1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Just something I wanted to explain with Ibinu. I felt as a player that Ibinu would not just kill even if a benefit would occur without feeling like he was or could be in some kind of danger. Thus he stepped inside the reach of the crocodile before striking. He then could atleast justify the reason in his mind.
Just wanted to process my thinking "out - loud -- with my fingers"

Onwards! To plot and violence!

If you have not watched that show it is freaking awesome! It is definitely worth watching.

Inam Smithrock |

That's fine with me. Just a heads up though, I'm fleeing my abode on the evening of the 28th. On the 29th thru the 31st I'll be climbing a mountain so likely won't be posting much.
Feel free to push it along if you need while I'm MIA. I should be back to posting on the 2nd of January.

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

what mountain?
If you lived in Utah, Id have you bring me a rock...I do lapidary work !
A break for a bit sounds great. I will have family here and as a jeweler our busy season really picks up (crazy now) from right after Christmas til mid feb.

Inam Smithrock |

Plan is for Mt Elbert.
I'm attempting to con my employers into giving me the month of April off so I can go to Nepal and climb Island Peak.

Kallik Sisa |

That sounds like fun. And so much more respectable than my plans. This weekend family steals my free time. And new years weekend I am going to drink way more than I should and hope I can function to run a game the next day.

Inam Smithrock |

I work Christmas Day (and the 3 days after), but will spend some time with family tomorrow and Saturday.
Climbing is the best way I've found to relieve stress. Pathfinder helps most of the time, but can't always get a game together due to scheduling issues. Hence my turning to PbP games. :-P

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

know the feeling inam. rocks and jewelry are my go to.
we moved about a year ago and I haven't had a live game in almost 18 months now.
I think i know what jonesing is now. Its killing me.
You could always mail me a rock !!!!! Just saying

Inam Smithrock |

Born and raised in the planes of IL corn fields. And I'm petrified of heights.
My wife grew up in Idaho. After 5 years married she convinced me to try rock climbing. I love it.
I belong to two different sport climbing gyms now and I've been in 4 climbing competitions. Lol
Still afraid of heightd, but when I'm climbing, the world's problems disappear.

Kallik Sisa |

I understand the fear of heights and that sometimes not mattering. I hate not being on the ground. Most likely a fear founded in how many times I have fallen down stairs and broken bones. I work upstairs in a warehouse and the platform is less than stable. They wonder why I am stressed ;) But I have gone repelling and that was a blast! Sadly the gloves sucked and I ripped my hands up. But I would do it again, but decent gloves are a must! The few times I have been high up on what Oklahoma calls a mountain were so soothing. The wind and view are blissful.
Bravo on the completions and finding something that lets the world and all of its drama fade away! That is a precious thing :)
I need to find a wooded area near where I live that is safe to play in. Trees or the ocean are my thing. Firmly on the ground. So I do not fall down to far :D

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

lol. - kallik-- i tots get the ocean or forest.
Inam: I am originally from Idaho--Blackfoot area by pocatello. Southeastern edge. Where is your wife from?

Inam Smithrock |

Homedale region. She used to hangout in frank church area.

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

I know the area. I lived in nampa for a while after getting married. I also did alot of wilderness stuff in t he frank church wilderness.

Kallik Sisa |

The ocean is so far away though! I miss it. I was born in Florida and have loved the beach since I was a child, though we moved when I was around five. The last beach I visited was on the coast of Belize. The best school trip I have ever taken. Ocean, caves, howler monkey's and the actual jungle. Sadly Oklahoma is really boring.

Kallik Sisa |

For those celebrating the holidays I hope you have a lovely day and to those who do not I hope you have a lovely day.
If we are still interested about having another player I could ask some of the people I am in some games with.

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

I hink that would be great.
And MERRY Christmas and happy holidays to all.

Inam Smithrock |

May Christmas and Happy Holidays. Everyone be safe in your travels.

Kallik Sisa |

Lady Ladile is the player I asked about the game. She is interested in joining and whats to know what type of character we think we would like to join us.

