Welcome to the official discussion thread for GM JaceDK's Fangwood Keep PbP game.
Please take the time to introduce yourselves and sort out any final details around character creation. I'll review your profiles individually and address anything that needs to be sorted before play begins.
I hope to have the game up and running before the weekend. In the mean time, glad to have you on board and look forward to our shared adventure.
P.s. Lurkers are welcome to use this thread as well.

Greetings, comrades!
I am most glad you have seen the wisdom of joining my excursion in this matter.
With our combined might and intelligence, I am sure we will succeed most readily!
(Just trying to get his voice in. Think John Stamos crossed with Liam Neeson, with a Chelish (Romani) accent.)

Hey guys! I'm looking forward to the game!
Still working on Silas' bio/backstory and spending his last gold. Hope to have him complete soon.
Do we want to work the Foxglove Saboteurs angle into our collective backstory? Perhaps some of us have worked together previously, or at least know of each other?
Cheers!

Clayton Stenos |

I'm cool with knowing each other or have worked in passing, I kind of have the idea that he's been inactive in the fighting scene since he left Varisia and this is his 'one last job' moment.

Stochelo Carmenta |

I think having us be a sort of "hit team" sent by the Foxgloves seems pretty appropriate. Since they're a loose organization, maybe we've worked once or twice together, and now the group wants to send some specialists out for a big job?
Stochelo would be most interested in exchanging notes with Silas, especially regarding defensive illusion magics and offensive spells. He would certainly have offered to share his spellbook (under supervision of course) if Silas wanted to scribe any to his own, or make scrolls.
Regarding "Grumbles", I doubt Stochelo has been with the band long enough to have been part of his rescue team. But perhaps Grumbles was one of the 'newbies' that showed him the ropes and such when Stochelo came into the organization?
I'm not firm on any of those leads, I'm open to work however you'd like.

Silαs |

I have made a few adjustments to Silas. Namely alignment (now LN), swapped a few spells, filled out his gear and added his spellbook to his profile.
I am still working on his bio.
For the purposes of a collective backstory, Silas will be a fairly recent recruit of the Saboteurs, having worked with them for no more than a year.
Silas wouldn't be opposed to collaborating with Stochelo, trading spells on an equal basis, with his main interest being in acquiring Mirror Image.

GM JaceDK |

I’m considering starting off with a brief prologue, where you all begin in media res on a joint Foxclaw mission.
This kicks off the game with an action scene and lets each of you showcase your skills and abilities, before we move to a lenghty “talky” scene with the mission briefing.
Thoughts?

Elduin Faenan |

Whatever you feel like.
Regarding joint backstory:
There is an elf, or was it a half-elf, living in the forest nearby. Very tree-hugging type. He's supposed to be pretty awesome with the bow. He had been approached by the Foxclaws a few times, but he's too stubborn to officially join your cause. Which nobody understands, because rumor has it that Molthunes killed his parents.

Clayton Stenos |

It was supposed to be one more job... but if I play my cards right we may never have to run again.
I'm totally cool with the intro. Better than the old walk into a tavern before the mission briefing!

GM JaceDK |

Whatever you feel like.
Regarding joint backstory:
** spoiler omitted **
Thanks, Elduin. I'll make sure to work your backstory into the prologue in a way that makes sense.

Stochelo would be most interested in exchanging notes with Silas, especially regarding defensive illusion magics and offensive spells. He would certainly have offered to share his spellbook (under supervision of course) if Silas wanted to scribe any to his own, or make scrolls.
Trading a few spells is fine, as long as you don't use it to effectively double your starting spells. I think it would fit naturally between the prologue and the start of the actual game.

Stochelo Carmenta |

Oh yeah I was planning on doing that in game, not as prior-to start, post CharGen.
Seems like Stochelo and Silas are fairly new recruits, who along with Grumbles were sent to meet up with this rumored elf sniper. Clayton gets folded into the group along the way, and Bob's your uncle.
Works for me!

Stochelo Carmenta |

So we should be good to go, right?
Everyone all buttoned up on CharGen, basic story is: Stochelo, Silas, and Grumbles are working with the Foxclaws and get sent to track down/meet a druid sniper dude in ththe woods (Elduin). The 4 make friends and stumble across Clayton making his break away from the crime family hunting him, and bring him along to speak with the Forest Marshall.
Now we get to talk to the bossman, and get the nod for whatever mission hes proposing.
Any objections, alterations, or additions?

GM JaceDK |

Playing around with maps, Herolab and Roll20 today. Stay tuned.

GM JaceDK |

Quick map check: Sample map
Can everyone see the map using the link above?

Clayton Stenos |

Yup! Comes out clean for me.
I have a Dropbox account logged in all the time though in case that matters.
Checked with Logged Off and can see it as well.

GM JaceDK |

Alright. Got map and tokens set up in Roll20, encounter built, everything ready to go. Just some quality writing to start us off with a bang, then we're off. Should be able to get that in tomorrow.

GM JaceDK |

We're off, gentlemen. Godspeed!
P.s. I encourage you to add me on Messenger (or WhatsApp, if that's your thing) for easier communication outside the game. I find it to be much easier to work with than the Paizo private messages. Search for Jacob Trier.

Silαs |

Partially out of curiosity, and partially to best predict posting patterns, is everyone ok with sharing where in the world they reside?
I myself, live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, (UTC-7:00) Mountain Standard time, and post mainly late at night.

GM JaceDK |

Great to see some good RP going already.
A few practical notes:
- Those of you using spoilers in your character sheet, please reformat so all info is available without clicking. Leave background and other fluff at the bottom. Check Silas’ sheet as an example to follow. I know spoilers are a common practice, but I find it makes it time consuming. I much prefer being able to scan the entire stat block for the info I need.
- I’ll handle all knowledge checks relating to monster abilities as passive checks whenever you encounter a new monster. I’ll provide relevant info in spoilers
- once we begin play, feel free to designate the default use of at-will abilities like detect magic when entering new locations. I’ll assume their use and add it to my description to save time.
- I’ll add these house rules and any future ones to the game description. Feel free to suggest things that work well in your other games.

Have been minding the youngest while the wife was out. Will post in a bit.

Clayton Stenos |

Not always true.
Some spells such as Diamond Spray and many Druid Spells take DR into account, but it is the exception.
It explicitly calls it out in the spell though.

Clayton Stenos |

Some magic creatures have the supernatural ability to instantly heal damage from weapons or ignore blows altogether as though they were invulnerable.
Spells, spell-like abilities, and energy attacks (even nonmagical fire) ignore damage reduction.
Stone Call would ignore DR because it does not have an exception like certain other spells have. Its weird but that's how it is
