Jens and Ragnar are busy working on deck making sure that everything is lashed down and that all the sails are raised and secure in the face of the incoming storm. Anyone on deck will be called upon to help.

Hearing of this, Hoga grins. "Perhaps now, this girl will have a chance at a real life. This is good."

Patch agreed with Hoga. While a profit was a profit, he didn't think all that much of slavers, having avoided their sort himself as a lad. "Best thing that could have happened to her," he said with a pleased shrug.

After grabbing a quick bite, he set to helping Ragnar and Jens on deck. "Maybe I'll cheer everyone up with a tune when there's time," he said brightly, happily oblivious to the true horror of his music.

Hoga will do his part, and says little. Sailor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Patch and Hoga do a good job at helping prepare the ship. Hoga actually earns a compliment from the Captain for doing so well. (Unless there is something you'd rather do, Nimwi assists as well.)

After you're done, you see that Olaf has set up dinner with help of Deron and Lunthawg. Signe and Tashi come out onto deck to eat as well and Patch plays some music to go along with dinner. Tashi tells Patch how wonderful he plays.

During dinner, Captain Ragnar announces the watch order for the night.
1st - Hoga and Signe
2nd - Patch and Nimwi
3rd - Deron and Lunthawg
4th - Jens and Olaf

From the look Hoga gets when his watch partner is announced, he gets the feeling he had best be on his best behavior.

M Half Orc Bloodrager 6 / Init +3; Perc +10 / AC 22(26), 11, 20 / hp 31/(76) / F+9, R+5, W+7

"Ha," Hoga thinks to himself. "They think I'd want her? She's comely enough, to be sure, but I like a woman with a BIG pair. Hers are barely bigger than a child's."

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

Can Nimwi request 1st or last watch for himself so he can have the necessary rest for replenishing his spell slots?

male undine swashbuckler rogue/aquatic sorceror 1/1

Same question for Patch? Also, Patch doesn't have any ranks in Perform, so his playing is generally pretty awful. He just doesn't see it that way. *g*

Encouraged by Tashi, Patch played his birdpipes an extra long time, in between songs regaling them with the tale of how they were made from the very bones of a fishman.

At the watch orders Patch glanced at Nimwi with cool eyes, not having forgotten his "insult." Still, he didn't complain.

I forgot about that. We'll switch you and patch to first and
Hoga and Signe to second.

Timing - 1d3 ⇒ 2

You may go ahead and post anything else your characters do or say up until the middle of the second watch.

Everyone can go ahead and roll Perception for later. That way I can just narrate what you each might see/hear in one post.

Patch is forced to agree with Nimwi that it's dark.

Patch and Nimwi have just turned in for the night from their watch and Hoga and Signe are now taking their turn. Just as Patch is about to fall asleep, he hears a distant scratching sound. Oddly enough, it seems to be coming from the hull right beside his bunk.

At the same time, Hoga and Signe are walking around the deck of the ship.
Signe hasn't said much to Hoga up to this point when she suddenly pauses and cocks her head to side as she tries to listen to something. She slowly walks over to the side and peers over the railing and then takes a couple of steps back and whispers for Hoga. Hoga, your eyes are better than mine in the dark. Look over the railing there and tell me what you can see.

Unless Hoga decides not to look, what he sees is three Sahuagin using their claws in an attempt to scale the side of the ship. The first one is about halfway up to the railing now, though they do seem to be going slow.

M Half Orc Bloodrager 6 / Init +3; Perc +10 / AC 22(26), 11, 20 / hp 31/(76) / F+9, R+5, W+7

"Sahuagin! Three of them! Port side (or starboard, whichever)! To arms!" Hoga will then rush to the point where he can take a swing at the closest one to the railing, and ready an action to do so when it's close enough.

"Get us some light on deck! To arms! Signe, check the other side!"

While crossing the deck, Signe swings at the ship's bell just in case the yelling isn't enough to wake everyone. I don't see anything coming up this side. She then runs back over to the other side and loads her crossbow.

The first Sahuagin will take one round to get close enough for you to hit, you may ready to hit as soon as you can and go ahead and roll for it.

You may go ahead and roll your initiative.
Signe 1d20 ⇒ 12
Ragnar 1d20 ⇒ 9
Olaf 1d20 ⇒ 16
Jens 1d20 ⇒ 20

Patch froze as he heard the strange scraping, and was about to speak when Signe and Hoga called everyone to arms. Leaping from his hammock, he scooped up his weapons and muttered a spell of protection before charging out onto the deck.

Signe managed to get off a shot with her crossbow before it came within Hoga's range, though it seemed a solid shot, it did not do much against the monster. Hoga's blow fared better and it is clear that the Sahuagin is just barely managing to keep to it's clawed feet.