Kallik Sisa |

She has thus far played an slyph inquisitor of Shylen in Mummies Mask with me and I love the character she made. The other is actually an oread cavalier for Hells Vengeance. No clue if she would want to have a second inquisitor or not. I figure I will message her after I get responses from everyone unless you want me to bring her into the discussion thread?
I like the idea of getting some one from the church. Class wise we have eventual low level divine magic from Inam, eventual low level arcane from me and pure melee in Ibinu so I honestly have no preference on what comes in. We could need any number of thins. We have no dedicated caster, no sneaky type, and no ranged so. Though barbarians make great rouges. They just break the trap.
Also Inam! Hit the thing! Ibinu and I have failed.

Ibinu gilas Akoi |

I think that low level church could work. something like a sanctified or sacred (whatever the archetype) rogue could tie in well. Bard is always a good party boos but we have no dedicated caster.
I feel confident in saying that as a gm and group of players we can role with whatever she decides SHE WOULD HAVE THE MOST FUN PLAYING.

Lady Ladile |

You rang? :D
Hi everyone! Thanks for being willing to let me join in on your game; from what I've read so far it looks like everyone has been having a blast. I know DAA (Kallik) already linked to my profile page but I'll also add that I'm a pretty consistent poster (try to be, anyway) and can generally do at least 1/day. That being said, my work schedule is a bit...erratic in that I typically work day shifts and night shifts in the same week so you're likely to see posts from me at all hours, depending on what I'm up to. (In fact, I'm staying up late tonight in preparation for working tomorrow/Friday night.) I'm also on GMT -6 (US Central time).
Regarding what sort of character to bring, hmmmm....I'll admit that I was already leaning towards an Undine or Ifrit anyway since I've not tried either race before. I try to be fairly flexible when it comes to filling party gaps and it definitely looks like you guys are a little light on skills, ranged, and magic (though I know Inam and Kallik will get some magic stuff on down the road). Like High Servant suggested, an inquisitor could help with all three categories and a bard or alchemist wouldn't be a bad call either or perhaps even a range-focused hunter with a more scouty-type AC?
Just some thoughts :)

Kallik Sisa |

Alchemists are a freaking blast to play. It was only that I had never played or seen a bloodrager in play that kept me from going that way. In my heart I love bards. They are the jack of all trades but the master of none plus they sing. And I love musicals. And I have not been disappointed with how you play an inquisitor so honestly all three could be good. I know very little about the hunter, though more than the inquisitor. Aren't I so much help ;)
I still have not looked into the Inquisitor so I am no help there. The hunter is one of those classes with an animal companion so you could get a bird critter for scouting or a more hearty creature for extra damage. Alternative you could get a fox because they are adorable and I like cute things :) From what little I know about the hunter they are awesome scouts, very focused on their animal companion, and combine the ranger and druid spells so that is awesome. Not sure why that was not done more. So you have a really nice spell list to pick from.
Mechanically with an Alchemist you will get to do some crazy damage and like the bard there are some really good buffs on both spell lists. The bard is really flexible and can fit just about any role you want them to which is nice. Both are not the best in up front melee without some work but we have a fairly descent front line when we can manage to hit the baddies.
Honestly any of them could be a really solid choice. Mostly go with what seems the most fun. Unfortunately everything seems fun to me so I am not being very helpful I think.

Lady Ladile |

No worries Kal, they all seem fun to me too so that makes it harder to decide! The only reason I might have to think a little harder on playing an inquisitor is because I actually already have two others; one sword-and-board and the other ranged (which is the sylph that Kal mentioned). The alchemist and bard would be fun because I don't have much play experience with either and they'd offer some good party support. The hunter would be fun also, though I'm trying to keep the world lore in mind and I'm aware that you would probably be more likely to see an oread hunter than an undine or ifrit hunter :)
I also know that most of you and the GM expressed that having someone connected to the church would make for an interesting setup. Obviously the inquisitor works best for that though I think there are some divine-flavored archetypes for the bard and the hunter too.

