if appears to these are schematics for some kind of communication device. He isn’t any kind of inventor, so where did he get an idea for this?

Brass:
The closest Brass can tell, he's trying to build a device to read li-fi transmissions. Definitely not from 1968. Li-Fi Cannons are sometimes used to communicate through interstellar portals.

"Well, this is totally unexpected! I think that I need backup"

Vonash will contact the others on the communicators

"Uh, my plan was a bust. Maybe Lee is sneaking into the pool. The pool which has been closed for some time. Sneaking may not be the right word as he has a key. I'm not good at the stealthy stuff so I think at least some of you need to get over here. Please"

Brass studies the plans then his eyes grow wide as it dawns on him what this is. This isn’t just any communication device, but a li-fi device to review transmission through interstellar portals. Someone is manipulating this man. . As he finishes vonash’s transmission comes over the communicator asking for backup.

We should help her, I don’t think she’s very safe in her own. Care to help our wilderness friend?

"I cannot say that I am particularly sneaky, either, but yes, I am more than ever curious what Lee is up to, and an abandoned pool may be as good a place as any to confront him." Jade looks at the plans. "Do you think we should take those with us? I know we do not want to leave much of a trace but obviously they are not something that Lee should have... I do not want him building that device."

The waitress smiles and promises to be right back with the Rheingold, but says she knows nothing about art. "We show students work though here" and points to the walls.

Very clever. Someone would have to make a DC 36 Engineering check to make something out of this now.

She seems to actually like Milo. You don't sense that she's lying. Some of the art on the walls has been there years and is quite dusty. Tags with prices on them are in different handwriting.

The waitress did not have a nametag, but you hear someone call her Ariane.

Ariane returns with the beer fairly quickly.

Does Milo or Carson want to question her further?

It's going to take time for Jade and Brass to cross town to catch up with Vonash at the pool house.

At the pool house, Lee looks back and sees Vonash. Although she doesn't look threatening, he does notice her alone in this corner of campus. When he enters the pool house Vonash can hear him lock the door behind him.

Male EAC:15 KAC:17 |HP:18/18 SP:14/14 RP:5/5 |Fort:3, Ref +4, Will+3 |Init +8 Per+2|Hunting Rifle+7, 1d10 6/6 /45 Soldier 1

I erased all the different voltages in the schematic, only an advanced electrical engineer could figure out how to build this now. brass then speaks into the comm unit
Vonash don’t worry back up is on the way

When he bumps into Ariane again, M'ilo will make small chat, ordering another drink for himself. "Anything exciting happening in town? My buddy and me just transferred up from down south, and we wanted to see what the local scene was like around here."

Female N Lashunta Mystic (XenoDruid) Wild Warden 1 | Active Conditions: None | SP 12/12, HP 14/14, RP 4/4 EAC 11. KAC 12 | Fort -1, Ref +2, Will + 6 | Per +5 (low light), Sense Motive | Speed 30 ft | Telepathy 30 ft

Vonash will try and find somewhere where she can lurk while watching the door and not being seen. Somewhere in some bushes would be ideal.

Milo & Carson:
Ariane pauses, obviously busy but interested, and answers. "There isn't much of a scene in Ogden. There's an 'post-exam bash' in the quad tonight and a poetry open mic tonight here."[b]

She pauses as a woman in a paint-covered man's shirt and shorts walks through the room and waves to her with paint-covered fingers. [b]"Hi Kushkins!" Ariane says to the young woman and, then, seeing you looking at her adds, "And, some of us are painting signs for the sit-in at the Ogden Housing Office. We don't want ads on the campus noticeboards from landlords who won't accept black tenants but the university says it's a community service that they don't censor free speech."

Kushkins disappears into the washroom.

random chatter:
From around the room you hear:
"... when am I going to need to know what Durkheim wrote about suicide ..."
"... can't believe I got 53% in Astronomy ... Astrology ... whichever... I'm so bummed out."
"... four air force jeeps burning rubber up Steincross road ..."
"... she's choice and pretty groovy too, but Janis is still my true love ... "

These events take place 51 years ago today, April 18th.

"Well maybe I can help out with painting signs. Give them some color, something to draw attention to'em and get the message to the man, you know what I mean? Put those art history classes to use!" M'ilo takes a sip of his beer. "Maybe you can introduce me to Kushkins? Looks like she's been leading the charge with all that paint."

I think that might require a Bluff check not to raise suspicion.

bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"Kushkins can introduce herself," says the waitress suddenly losing interest in Milo and Carson. "You can take your drink out there though. I'll find you later."

While Jade and Brass leave Lee's house and walk towards the university to provide Vonash with some backup a man in a lumpy black winter coat gets into a car. The car does a quick u-turn so as to head in the same direction as Jade and Brass are walking, draws near, and slows. The man in the passenger's seat stares at Jade and Brass for a few seconds before the car speeds off.

BTW, since you are heading towards campus, you're also in the direction of Milo and Carson who are at the pub on campus.

Milo and Carson:
There are a few people painting out on the patio. It is around 50 degrees F, so most are wearing jackets. Most are painting words on signs. Sophia Kush is painting a building wearing a blindfold. The building says "Housing Office" on it.

Carson:
Carson notices lots of unusual things including 3 underage drinkers and 7 health code violations. One or two of these kids are definitely high. He doesn't notice anything suspicious or possibly mission related.

Some things never change. Carson thought to himself.

Milo and Carson:
To be clear, when I say that "Sophia Kush is painting a building wearing a blindfold" I don't mean that Sophia Kush is wearing a blindfold or that she's painting an actual building. Just a sign, with a building wearing a blindfold. She's being metaphorical.

One of the young men on the patio strums on the guitar and sings under his breath.