Everyone can make it to the deck of the ship by the end of the round after Hoga makes his attack as the creature clambers onto the deck. So what everyone sees is a Sahuagin with an arrow in him being dealt a mighty blow by your half-orc companion and who snaps at Hoga with it's tooth filled maw and draws blood of his own.

At the top of the round now, everyone may state their actions. You are all on deck now and you only see the one Sahuagin at the moment.

Deron moves onto the deck quietly and takes stock of the situation. When he sees the Sahuagin, he swiftly moves forward and attacks.

Hoga, remember to always roll initiative at the start of conflicts. (In this case it doesn't matter as it'd be impossible for you to roll less than 3 and you readied to attack the monster.) Also remember that when you ready an action your initiative is then set to the same point as when you took that action, but before whatever you interrupted. So, in this case, your initiative is now 3, but you go before the Sahuagin on 3.

For everyone else, it's also useful for the GM if you list your Initiative, AC, and hp with your action so she doesn't have to look it up every time. Or remember what spells or effects you have up.

Lunthawg pops out of his hammock and jumps to the floor and then bounds up towards the deck. He looks around for the enemies and then focuses on the nearest one.

You guys are really stupid to keep attacking us. Maybe we should hang a sign that says "We kill fish people" or something.

Lunthawg says as he stays near the rear, climbing up on any crates he can find to get a better vantage point.

Assuming the target of Evil Eye failed the save, just hit the others once they are visible for the next two rounds. I'll repeat it on any that succeed at their save.

HP: 8
AC: 14

Beginning of the round -

Jens darts in with a wicked looking knife at stabs at the monster, but misses as he dodges it's flailing arms.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Olaf runs in next and actually manages to get in a solid blow with his knife that finishes off the creature.

Hearing Hoga's announcement of two more of the creature, Deron races over to the side and as he finds himself face to face with one that is about to crest the railing, he hacks at the creature, opening a large wound on its head.

Signe readies her crossbow is case she manages to get a clear shot at anything that comes on board.

Nimwi is right on Deron's heels and moves up beside him to lash out at the creature with his wicked looking whip, opening a cut upon its face.

Patch follows up and attempt to get in a blow of his own, though the blows it already took caused it to jerk and it wasn't where Patch had aimed at.

Ragnar stand by Signe with a large club at the ready should anything make it own deck and get near her.

Hoga rushes over to the railing now that his original target is down and lands another blow that seems to finish it off and send it falling back down into the sea.

Five feet over another one climbs over the railing as well, it unslings the trident from his back and prepares to attack.

That completes round one. Remember, I'm just getting an idea of the groups strength, every fight won't be this easy. :)

Deron circles the remaining Sahuagin slowly. When he reaches a point opposite from where Hoga will be striking from he launches a blinding attack at the creature.

Hoga, remember that your initiative has been reset to 3, and just before the Sahuagin, because of your ready action on the first turn. On a completely separate note, I'm an idiot and have been using d8 scimitars. I've changed the post to show the correct damage.

Deron wrote:

That's why I said "readied attack."

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

Nimwi attacks the third Sahuagin from his current position.

Scorpion whip attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Patches attack roll 1d20 ⇒ 17
damage roll 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sahuagin will save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Before the Sahuagin is able to attack with its trident, Lunthawg points at the creature, gibbering what you think could be a spell, after which Deron delivers a viscous blow that nearly severs an arm. Then Patch darts in and gives hard club to the side of its head which obviously has the creature staggering. Then Hoga comes in to finish the creature off and it slumps lifelessly to the deck of the ship.

There are now two dead Sahuagin on your ship and from the mess of blood and guts, you know that you will be spending a good bit of time later today swabbing the deck clean to keep it from smelling like dead fishmen.

For those that want to keep track of their own xp, 700 total for everything.

Just to clarify readied attacks, here's the paragraph from the book

Spoiler:
The ready action lets you prepare to take
an action later, after your turn is over
but before your next one has begun.

Readying is a standard action. It does not
provoke an attack of opportunity (though
the action that you ready might do so).
Readying an Action: You can ready a
standard action, a move action, a swift
action, or a free action. To do so, specify
the action you will take and the conditions
under which you will take it. Then, anytime
before your next action, you may take the
readied action in response to that
condition. The action occurs just before
the action that triggers it. If the
triggered action is part of another
character's activities, you interrupt the
other character. Assuming he is still
capable of doing so, he continues his
actions once you complete your readied
action. Your initiative result changes. For
the rest of the encounter, your initiative
result is the count on which you took the
readied action, and you act immediately
ahead of the character whose action
triggered your readied action.

Deron cleans his scimitar as he watches the water for any more Sahuagin. Once finished he retrieves a mop and bucket and gets to work giving the deck a quick wash-off. He leaves the majority of the cleaning to later, when the sun rises, so that he doesn't get lost going overboard during the night.

