Hey Malthu, presumably you're going to sell your current armor when you get the full plate, right? Mind spotting me 20 gp for an armored kilt? ;-)

In game I'm going to spin it where Rybal's wound was on his legs and he wants better armor protection to go along with his breastplate. I'm just... a little short on cash right now, hehe.

As for Saving Shield/Bodyguard--not bad, but I was considering this for Level 6:

Covering Defense (Combat)

You are skilled at protecting yourself and your allies with your shield.

Prerequisites: Shield Focus, base attack bonus +6.

Benefit: When you use the total defense action while using a light, heavy, or tower shield, you can provide a cover bonus to AC against all attacks to an adjacent ally your size or smaller. This cover bonus is equal to your shield’s shield bonus and lasts until the beginning of your next turn. your shield does not provide a cover bonus to reflex saves.

Both might be overkill.

Also, @ DM-- this E6 feat you have listed:
Master Combatant
Prerequisite: Fighter 6
Benefit: You acquire Armour Training 2, and your Bravery increases to +3. You may also choose a second group of weapons with which to gain the Weapon Training Bonus, however, your bonus does not increase.

How would this work for me, since my archetype has different features that replace armor training and weapon training?


You can get saving shield at 4, and Bodyguard at 5 then Covering defense at 6 :P

Provide all the AC to your allies so you'll have the lowest one, and even then that's high. So total defense, allies gain +3 AC. Then as an AoO and immediate action you can provide one with a further +4 AC. Standing around giving your friends +7 AC is quite nice.

Master combatant won't do much for you since you traded the normal fighter stuff in for an archetype, however you use this:

Archetype Advancement
Prerequisite: Character level 6th, an Archetype chosen at character creation
Benefit: Choose a single Archetype advancement of 8th level or lower from your current Archetype. You gain this as a class feature.

Thus you can use the feat to get this: At 7th level, the armor check penalty from a shield and the attack roll penalty are reduced by –1 for a phalanx soldier using a tower shield. At 11th level, these penalties are reduced by –2.

Sure, 20gp is all yours once he sells the armor. But... does Malthu need to re-fit the armor at the cost of gold? Or can he just wear it?

So Davachido, did you decide on a final form of the Sorcerer for your E6 rules? I don't think it affects me too much for levelling up this time, but it's nice to know. :)


Angry Badger (HP 25/26, AC 21)

At what rate (if any) will animal companions pick up feats after 6th? Outside of E6, they pick up roughly three feats spread over every eight druid levels.


The last post I did about it I think will be what I'm going to go with for now.

1) Power
2) Spell
3) Power
4) Spell
5) Feat
6) Spell and Feat

@Malthu you do need to refit it, but it won't take long and you just need to ask the blacksmith.

@Trogg: Huh, animal companion feats slipped my mind. 3 over 8 levels is roughly 1 every 3. So every time you gain a third feat after reaching epic the animal companion gets one. Does that sound fair?

Thinking about it a bit more, I'm wondering--would you allow Master Combatant to provide the same type of bonuses except for the features that were replaced by my archetype? What I mean is:

1) Instead of Bravery +3 it would be Stand Firm +3. Balance-wise, seems identical.

2) Instead of Armor Training 2, Deft Shield 1 (IMO Armor Training 2 is far superior to Deft Shield 1, so no balance issues there)

3) Instead of the bonus to weapon training (which is kind of like weapon training 1.5 instead of 2, since you get another group but Not an increased bonus), a half-bonus to Ready Pike (maybe one more usage per day, but not an increased bonus)

Does this seem fair?

I guess my point is that Weapon Training and Armor Training are much better than Deft Shield and Ready Pike already, but I chose this archetype for coolness factor and I'm fine with that. It's just that had I been a normal fighter I could take this feat that has two very good benefits and one decent benefit, but because of my archetype I'm restricted to taking a feat that only provides one of those benefits (and a worse one, at that).

Am I making sense? I'm typing on my phone so it's time consuming and harder to make sure I say everything :-)

Quick heads up, I'm going to be away until Sunday evening. Drak will go as well to talk to the female halfling and the smith bringing up the sword as well as a brief follow-up as to what they found. GM PC me as desired.

Had a chance to upgrade, though I have to wait until the SRD is fixed before I can finalize things like my new encumbrance allowance and minor things like that.

Here's what I got:

Shield Specialization

Almost went with Diehard to qualify for Stalwart at level 5, but I want to stick with the whole shield theme.

Question: Is this the mansion where we all met up? What kind of monster was left behind for us to go fight now? Just want to know what we're walking into.

Yes, we all met in the mansion. The monster would be some terrifying flying leech swarm. God knows what it ACTUALLY is.

There's also a large something chained to the ceiling in the same room. They may be working together. This reminds me - did anyone buy the salt we were planning to throw at the swarm?

There were no bags of salt purchased heh (this was never mentioned to Drak so he never knew).

We shouldn't need it though - if it's a swarm Rikaku should be able to burning/freezing hands them. I assume it's not resistant to both cold and fire.

For my part, I was out of town, finishing up teaching Summer School, and now getting ready for the 4th. I'm still interested and my posting should be picking back up soon.


I've got into a new fulltime job that's eating up my time. All of my game's have suffered from it, but I'm still trying to work out how to manage the schedule...

1 year of traveling with no real responsibilities to suddenly working 50 hours a week... :P big reality jump.

Malthu detects evil on the chained creature. Not sure if it matters under the circumstances, but maybe he can find some source of this evil?.

He will also ready an attack, should the wasp come near.

It might be moot because Drak got some good numbers, but does anyone have Prestidigitation? You could use it to clean the blood/gore off and make the chain easier to read. Of course, Rybal doesn't know that ;-)

I know Rikaku is going to post soon but does anyone else want to talk to the woman or would they like to do something else in the meantime? It is fine that the people who are interested in the woman stay here and talk, the others can explore the other two rooms or investigate the wooden handle if they wish. Or of course something else entirely! :P
