Seeing the cat try to get away, Bellum snaps his jaws at the creature.

Bellum what has gotten into you.
...then at the Goblin.
The little halfling keeps his smile as he walks towards the goblin, pulling forth a dagger and throws it underhanded towards the spell caster.

Simflay |

Hmm, I gather Simflay was meant to have made another save at the end of her turn to avoid imperial entanglements...
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 whew!
Realizing that nobody else seems to be trying to move back away from the vines, Simflay will stay behind Arc. She sways too and fro for a moment, narrowly avoiding the grasping motions of the vines and then reaches out and taps Arc on the shoulder.

Talia Burrows |

Talia gets to her feet. And then stumbles towards Simflay with a hopeful look for some healing.

bluedove |

Would Bellum get the +5 bonus to his save since we are attacking the caster?
Sorry, no, you've got that a little backwards. Since Bellam was the target of the spell, it only matters if he was being attacked by the caster or his allies. He hasn't had an attack aimed at him yet and the cat withdrew before the spell was cast.
Also the save roll should really have preceded the attack, which would have changed things a bit, but I can keep the attack and count that reflex as your entanglement roll at the end of your turn. Simflay is now the only one not Entangled.Grulyn presses into the thorns, heedless of the scratches he receives and swings at the goblin, missing.
The goblin laughs at the halfling's taunts. "You mean my dog, don't you?" But his mirth is cut short when the magical blade slashes a wide gash open across his face as it turns in it's arc to return to Cade's hand. Next an arrow from Arcallius thumps into his shoulder. He takes a step back and casts a spell on his waiting cat and then orders both his animal companions to attack!
Cat bite vs Cade: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Trip vs Cade: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Bellam bite vs Cade: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 4 = 9
The cat darts around the corner and bites Cade solidly in the calf muscle and shakes viciously, pulling him down off his feet. Bellam whines before snapping hesitantly at his now prone master, but still can't bring himself to make contact.
Cade is knocked prone and takes a further 1 point of damage from landing in the thorns. And everyone is up again!

Simflay |

I gather from the map that Simflay probably can't see the goblin at the moment, so she won't make a Spellcraft roll
Seeing Talia looking injured, Simflay drops her hand to her side and for a moment looks puzzled, as if not finding something where she expected it to be. Then with a gasp that seems somewhere between uncertainty and annoyance, she steps to Talia's side, reaching out her hand and speaking in a strangely breathy tongue that sounds similar and yet different to her usual speaking voice.
"Avoss, Curarea esa omara"
A small gust of wind swirls around the two women and Talia feels a sudden cooling sensation run across the pain of her wounds and some of them close up a little.

Thank you for clarifying that...I was confused..lol
Cade rolls his body to firmly plant his back on the ground. His hands are both occupied with weapons at the moment and he realizes that he needs get up. Grulyn continues to press into the brambles, heedless of the pokes and scratches and swings his axe decisively, opening a large gash on the goblin's shoulder. Simflay heals the wobbling Talia, though her magic seems weak at first, she redoubles her concentration and is gratified to see Talia's wounds look much better.
Boo! There are no 1's in healing. Rerolling for you, feel free to do so yourself next time.
Cade leaps to his feet in a heroic display of panache. His voice resonating with command, he calls Bellam down, demanding the dog obey his true master. The goblin tries to enforce his own order, but seems too concerned with his own safety to put much effort into the attempt. Bellam whines and paws his own muzzle in shame as he stops still as commanded. Cade then skewers the red-striped cat with his rapier, after some witty repartee.
No, I don't give extra multipliers on critical hits. In fact, I think it probably shouldn't have even been a successful crit since you only get one swift action per round and you used it to kip up. That means the menacing swordplay roll should not have happened and you would not have confirmed with a roll of 1. I'll assume it was a mistake and keep the crit this time. But I like to see rolls occur in the proper order and confirmation rolls should immediately follow the crit threat. I will reorder things myself if I suspect you have finessed your rolls. ^_~
Masdok heaves a javelin into the brush and draws another. Arcallius' arrow nearly finds it's mark, but impacts a thorny branch and veers off.
Yes, you're right. We should be using the concealment rules here. Even though they make my head hurt. And my method is High=Good, so that one did miss.
Talia, still smarting somewhat from her wounds, draws her crossbow and loads it in preparation to fire next round.
The goblin steps back from the threatening dwarf and drinks a potion, reclaiming some of his lost health. The cat, incensed by the terrible wound inflicted by the halfling lunges for him again, sinking it's teeth deep and shakes, trying to put him off his feet again. But this time, he proves sure-footed and stays upright.
Cade takes another 8 points of damage! And the party is up! Also, everyone is Entangled. Whee!

