Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

sleep lasts 1 minute per level, however; the sleeper that was hit automatically awakens (if he's still conscious).

Hate to tattle on myself, but shouldn't Nimwi take falling damage, too?

I thought about the falling damage, but then decided I liked the picture of your body rolling down into the sails and then landing on the deck better than you just going splat on the deck. So the sail negated the falling damage.

And I must've misread the spell as 1 round instead of one minute.

Correction to the sleeping pirates

The pirate that Patch clubs wakes up from the damage and stands up on his turn.

The pirate that the captain woke will stand up on his turn.

The third pirate is still asleep.

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

Just a point of contention, but nobody would ever shoot Errol Flynn when he was performing signature moves! =P

Quite true.

Round 3 Initiative: 6 (just before the Pirates), AC: 20

Deron steps over the fallen body of the Captain to attack one of the rising Pirates.

Attack with Scimitar (Power Attack): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage with Scimitar (Power Attack): 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Init: 13, AC: 12, HP: 7

"Your captain has fallen! Surrender now, or face the consequences!" Hey, it's worth a shot.
Patch faced off with the waking pirate, getting between him and the last sleeper to avoid him being woken.

club: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Init: 19, AC 16, HP 16

On his turn, Hoga will try to finish off the crowsnest crossbowman...who still probably has cover.

Bow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 3

M Half Orc Bloodrager 6 / Init +3; Perc +10 / AC 22(26), 11, 20 / hp 31/(76) / F+9, R+5, W+7

I'll be out of town and unable to post from Monday the 18th to Thursday the 21st. If someone else wants to play Hoga, that's fine. He's real easy; attack w/ falchion or bow! Or, you could do something else with him or ignore him, your call. I'll be back online Friday to resume play. Sorry for any inconvenience!

@Hoga - It'll be fine, combat is almost done now. Next few days will probably cover what to do with/about both ships, looking for any survivors and determining destination. If you have any comments about any of that before you leave, feel free to post tonight.

Hoga finishes off the pirate in the crowsnest, Lunthawg casts, Patch finishes off the pirate he is facing, Deron misses his. That leaves the sleeping pirate and the one Deron is facing as the only two left on the deck. Once he realizes this, Deron's opponent drops his weapon and attempts to surrender.

Round 4

Deron steps back from the Pirate and simply nods, waiting for the others to accept his surrender.

M Half Orc Bloodrager 6 / Init +3; Perc +10 / AC 22(26), 11, 20 / hp 31/(76) / F+9, R+5, W+7

Hoga will keep his bow trained on the pirates, ready to shoot any who think they can attack Deron or try to get away.

Nimwi's down! Can someone help him?

I'll be back Friday to get caught up on everything. Have fun, guys!

Lunthawg smiles and continues to bounce around happily as he hexes the pirates.

I really want to burn their ship so I hope they don't surrender...

Since it doesn't actively do damage, he'll continue using Evil Eye until there is confirmation of their surrender.

Patch grabbed the dropped weapon and scooted it away from the last pirate standing, then went to see if Nimwi was still breathing.

"Captain, shall we search their ship for valuables?" he called.

Have a good trip Hoga!

There's still the other burning ship to think about - as well as Besmara's Whatsit, which possibly has burning sails. I wonder how much we could get for a whole ship in port... ;) Anyway, Patch will use Drench to put out the fire if the captain says so.

Examination of Nimwi shows that if he does not receive some form of healing soon he may bleed out.
I completely forgot to have Nimwi roll to stabilize, go ahead and roll twice for that please.

The sails of the pirate ship were still damp from the morning's storm, so the fire is still quite small and moving slowly. It will be quite easy to put out and you may use drench to do.

Ragnar yells out, Someone put that damn fire out, I've no intention of searching a flaming ship. Is that lad still breathing? Bandage him up if so. Ragnar tosses some rope across the gap. Tie up those two and then make sure no one else is lurking around on the deck. Olaf, take the spyglass and climb back up to the crowsnest and check on that other ship.

You can use profession sailor and take 10 to tie up the pirates, they aren't putting up a fight now.

Deron will keep his sword ready to strike as Hoga ties the two Pirates. He turns back to Ragnar with a questioning look and then toward the other sinking ship and gives a short nod to indicate it.

Lunthawg will try to give Nimwi first aid, but is clearly not great at it.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

If anyone more competent comes over, he'll aid them instead.

