As for class... Hmm... I'm good with whatever gives the most and best opportunities for plot hooks and character development.
Back to the potential class, perhaps something with a flavor of a place elsewhere in Golarion, adding to the sort of fish out of water theme without it delving into Tian.

His likes; Company, doing good and people that do good. Friendly competition. Drinking. Music. Reading. Travelling and experiencing other cultures. Swordsmanship and dueling.
Dislikes; Being stuck in one place. Taking advantage of the weak. The overconfident (despite him being a bit overconfident himself).
As for plot hooks, he is the middle child of a few brothers and sisters who might be searching for him.

Interesting question...
I think the overarching conflict with Norio's past is whether he can make his own name apart from the rest of his family, the end could easily have to do with whether he does that or finds himself alongside them again. Either way, Norio wants his name to go down in legend, even if he isn't around to read those legends.
So what would Norio regard as fame?
Songs in taverns?
Respect of Kings and Princes?
Becoming someone of authority in the Kingdoms?

I always figured that was just the danger of playing most martial classes for the earlier levels. What I do as a GM is find a monster with a gamechanging special ability ot two that requires you to fight aroung that, but those are usually high-leveled as well.

I think having less 'fights' and more 'encounters' will help...
Also, maps will help. Give you tactical choices.

Given how much damage I tend to take, definitely.
Had a teammate irl who used to cast that spell, and when him and another had an argument, the other jumped off a cliff to see if he'd survive.
He did.
That is a jerk move. Was it an in game or out of game argument?
Both, if that makes sense. Rules argument, nothing major, but cliff diving definitely did not help matters. Luckily he was resurrected by GM ex machina.