Arcallius Vestalis |

I also just thought about the fact that a thing (the brambles) usually provides cover OR concealment. Since there's nothing else between us, I should drop the cover penalty, right? But I also forgot to include the Entangled attack penalty last time, so . . ..
Concealment miss made it all better. <grin>

Cade Goodbarrel |

I try to do all my actions and then adjust for criticals and such after the initial rolls. I have no problem doing the crit confirmation right after the rolls. No problem.
I did state that I was prepared to do some "fancy dodging" in my last post...may I use my dodging panache to avoid the attack. I have played in games where a DM allows it as a follow up and then I have played where they want it as a ready action so to speak. IF yes I would have 4/5 Panache points left then. If no then I am at 8/25 hit points

@Cade, yes, I'm fine with you using reactive abilities like that in response to the event that triggers it. No need to set them up in advance.
Grulyn continues to boldly stride into the prickly brambles, dealing out punishing damage to the goblin with his waraxe. Simflay moves against her entangling bonds and draws a wand. Cade narrowly avoids the cat's teeth and calls for assistance from his friends and faithful dog. Fortunately, it seems the Goblin has moved too far away to call on Bellam any longer and the mastiff continues to obey his master. Masdok launches another of his javelins into the brush to no effect and Arcallius sends an arrow after it. Talia lines up a shot on the cat that wounded her so severely and the bolt lances into the beast's throat.
The goblin wields a flaming sword in one hand and strikes back at Grulyn, searing the dwarf with the strike before taking another step back into the brush. Apologies that I didn't describe the blade before, missed that he's supposed to begin this battle with the spell already cast. Grulyn takes 7 fire damage.
The cat makes one last lunge for the halfling, but is quickly brought down by Bellam attacking from behind, biting down hard on the cat's spine.
And the party is up again!

Cade Goodbarrel |

Cool...OK so I am at 4/5 Panache and 16/25 Hitpoints
Cade smiles at Bellum...

and gives Talia a simple nod of thanks.
Take someone with you and get behind that Goblin and cut off his exit strategy. Make sure he does not escape...he has been backing away from us and he is preparing to rabbit.
Not wanting the dog to have to compete again in a battle of wills, Cade pats the air.

He then moves his way through the brambles and readies the tiny dagger yet again.

Sensing that the Goblin druid is near to breaking with the fall of his feline pet, Cade calls for his allies to cut off his means of escape. Grulyn continues to press after him, stoically bleeding from several minor scratches, he hacks at the goblin again, finding flesh.
Cade's fancy dagger twirls through the air and knicks the druid and he does indeed look ready to run. Fortunately Arcallius has found his aim and launches an arrow that embeds itself deep in the goblin's chest, bringing him down! His flaming blade disappears as he falls where he stands.
We are out of combat!
Soon the brambles relax and cease their entangling grasp. Looking over the goblin's possessions, you find 2 potions of cure light wounds, two wands, a small set of leather armor and a cloak, both of which both detect as magical, as well as a small sling and a spear.

Grulyn Ironfoot |

Seeing the goblin fall, Grulyn's blood lust fades. He steps out looking at the rest of the group. Seeing cade in such bad shape with blood running from many wounds from the cat attacks. He rushes over to Cade placing a hand on the wound and calls apron the power of Torag to heal his small companion.
Lay on hands: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 points healed.
Hanging his head down he says "Sorry me friends it is the ancient hatred of me peoples that gives me tunnel vision sometimes." looking up he looks around
"Does anyone else need some healing? Cade, me thinks that little goblin might have some gear that would be yer size, no offence to ye."

Arcallius Vestalis |

The young archer moves towards the fallen foe, gathering the arrows that he can. Once he gets there, he casts Detect Magic and begins examining those items which stand out.
Spellcraft Wand 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Spellcraft Wand 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Spellcraft Armor: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Spellcraft Cloak: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Wow, those rolls are kinda bad . . ..
After a few minutes, he holds up the second wand. "I think this is a Wand of Tree Shape. The armor, cloak, and other wand are also magical, but I'm really not sure how. I would assume the two are protection magics, of course, but I can't properly tell."

Cade Goodbarrel |

Thank you kindly Master Dwarf. The more severe wounds have been healed and I think I can handle the bruising that remains.
Cade smiles widely as the healing magic mends his wounds.
When the talk of his sizes comes about.
No offense taking...my size is what most people see and more often than not that is there mistake. Depending on the power of the armor, I could fit into it. Again depending on the power. My chain shirt is well crafted and provides much protection.
He moves and pats Bellum on the head
How are you feeling there boy? Better?
He walks over to the dead goblin.
Let us take what we need and leave it for the animals to make a meal of.

Talia Burrows |

Simflay looks over all the magical items, trying to understand what it is that Arc was seeing.
"Oh, I see what you are saying Arc. That wand has magic in it that lets you turn yourself into a tree. That seems like an odd thing to want to do. The other one seems like there is something similar in its style of magic, but it lets you create flame in your hand to use as a weapon. The tree wand seems almost tired, like it doesn't have much magic left in it, but the other one looks like it has lots. And you're right about the armor. There is a magic on it to make it protect the wearer better. I don't know what to make of the cloak though."
Having said that, Simflay will reach out and touch Talia with her own wand. A pale white glow flows into the half-elf, healing some of her wounds.

