maybe 'cause it wasn't always brutal? XD
Which reminds me. Snowball is using Advanced to bridge the gap between age categories xD

sounds like we need GM input. I would be happy to be forced to remake my character in the middle of an adventure if I made him wrong 8 months ago. ;)
i want to remake him anyway
Goldslip
I'm pretty sure GM added that rule after the start of the game. Because for me, at least (and maybe more?), losing the young template was actually a downgrade, even though my CR technically went up by 1.
It was because size Tiny has benefits that size Small does not have.
Sendi
Yeah...for me I can’t tell if it is a downgrade or an upgrade. I lost reach, natural armor, hp/Fort, and my damage die went down. That’s a lot to lose for melee. But I got size AC and Dex, which is really nice. I ended up choosing it under the assumption that overall it was pretty much a wash.
That, and I wouldn’t be a Giant among fey. :p
GM Monster
The young template is a legitimate way to lower your CR. By "young characters" I mean young characters not the young template. Though I admit this is confusing because they have almost the exact same title.
That encounter was pretty rough but you guys earned a lot of XP from it. I've repeatedly run into you guys being super tanky but not very offensive so encounters with defensive monsters are rather boring as you slowly chip them to death. So I figured I'd throw some hyper-offensive enemies who eventually kill themselves at you.
Tina: You'll eventually figure out those are vicious greatswords. Pretty valuable.
Snowball the Dragon
Snowball helps! Snowball can sell shiny!
...to herself... For free...
Sendi
The transition between Gorthug and Sendi should be seamless, given how similar their personalities are.
—-
Sendi should hold up better than Gorthug did on the front lines.
Gorthug HP: 36 (dead at negative)
Sendi HP: 36 (can stabilize, fast healing 2)
Gorthug Saves: 7/4/6, undead
Sendi Saves: 5/15/5, immune mind effecting
Gorthug AC: 18, DR5/bludgeoning
Sendi AC: 37, DR5/- and immune to crits/sneak attack
Gorthug Damage: Melee greataxe +8 (1d12+10/×3 plus level drain) and slam +2 (1d10+7 plus level drain)
Sendi Damage: +17 (1d2+3d6+17)
All in all, she will hopefully not crumble as quickly as Gorthug did, while still providing melee damage.
GM Monster
Word of warning about AC 37, that's super high at this level. After enough time failing to hit you, enemies will try to pin and coup de grace. The super tiny, super high AC route does tend to make things more all-or-nothing.
Sendi
Which is what I expected. It’s how the barbarians caught her! Either that or feints...take away her Dex and she’d drop quickly. Or spells that target her con or hit automatically. Those would disable her pretty fast.
I made her as durable as I could. After Gorthug went down I didn’t want a repeat ;)
GM Monster
It's so surprising that a nice way to make a really strong monster character is to go very small. Oh wait. It's the opposite of that. Very large is also great. Medium is for squares.
GM Monster
I should probably push on but the roleplay is just such gold right now it's difficult to bring myself to cut it off...
GM Monster
Also, Alloura is played by a brief guest appearance from Jamzilla, aka Jamie, aka Ton, aka Percival Ballard, aka GM JZ who I share a few games with, as do several of you. Thanks for popping in, Jamie!
GM Monster
Alloura, can you put some stats in your statline? For instance, I'd want to know if 41 damage would kill you outright, though I'm pretty sure it shouldn't.
Tina, you also need to put essential stats in your statline like AC, hp, cmd, etc.
GM Monster
The crit damage was also enough to kill the drake, who received a lot of negative attention. One thing I did not predict about running a monsters game was that CDG would become much more relevant than normal.
GM Monster
This is gonna be dicey...
Sorry to the confused monsters. This is the big downside to fighting an enchantress. On the plus side, a Cindy vs Goldslip melee match is well worth seeing!
Snowball the Dragon
Cat fight! W000!
more seriously:
can they even hurt each other? XD
edit: neither can pierce the other's DR, haha
Piedmontina Mumblethunder
I just want to say that I'm very pleased that
1: I was able to find some drake lyrics that were thematically appropriate-ish to this round.