High Servant of Volcano |

Lady Ladile,
I don't want you to feel like you have to have a connection to the church. Here are some ideas I had for how we can get you into the story organically:
--Right now, the party is headed into the catacombs beneath a huge temple, intent on vanquishing some corrupt beasts that have infested the place. I think it would work well for them to meet your PC during this. Some options:
--They know there is a 'guard' of some kind that is trapped down there. Guard does not necessarily equal fighter, so you have a lot of leeway there (hunter for example)
--You could be an inquisitor or other official of the church that was down there on other business
--As Inam knows, the first few levels of the catacombs are where prisoners of the Temple are held (heretics, traitors, etc). So, you could be a minor prisoner of the church. This could work well with an alchemist or bard who perhaps spoke too boldly against the gods (priests of volcano can be touchy regarding public 'blasphemy')

High Servant of Volcano |

In case you are looking for it, the character creation guide for the campaign is in the initial post here. Only change is: make you character second level so you're in line with the rest of the party.
I know that between that initial post and the gobs of information on the "Campaign Info" tab there is a lot to take in, so please let me know if you have any questions.

Lady Ladile |

So I've been trying to think of why an undine would basically turn their back on River and their fellows (as far as other undine would see it) to follow Volcano and a basic and somewhat idealistic reason would be the belief that the undine people can't afford to keep isolated in River - even if they are holding the southern front against the Dark. Would something like that be in line with what you mentioned earlier about an undine inquisitor that's still young enough to have an open mind about things?
Also in such cases would an undine's devotion to Volcano have to be absolute or could they still pay basic respects to River and Forest even while believing them to be 'lesser' gods?
I was thinking perhaps a rather idealistic young undine who follows Volcano (inquisitor) but also believes that the other gods and races have their place in the fight against Dark and hopes to maybe help bridge that gap with her own people someday? The archetype I had in mind was Sacred Huntsmaster and her animal companion a constrictor snake - an animal which thrives on heat and the warmth that Volcano brings, but also has roots in Forest (they can operate on land) and River (they can also swim and operate in water). Any thoughts? Too far-fetched?

High Servant of Volcano |

That's a perfectly valid reason to start following Volcano, and certainly more noble than other motivations (trying to attain personal power through the temple, or falling for the propaganda that Volcano and ifrits are superior). It's also true that no race can do it completely alone - ifrits have the numbers, the land/resources, and the technology to keep the war going that other races, for various reasons, do not.
Devotion would be fine either way - most members of the temple range from "Volcano is the only god I follow" to outright fanatics, but you certainly have the occasional member who tries to venerate all the gods. Depending on how open such a person is about their beliefs, it might cost them status within the temple.
I love the basic concept - I don't see any issues with it at all. Being upfront though, such an idealist would be looked down upon by the more fanatic members of the temple (like Inquisitor So Khong, the party's current contact within the temple)

Kallik Sisa |

I would like to interrupt this attempt at productivity to point out that Geisha because it could be fun and you would be so pretty. Alertativly there is the flame dancer And yes that should do that with an undine. It would be so steamy ;)
Sorry I have impulse control :D Are you ok with playing another inquisitor?
I also support you joining in on the bickering with So Khong. It is fun.

Inam Smithrock |

Current windchill here -4.8 degrees! So glad wife made me buy a new sleeping bag. Lol
Currently camped on a snow covered glacier at 11000 ft about sea level. Tomorrow we hit 14000 feet.
See you all Monday.

Lady Ladile |

I think <Yet To Be Named> would be different enough from Aleris and Elidal in personality and somewhat in mechanics that a third inquisitor wouldn't be a big deal! Alternatively if the High Servant thinks it might be a little easier she could be a hunter with the same AC and personal philosophy that wanted to be an inquisitor but was laughed off at best and assigned grunt work (the trapped guard) or jailed at worst (one of the temple prisoners) for her heretical beliefs.
Also I'll keep the Flame Dancer in mind as a potential backup character, oh Whisperer of Ideas ;)
Also wow @ Inam! :O

Lady Ladile |

Alrighty then! Sadly I'm at work and don't have access to HeroLab at the moment but I should be able to get her and her slithery friend built tomorrow (but I can brainstorm on her personality and such at least). Regarding her background do I need to worry about making any ties to the other PCs right now?
Oh and what amount of coinage should I use for equipment since she'll be starting at 2nd?

High Servant of Volcano |

Use the starting gold for a 1st level character (looks like 140 gp average for an inquisitor). I've given the others an enchanted weapon through plot, and I'm thinking your character will be getting one soon as well.
Don't worry about ties to the others - they are all in Hearth for the first time, and it's highly unlikely you met before that.