Where to now?
Looking north from the clearing, you see a rickety bridge. A rope bridge spans the gulf between the cliff and a roundish, flat-topped island sixty-some feet to the north. Thick patches of nettles and briars grow here and there atop the island, but its most impressive feature is a wooden one-story stockade. Two thirty-foot-tall watchtowers guard the stockade’s southern facade. The rope bridge itself is made of hairy rope and thick wooden planks; the whole thing creaks and sways in the wind above the churning surf eighty feet below.

Talia Burrows |

Talia gives Simflay a grateful smile as healing floods through her.
"The incestuous creep said the bridge was rigged, plus it's Goblin made anyway so it will most likely collapse if someone farts on it. Let me check it out first."
She slips as stealthily as she can up to the rope bridge, avoiding the view of any guards.
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
perception trap finding on the bridge: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Bellum |

Bellum lets his nose slowly drop to the ground.
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Trying to see if there is a common path that they take across the bridge or in a totally different direction.

Arcallius Vestalis |

"Anybody want to use any of these items? Cade? Do you want to try the leather, or are you good in your metal shirt?" If nobody wants any of the items, or offers to carry anything specific, Arc will try to stow them in his pack for now.

Sorry folks, we're having a period of pretty serious inclement weather in my area and both power and internet have been spotty.
Sorry I was thinking that there was a ring that was up for grabs. It was on my D&D 5E game, it happens when you're old and get confused easily. LOL
Actually, there is a ring of protection up for grabs. Masdok was carrying it, I mentioned it on discussion.
Talia can easily see that the rope bridge is rigged so that the western supports will tear free if too many bodies try to cross at once, dropping the planks down to hang vertically from the eastern rope and dumping any unsuspecting souls 80 feet into the surf below. She suspects she can stabilize it with a little work, (Disable Device DC 15) or the group could simply cross a few at a time to avoid triggering the hazard.
Masdok decides that he will guard the bridge on this side to prevent any goblins from following after you. He removes Tsuto's ring and hands it to Grulyn. "I'll wait here a while and then head back to Sandpoint. I'm worried about Ameiko."

Talia Burrows |

"Ok folks, the bridge is rigged to drop if too many cross on it. Give me a moment and I'll make it steady enough for a Dwarf to walk on."
Disable device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 My big mouth!
Disable device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Disable device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 What the hell is going on with the dice roller? It's been hammering me for days!
Pretending her first attempts were just her testing the workings Talia eventually gets the bridge stable.

Simflay |

I wouldn't mind Simflay getting a boost to her AC if the ring is going begging. However, if anyone in the front line wants it they should definitely be further up the list than her.
While Talia is working on the bridge, Simflay will cast an eye around her companions, checking to see if anyone still needs any healing.
Feel free to raise a hand if your character needs some healin' :)
If everybody seems ok, she will instead concentrate on watching across to the island, keeping an eye out for any foes on the lookout.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Obviously, Perception isn't her strongest skill :)

There does not seem to be any movement or watchers across the bridge that you can see. Oddly enough, the door to the keep is ajar. You will likely be able to slip in on whomever is inside, provided you don't call too much attention to yourselves.
Other half of map is posted. Your tokens are at the bottom for you to place as you move over the bridge. Be sure to roll stealth if you are using it. You aren't in the water, despite appearances to the contrary. XD

Grulyn Ironfoot |

Grulyn will raise his hand for healing.
Saying his good byes to Masdok. Grulyn watches him leave. He turns to the group and asks "Masdok has gifted us a magic ring of protection. Me armor is very strong. So if one of ye who gets hit a lot need it, please take it or I will put it on."

Talia Burrows |

I'd say give the ring to Simflay. It pays to keep your healer safe. :)
"Let me sneak ahead and see if there is anyone waiting for us?"
Talia will stealth ahead by 20' and signal if she sees anyone needing dealing with.
She slips across the bridge and approaches the gate with her ears pricked for any sound.
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Cade Goodbarrel |

Smiling brightly at the Dwarven Paladin.
Agree Maaster Dwarf, it would be best given to someone that is not as sturdy as you or mobile as myself.
Cade nods as Talia moves across the bridge.
We will move across when you give the all clear.

Arcallius Vestalis |

Okay, it looks like Simflay gets the ring. Cool. Did everyone who wanted healing get the help they needed? I see Talia's stats still show her at 3 HP!

Grulyn Ironfoot |

Do we have a wand of CLW? If not Grulyn will use his lay-on hands to heal some of Talia's wounds and save some of Simflay's spells.
"Here ye go lass, this ring will help keep ye safe from harm." And hands Simflay the ring.
