As you approach the trio of buildings that forms the foundry, the tavern, and Khonnir's workshop, you hear a female scream, followed by a crashing noise. Following the sounds of mayhem, you arrive at the workshop. The door is unlocked and the sounds of mayhem continue from within.
Entering the workshop, you turn towards a short hallway to see a door burst open and a five-foot tall, grey and white figure wobbles unsteadily forward on three spider-like legs. It is vaguely humanoid, with a single blazing eye and four-fingered hands. It appears to be wounded, as parts of it's skin are missing and you can see wires and gears within. It makes loud grinding noises as it moves.

As the group hears the scream outside, Pire rushes ahead inside. "Hello? We heard a scream? Do you need..." He trails off, spotting the creature. Eyes narrowing, his tone turns serious, placing a hand on the hilt of his longsword. "I-identify yourself! What are you doing here? Who screamed?"
Knowledge engineering check to ID the creature? I have technologist.

"Well, I think that this is the automaton that we were looking for."
Druneor looks for a bit of space and to see if he can see who screamed.

Cheshire tenses at the sight. Fuzzles lets out a low growl as steps wide of the group.

Cheshire draws his boomerang and steps around the group in the opposite direction of Fuzzles. He continues to let his eyes dart around trying to discern the situation but it is obvious he is on edge and ready for a fight if it comes.

The thing does not have round feet, nor does it match the descriptions you have heard. The source of the scream is not evident.
The thing ignores the party and begins tearing out sections of the nearest wall.

"I don't think that is the automaton. Its searching for something." Cheshire raises his voice to a shout, "We heard screams is anyone hurt?"

"Cheshire, I think it is, but not the one that we were initally looking for."

"HELLO THE SHOP! WE HEARD SCREAMS, DO YOU NEED HELP!?"

Anvil draws his dagger and enters a combat pose. His skin shimmers and hardens.

Cheshire keeps his eyes on the thing but speaks across the room to Fuzzles, "Now Fuzzles sic'em!" He launches his boomerang at the thing and then tumbles close to get in to position for flanking.

Those who made Knowledge (engineering) checks can tell the rest of you that this is a robot of some sort, a construct made almost entirely of metal and wires. They are occasionally empowered to communicate and make decisions, though some are given only to follow orders without question.
Theodric delays his action, but Cheshire holds no such reservations and moves to attack, giving Fuzzles the go-ahead. The tiger's attack proves ineffective in hitting the rogue robot, but the boomerang clangs off it's metal surface, leaving a sizable dent.
Pire is up, unless Theodric wants to take his shot.

Pire, having reached the metallic monstrosity, begins having second thoughts, holding his sword behind him. "Are we sure it's really a good idea to attack this thing? What if Baine gets mad we destroyed his robot?" All the same, even as he asks the question, he prepares to defend himself and his allies.
Ready action to attack the Robot if it attacks anyone. Also 5-foot steps if it will give him flanking (4 people are in melee with it now, right?)

Druneor takes his spear, and pushes it into the legs of the automaton, hopefully distracting it from paying attention to Kit.

The robot spins in Cheshire's direction and it's eye locks onto the gnome.
Theodric fires, almost instinctively. The bullet blasts through the construct's "eye", shattering the glass. It shakes violently, then stops moving. As it ceases movement, a little face peeks around the doorway to the room the robot emerged from.
Blonde curls frame bright blue eyes and the young girl cautiously emerges, covered in a layer of dust. "Is it... dead?" she asks, approaching the remains with caution.

Seeing as it stopped moving, that changes what I was going to do
Seeing it stop moving, Druneor pokes the body of it with his spear to confirm if it is dead.
"Aye Lass, it appears to be dead now. Are you alright?"

Cheshire looks toward Fuzzles, "Play nice the hunt is over." He looks to the thing at his feet and studies it intensely. Examining wires and moving parts. "I wonder what it was looking for?"
Cheshire drops a piece of the thing and walks to the wall where it was before they attacked it.

At first glance the gnome appears to be looking at the wall but he is fussing with his headband, a tangle of feathers and dreadlocks seems to have fallen across his face. As he deals with his bad hair day he comments, "I can't see what the thing was looking for."

Pire sheathes his sword, and turns towards the girl. "How long has it been doing that? Where'd this thing come from? Are you hurt? Are..." He pauses, and starts over. "Sorry, I'm Pire. You're... Val, aren't you? I think I've seen you around town. What happened, exactly?"

After ensuring it as being dead, Drueneor walks up to look it over.

Cheshire still staring at the wall says, "Well I think this thing thought the important parts are in this wall. It was trying to get at . . . something."

"In that case, shall we see what it was looking for?"
Looks at the girl "Lass, do ye mind if we look in 'here?"

"I am Val, yes," she says, dusting herself off. "I am Khonnir's apprentice. Well, that is, I was, until he disappeared. Please, feel free to look around. I have no idea what the thing might have been looking for; so far as I know, there's nothing hidden in the walls or any such." The child is human, about 11 years old, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Val, is it. . . would you mind showing us to the thing he brought back last time. It might help us find where he is now."

"In that case, Anvil, you want to look the thing over?" Then Druneor looks over at Pire "Suggestions on where to go from here?"
Druneor then walks into the workshop proper.

Cheshire tenses, "Wait a sec that is the automaton? It looks nothing that was described to me. Probably shouldn't have killed it. What made it go all gonzo."

Pire Spipden |

Pire just looks at the gnome, crossing his arms. "Well, it's a little late for that now, isn't it? It was your idea to attack first, and ask questions later. It's okay now, since Val is safe, and building isn't being torn apart, but c'mon." He approaches the young girl, dropping down to one knee. "We're working to find Mr. Baine. Do you have any ideas on where he might have disappeared to?"
