to convince Valtyra to come as well, if she is available.
He would read any runes on the sides of the ruined tower, and if possible he would look for a way inside of it. If the only way in is climbing, he would only try to climb in if it doesn't seem like a hard climb.
Lavanor Garavon |
Lavanor shakes his head after inspecting the cliff. "Unless the little buggers learned how to fly, they didn't come this way." He decides to follow the cliff to the northeast towards Northgate, inspecting the area while he goes. "Maybe they found another way up," he thinks to himself.
Ironperenti |
Does Valtyra join Wrath in an excursion to the Old Light?
Lavanor is moving toward the North Gate when he sees Wrath (and Valtyra?) approaching. They let him know they are headed to the Old Light to check it out.
Does Lavanor join Wrath/Valtyra?
Meanwhile, the crew (Trunt, Camil, Zandril, Rowan, and perhaps Isabella) have asked their questions of the strangely helpful goblin and leave him to his fate to check on his story. As suggested by Rowan, they head back to the Rusty Dragon to see how many of the "Heroes of Sandpoint" are willing to assist in checking on the graveyard. (If you have not specified another location, I assume you are at the Rusty Dragon. If you are not going to the graveyard, please let me know).
Lavanor Garavon |
Lavanor stops when he sees Wrath and fills him in on what he has found (or not found). He decides to join him in searching the Old Light.
"Some company would be nice. Besides, if we actually find something, there is safety in numbers," he says as they head towards the ruins.
I can't tell from the map, is there a path that leads to Chopper's Isle or does the cliff run from Junk Beach to The Old Light?
Valtyra Valdemar |
Valtyra will accompany Wrath to the Old Light. "This is a good idea. Let's figure out what it looks like up close and see those runes for ourselves."
Valtyra won't try and climb the Old Light, but will spend her time looking around at the runes and if there is a possible hidden entrance.

Zandril goes with Rowan and the rest to the graveyard. He stops at the gate and takes a look around before entering.

Ironperenti |
@Lavanor: I'm an idiot. You would have seen them before walking north along Junkers Edge toward the gate. Either way, you are able to look at the Old Light with them.
Wrath, Lavanor, and Valtyra begin looking around the Old Light. It is a gorgeous fall day, particularly with the salty air coming off the bay. The old light stands about fifty or more feet above the cliff side and is built into the cliff extending another 120 feet to the water below. They find the same runes that Quink had mentioned plus they run across a strange seven pointed star (see the north seeking diagram on the map).
Climbing looks like it would be relatively easy the fist twenty feet or so but it is relatively sheer after that. (DC 10 first 20 feet; DC 20 last 30 feet)
Will post graveyard tomorrow. Dug post holes today and I'm pretty tired.
Runt PbP |
I don't see that anyone has returned to the inn yet, so I have not included Runt in anything as of yet. By the way, how much did the clothing cost Runt so I can subtract the gold.
Runt PbP |
Runt stashes her new clothing in her nest and tags along after the others, as usual trailing the main group as if not sure of her welcome.
Isabella Monstrance |
@Isabella: what is the impetus to go to the graveyard? were you present at the interrogation?
Sorry, if the party isn't sharing information, I'll just sit and twiddle my thumbs.
Ironperenti |
@Isabella: It was merely a question of why go to the graveyard. If she is with the interrogation then she knows of the graveyard and is probably one of the first ones to suggest going. If she wasn't then she was most likely hanging out at the inn and again gets told of the graveyard and goes with everyone. I just did not see why she would be going on her own with no prior reason to suspect there had been an incursion into the graveyard.
@all: assuming everyone other than the three at the light are headed to the graveyard. If you wish to do something else, let me know.
@Zandril: Father Zanthus manages all of the groundskeeping but the actual groundskeeper is Naffer Vosk. A former smuggler who was taken in by the previous priest, Father Tobyn, and who found redemption in Sarenrae.
There is a rot-iron fence that forms an archway over the public entrance to the graveyard. It is quiet in the graveyard today with no visitors. Shortly after entering you see the groundskeeper picking weeds. You also notice a freshly dug grave not too far from the main path. However, to the best of your knowledge, none of the townsfolk lost their lives in the attack. Many injuries but no deaths.
Runt PbP |
Runt just figures someone died for some other reason and they are burying him to keep the goblins from eating him. That can be quite disturbing.
Then she takes a second look.
"Well, he might be the one that was supposed to have snuck into the graveyard, or perhaps he would know who did."
She briefly considers questioning him herself, but she still feels a bit out of place and uncomfortable and figures someone else would do a better job.
Valtyra Valdemar |
Looking up at the tower, Valtyra whistles and comments, "I do not want to try and climb that. What we should do at some point is track down a scroll of levitation and use it instead."
She will write down all of the runes she can find, if they are small enough, she'll take rubbings. She will definitely take a rubbing of the star.
Wrath of the Silver Claw |
Wrath frowns when he sees how steep it gets, "You're right, it doesn't look like an easy climb." Wrath watches Valtyra scrawl down and take rubbings of the runes. His attention focuses on the seven pointed star.
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Is this the first time we have seen this star?
