Long ago, in the land of Aranstra, 4 adventurers made their way through the tomb of a long-dead priest of Zon-Kuthon, hoping to clear out threats that had recently been sighted coming from the crypt. They came to the area where the coffin lay and saw a glowing holy symbol of the pain god behind it. Thinking its dark energies were causing the disturbances, they smashed it. But to their horror, this was a trap, the priest's final act of cruelty in service to his sadistic god. For as the symbol was destroyed, it opened a portal to the Plane of Shadow, calling forth a horde of kytons and other shadow beings into the world. The adventurers were bathed in shadow energy and were transformed into servants of the Shadow Plane. The summoned army continued to pour forth as it marched to recreate the world as Zon-Kuthon envisioned it.
The Aranstran government took drastic measures to counteract the invasion. They issued a very strict and hated law: Adventuring is outlawed. No one was allowed to leave the settlement they resided in. Walls were raised and guards were doubled. Many attempted escape, but most were captured and sent to the Crater, a hole in the ground built as a prison on the nearby continent of Girakesh. They were forced to stay put as the military fought against the oncoming horde.
You are a descendant of one of the 4 who delved into that tomb many years ago, born from the bloodline of their children who had been waiting for them to come home. You dared to escape your home, to fight back against the cruel beasts. But you were caught and now your fate seems to be to sit in your cell in the Crater, never to have your freedom until the shadows are beaten back.....
This will either be a PbP or it might be my first ever Google Hangouts game, if there's interest in that. It is in a homebrew setting, but for backstories, you don't have to name specific cities, towns, villages, etc. I'm looking for 4 players.
20 point buy
No 3rd-party material
Any class from a Paizo rulebook, but if it's an unchained version, you'll have to link me to it, as I don't have that book.
All races below 20 RP except fetchlings, wayangs, drow, duergar, svirfneblin, and other similar races.
Average starting gold
Max HP at 1st level, Average afterwards
Looking for good roleplayers who also love good combat. Can't wait to see everyone's applications. :)
Marian Quick-to-Anger the 2nd |
"This imprisonment is a mockery. Come, brothers, we must rise. Together, through might, and the Light of The Sword Herself we will rise up, out of the chains. Let us not lose hope, let us all work together to leave this horrid Crater." Marian says in a raised whisper. The intensity of his words would surely send tremors down the spines of his foes.
"Did you come all this way, just to die? Not I!" Marian whispers as blood trickles from his nose. He looks longingly towards the door, anger blazing in his eyes.
This is the character I'd like to submit. Got a good little bit of backstory. Should be a good starting point.

I don't know if this would fit into the story you're wanting, but I've got a concept that I think would be hilariously entertaining: a kobold paladin with the Chosen One archetype. In this case, his familiar would be a disguised cassisian, made from the soul of one of the fallen adventurers.
Essentially, he would start out as a kobold miner who follows after an ioun ward because, you know, flying gems are kind of enticing. His familiar is basically one of the past adventurers trying to lead a new hero to fix what he first set out to do... and he's hoping the kobold will do the job. Unfortunately, after leading him to the surface, he got captured because, you know, kobold.

You could make some alterations as the adventurers still have their souls, they're just tainted now.

Intriguing. I would like to submit my newest creation(s), Mr. Brooks and Ham. Please note the archetype requests at the bottom. A brief history and description are on the character sheet. It is worth noting that the whole "amnesia" thing isn't just a way to cop-out of making a background. I originally had a whole story about being raised in a minor noble family (the nation would have depended on what campaign I was accepted into) before an attack in which Ham made himself known, and Mr. Brooks was disowned. I just liked the idea of Mr. Brooks not knowing anything about his past, and the potential for him to run into people who recognize him. If selected, I will happily adjust him to your guidelines, and change his backstory if you so desire.
