True... that said, perhaps a role call of some sort is in order? It has kinda felt like there are fewer folks present than there should be to me.
I know that Zero was on vacation recently and should be back soonish... Yaz has bowed out... Daniel, Lefty, me have posted in the recent time frame... anyone heard anything from Tobar?

Try other places in town, or revisit places and see if you missed something.
I did. And there was no response.
We want less shadowrun and more pathfinder, I believe. Less legwork, more direction.
We're not allowed to do magic, because someone might see and kill us.
We cannot talk to people, because we might say something wrong and people will kill us.
We're not allowed to sit around and observe, because nothing will happen. And someone will kill us for being suspicious.
You see, how we feel? Is that your intention?

Tobar Palar |

I don't mind leg work and I'm sure that I'm just missing something but I'm just not seeing any threads to really pull on.
I think that all the characters have to come together, compare notes, and come up with something approximating a plan.
Because right now I'm seeing an impregnable fortress with no real way in.

Valessa Bareth |

We always have the non-stealthy option of frontal assault. Mind you, not advocating that... yet... but it would be closer to Valessa's strong suits if nothing else.
The only thing I can think of that we would need to do is ensure we all get past the gate before the seal it.

You can do magic, just think things out to minimize people thinking it is magic, examples where it would be next to impossible to think someone is casting a spell;
* Casting the spells in your private rooms, silent spell will stop any over hearing, or character could just speak softly to also reduce being overhearding through the door or walls
* group together in a noisy place and put the casters that'll cast against the wall so their movements are hindered from view by other party members. The loud noises if there is enough people will drown out the words or the spell especially is spoken softy.
Silent spell and Still spell make it even harder to see magic is being cast.
You can talk to people, just talk carefully and get an idea of where the NPC's head is at before being more open,
Sense motive is King
and I will say there is one watcher you do need to watch out for.
Staying at a place where there are known watchers and waiting for one NPC there is not a wise move, and I believe you got the hint the Owner didn't like the watchers at his place of business, yet you did nothing to get rid of them even temporarily..
And there is a very simple and subtle answer to that one problem.
There is a reason Perception, Sense motive, Bluff and Diplomacy are skills that are king when visiting an spot for the first time.
Valessa seems to of gotten it down, using sense motive to see if it is wise to stay, like at Graden's, if she tried haggling their prices down and failed the diplomacy check they would of auto-refused and reported her to the baron as suspicious, because they are xenophobic racists and unfriendly toward everyone.
Smaar Janderfut was found to be a friend and provided some info, but might know more if you ask the RIGHT question(s)?
(you don't have the needed knowledge fragment to ask it yet).
There are those who are neutral, those that'll help you and those that'll undo you, you have to find out first where the NPC's head is at before you say or do certain actions or you might tip off one that'll undo you.

There are 14 places on the map, you just visited a few so you might be missing a piece somewhere you visited or you picked dud places for knowledge fragments.
Also certain places are better with certain classes, so just because someone visited a spot doesn't mean it was the best person to visit the spot to get information.

Lothorian Sativa |

I'm out. I've been excited to start a new game with a new character before, and watched it fall apart plenty of times.
What's unique about this game is that, along with the glacial pace, I've been trying to play it for 3 months and I haven't done a damn thing.
This game sucks. Bye.

Valessa Bareth |

Well... that just happened. Sorry to see you go, Lothorian... and sorry that the game didn't keep your interest to see it through.
I am still interested in trying to play this out, but as folks leave it does become harder to do (especially given the scenario premise doesn't really allow for replacements).
I have my own concerns but I will be sending them to you via PM.

Tobar Palar |

I think that this is pretty much EXACTLY the problem I'm having.
She goes into a place which really doesn't seem like it would advance the mission, if she fails a check she gets seriously dinged, if she makes it she gets to haggle.
It feels like you're running a free form roleplaying session where PCs just have fun and we're trying to accomplish a military commando mission. I'm just not seeing why, in character, I'd remotely think going into a random building and chatting with the proprietor has anything to do with what we're trying to accomplish. From my point of view it seems all risk and no gain.
It's probably just clashing expectations. Perhaps you could explain why, in character, you expect us to think that talking to shopkeepers is actually going to help.

