Oooh, I wonder if there is still food on that ship.
Lunthawg heads to the edge of the deck and peers off in the direction of the wreckage. He looks around for any possible danger, despite his desire for spoils.
Ragnar yells: Eyes to water lads, it could be someone swimming to us us in hopes of rescue or something hoping to attack us. Either way, I will not have us caught unaware. Ragnar motions over to the longboat. Jens, Signe, prepare the longboat in case we need to get to the wreck for rescue or salvage. I'll not be risking the ship getting in close to those reefs.
Olaf, Jens, batten the sails and drop anchor. We'll not be leaving until we know if there are any survivors. Ragnar nods at Hoga. Go help Signe finish lowering the boat and then board it. He looks over to the rest of you. Anyone else feeling brave enough to go and look at the wreck?

Patch puffed up, making sure Signe saw him getting on the boat with the others. Once aboard, he drew his cutlass and scanned the waters as they approached the wreck.
Lunthawg waits and tries to stay out of the way as it is lowered. He then excitedly boards it though says nothing while doing so. He hasn't bothered to bring weapons, clearly either assuming he doesn't need them during fights or having forgotten them.
Nimwi takes notice as the wreck is called out. At the call that something jumped off, he races below decks and comes back a moment later carrying a strange object under one arm and a pair of long fin looking things in the other. He looks out toward the wreck, scanning the water back to the ship.
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
As the longboat is lowered, Nimwi asks Ragnar, 'Would you have me look for whoever abandoned the wreck?'
Looking at the bundle and fins in Nimwi's arms, Ragnar replies; We're still a fair distance from the wreck for you to be trying to swim the whole way there. Take your gear with you on the longboat and look once you're closer.
Having finished the with the sails and anchor, Olaf now climbs up to the crows nest armed with a bow and Jens watches over the side holding a cutlass.
After the lot of you board the longboat and head off toward the wreck, those that made a check of 10 or better see
Spoiler:
A large shape, maybe 6 or 7 feet long, swimming under the water in your direction from the wreck at a fast pace.

Patch tensed, his grip tightening on his cutlass as he watched the figure speed closer. Sweat ran down the sides of his face. Something big headed our way under the water, buckos, he warned the others. And here... it... comes!
Init:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
I'd like to ready an action to attack if we're attacked, if that's possible.
Assuming that those who didn't pass a perception check pay attention to their comrades, everyone can either ready an action or describe what they are doing for the two rounds it will take for the shape in the water to close the distance to your boat.
What you see is a scaly humanoid with a long fish-like tail and hands and feet ending in webbed claws and having some really big teeth. You may make a Knowledge-nature roll to recognize a
Spoiler:
Sahuagin
.
As the creature breaches the surface of the water, it has one clawed hand reaching out towards your boat as if to grab it and the other hand is holding a trident that is pointing in your direction. It's intentions do appear hostile. It is one 5ft square from the boat when it surfaces.
Saving throw vs Hex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Hoga, you may roll for a shot now as your readied action.
Hoga's arrow strikes the water in front of the creature and it snarls in response. It closes the distance and is now in the 5ft square directly in front of the boat and grabs the prow with its free hand. Readied actions may now be rolled.
Deron remains sitting even as the creature emerges from the water and arrows fly. It is not until it reaches the boat that he moves and makes his strike.
Knowledge (nature):1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 It's untrained, so a max of DC 10.

Can Hoga get close enough to take a swing?
If so:
Spoiler:
He drops his bow and moves to the front, drawing his falchion, and swings. Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
If not:
Spoiler:
He'll drop his bow, draw his falchion, and try to get close enough to swing next round. He's pretty low in the initiative order, so this may not even happen.
Remember that our readied actions interrupted the monster's action. So we've all taken an action in this round and next round will be able to go before the monster (all of our initiatives will be set to just before the monster's). But our next action will have to come after the monster finished it's own action.
If you got 12 or more on your knowledge roll you know you are fighting a Sahuagin. You know their race is cruel and warlike and can be fierce in combat.
You are currently halfway between the ship and the wreck, about 60ft in either direction.
Since I may be asleep before the next round begins I thought I might announce my next action. If the creature is still up, Nimwi's next action will be:
Action:
Nimwi takes a step back to give his companions more room and draws his scorpion whip. He lashes out at the creature.
Deron, Patch and Nimwi have left the Sahuagin covered in blood, but the wounds it received has seemed to drive it into a frenzy as it finishes its climb into your boat, dangerously tipping the boat forward and making the lot you need to make an acrobatics check to maintain your balance dc 10.
It will finish its action by stabbing at Deron with its trident as it snarls in anger:
attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
When my action comes up again. I'd list the initiative, but I'm not sure what the monster's was and we all go on that but before the monster.
Deron attempts to balance on the now rocking boat.
Acrobatics (+8-4acp):1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Upon regaining his balance, he uses his momentum to lay into the Sahaugin with as much force as he could manage.

Patch balanced in the pitching boat, his sea legs coming in handy. He tried to help Hoga, Nimwi and Deron drive off the scaly menace, but the rocking boat made it hard.
The creatures frenzy failed to draw blood from any of you and under the onslaught of your attacks it has now fallen over the prow of the boat, floating belly up like a dead fish, his trident falling loose from his now limp hand to sink to the bottom of the ocean.
Do you now continue on to the wreck or go back to the ship?
The tattooed man holds a hand out to help the goblin back into the boat. Once settled he nods towards the wreck to indicate they should move on. After washing and cleaning his sword he resumes his seat in the boat and keeps a wary eye on the water.

Rinsing his cutlass in the sea, Patch grinned at the others. If we bone it, I'll make another set of pipes! With only a quick look to see if the monster had anything of value, he settled into the boat and prepared to board the wreck.
Lunthawg takes Deron's hand and climbs back up. He looks over at Patch when he hears him speak and grimaces.
Ewww.
He says rather simply before poking at the body with one of the oars. He then sets the oar back in the boat, sitting down and seeming content to continue on.
After everyone settles back down in the boat, you start rowing out towards the wreck again. As you reach the wreck you can see how it is partially submerged with the main deck level being just a couple feet above the ocean and it seems firmly fixed upon the reef. Looking up at the side of the boat and railing you can see deep gouge marks, as though something with large claws had scaled the side and boarded the ship.
The longboat does contain an anchor and length of rope for docking
For those who board the wreck, you see a deck covered in the remains of shredded sails, busted barrels and crates and bloodstains scattered around. The doors to both the captains cabin and to below deck are hanging loosely on their hinges, from what you can see into the cabin, it appears to have been ransacked and you don't see anything in the other doorway other than stairs leading downward.