2: I figured out a way to avoid getting CDG'd with a scythe
3: I'm able to bring yet another princess into the room. It's one of those episodes where the gang fights evil good different versions of themselves.

what's the situation with Tina now? helpless yet? I'll need to know before I take my next turn.
GM Monster
Yes she's helpless and tied up. She did not get her summons off due to concentration being required to use an SLA while tied up.
Piedmontina Mumblethunder
I forget the drowning rules, but I think Snowball drowning is the only real risk
Sometimes I forget that there are members of our party who need to breathe.
GM Monster
Though Tina's bluffs are fantastic, don't forget to achieve the quest reason you came here. You need a shard of an ancient artifact that was in Alloura's horde.
Also, I'm pleased to see the party isn't having difficulty realizing what custom magic items are for whom. Snowball, increase the dice bc that's more fun and less statistically volatile.
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
Also looks like we're nearing a new CL (less than 2k XP to go)
While waiting for others to post, might make sense to search for good templates, if you're like me and have completely forgotten what you wanted to do next.
Sendi
GM Monster
Haha. That's all Tina wants. Now she just needs to take leadership...
Which I do allow with certain restrictions. For example, you can't have your cohorts take crafting feats and craft for you. Multiple feats+more for the price of one feat? Doesn't seem correct...
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
Yeah I need something that's dark and/or psychic that adds Charisma. All my spells and SLAs depend on Charisma so I def need to boost that up from its current 13, if just for the much better DCs.
The problem I keep having is there are so many good templates for her but they aren't allowed for constructs. I might have to come up with some good valid proposals for the GM to see if I can convince him to negate that restriction.
That'll be this weekend's task methinks.
Piedmontina Mumblethunder
Ooh, Suzerain grants leadership. And if I took it, my leadership score would stand at... ~12, including penalties for aloofness, and maybe cruelty, but we count Last Hill as a base of operations. Not sure how you will count Racial HD in Leadership score.
And is that a blanket +4/+4 for "free-willed followers" within 30 ft (for saves and AC too) I see? Good spot, Sendi.
And it would pump my diplomacy up to a respectable 27.
Much better idea than what I had previously been considering (if anyone wants to steal those):
Drunk + Watchman(AC, greater Teleport, and some nice gaze attacks)
Drunk +Drider(More SLAs, More casting options, and More Legs!)
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
hmmmm...
watchman helps with my slow ass movement speed, those gaze attacks are nice, and it gives me the CHA boost which is the most important thing. It also kind of fits thematically since she had already volunteered to be the cave's lookout and started building that little home just inside the entrance. It's a perfect job for her considering she doesn't look like a sentient being if she's sitting still and staying quiet.
I'm still going to look for anything else that fits Cindy better, but that's a nice catch there!
@GM: For those of us without CON scores, if a template gives a bonus to CON how do we handle that? I assume we just drop that bonus but figured I'd ask.
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
I really like Drider, but it doesn't fit Cindy's emotional/personality growth.
I'm now looking between Watchman (for gaze, movement, CHA) or Dark Tapestry (for CHA, attack avoidance, and the ability to add MADNESS to my attacks and spells...Cindy could start losing touch with reality even more!!!)
Sendi
I’m thinking, due to the fey aspect, of going with Green Warden
It will make give her nature themed SLAs, and will give her leadership that only works with plants, animals, and fey. Which I think is a good mirror to Tina’s kingdom of mortals. I’m thinking that Sendi will have birds, small animals and plants as an intelligence network. They come to her and gossip, which could prove useful
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
I looked at Green Warden due to her connection to The Green Mother having given her a bear, but I noticed that the template is only for plant creatures. You'd have to have GM sign off on allowing it.
I think I like Dark Tapestry creature for Cindy. Can keep the Green Mother connection going, and just have her become that way due to too much connection to the Mother herself as opposed to a connection with some outside aberration.
Would allow me to potentially add the Aberrant archetype to Mr. Snuggles over time as well, since he might be able to acquire it through connection to the not-quite-sane Cindy :D
Sendi
Oh. Good catch. Then I suppose...