DM Azure_Zero |

There are a few spots where you'd be reported if you do certain actions, Graden being one of them, one report early in the mission might not catch as much attention to security, but about 3 or more might raise a flag about you and or the group.
To start with no problems chatting, just say Hi ____ simple quiry/question (i.e. I how are you?), then roll a sense motive check and you'll know if they are with you or not.
To counter any unwanted ears that might be listening you can use bluff and sense motive checks to do simple secret talks, like Valessa did with Smaar the Smith.
The only problem you'll have is the Spy that is in town going everywhere, hidden from public eyes, so talking near exclusively with one NPC might start raising Flags about that one NPC, and each useful NPC only has a simple incomplete fragment you'll need, though one NPC, Not Jasmine, has a lot of info if you can Bargin it out of them, as they are with the Baron.
Another reason to talk with folks is to find out who'll help you if things go south i.e hide you if you are put on the arrest list.

Daniel Beatty |

One reason to talk to all the businesses in town is that we know there are friends here, we just have to find them. They have the mistletoe sprigs. We found one but they had guards. We need to find the other and find a time we can talk to them.
I am starting to get the opinion that social adventures are not the best to run on the boards. I'm running what is essentially a murder mystery and it is dragging. Not as slow as this one but much slower than I'd like. I think non social characters may feel left out and aren't "pushing" the game along like any good pbp needs.

Tobar Palar |

I'm sorry, but I'm finding the pace of this game is sufficiently slow that I'm just finding it hard to maintain interest.
I actually quite like social roleplaying but I guess I like it to be a little more directed. Conversations about baking bread just don't interest me.
I think that I'm going to bow out of this game.
Good luck everybody

Valessa Bareth |

... so now we are down to 3. I will be honest, I was a bit concerned about being able to finish this with 4.
I am not bowing out... but I do think it prudent to take a moment to see what our way forward is going to be (especially given the scenario doesn't really lend itself to us getting reinforcements, so any re-recruiting to replace folks wouldn't impact this mission barring GM fiat).
Daniel, Zero (and of course DM Azure) what are your thoughts?

Daniel Beatty |

I'm still in this. I'm trying to get my head around the character and his being undercover a bit. I'm basically wandering the town looking for allies and trying to figure out who may be neutral and against us.

Valessa Bareth |

Can't honestly remember how that would be possible (I was under the impression that once the gates were sealed we would be on our own, so unless the replacements get written in as townsfolk on our side... or folks that happened to be visiting prior to the gates falling...) but I will take your word if there is a plan.
That said, if both of you are still game to play I will play as well.
Probably want to slow play it while recruitment is going on though. We wouldn't want to suddenly have all hell break loose with just the two of us.

Valessa Bareth |

Dorian is approaching my way, estimated to be coming through tomorrow. Should not be an issue, I am not in a major flood zone, but if I am suddenly quiet for a bit that is possibly why.

DM Azure_Zero |

Thanks for the Heads up,
Just pray Murphy's law and his gremlin minions don't give you a surprise.

Valessa Bareth |

Well, knocking on wood but it seems to have passed us with not too much damage. We got a decent amount of rain and the winds caused us to lose power for about 5 or 6 hours (not too bad restoral times under the circumstances) but we are back up and running again now. Thanks for the well wishes.

Drannor Lucaryn |

Hey all, I am glad everyone was mostly unscathed by Dorian and Humberto decided to miss us all together. Hopefully no one was a part of Imelda?
Lastly, I am really happy to be aboard!
~Anderlorn

Drannor Lucaryn |

Is there anything you want me to change or add to my character? Thank you!

Valessa Bareth |

1) Thank you and welcome. Have to say that I was hoping for at least one more person though.
2) How are we handling departures and gains on game?
3) Daniel, you have any ideas on getting rid of the guards quietly? Valessa's way would be to start swinging with her sword.

Drannor Lucaryn |

Thank you!
Yeah, too bad the others were too set on one class or PRC, then walked away when they were denied.

Valessa Bareth |

I understand. I am sorry that the game never really took off beyond our insertion. I am also sorry to you, Drannor, that you never even got to post outside of the discussion tab.
Take it easy y'all.