I don't want this creatures stinking up my deck more than they already have. Strip off anything they have on and then throw the carcasses overboard for fishfood. We can look at their things when the sun comes up. Captain Ragnar looks up as a light rain starts to fall. Hopefully the coming storm will wash the deck for us, now be quick with the stripping and take below deck anything you don't want washed overboard. Signe, back to your cabin and check on Tashi and then the two of you may as well put on some food. I'll not be going back to bed this morning.

Signe will go and do as the Captain asks. Jens comes up with an empty sack and he and Olaf will begin stripping the Sahuagin that was the first to die, putting everything in the sack and will drag the body to the side of the railing when done.

After everything is done and bodies disposed of, Jens and Olaf will say that since the Captain won't be going back to bed then neither will they. They will don their raingear and begin inspect all the rigging and lines and make sure the ship is ready in case this storm turns out to worse than it looks.

male undine swashbuckler rogue/aquatic sorceror 1/1

Knowing he needed rest to regain his powers, Patch did a little desultory cleaning to help the others, then paused by Signe and Tashi's room to knock on the door and ask if they were both all right, though it was obvious his main concern in that regard was young, frightened Tashi.

Then he retired to his hammock, falling into a sound sleep despite the storm with the club still clutched in one hand.

Lunthawg yawns and shrugs at the commentary. He looks to see if there is anything exceptional that is held by the sahuagin and then heads back down to the racks, climbing up into his hammock.

Later on, when you take the time to look over the gear that you took off the bodies, you find: two nets, two tridents, two belts and one armband. If you also choose to take the time now to count the gold in the pouch, you find 500gp plus a gold locket that you hadn't noticed before. The locket contains a tiny portrait of a pretty young girl of possibly Chelaxian descent.

Both nets appear ordinary as does one of the tridents that is made of bone. The other trident appears of better quality (masterwork). Instead of bone, it is fashioned from metal, though it needs a good cleaning before it looks decent. You also doubt that it was forged by the Sahuagin since it appears a delicate hand was used in the ornamental engraving upon the shaft. The armband is gold, about 3 inches wide and set with mother-of-pearl and aquamarines in a swirling pattern.

In case it matters, I'll detect magic on the items. In fact, I'll detect magic on pretty much any nice looking item that ever falls into our possession.

Is that the girl we're looking for? No offense, but ugly humans all pretty much look the same to me.

Lunthawg seems otherwise uninterested in the locket but will find a place near his hammock to prop up the bone trident as something of a statue unless someone objects to it.

M Half Orc Bloodrager 6 / Init +3; Perc +10 / AC 22(26), 11, 20 / hp 31/(76) / F+9, R+5, W+7

Hoga eyes the nicer trident. Not my first choice of weapon, but it would be useful for anyone who ends up fighting in the water. I'm not volunteering, mind you!

You do not think that the girl in the locket is the one you are searching for. Nothing appears magical.

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

Nimwi looks over both the tridents and the nets. All could notice that his large grotesque mask is not on his face. In its place, there sits a thin half mask of mottled colors that seem to blend into the darkness. It reaches back, covering the entire top half of his head, tied low and to the side of his neck.

Hefting the metal trident, he stands quietly, head held slightly back and cocked to the right. His still silence drags out several minutes when he finally bursts out, 'Despite it's poor condition, this trident is of exceptional quality. If there are no objections, I would keep it.'

Upon a cursory examination of the nets he points out several small holes, 'I can repair these and teach others how to use them to catch fish, or even men.' He seems not to wait for an answer before taking up the trident and nets, carrying them over to his bunk where he sets them down then climbs into his hammock and goes to sleep.

male undine swashbuckler rogue/aquatic sorceror 1/1

Patch eyed the loot hungrily. "Maybe we should divvy up the spoils... just in case, like. Captain said we could keep it, din't he?" He thought it strange for the monsters to be carrying the locket unless they'd looted it from the ship.

Patch has no objection to Nimwi taking the trident. He takes a long look at the portrait of the girl, in case they run into her or her family, assuming there's a resemblance.

Opposite the girls portrait in the locket is a drawing of a family's emblem that matches the signet ring that is in the pouch. The pouch is the one looted from the wreck, not the monsters, I was just letting you know how much was in it now since it seemed like a decent enough time to count it all out.

The rising of the sun that morning is hidden from your view by the dark stormclouds that are now pouring down the rain. It's safe to say that any messes made last night are being washed away by the hand of nature. Anyone venturing out onto the deck during the storm will have a difficult time walking about without losing their balance. (Acrobatics check dc 10 to not fall at all if you venture out during the storm.)

The storm breaks at about noon and the Captain orders everyone to prepare the sails and sets course on down the coast, continuing on towards The Shackles. During the evening meal, Ragnar asks if anyone has any opinion as to which port they should start their search.