Bramble Comes first. I’ll have Sendi plant seeds in the stump of her arm. This will allow her to grow the whip in place of the arm as per the template, and can make a weapon (the gore attack).
That archetype will make her an Augmented Fey Plant Abberation.
From there, she can pick up Green Warden.
While the former isn’t as strong as the latter, I do like the idea of the Sendi’s stump trailing vines which she can use. It won’t do much mechanically, but it will look cool.

Bob needs some alteration, and the biggest reason is that when I switched from ooze orb to ooze cube, I lost all of my dexterity, which made kineticist worthless. I still like the flavor of the mental powers of an ooze, but the stats make it broken.
GM Monster, what would you say about allowing the Obsidian Hat to make my kinetic blasts use Con to hit instead of allowing my melee attacks to use Con to hit? (Kinetic blasts also use Con for damage just being straightforward here).
If you let me do that then I can stay as a kineticist and will operate as a ranged combatant who slowly gets in close to engulf the enemy. This is what I would prefer, since I want to experience the kineticist.
If you want it to stay as melee using Con to hit, then I will probably retrain into a barbarian, or maybe a monk, and will be more similar to the way I've been in the recent battles (paralyzing everyone).
GM Monster
I think the only question actually directed at me was about con scores. A template bonus to con doesn't do anything for you if you don't have a con score.
Yes you can use the hat of destruction for blasts instead. That was what I was planning for it months ago but then your melee ended up being very important. Your decision either way.
Bob's Yer Uncle
|
That's great. If I can do Con to hit, I will happily stay as an ooze kineticist. At level 2 I will be able to take a burn to lift 2,000 pounds so my ability to fix up our fort will be greatly improved. :D
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
@GM:
OK I think I've picked my next template for Cindy, so that I can parse everything before the probably soon levelup:
Dark Tapestry Creature (+ drunk reskinned as "detached from reality" but same penalties)
It's 3PP so I'd need approval but I would like to point out a couple things:
It potentially is overpowered in the defensive abilities, but as I won't get the +6 con, and I'm willing to drop the "regeneration equal to CON score" part altogether as well just retaining my current fast healing 5, I think it's not quite as OP as it seems.
Thoughts?
Also - as Cindy becomes affected by whatever thing in the wilderness is inside her head (and gave her the bear) as evidenced by the new template, I would like to try and add the Aberrant archetype to Mr. Snuggles. It works thematically with her change. The only ability swapped out at this level with that archetype hasn't been used yet so it would have no effect on our current gameplay situation.
Snowball the Dragon
seeing all these hard choices for you guys makes me happy that I'll just be growing up and alternating between advanced and ... regular?
GM Monster
Oh gosh, Cindy. I think the biggest problem with Dark Tapestry is it would change your creature type to abberration! Then your con score would matter. Have we dealt with templates over-writing a previous creature type before? That seems like a mess to have your creature type frequently changing.
Yes I'm fine with adding that archetype to Mr. Snuggles.
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
Well I thought of that, but it changes it to aberration with the augmented subtype of the previous creature...
so I'd be an aberration construct. I think that means that the con score would still be 0?
That's actually the main problem I'm starting to run into. There are very few templates out there that are officially allowed for constructs, and a lot of those that do change the creature type. I'm really only pigeonholed into a very small (and mostly not very useful) set of templates at this point that are construct based.
GM Monster
Yes I've thought of making a rule that bonuses granted by templates, such as natural armor or ability scores, count as "template bonuses" which stack with all other bonuses except other template bonuses. But I haven't made that rule yet.
But what I am fine with here is relaxing the restriction on your number of class levels. That should give you options, Cindy.
Doll #23, also known as Cindy
Thank you for that, but I'm going to have to keep looking if I cannot do that template. Going past lvl 1 in mesmerist is very sub-par until I can get my CHA bumped. Level 1 gave me a lot of good things but running a CHA based class (and having all my SLAs based on CHA) is going to become extremely unwise soon if I continue to run at 13 CHA.
I've always got Watchman to fall back on though. That doesn't change type.
