The knight you rescued coughs, his neck raw where the rope was digging into it. Despite his injuries, he is quite grateful. "Thank you for rescuing me," he says hoarsely. "My name is Hernan Entetior, junior knight of Ozem. If only you had been here earlier, we might have averted tragedy! Several assailants dressed in crow masks and feathered coats assaulted the way station a few hours ago. They overwhelmed us--we weren’t expecting an attack coming from the direction of Vigil! These intruders set fire to the barracks and its adjacent wooden wall. The group kidnapped the way station’s commander, Doeswen Aubry, and most of them left. The leader of the attackers—a female gnome with purple hair—told a red-robed woman staying behind to make the attack look like an orc raid. Shortly afterward, a brawny orc and three shambling undead creatures arrived. The five of them started rearranging the bodies, setting additional fires, and so on. I pretended to be dead until I could slip away, but the orc tied a noose around my neck and hung me from the wall! I would have been strangled without your intervention."

”Aishe? Maybe you can help me find some tracks?”
How big is the station? Do we need to search it?
Aishe Danior |
"Ayep." Aishe responds, though it's not immediately clear who he's responding to. But while the others search the remaining chamber, he'll put away his crossbow and start sniffing the grounds for tracks, seeing if he can get a lead on where they may have taken Doeswen Aubry.

Well, the guards were wearing high hard boots and she was probably wearing some fluffy slippers. I found soft slipper prints!!!

There is a little to search in the waystation due to the mess. A few more clues and gear to be found and some of the waystation tower left to uncover.
"If these three are dead again, then it should just be the red-robed woman and that brawny orc if they are still around here." He shakes his head. "I think I can find my way back into town if you don't need any help here." His voice shakes a bit.
Atium and Aishe look for any sort of tracks. There are several around the area that the fight took place but none that seem to leave the waystation. It looks as if someone was covering their trail.

If Vanyan is sure the knights will make it back safely, he will see them to the door.
"Do make sure your report gets to both Ceto Malderra and the local Venture Sergent of the Pathfinders, won't you?" Vanyan queries politely not at all dickishly. "They probably need to know most of all of the undead menace."

Above on the battlement near where Aishe stands is the pile of equipment that the wights were piling together. The wights have piled loot stripped from the knights here. This heap includes seven masterwork breastplates, seven heavy steel shields, seven longswords, seven composite longbows, and a total of 280 arrows.
In the room below a shattered double door leading north hangs open, revealing a room illuminated by a faint glow from a neglected fireplace. An overturned desk stands among a sea of paper, splintered wood, and some kind of slick substance covering the stone floor. A damaged armoire stands against the west wall, its clothes heaped nearby.
The goo covering the floor here is exceptionally slippery as Atium slides across it and nearly falls down.
The reams of disorganized paper detail the way station’s business in the past year: fees collected, contraband seized, troops deployed, and so on. The clothes near the armoire are suitable for a range of weather conditions and are all sized for an average female human. A badly scorched leather cloak hangs on a hook at the back of the armoire.

Vanyan detects magic on the torn cloak in the armoire.
Pushing the cloak aside Aishe opens the hidden niche. The niche behind it contains a dossier labeled “Six Wise Crows” in bold ink. The niche also contains some contraband Doeswen put here: an ornate counterfeit seal worth 75 gp and depicting a roaring lion, and 3 doses of terinav root.
The dossier describes the Six Wise Crows as a nefarious gang working within Vigil that is responsible for several unsolved acts of larceny. This gang is led by a female gnome named Kilibrandt and includes a death priest named Usundra, an old male human wizard, and three other members whom Doeswen hasn’t been able to identify. The notes posit that the Six Wise Crows were responsible for creating forged shards of the Shattered Shield of Arnisant and swapping them for the originals in the reliquary to hide their theft. Included is a map of Vigil with a large red ink mark highlighting an establishment called “Brunna’s Quality Shields, Smithy, and Sundries.” Above this ink mark, a question reads, “Replica forged here?”

If we go to this place. This Brunna's... what are we going to do about that old human Wizard?
We'll need something that will shut down his powers. Maybe something so he can't speak his power words.
OOG Thoughts- Kilibrandt is obviously the female gnome that attacked this place. Usundra is the female that raised the wights. I'm assuming another party member is an orc or at least an orcish/half orc.
Atium doesn't want to go back into Vigil until the party has a sensible idea on taking care of the wizard.

"Vanyan, I guess you have been gone from the country for too long to remember some history. The entire country of Lastwall was created by the Taldans after General Arnisant sacrificed himself in a final battle with the Whispering Tyrant. In the battle, Arnisant carried what was known as the Shield of Aroden. At the final battle, the shield was shattered, and one piece went into Tar Baphon's hand, destroying his body. The rest of the pieces are here in Lastwall. As to why they want the pieces? I cannot imagine, but they were part of an artifact and must have great power, if history is to be believed. I can imagine no good coming from these falling into the wrong hands.
He sighs heavily, looks down, then up at everyone. He has an expression is one that the party has not seen before.
"This scares me. The destruction of Rossler's Coffer was bad, and we feared that Vigil might be next. This could be bigger than we realized. And that scares me indeed."
He gathers himself after a moment.
"We must hasten. Let us finish checking this place here, then continue on."

Vanyan’s eyes widen as Tess goes on.
”Oh yeah. I think you mentioned this before. I think I was mostly listening at the time, but it was a long drone,” Vanyan apologies.
Vanyan rubs the back of his neck.
”But if these shield pieces had power, why didn’t the people of Vigil use them? And what power do they have?” Vanyan asks the air, but does not expect an answer.
Yes. Yes. We need to check the place. BUT, what about the wizard? Do you have a shield that can destroy his body - like the last time?
”What?” Vanyan looks at Atium. ”We don’t need a shield to destroy a weapon. That’s what your hammer or Vinas’ blade is for. Just smash his face. That’ll do just fine. I already gave you a nice circle that shuts down a lot of his powers. That will do fine too.”
Vanyan feels his stomach growl.
”I still could use lunch. Or it might be time for dinner. Either way we should get a move on.”
