Aishe is about to level another volley, when suddenly the elemental is snuffed out like a candle, and Vanyan remains standing there looking like a cat with a mouse to play with. Happy.
”Well done!” he calls through the burning structure. He puts away his crossbow as he moves back to the front of the building and joins the bucket brigade doing what he can to lessen the flames.

The flaming, and hulking body of the elemental is blocking Atiums way to save Rolf. Outwardly, he says,
Zee Bear will go through the flames.
But inside, while it's made of heat and flames, it also has this substance that will probably keep him from the door.
but all of a sudden...... Poof. Part of the flaming being goes sucking into the lightbox. Part of it winks out of existence.

He then makes his way through the bronze door, looking around.

With the fire elemental defeated the bucket brigade is able to get the flames far more under control within just a few moments. In the meantime Vanyan begins to dump water on the red hot hatch, enough to cool it down for Atium to wrap the cloak around his hands and pull it open without getting burned.
This reveals a small closet with a trap door leading down to the cellar. A steep earthen stairway descends into a dry cellar where three shields rest on a rack along the southern wall. Opposite the display of masterfully crafted shields, a complex iron door covered in mechanical locking mechanisms fits seamlessly in the northern wall.
A crossbow bolt suddenly strikes the wall beside Atium! "Ah! S-sorry!" cries a young dwarf who cowers behind the shield display. His beard is thin but carefully braided, and his hair is a dark orange. "I'm sorry! I thought you were going to be that fire monster! Is it gone?"

Vanyan waits outside, continuing to cast Create Water and save as much of the forge as he can.
"Say, uh, Tess? Tess?" Vanyan says aloud. "You know? That spell I cast? It only worked because that elemental wasn't of this world. You know? But that just leaves a lot more questions, right? Like how did it get here and WHY was it attacking this forge. I know we were coming here, but this is interesting, yes?"

"Indeed, Vanyan. Right before the combat began, I saw a man with foul teeth wearing another of those crow masks. He smiled in an unsettling way and cast some spell and vanished. It would be my guess that he summoned this thing. These crow people seem to one step ahead of us and are up to something. We will need to figure out what."'
"Atium, promise me you do not 'shakra crow?'"
He then looks at the dwarf. "Rolf? I believe that is your name. I am glad you are safe. I apologize for being abrupt, but I fear we are in a rush. We are looking for information about a copy of the Shattered Shield or Arnisant that may have been requested by a gnome. Are you famililar with such an item?"

Still on fire with flames licking his whole body. Burning on a unknown fuel - but not appearing to hurt Atium.
"Atium, promise me you do not 'shakra crow?'"
Atium shows disgust on his face. Like he had eaten a bunch of unripe Snozzleberries. The puckery sour look on his face is evident.
I don't know why, but the Crow is a terrible totem. A craven creature. You can rest assured that it would never be a source of "shakra" inspiration. I feel we are on the *right side* of the conflict. The winning side just knowing that our enemies are foolish enough to evoke the Crow.He turns to Rolf
Now Rolf- Tell these smart people what you know and all that you know. Leave out no details because of pride. Vanyan can tell when people lie. Tesenarin is smart and worldly. Aishe makes all bad situations good. Vinas has a pure heart and knows when others have that good heart or are HIDING SOMETHING. Me, I can't tell when people are lying, but I break legs and smash skulls when told to.
Stop Rage. Fatigued for 8 rounds. Also spend next round putting out the fire on his body.

Brunna's nephew cowers back in fear. Seems his life was just saved from the fire elemental and now back in danger from Atium, who threatens to break the very young dwarf's legs and skull open.
With the flames died down Brunna shoves past. "Leave the boy be. Can't you see he is scared." She embraces him in relief as her features soften. Without the fire elemental stoking the flames, the gathered citizens are able to put out the fire within a few minutes.
"Thank you for saving my nephew! The shop can be repaired, but you cannot replace a life. Please, take one of my shields as thanks!" the smith tells you.
You may choose either a +2 light wooden shield, a +1 blinding buckler, or a +1 clangorous heavy steel shield.
Brunna looks to Atium and Tessenarin. "I am familiar with the Shattered Shield or Arnisant. What does this have to do with anything?"
"I keep decades' worth of meticulous records locked up tight in that safe in the basement," Brunna says.
Once you explain the situation, the dwarf leads you down to examine the documents. Brunna remembers the order that Doeswen Aubry was investigating and finds the records quickly. The relevant order is dated 2 years ago. It is from a Kilibrandt Erstwhile, a gnome from the Erstwhile Dyeworks, for a replica of the Shattered Shield of Arnisant.
"I remember the gnome. Pale, with bright purple hair. There was an old human man with her. Rough-looking sort with rotten teeth. Erstwhile Dyeworks has fallen on hard times lately. It's a shame to see such a respectable business fail when the young don't appreciate family traditions."
Brunna allows you to take her copy of the order to use as evidence.

After Brunna's reply, he turns Atium. "You think I am angry, yet you go about trying to frighten everyone we meet. Please control yourself some of you will make our task much harder."
To the rest of the party. "It seems our trail of crumbs continues. We should go to the dyeworks. It seems we have little other options."

