Just note, Sven, when you're in your elemental form, you can only speak the elemental language of that form (Auran for air elemental). Since you don't speak Auran, you can't actually speak when in that form.

What is the Challenger's speed with all our recent upgrades?


What were the upgrades? Most of them don't increase the ship's tactical speed, only it's travel speed.

Also, how is everyone holding up? I know Baolus is away from his computer, but it seems like we've had a bit of a slow down in posting. Is everyone ok? Is there anything that anyone needs to air?

Can I get a sound-off, so I know if anyone is dropped out?

Broad rudder, silk sails, rapid deploy sails, and a ram, if I remember correctly.

We purchased them with the prize money for the two ships we dragged into port, then split the remaining coin.


That gives you a +2 to all sailing checks, an additional +1 to checks to gain the upper hand (we'll need to remember this in future rounds), and +10% to waterborne travel. Tactical speed is not affected.

The ram is special. It lets you ram other ships without your ship taking damage. And it does more damage to the other ship.

Kehlysch: Could I have you clarify the actions you're taking when you post to pilot the ship in combat, please? I get the 90* turn for gaining the upper hand, but the rest I'm not sure about. Just in general, if you could reference the players guide and post what actions you're taking, so I can properly apply the actions.

You also have control of the ship on the Roll20 map, so you can move around as you would your own token.

Ok. I moved our ship to show the 90 degree turn.

I guess the best action to represent what I am trying to do is Make Way. I am trying, by turning downwind with the lugger and adjusting speed to force it to move parallel with our starboard side, instead of cutting diagonally behind us.

Sorry about the confusion. I will make sure to insert specific action terms into any descriptions going forward.

Sorry for no response yesterday, I was sick and a little delerious. Still not feeling 100% today, but I'll try to get a post up.

Adjusting your speed, ie slowing down, requires the Heave To action. So you'll still be moving at 60' this round, but you increase the DC of the other ship to do aynthing bu sail straight ahead.

Guys, I believe we lost Buhayra. Next week it will total a month without a post of hers, which is strange, since Nairb the Grey (her player) was quite active here. I also GM another game for Nairb and he had not answered to any PM I've send him about his absence.

What is the plan? Continue without him/her as 5, wait or invite another player?


You’re right, and that is really unfortunate. A very good player lost. I hope all is well.

For now I’d say keep her as an NPC. At least until we reach the next port. At which point if the player isn’t back we Recruit a new ship’s doctor


My plan was to wait until the month mark, then start looking for a new player. Probably reach out to one of the people who applied way back when.

I do sort of feel bad, since Nairb seems to have dropped out of the world entirely. Like Baolus said, he doesn't seem to have posted anywhere, at least on Paizo. If it was just this game that he had abandoned, I would have started the replacement process even sooner...

I just about did that just now. Yikes.


Spell combat to cast True Strike, using an Arcane Pool point to max out my damage with Perfect Strike. Attacking Orange.

Bow Attack: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (2) + 29 = 31
Bow Damage: 8 + 11 = 19
Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

That is amazing! Makes me want to do this with a character. Never thought about using true strike. Can you break down how you got the damage up? Will help me when I try to recreate this.

As you can probably tell, I enjoy finding ways to maximize damage. :)

Spell Combat allows me to cast a spell and attack in the same round, as a full-round action. I take a -2 on my attack(s), but with the +20 for True Strike, it works out.

Perfect Strike is a feature of the Kensai archetype. Spend an arcane pool point, and you don't roll weapon damage, you just use the maximum.

Weapon damage is a combination of magic (currently a +2 bow), risky strike (deadly aim in base game), arcane strike, and focused shot.


Ah, I see. So...full action for 1 spell slot and +18 to hit. Very nice combo. Then +4 Deadly Aim, +5 focused shot and +2 enchantment for +11 damage. Throwing in an arcane point to make the bow a straight 8.

A lot of investment for a single shot (a spell and an arcane pool point) but man that makes for a solid hit. If you can get proficiency with a hornbow (2d6 damage) you can squeeze out another +4 damage out of this .
