Please see HERE. PEGRon is one of the game developers, and it's in a forum called "Official Answers".
I'm not doing this to prove I'm right, but to show you how the people who wrote the rules think about how they word things. It takes some getting used to...

So apparently, they decided the penalties were too steep in the 4th printing version.

Can anyone use the Wands or do you need to be a spellcaster of some sort?
GM_ZenFox42
"To activate a wand, a character must point it in the direction of the
target or area, and make a Smarts or Arcane [Faith, Spellcasting] skill roll (her choice) as an action. A failure still uses a single charge. A Critical Failure also causes Fatigue to the wielder."
I guess they added the Smarts roll so that anyone can use a wand.

Reminder: Jzero will not weigh in on questions of where to go on the map, since I have access to the map and could be tempted to look at the details to figure out the best next move.

ALL - there's a new SW RIFTS game that's just barely started, and we already need more players. You'd need the SWADE Core rulebook, and the SW RIFTS Players' Guide ($10 PDF).
RIFTS is on the power-level of a Supers game, with a mix of super-powerful tech, magic, and psionics to choose from. There are pre-made "archetypes" (classes) to choose from, or you can roll-your-own PC (but personally, I would recommend the archetypes). The GM is also allowing Supers builds (45 points, I think).
It's set in "the New West" (it's a RIFTS thing), west of the US Rockies. Specifically, New Salt Lake City.
I didn't mention it when it first started, because I found the Recruitment post pretty late, and the GM had originally said that he was looking for 4 players. By the time I got there, he had allowed a fifth, and then he generously allowed me to join too, so I didn't mention it to anyone else. But then within the first six weeks, four players have dropped out, so he's opening recruitment again.
The recruitment page is HERE.

Sorry everyone for my long absence started a new contract and it had 2 weeks of fairly intensive training -- oh and while the class was only 3 hours per day, the 3 hours of independent work per day turned into like 9 hours (or perhaps more) of independent work. It didn't help that I had to spend catch-up time for the 1st 2 days that I had missed. Still got it all completed yeah.
However, due to how late I joined this specific contract I only had 9 days left of the contract and I be needin mo munnee or me wife was gunna hit me with an iron skillet. So then I spent 9 days of working from 9am to 11pm with somedays being nearly busy all day as the calls would exceed my scheduled breaks and therefore I would miss the break. Still it was enjoyable and hopefully nets me enough money to help cover various expenses that we have for a bit.
Of course now I have a lot of catch up to do -- I hope the GM ghosted me in my absence and again my apology for not posting a note about this earlier but I was always so tired at the end of the day I went straight to bed -- just do not have the same stamina that I used to have when I was much younger.

Crastor - I just noticed on your magic roll, after the Spellcasting die Aced, you rolled your Wild die and then the Ace re-roll. A while ago, I asked that everyone always please immediately re-roll any Acing die before continuing on. Since your Skill die was a d6, the re-roll was a d6, as was the Wild die. Fortunately, they both came up with the same result. If the Wild and re-roll had been different values, I would have taken the Wild die result as the re-roll, and vice-versa. Thanks!

Ok, I just did the Ace second as I rolled the Wild Die with the initial roll. In the future I will change that.

Is this a haiku?
Let me count the syllables
No it isn't.