Patch puts out the fire, then attempts first aid together with Lunthawg...

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

...but has no better luck.

Knowing they had little time if they intended to go to the aid of the sinking ship, Patch hurried over to the pirates' ship to search for troublemakers, captives and loot.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 D'oh! Not Patch's day...

Olaf call down from the crowsnest, Captain, that ship looks bad off, if we don't head for it now it may since before we can reach it.

Captain Ragnar nods his head while he thinks and the orders, Alright men, secure the lines between the ships. We'll tow the pirate ship with us. Make sure the vessel is secure and there are no more pirates below deck while we sail over. I don't want any surprises.

Searching the bodies on the deck yields a variety of knives and cutlasses of average or below quality. On the pirate captain you find a wooden holy symbol, a cutlass (masterwork quality) and some gaudy jewelry. Knowledge religion or Profession sailor check to identify the holy symbol dc 10

Spoiler:
Besmara the Pirate Queen

You may roll a perception check for the search of the ship.

Deron doesn't attempt to heal Nimwi, deciding that he'd only make things worse. He collects anything found and piles them up, and then joins Patch in the search of the ship.

DM WaterSprite:

Just posting this so they think I'm still making checks. Although the sudden lack of trying makes me wonder if these are being read. :)

Nimwi

Spoiler:
I figure most everyone looks behind spoiler. It is so hard to resist. :)

You have now done a thorough search of the deck and it is clear of any other pirates. You continue on to the pirate captain's cabin. Inside is quite a mess, it is obvious that he didn't believe in cleaning up after himself. Random bit of clothes and used cups and plates lay around and it doesn't smell very pleasant in here. Beyond some maps and sea charts, there isn't much else of interest in here.

Going down below deck, you find the galley (empty of people), a storage area filled some crates and barrels that looked quite hastily thrown in with little regard to order (no one in here either), a bunk room with several hammocks, two of which appear occupied with pirates that were too injured to take part in the attack upon your ship. Most likely their wounds were received in battle with the sinking vessel. Lastly, there is locked door.

Given that the aiding failed as well, is there a healer's kit that Lunthawg knows about on board.

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

DM WaterSprite:

Really? In unrelated news, I hope there is a monkey behind that locked door or on the other ship.

@Nimwi:

Spoiler:
Not likely this time, but I am known for throwing random things out so it is not out of the realm of possibility. Most fun I ever had was as a CG chracter with a rod of wonder in a group with 3 lawful ppl. They hated me. :)

@Lunthawg - Yes, there is a healers kit on your ship. One is kept in your bunk room for your ease of access in case of emergency and Signe keeps another in her cabin.

Lunthawg goes down to the bunks to collect the healer's kit, bringing it back up to attempt things again.

This is why we need a CLW wand =P

First Aid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

It's possible that someone capable of rolling over a 10 should try this?

male undine swashbuckler rogue/aquatic sorceror 1/1
Lunthawg wrote:

Don't look at me, I can barely roll above 5. Is it possible to take 10 or 20 on a Heal check?

Patch looked over at Deron, indicating he'd keep an eye on the wounded pirates if Deron would like to try bashing the door in.

Deron walks forward and attempts to kick the door in.

Strength Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Deron nearly kicks the door off its hinges as it bursts inward. This room is clearly designed as a brig. The most obvious clue to this is the young man in shackles against the wall. The room contains 5 sets of shackles, beside the door hangs a large keyring, below that lays a backpack atop a crossbow.

The tall tattooed man enters the room with his scimitar drawn. He narrows his eyes when he sees the shackles aren't empty. He stops and thinks for a brief moment, then swiftly grabs the keyring and unlocks the shackles. With a grunt, he leaves the room and tosses the keys to Patch.

Hopefully that's my cue. :)

The young man stands and rubs his wrists.

"Well that was quite the entrance."

And quite the exit.

"Well I'll assume by your lack of head lice and shears that you're not with the crew of this scow. My name is Daniel Vesper."

Gozreh's will be done.

Yep, that was the cue. :)

Male Elf (Mordant Spire) Bard (Sea Singer)/1

DM WaterSprite:

Well, I guess it's a good thing that Nimwi isn't actually bleeding out since there is absolutely no sense of urgency in helping him stabilize. I would suggest that in the future you make all of the rolls off board to avoid the meta gaming.

nimwi

Spoiler:
yet another reason this board needs a personel message system.

