Around Christmastime I came down with multiple viruses that left me able to only do two things: 1) Cough, and 2) wish I wasn't coughing.

They also had a pretty good symbiosis worthy of a Magic counter-burn deck: The headache from the cold wasn't that bad...except when I coughed.

I can finally start to see the beginning of the end from here so I thank all of you for your patience and promise to start getting caught up soon.

IMO, the weakest part of this adventure is this specific part - because what group of adventurers want to return to somewhere from where they just escaped? But it is what it is, and it does get better.

It's a pretty ridiculous ask yes. @GM Can we get creative with how we go about this as neither Leosin or Nighthill are offering resources to do so or would it be best to just say game logic and go with it.

I know my question is kinda spoilerish but believably no character is going to try the same plan that failed twice.


Game logic to some extent, yes, but you're also assuming the camp is as it were when you left, and it's been a few days in game. Your plan wouldn't be the same if the circumstances changed. Always glad to hear creative solutions though if you had something specific in mind?

Well it's obviously a rogue-like plan...

We know the Cult's main objective has been to obtain a hoard of treasure. We didn't see any mounds of gold lying around the camp so I/Eska is assuming it would be in the cave system.

So Trojan horse this get a carriage full of loot and present it to them using smuggler (obviously we can't waltz in but a neutral party might be welcome enough to pay "tribute"). The 5 of us would be hidden in the carriage while the driver and escort make the deal displaying a convincing enough amount of loot.

Dragon cult accepts and bring us into the cave system.

The smugglers in mind would be Mayna and her crew as they are not affiliated with the heroes nor know for their sympathies for the townsfolk for a convincing share of the reward money upon our arrival back at Greenest and a stipend up front as well as not having Eska and co. drive them out of town. Mayna delivers us to our enemies and makes a massive payday its a win-win-win.

The mayor could be shaken down for Rakuze's share of the Leosin reward that he didn't have to pay and Eska is willing to donate her money to the cause as well for this display. Especially since they aren't dedicating man-power to this endeavour.

The only problem is I don't see Arianna agreeing to this plan. She doesn't trust Mayna and her crew and I'm pretty sure that they'd happily slit her throat if they can do it without causing them any long term harm.

Too tired to try and think of a way around it at the moment. Maybe something will come to me tomorrow.

Nice plan Eska but where do you expect us to hide in said wagon. To build something with secret compartments to fit us all would take more than a week to be honest. Also does the town even have that horde of gold? To fill a wagon would be alot.

I was imagining something more enclosed like a carriage or a trailer(?) with a false back/divider or ye old fashioned crates which in fact wouldn't be too difficult. We wouldn't need an entire wagons worth of gold just enough to flash and look impressive plus we have illusion magic. I mean we would be hiring thieves to do a thieves job I think it's manageable.

Gave this plan a little more though we wouldn't need a swimming pool amount of gold. we can pad the wagons (we would need at least 2) with other bulkier resources i.e food drink, supplies. The gold would still be a buy in and again a lot of it to be convincing enough. Team would be hiding in crates (not for the entire journey just till we get close enough) and hopefully brought to the treasure hoard.


Eska, give me a Persuasion check as well.

Yea crappy roll for all that planning. Can we take best of consodering it should be an assist?


I know how I'd feel as a player if a well thought out plan went to waste because I rolled poorly. Met rolled half decently but perhaps not well enough alone. Just going to see if James or Brax want to attempt to be persuasive here - though they may not be as inclined to do so as Eska was with her shady connections and all ;) I'm thinking the 'Work Together' rules could apply here.

Yeah, I like the 5E assist rules, since anyone can say they are "assisting" and the player gets Advantage.

That's what I was about to do but Ari can roll well on command so its not needed. ^_^

Sounds like that we're going with the wagon idea? Pad a wagon with goods, hide in crates until you get to the entrance to the cave system, and go from there? With Mayna and perhaps one of her henchman leading the smuggling into the camp?

Yea pad a wagon or two with goods and us hiding in a couple of the crates when then time comes. Mayna will be the face but we'll also have Met-Anoi out there as well to keep her honest and make sure things are gonig as planned as he's not noted as one of the Heroes.

Ideally they will bring the wagons into the camp and hopefully to the treasure hoard

Greenest is a small town, and I could see it being hard to come across healing potions given the recent raid and recovery. I think one potion per PC is fair. Let me know if will be buying one.

Is Eska paying for Mayna's costs independently? ;) Or are you guys all pitching in? Believe it was 175 upfront, 175 afterwards.

Cool, And I don't think the GM took anything out for the materials I used for Stormfang and its sheathe. So that's almost 200 gold for Arianna when she has a chance to bow a nice bow with.


Clarifying here: Mayna knows what she agreed to, she's just being herself. I also wanted to not just dump us to the destination without letting PCs react if they wanted to.

Hey DM, have you considered doing group initiative for small numbers?

And it could just be for the enemies. That is to say, that if both bad guys had gone at the same time, then the whole party could go, and that might save time.

Jus' sayin'.


Any objections to that? I could see the enemies gaining an advantage by being able to act together, but the party also all being able to act together might negate that. Yeah, sure, we can do that. What would qualify as 'small numbers', though? No more than 2 enemies? 3?

Back in town, by the way.