Tess's words do seem to put Atium on a leash. He listens to the man- though there's still a little bluster.
Pffftt. Being nice is overrated. That suggestion of pretending they are horses. That might work. But you were nice to those nobles, and most tread you underfoot.
As it was in my winterlands town, sometimes you get the flock of sheep to move with the beet, and sometimes you get them to move with the beat.
The barbarian is a bit put off as it was *he* that rushed to save Rolf and ran into the fire. Atium was just making certain the cousin was going to tell them all the truth. He didn't know Rolf was an innocent bystander. The puddle of pee at the young dwarf's feet would have made Atium back off a bit - at least before breaking something that would take a month or more to heal.

Aishe joins the others tired, sweaty, and covered in soot from fighting the remnants of the fire. He thanks the smith for his offer, "Very generous. Very generous indeed."
He turns to the group, "We should hurry. Sounds like they're trying to cover their tracks with destruction and murder."
He replenishes his bolts from his pack and is ready to head to the dyeworks once they figure out where it is.

Tessenarin begins to get directions to the Dyeworks from Brunna as Aishe remembers hearing a bit about the area.
Situated near Vigil’s harbor, the Erstwhile Dyeworks has provided Vigil’s residents with vibrantly colored clothing and dyes for generations. The Erstwhile family of gnomes was said to use rare plants from the First World to provide unusual, vivid colors—rumors they encouraged to add an air of exotic mystery to their wares. But the Erstwhile family’s fortunes took a dark turn a few years ago. A plague snuffed out the older generation of Erstwhiles. Younger Erstwhiles attempted to keep the family business going but over time turned to other pursuits or left Vigil entirely.

You make your way towards Erstwhile Dyeworks, winding your way through some of Vigil's alleys. A flash of purple hair reveals the presence of a female gnome who is raising her bow, preparing to shoot! Vanyan notes two human men similarly nocking arrows from other rooftops!

Vanyan lays down some concealment overhead as he shifts position in case he is being targeted.
"S&*&, can't see a thing. Get the dogs out there and let's get down." WIth a sharp whistle a trio of dogs growl and run down the alleys as Kilbrandt and her thugs moves across the rooftops to get closer to ground level.

Aishe's bolt strikes one of the dogs right in the chest, instantly dropping it with a yelp. Atium imposes himself in the alleyway, causing the dog to skid to a halt and quickly scurry underneath the cart as it whimpers.

Aishe takes a 5’ step and targets the red man, recently dropped from the rooftops. He does what he can with rapid fire bolts to take him out. He drops his deadly aim to try and equalize the cover issues.

Aishe sticks a few bolts into Ralidan's ribs just before Atium caves his head in with his hammer. Vanyan tosses a small ball of fire down at Onthur's shoulder. The man yelps as he begins patting out the embers.
Kilibrant steps back "Tsk, tsk."

Vinas advances deftly, swinging his blade around in his signature pattern:

Tessenarin's arrow takes out Onthur. The purple haired gnome quickly crumples against the wall as Vinas' blade stabs into her chest. With their masters down the dog takes off on its own.
The remaining down continues to cower underneath the wagon as it whimpers from Atium scaring it.

Vanyan doesn’t seem too interested in any of the loot, offering it to others. He waits for them to sort that out before being ready to move on.

Aishe's eyes light up when the belt is identified. After a short conversation with Tessenarin, he does take the belt and puts it on, while giving Tess his ioun stone.
"Let's hurry to the Dyeworks. This lot may be here to slow us down." he comments as he gets the belt situated and grows accustomed to the lack of stones whistling around his head.

You continue on towards the city’s docks, reaching your destination after several minutes. The Erstwhile Dyeworks consists of several sturdy wooden buildings around a sprawling garden. An 8-foot-high iron fence surrounds the garden, although this fence is ornately decorated and easy to climb. Rows of flowers and other plants decorate the northern central portion of the garden. Fennel, henna, madder, poppies, and saffron surround several walnut trees. Sheets of colored fabric and sheaves of brightly dyed wool hang on wires that crisscross the garden. Six pits, each 4 feet deep, provide space for tanners to work their hides in a mixture of dye, animal waste, and metallic mordants.
Behind glass show windows of the main shop, dramatically posed wire mannequins wear suits and dresses in vibrant colors. Yards of cloth in a dizzying array of colors and patterns adorn the mannequins and pool around the stands supporting them. Although the fabric colors are vivid, the clothing and cloth in the display are dusty. Between the window displays, a few short stairs lead to a wooden door stained mint green. Above the door, a sign suspended on thick, rusting chains reads, “Erstwhile Dyeworks.” The door is locked, but it looks like the key the gnome had will fit here.
South of the shop is a large barn, and to the west stands a great mill house and warehouse. The doors to these buildings are likewise locked, but the key also fits.

Finding no traps And numerous footprints that match the small gnome from earlier Aishe puts the key into the lock with a satisfying click.
You unlock the front door and head into the shop proper. This shop has an astonishing array of cloth and leather spread out upon tables and hung on ornate hooks. At the south end of the shop stands a large wooden counter, just visible above several heaps of fabric swatches and samples. Velvet curtains hang in front of several small changing rooms to the east and west and two display areas to the north. Double doors open to the north and south.