From your ship you can hear Captain Ragnar bellow out, Above deck you lot, I want this ship searched for survivors! You are now roughly 30ft from the slowly sinking ship. Ragnar will not get his ship any closer and will not attach any lines to for fear that it may suddenly begin sinking quickly.

@Daniel

Spoiler:
Hopefully you've read the previous several messages to notice the injured elf in the wooden mask. :)

Looking over at the sinking, you do not see any movement on the deck. Ragnar says you have 15 minutes to do a quick search of the sinking vessel.

Apparently no aid this time. Well, here goes again.

Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Seriously...someone that isn't me rolling would...be good.

Edit: Can we assume Hoga will aid? *wink wink*

My bad, I was just corrected that a heal check is no longer needed to know that someone is stabilized. The fact that the person ceases to bleed out is obvious enough for others to notice so your companions know that you are not in immediate danger of death.

Deron returns to the deck and frowns as he sees the goblin still working on the fallen Nimwi and then looks across the water towards the sinking ship. He drops his shield, sheathes his scimitar, and dives into the water to swim across.

Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Once obvious that Nimwi is fine, Lunthawg just leaves the healer's kit there and looks over to the burning ship and then back to the tethered pirate ship.

Can we burn that one when we're done?

He asks to no one in particular as he points towards the tethered ship.

Unless Patch attempts to stop him Daniel will wander out on deck.

"Oh my. This certainly explains the shouting I heard earlier. I assume you are not here to rescue me, since I have never seen any of you before."

This is a strange assortment. Is that a man in a mask? I do not think he is a pirate, I would remember that. He looks like a torturer.

"Is that one of your friends there? Is he hurt?"

Daniel is a tall man, with golden hair that actually seems to glow when the light hits it. His eyes are bright blue and there are flecks of gold in them at well. His skin is far too pale to be explained by his time spent below deck and his clothes seemed to have been well made once, but they are tatters and rags now. No other equipment is visible on him.

As Deron dives off the pirate ship, Signe does the same from your ship.
swim check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
They both reach the slowly sinking vessel and are easily able to use the tattered rigging and sails dragging the water to climb onto the deck.

Looking over the deck you see obvious signs of battle: bloodstains, dead sailors, scorch marks, doors bashed in...

Deron goes about searching for anything useful. He takes his time as much as possible (taking 20) and collects anything of value. Unless anyone is obviously alive he doesn't bother to check the fallen.

Since there are no enemies upon this ship, I am simply going to narrate what you find before it sinks.

In the captain's cabin you find his logbook that lists his cargo as spell components, potions, alchemical gear and several familiars. Searching below deck turns up the animals, everything had been taken by the pirates and is in the hold of their ship.

The animals are:

Deciding that any captive of the pirates' was unlikely to be a danger to them, Patch let Daniel pass, using the keyring Deron had given him to shackle the remaining pirates in the brig. Hearing Daniel speak as he worked, he called back, "If you mean the elf in the mask, then yes, he took a tumble from the spar." Dusting his hands off, he joined Daniel, indicating that the man should head over to their ship.

Patch approached Ragnar. "Captain Ragnar, this is Daniel Vesper. Looks like maybe they took him off that sinking ship, there." He turned to spy out over the water, looking for survivors.

Perception:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Sigh... as usual. The sun is in his eyes! Yeah, that's it.

Patch is a lean, sandy-blond man with green eyes who appears to be sweating profusely, much more than the weather calls for. His clothes are those of a typical sailor, and he goes barefoot. You get the feeling he isn't too troubled by Nimwi's condition. *g*

"I am no healer but if he is with you, and I owe you my life, then it stands to reason I owe him as well."

You notice that Daniel walks with a limp. His right leg is not quite strait and has a few ugly scars running from thigh to ankle.

Not to worry, Hoga, Patch already shackled them in the brig of the pirate ship.

Curious, Patch turned back to Daniel, watching him heal Nimwi. "You're a cleric, eh? Maybe your god sent us to aid you," he joked. "Or maybe it were Nimwi's, there, so you could aid him." He eyed Daniel's scarred leg. "Why don't you fix up that limp of yours, mate?"

Lunthawg walks up to the aasimar with a grimace.

Ewww...you are like an extra ugly human. I'm sorry.

He says before running off to climb over to the pirate ship if possible. He isn't interested in the tying up of prisoners, but will search the ship for anything of interest.