Wrath of the Silver Claw |
"It's quite peculiar, isn't it?" Wrath says to Valtyra and Lavanor while staring at the star. He then turns to Valtyra, "Do you think Brodert might know something about it? Either way, until we can get up and into this tower I don't think there is anything else for us here." Wrath pauses, thinking of what they should do next. "I'm starting to wonder how the interrogation is going. Should we go and find the others?"
Camil D'este |
Looking around the group, Camil nods at what Runt has to say and saunters over to the groundskeeper, fanning his face with his hat,
"Morning, hot one huh?" Camil opens jauntily, "Can't imagine a better day to be outside working though. Say, I'm wondering, did anything strange happen that you noticed the other day? Aside from the goblins trying to burn down the town? Anything out of the ordinary here?" Camil finishes glancing around the graveyard, but specifically keeping his eyes off the fresh grave.
Trunt Zecks |
On the walk to the Rusty Dragon, Trunt keeps pretty quiet but comments to the others, "So, it looks like the goblins were just being used, right? I mean, this seems more involved then just some goblins messing around burning stuff."
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Assuming that is enough to notice the new grave, would it be possible to tell the difference between a new grave and an old grave that has been recently disturbed?
Ironperenti |
Those paying attention, notice that the dirt around the newly dug grave is strewn about haphazardly. In no way proper for wanting to refill the same hole after burial. Then Naffer confirms what you suspect when Camil asks him if anything out of the ordinary has happened.
"Anything out of the ordinary?!" Naffer exclaims in response to Camil. Then he points in the direction of the dugout grave, "They dug up poor father Tobyn. What are a bunch of goblins going to do with Father Tobyn's body? Probably not much of it left now anyways. It's totally bizarre. It ain't right."
Lavanor Garavon |
@DM - np. I interpreted that to mean I saw them before starting off towards the gate. Re: Old Light - do we see any openings anywhere?
Lavanor stares up at the tower while Wrath and Valtyra discuss the runes. "The initial climb looks easy enough with all the rubble but higher up could get difficult. Do either of you see a way in?" he chimes in, not having much to say about the runes.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Runt PbP |
"You guys think this might have been a big distraction just to get some old priests body? Was he super powerful or something?"
Runt starts looking around for unusual tracks.
survival tracking: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Zandril Siska |
Zandril looks at the groundskeeper with concern, "Did you see the goblins dig up the grave, or did you come upon it like this after the attack?"
Ironperenti |
"No, I found it this way. I told Father Zantus and then the Sheriff after that." Naffer says. "Say, you all did fairly well the day they attacked, or so I hear. I hobbled behind the nearest building when they showed up. My hip doesn't work like it used to. Shipwreck you know. I recognize a couple of ya. Did I ever tell you about me shipwreck?"
Runt finds some tracks that may be from the day of the attack. They are goblin and faded. She is not able to determine which boot prints of men are from that day. Obviously more than one person has been out here and she is not skilled enough to sort them out.
Runt PbP |
"Any of you good at tracking? I see tracks everywhere but its tough, with how old they are and all, to tell what they were up to besides messing with the grave of course."
Ironperenti |
The goblin tracks lead to the town wall on the north side of the graveyard where she also finds the imprint of what looks to be the two legs of a ladder.
Naffer takes a breath and begins, "Well, it was a dark and stormy night." Then he pauses and gets a quizzical look on his face. "They always start off that way, don't they? But it really was. So there I was with two of my best fellas. We were smugglers in those days. That's my sinful past fer ya. I was born with a little bit of a limp but I was mean back then. Well, my two fellers and me were running some goods out along the coast, aiming to head to Riddleport when a big squall rolled in." Then he hears Runt mention tracking. "What's that? Tracking? Why, that ranger Shalelu just rolled into town. Her and the Sheriff came over and grabbed Father Zanthus for a talk not fifteen minutes ago. I think they was headed back to the Townhall. She could probably track them."
Valtyra Valdemar |
As Valtyra finishes up her rubbings, "The interrogation. I've been hoping looking at these runes would put it out of my head, but it keeps popping back in. I hope they've found something and they didn't do something that would come back to haunt them in their dreams in the middle of the night."
"Yes, let's go back and find out if they've found something out," she smiles wanly.
Rowan Ellis |
"Now that sure ain't good. Why would somebody organize a goblin attack just so they could dig up the body of an old priest?"
Rowan thinks for a minute before saying "You know, I've heard of priests more powerful than me who can talk to the dead. Maybe Father Tobyn had some secret that our mysterious culprit wanted to learn. I know it's a stretch, but it's the only idea I've got at the moment."
When the gravekeeper mentions the ranger, Rowan says "Hmm. I'm a decent tracker, but I'm certainly no expert. I think we should go see if this Shalelu can help us out. Might as well tell the sheriff and Zantus what we've learned while we're at it."
Zandril Siska |
Zandril nods at Rowan, "I agree, let's see if Shalelu can help us out." He turns back to the groundskeeper, "Thanks for your help, Master Vosk. What do you say, when things calm a bit, I buy you a drink and you tell me the rest of that story."
Before leaving the graveyard, Zandril would like to take a look at the dug up grave being careful not to disturb the scene. He'd like to see if he can see any footprints. If he does, he'll take note of the size of the prints.
