I missed it was a Surprise Round. Clayton will Restricted Charge instead of Move + Attack.
It's not a surprise round. The monster spent its action moving out into the open and attempting to use an ability.

"At the sound of the door opening, Elessia angrily says "What is it? I am in the middle of important work that cannot be interrupted...!" before turning, obviously expecting Vos or one of the hobgoblins. "
I can't help but think this was a wasted opportunity to use my scroll of disguise self and some invisibility spells to have done something super epic! :)

GM JaceDK |

True, that would have been some most epic roleplay.

I'm off on a weeks family vacation today. I can post via phone, but map interaction will be tricky. In effect, I think we'll resume once everyone are back from their various holidays.
Enjoy the summer, everyone.

GM JaceDK |

Back home. I'll update the game later today.

GM JaceDK |

Okay, there are a couple of things regarding your current tactical situation I really need to make sure you understand before resolving your stated actions.
1: All squares around the summoned earth elemental are currently occupied by either skeletons or web. That means that moving into the room requires you to first move through the elemental (drawing three AoO's) and then either though an enemy (requiring a hefty acrobatics check) or the web (counts as difficult terrain and requires a Combat Maneuver or Escape Artist check to pass).
2: All skeletons currently have cover from any ranged attack you can make, adding +4 to their AC.
3: You have an invisible enemy spellcaster, who has clearly broken free from the web and is casting spells with total impunity.
4: Your position in the hallway prevents the majority of your party to contribute to the combat in any meaningful way, including your fire mephite ally.
Remember, this is the end encounter of the entire module. It's designed to be difficult. And I'm not pulling any punches in regard to making the most effective choices on behalf of the enemies.
Silas' opening web spell was a pretty brilliant move, which put the enemies at a very significant disadvantage. But now that they have all broken free, it is actively working against you.
In summary, I have a real concern that you're headed for a TPK unless you reevaluate your tactics. And I'd hate for an otherwise great game to end that way.
So please, take a moment to study the map and the relevant combat rules, talk over your options and work as the experienced team of hit-and-run operatives you are. Ask, if you have any questions about the map or game state.

Sorry the delay. We had a very tragic death in the immediate family yesterday, so my focus has not really been on gaming.

GM JaceDK |

Thank you, everyone.
Funeral is on Friday, but I'll see if I can advance the action before then. I have had no response from Stochelo, so it looks like we are down to just three players. I'll GMPC Stochelo for now.

GM JaceDK |

Hi guys.
I'm more or less ready to push on, but I'm a bit conflicted about how best to proceed.
I've had no word from Stochelo, which means that at this point we're down to three active players. With our friendly mephite NPC Dax in tow, that's effectively half the party under either GM or other player control.
In addition, this is the very last fight and it's turning out a bit anti-climactic rather than the exciting finale for the module I had hoped for.
As I see it, we can either push forward with the combat, sharing control of our amputated group between me and the remaining players, or I can round out the whole thing with a cinematic narrative, so we can at least get some kind of closure.
Before I decide, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Clayton Stenos |

I finally got a chance to play a Snakebite, even if a lot of stuff was unfeintable. I would be happy for Clayton to go home to his family and escape Varisian mobsters in peace.

GM JaceDK |

Thank you for your input. I think I’ll do a narrative write-up of the remaining combat and then we can do a bit of freeform RP to find out what happens afterwards.