ALL - I'm trying to improve how I describe the results of combat. In my last post, I tried to describe where a successful blow landed (and its results), and why an unsuccessful attack failed. I'm trying to get away from a "X attacks Y and inflicts a Wound" kind of narrative. But I generally won't describe the weapons the PCs use, because I have a bad memory (unless you name it in your attack posts). I'm also trying to use different words to indicate the target has been Shaken (rattled, off-balance, dazed, etc.).
What do you think of the level of description in this last Summary? Acceptable? A little light?
If you *really* want more description, perhaps you could take some of mine from the last post, and expand upon them to give me some ideas...
Thanks!
Crastor Deems
This works for me. I think that it should be fun for you to run and you should not stress over the description of whether a hammer crushes something or a dagger hits a major artery. If there are questions about what you describe, we can ask.
Jzero Katzu
It is an improvement and welcome, although I agree, you should not stress over it. I also appreciate the round recap as I sometimes lose track of the results of all the different actions.
GM_ZenFox42
Actually I just realized that I haven't been posting the results of the player's actions immediate after you make them, I've just been waiting until the Summary post.
Does that bother anyone? Would you like to see the results of your actions right away? We've been moving at a pretty good clip posting-wise, but it still takes 5-8 days before the people who act first see their results.
Crastor Deems
I am fine either way. It might be good to know if a bad guy goes down in case it changes later actions. But that can be handled.
Jzero Katzu
When I GM, I usually try to post results as they happen. It saves on ret-cons as people sometimes attack an enemy whom another PC has already taken out of the combat.
Evesk
Personally I find, alternate actions within the extremely short time period to be metagaming. Because frankly, the opponent does not collapse so fast that another person attacking them would even notice that they were going down and that just means the target is even more dead than they were before.
Just keep in mind, the character is in a chaotic battle trying to make sure someone is not going come up behind them and knife em in the back -- while trying not to get hit by the opponent(s) in front of them -- while also launching an attack at an opening in their opponent's defenses.
Again, frankly in IMHO a character does not have time to adjust their actions until after that round of combat is over -- however in a more interactive venue I allow players to make a Reflex Save if they wish to react to an immediate event -- otherwise I wait until the end of the round to make updates to the opponents which is also the same guideline I apply to the monsters.
Still everyone GM has their own style and I am good with whatever they decide to do.
Jzero Katzu
We are playing a game that was designed to have each action resolved before the next character's actions are taken. This is what happens in an in-person game around a table. The player rolls dice; the GM states the result; and then it goes to the next player who starts his turn knowing the results of the previous players action. It is unrealistic, but it keeps things from getting too complicated and confusing. PBP changes the dynamic, but the rules are written with the table top game as the norm.
Savage Worlds has a smaller scale version of fog of war in the case of a character who wants to take multiple actions in one turn. All actions must be declared before determining the results of the first action. If the second action was dependent on success of the first and the first fails, then the second action is lost; it cannot be changed.
GM_ZenFox42
I agree that posting the results of every individual PC's action immediately afterward is both RAW and somewhat metagaming (which implies that the developers don't mind that).
But, in PbP, sometimes two or three players will post in-between my last post and the next time I check the game, so even if I posted their individual results, it can't change the actions of those who have already posted.
I think that just posting that an NPC has been killed, whenever I check the game, is a reasonable compromise - posting that an NPC is Shaken or Stunned (or whatever) in the middle of the Round probably won't change anyone's upcoming actions, but attacking an enemy that's already dead from a previous player's action is just a waste of the future players' actions.
Hope all that made sense!

Just as a head's up. I will be taking a trip from Friday through Monday. I am not sure how my posting will be in that time so feel free to bot me as needed.

For what it's worth. I think Evesk has not posted in almost a month. I hope everything is ok with him. Has anyone seen him in other games?

Ah, it has been a while. I don't think i'm in any other games with him. Anyone know him personally? I also hope all is well.

I'll be camping the next two nights, so 'bot me as needed.

Okay folks finally got the time and a place I could post. First I moved and now my internet provider is only giving me partial access to internet and most of what I can get to is not something I want to get to and most of what I want or need to get to I cannot get to. They fixed it for about 1.5 weeks but then it went back to being an issue. They have now decided it is my hardware and will do nothing more until I can prove it is not my hardware. Highly annoying since nothing has changed with my machine but there router (and its replacement) are new elements.
This means I have limited access to the internet (gmail, youtube) and when I would usually post is when I cannot get onto Paizo (due to the limited access not allowing me to get to this site). I have taken part of a day to come to the library to put this information out.
As a player I would be sporadic at best but would still be willing to be a player just not sure how often I could post until I get my home machine fully operational.

Ug A bad local ISP is the worst. After many years ours here has gotten a lot better but we still have random outages for no reason.. Hope yours improves quickly!
Some company is putting fiber in the area for AT&T. Once they are done will see how much more that'll cost.
They tore up about 1/3 of my front yard but it was mostly the area that didn't grow grass well due to shade from the tree. My next door neighbor had high dollar soil and grass put in several years ago. I can tell he's pissed. :)

Jzero - the numbers on my "old" map correspond with the room numbers in the Adventure Path book, so I need everyone to go back to that one.
The link is :
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1J5qlXqhbP3bHYsNThxMW3647yLVPE_6W3_pvBt1 -HNg/edit?pli=1
If you can just copy-and-paste that into your "Map" link in your tag line, that should get everyone on the same page. After looking at it, if you can find the image file in your Google Drive, would it be possible to disallow editing to everyone else? If not, no big deal.
Please let us know when you've done it, so I can tell everyone to refresh the map that they're using.
Thanks!
GM_ZenFox42
Jzero - I just checked, and the version of the map that I've been using is on *my* Google Drive, so I must have taken an image of the PDF and put it on there, which explains why it matches the room descriptions in my book. The link I gave you in my previous post should still be good, just put it in your "MAP" on your tagline, thanks!
Crastor Deems
I tried to use that link and it did not work.
Crastor Deems
It worked for me as well.
Jzero Katzu
I kept the same link in my header but copied the map image from the other map and added spoilers. In the future, as we get to more maps, please remember to send me the SW version since we now know they have changed the map key. I wonder why they did that.
I don't have that map in my Google Drive.
Jzero Katzu
I made links to both. Use whichever you need. The GM map doesn't yet have any spoilers. Let me know if you want me to add them to match what is on the other map.