M'ilo will wait until Sophia is back at her sign before walking up. "Justice is blind, and everyone else should be too. I dig it," he comments to Sophia and holds out a hand. "Milo Harmon. And you are?"

Sophia shakes Milo's hand, which is now purple, the same color as the sky behind the Housing Office in the painting. "Pleased to meet you, Milo. I'm Sophia."

Feel free to ask her a couple of questions at a time and I'll paste her answers in. With that Diplomacy check, she isn't feeling interrogated.

Finding a good spot to keep an eye on Mask and his conversational companion, Troubleshooter kept an ear to the crowd for any local gossip that may be of further use.

"... can't wait to get out to the lake. Bob's coming back from ... ."
"... Why would the Air Force need jeeps? You mean the Army ..."
"... you dig more Edie Sedgwick or Twiggy?... "

Carson learns that most of the exams are over. Only a few students are still on campus as most of the classes are done. The dorms are closing soon for the summer and the students have had to vacate the premises. There are few parties happening tonight some of which are starting out here at The Hierophant.

Brass picks up the pace jogging now, his face a frown. Things do not seem good, we may be facing someone who is far more ready for us than anticipated.

We've had a holidays and lots of events. Let's help Milo out. Maybe Milo's character is bashful and needs some helpful suggestions on what to ask Sophia. What should he ask her everyone?

Again, my apologies for going AWOL. If it's alright, I'd assume Ueda went with Vonash--he'd probably be interested in checking out the house, but wouldn't want anyone having to be on their own, either. And he's stealthy enough to tag along out of sight... hopefully.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Might be enough.

Ueda had followed Vonash and maybe-Lee, maintaining a good distance and trying to look inconspicuous and uninterested. He stopped to look in store windows, retie his shoe, and generally keep uninteresting and far back; eventually, he was really just tailing Vonash, relying on her to tail Lee.

When they reach the campus and the apparently abandoned pool, Ueda likewise hangs back until their man has entered the building. At that point, he walks up to Vonash and squats beside her, his eyes on the door. "More than a little unusual. Waiting for the others would perhaps be wise, but letting him go about business unseen seems more risky. I believe some reconnaissance is in order."

With that in mind, the android creeps up to the building, moving low but quickly enough, and tries to peer in through any windows there might be. If there aren't any, he'll try the door--first with his hand, and then with his tools.

As far as questions for Sophia go... maybe start small and friendly. How long she's been in town? Where'd she learn to paint so well? What are they protesting, anyway? Oh really, that's interesting, are there a lot of protests here?...

Ueda sees flickering from the darkened pool house through the dirty glass windows. The windows of this pool house are high off the ground, allowing some light into the pool house, allowing hot humid air to escape, and providing swimmers with privacy. It's a good design but intended to dissuade people from peering in. The place is clearly out of use. The entranceway has windows at a normal height however. A sign of the door directs swimmers to the new swimming pool in the gymnasium. Ueda can't see Maybe-Lee in the room just beyond. The door is bolted shut, but he's able to force the lock on one of the windows. The smallest of you could get through the space provided and unlock the door.

Peering through a window, can Vonash see well enough to use Psychokinetic hand to open the bolt on the door?

Absolutely.

The bolt is a sturdy metal one and makes a bit of noise when it is slid to allow the poolhouse door to open, but there's some noise coming from inside that would cover it. From beyond the entranceway comes a cackling electrical whine.

Ueda does his best to survey the situation, but even with his improved senses, the windows are too dirty and too high up to see much. "Always small things, isn't it?" he murmurs, turning to Vonash. With a sigh, he pulls some tools from his bag, and sets to work on the window's latch. The mechanism is primitive compared to his usual experience, but not altogether unfamiliar. Benefits of a misspent youth. When the lock gives, he quickly stows the equipment and gently pushes the window open, just enough that someone might squeeze in.

About the moment he contemplates who should do the honors, Vonash reaches out with her telekinetic ability and slides the bolt on the door. Ueda blinks as the metal squeals, but gives her a silent nod. "Certainly."

As he steps beside the door, the android sees Jade and Brass approaching, and gives them a brief wave before placing a finger to his lips. Slowly, carefully, he opens the door, hoping to peer inside and slip in if there's anywhere to hide.

While none of you have been seen, you also cannot see what is going on inside the pool area without entering the building. You can hear different noises something that sounds like music--a heavy grinding kind of electronic music that seems a little out of place in 1968--and then you hear something that sounds like a voice shouting over the sound of heavy machine gun fire and then more music.

The noise from within covers any sounds you have made so far.

The pool is accessible beyond the lobby area that you are standing in; this is not a large gymnasium, just a small pool house. Doors coming off of the lobby also lead back into what are marked as change rooms. From the way the sound is carrying, you can guess that the change rooms also have doors leading to the pool area.

From the pool area, you hear a muffled and echoed noise ... something that sounds like it is supposed to be music.

You are from over 200 years in the future and from a very different world. Recognizing this music you're hearing in 1968 is from a future decade would be a DC 18 Culture check.

"I believe the evidence now points decidedly to the involvement of another individual capable of traveling through time. And, moving on the turn, Fat Chucky leading by two and half lengths folllowed by Artemis in second and Warlord moving up into third ..."

You can see the pool through the half-open doorway leading from the entrance to the pool. It's empty with some litter in the bottom. The man you saw with the backpack is kneeling in the center of the empty pool, facing away from you, fiddling with multiple dials on a large metal box that looks like it used to be radio but is now bristling with antennas. As he adjusts the knobs the voice from the radio becomes clearer and louder but, suddenly, it switches. Music begins to play.

Maybe-Lee whines loudly, "Oh, man! One more minute and I would have had it ..."
